you probably hear the fog horns near the coast and san francisco. a dense layer showing up near the golden gate bridge. out by the bay bridge, we are in the clear here. this will be a nice warm day, especially away from the shoreline. what is happening is a layer of warm air up above our heads compressing the marine layer. we have the dense fog showing up towards ocean beach and the headlands. away from the coastline, it will be warmer than yesterday. upper 60s for the coast. around the bay, 70s. out here in the pacific, there's a storm system. but all of the energy remains off shore. at least for now. here is our fog bank we are dealing with up and down the bay area coastline as we come in closer to half moon bay, pacifica, out towards san francisco, ocean beach. there is the current fog pattern out there. current numbers, we're off to a chilly start. we've been dealing with the cooler mornings all week long. temperatures in the 40s and the 50s for the 7:00 hour. here is the deal for today.

the coastal fog this morning. possibly a few patches into the afternoon hours. temperatures most areas away from the coastline. it will be a touch warmer than yesterday. that means lots of 70s and 80s for your thursday afternoon. warmer temperatures in your five-day. we will have more on that in a few minutes. let's check in with sal and get an update on the roadways. good morning, sal. >> good morning, mark. we're already looking at busy commutes. let's talk with the approach to the richmond-san rafael bridge. a little slowing getting up to the bridge. it looks like normal though. in general this commute seems just a touch more normal, if you will, than it has been the last few days when we had really long backups. parts of the bay area commute longer than usual. let's go to the east shore freeway and the approach to the bay bridge. you can see that the traffic here is going to be a little bit slow as it normally is. and the east shore freeway also some slow traffic about 45 minutes to drive from the carquinez bridge to the

macarthur maze. interstate 880 doesn't look too bad as you drive through the area. again, highway 4 is always slow. but this morning, we didn't have any of that late-running paving work that usually is right about here. as a result, it is just a little better and a little more what you would expect on 680, 242 and 24. 7:03. back to the desk. >> investigators at the scene of the las vegas shooting says there was a lot of planning that went into the shooting rampage. >> stephen paddock must have had help at some point to carry out his plan. authorities believe that paddock expected to survive the attack and had an escape plan. but they won't say why they believe that. they also say that paddock late last month rented an apartment in a highrise building that overlooked an alternative music festival. his brother says a gunman was a private guy. and investigators say that makes it harder to find a motive for the shooting. paddock's girlfriend has talked with the fbi and is

promising complete cooperation with the investigation. she was surprised when she was sent to the philippines last month and more surprised when he wired money to buy a house for the family. at first she was pleased but then thought he was breaking up with her. she had no idea what he was planning in las vegas. two sonoma county couples that went to the concert in las vegas and were not physically hurt say their lives were changed forever. now that they're back home, they're haunted by seeing people near them get shot. >> i remember just waiting to die. like i -- there was no question for me that it was going to happen because the shots were still going. >> i keep saying we should be dead. we should be dead. how are we alive? >> kim schubert says the worst moment was when she was hiding under the bleachers and could hear bullets around her. that's when she called her young daughter in petaluma. >> i don't know that i'm going

to make it. i want to tell you that i love you. and she was like mommy, mommy, no. >> you need to tell jt i love him. i'm going to die. i don't think i'm coming home. >> jennifer mcgraph says the most difficult moments are now. she and her husband saw a woman who were wounded and could not get out. they stayed with her until the woman stopped breathing completely. now she says she just wishes she could remember what that woman looked like so she could tell her family that the woman did not die alone. the clarke county coroner says 58 victims died in the shooting, along with the gunman. many were acting heroically, trying to shield relatives, friends, even complete strangers from the gunfire. three bay area women died. at least 25 of those who were killed are from southern california. the victims include several teachers, a police officer, a chef, a nurse, and a fisherman.

they all went to that concert just to enjoy a night of country music. the las vegas shooting has restarted the debate over gun control on capitol hill. democrats say it shows the need for gun control but most republicans continue to resist. the latest in washington. >> reporter: president trump nearly scolded the press yesterday during his visit to las vegas saying he wasn't going to get into the politics of gun control. instead, embracing his role as comforter in chief. with the heroes who ran straight into the gunfire, the president provided praise. >> we're defined by our love, our caring and our courage. >> reporter: with those wounded at the local hospital, he offered a warm smile and thanks to the doctors who saved them. >> we met quite a few people. and believe me, they are very lucky to be here. >> reporter: while the

president spent hours in vegas, even driving past the crime scene, he didn't want to talk about what investigators are finding there. an arsenal of weapons, many modified legally to replicate the killing capacity of a machine gun. >> gun violence problem? >> we're not going to talk about that today. >> reporter: democrats couldn't wait to talk about the weapons modification called bump stocks. >> why can't we keep a weapon from becoming a military battlefield weapon. >> reporter: and while some republicans seem willing to talk about banning bump stocks, house whip steve scalise himself gravely wounded by a would-be mass murder says new restrictions on guns are not the answer. >> if you look at what happened in my case, you had people with guns on-site to take him down. >> reporter: in the wake of sandy hook and the orlando

