reporter: president donald trump was visiting on wednesday. >> in the depths of horror we will always find hope with the men and women that help.>> reporter: this hours after stephen paddock would commit mass murder.>> we know he is a man who spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and leading a secret life.>> reporter: he reportedly requested an upper floor hotel suite with a view of the concert. he injured a hotel security guard as well. the sheriff said his vehicle had 50 pounds of an explosive and 1600 rounds of ammunition

inside. before the shooting he was seen gambling. and one week earlier he rented another hotel room overlooking another music venue. he had stocks of ammunition and explosive at his two homes. and in the last year he purchased 33 firearms, mostly rifles.>> it's hard to determine anything that would determine his trigger point. we don't understand it yet.>> reporter: marilou danley was interviewed by the fbi. >> i knew stephen paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man.>>

reporter: she told fbi that he found the ticket to send her to the philippines to see her family. she said she thought he was breaking up.>> it never occurred to me that he was planning violence against anyone was part of the statement released with her attorney. meanwhile, investigators are searching the concert venue for clues. there are purses, wallets, and backpacks that were left behind. concert workers cannot get many of the things they need now. >> all of their belongings, ids and credit cards are at the venue. our work licenses are required to do our jobs and we can't get to those items.

we have a lot of people unable to work as a result.>> many of the workers say their cars are also in the area blocked off by crime tape. police are helping those who know where their cars are and helping those first. san francisco police are stepping up their security for the events this weekend. >> we have no known threats to our city. but we want people to feel safe.>> last night the police chief confirmed that there are increased police patrols for this weekend when more than one people are coming in this weekend for fleet week. many are here to see the blue angels. and there is a blue glass -- bluegrass festival as well.

died. three women from the bay area died in the shooting. at least 25 who died were from southern california. the tragic events in las vegas are hard to talk about, especially for children. teachers and children are having class discussions about the tragedy. the students are aware about what happened and many have opinions. one child said his parents were there sunday night.>> i felt helpless. it could happen anywhere.

welcome back to mornings on 2. . the senate intelligence committee investigating potential russian interference in the 2016 election is expanding that investigation. committee members say so far their findings back up the assessment that russia carried out a campaign to influence american voters. the senate has expanded the

investigation into new areas including russia using facebook twitter and other social media. and they say this interference has not stopped. >> we have more work to do. but we are developing a clear picture of what happened. i will confirm that the russian intelligence services determined, clever, and i recommend that every campaign and election official take this seriously as we head into the elections in november as we prepare for the 2018 elections as well. >> this is a separate investigation from the one ordered by robert mueller.>> one hour ago president donald trump tweeted "why isn't the senate intel committee looking into the fake news network in

budget officials say the debt in puerto rico is tied up in a bankruptcy process and tied up in bonds. president donald trump said that the debt from the island would need to be wiped out to help it recover. but the budget director says although the government will help puerto rico rebuild, puerto rico needs to figure out on its own how to rebuild its finances. let's look at the commute with sal.>> a closure of 101 southbound if you are driving down the peninsula. it is relatively early for this commute. avoid highway 101 and used to 80. there were -- 280. there was an accident on 101

attend for-profit schools tend to default on their loans compared to those who attend a public four-year university. the la county coroner is investigating the death of tom petty. an autopsy was conducted but they need further examination to know exactly how he died. toxicology results may take weeks. tom petty died on monday after suffering from cardiac arrest at his home. he was 66 years old. coming up, a beach at the bay area that is been at the center of controversy is now open to the public.

traffic approaching the 880 interchange. westbound 24 traffic is looking good. 680 is doing better today. we have the metering lights on at the bay bridge. it is 5:32.>> police in danville want your help to try to track down this armed robbery suspect. this is from september 20 and a man walks into a walgreens, pulls out a gun and demanded a prescription medication. the clerk gave him the drugs. the suspect took off.

take a look at and if you have any information call danville police. police say the shootings on tuesday are in fact connected. a 27-year-old man was found shot in bentley. investigators' say he was involved in a gun battle with another man minutes earlier. both men are expected to survive. in a separate case police say a 61-year-old man was shot and killed in a dispute regarding another man's wife.>> one of the suspects was trying to pimp the other man's wife. so he caught up with the other guy and killed him. >> police have obtained surveillance video and they say they have strong leads and expect to make an arrest soon.

and a student carrying a nerf gun caused a lockdown yesterday. campus police say someone had what looked like a gun. police detained the person and it was a nerf gun being used as a prop for an event unrelated to the school. the leader of a church has been arrested, along with 17 members of the sugar leaf church on charges of conspiracy and drug charges. they seized 1500 marijuana plants, $2100 in cash and eight guns. this after reports of an armed

man on the grounds of the church. when deputies arrived, there was a shootout. the man was killed and two deputies were injured. ricardo perez is ordered to stand trial for charges of having sex with a coworker when she was 17. a motion by the defense was granted to throw out the case because of insufficient evidence. and police are looking for young candidates.>> after school i would come to this boys and girls club. this is where i grew up.

the beach. the new big sur brie -- bridge will be reopening on friday, october 13. this is a $24 million renovation. san francisco will give free vaccines to the homeless. the homeless are most at risk for infection which spreads by poor hygiene. a free vaccination clinic is set for next wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.. street parking in san francisco could be getting more expensive. more on that coming up after the break.

today they will be practicing. they will be performing tomorrow, saturday, and sunday. this is a sneak peek at the real show. they practice the same time as the real show, so expect to see them over the bay around 3:00 this afternoon. the show this year also includes the canadian snowbirds, the only flying team from canada. and there is a service people are using for their daily commute.>> reporter: this is the smart train and since it began operations on august 26, more than 86,000 riders have used it, justifying an order for more cars. >> i think a lot of people have

west coast. we do still have this fog up and down the coastline, hugging the shoreline down towards the golden gate and monterey as well. fog up towards muir beach as well. these are the current numbers right now. a few cool spots, san jose reporting mostly clear skies and 53 degrees. this is a snapshot of the highs today. a touch warmer than yesterday. this area of low pressure bringing cooler temperatures monday and tuesday. but today we begin to warm up. that warming continues into friday and saturday. saturday will be the warmest day of the weekend.