see levied stadium. the lights are still on. sunrise. there are probably cleaning cruise cleaning up after the concert last night. coldplay didn't take the stage until 9:00. they didn't wrap up the act until about 11:00. that is an hour after the week night curfew for concerts. santa clara council woman who lives a mile and a half away from the stadium said she was fielding text messages and complaints from neighbors about the noise late into the night. she could hear the concert on her front lawn at 10:30 last night. that 10:00 curfew rule has been in place since 2010, before the stadium was built and tens of thousands who live nearby are impacted when musical acts go late into the night. >> we're not being good leaders if we just allow our city to be taken over for a concert. i mean, this -- these people were here a long time. a lot of people we're here about the stadium was. we have to respect that. >> reporter: now, in response

to the concert last night, san francisco 49ers president made this statement. public safety officials have been clear that it could be a public safety concern. we are concerned that concerts may not come to levi's stadium again unless the ban is resolved in a way that works for everyone. we have already lost one event and may lose more. now, that one event that they already lost that he references there is in reference to the ed sheeran concert that was supposed to happen up until recently when the 49ers say it was canceled because of the 10:00 curfew. the 49ers have been asking the santa clara council to extend the curfew to 11:00 at least four times a year. city leaders have rejected that idea. now they're planning to get feedback from the community. they plan on sending out

>> new video to share this morning. fire crews were battling a house fire in walnut creek. it started on warren road just after 5:00 this morning. there was work being done to the home and crews think the fire started in dirty construction rags in the back. the fire spread to the attic. you can see flames pouring from the roof. it then spread to the attic. fortunately no one was home at the time of the fire. the time is 7:14. sal is busy in his office. everybody behaving on the roads for you, sal? >> so far, dave and pam -- not dave and pam. dave and gasia. we have traffic more sticking to the plan unlike the last few days when we had slow commutes. this is a live look at san

rafael in the terra linda area. the traffic is moving as it normally does. people are hoping that the smart train takes cars off of the road. it could. my feeling is once the link is completed to the terminal, then you will see a lot more people who will get on the train right to the ferry. this is a look at the golden gate bridge and southbound 101 traffic looks good. you can see the fog underneath the bridge. not presenting a problem for visibility. which is a change from a few hours ago when it was pretty foggy here. it is either going away. we will ask mark about that in a moment. this is a look at the bay bridge. traffic is backed up for about a 20-minute delay at the toll plaza. getting there on the east shore freeway is crowded from pinole down to berkeley and oakland. 880 slows right avenue 238 towards union city. i will mention this, if you're driving on 580, let's say through castro valley, it is not too bad getting on to 238.

now at 7:15, let's bring in mark tamayo with today's weather. >> hi, sal. we have been watching the fog kind of dance around the bay and portions of the coast as well. it is kind of being squashed. as a result near the coast, dense fog there. out towards the oakland estuary, a beautiful start to this thursday morning for you. updates and developments here out in the tropics. we have a new tropical storm to talk about. this is tropical storm nate that just formed in the past hour or so. winds should be around 40 miles per hour tomorrow. and then moving along the path as well could become a hurricane by sunday, approaching the south. maybe approaches portions of louisiana. we will be watching out for what is now tropical storm nate, possibly a category 1 hurricane with winds of 75 miles per hour heading towards the weekend. let's talk about the west coast here. showing you a system out in the pacific. with all of the energy not really impacting the bay area yet. you can see the fog up and down

the coastline. as i mentioned it is a shallow marine layer. it actually clears out a bit but overcast near portions of the coastline from half moon bay and towards pacifica and san francisco. let's check the current numbers. 51 in san jose. one spot in san francisco at 49. santa rosa at 40 degrees. cool start for yours thursday morning. the area of low pressure has been a slow mover all week long. today, more sunshine away from the coastline. and then into friday and saturday, we will have more sun and temperatures warming back up. saturday will be the warmest day of the week. friday is pretty warm as well. they're almost equal, friday and saturday. you get the idea of more sunshine. as the system moves overhead around this ridge on sunday, that will cool us off a little bit. and also bump up the wind speeds as well. winds will be strong.

>> the senate intelligence committee investigating russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is expanding its investigation. committee members say so far their findings back up the assessment from the u.s.

intelligence community that russia carried out a campaign to influence american voters. the senators expanded the investigation into new areas, including russia's use of facebook, twitter and other social media sites. the committee warns that russia attempts to interfere in u.s. elections and that those attempts have not stopped. >> we have more work to do as it relates to collusion but we're developing a clear picture of what happened. what i will confirm is that the russian intelligence service is determined, clever, and i recommend that every campaign and every election official take this very seriously as we move into this november's election and as we move into preparation for the 2018 election. election. >> the senate investigation is separate from the one headed by special counsel robert mueller. they may not cover the same ground. earlier this morning the president tweeted about the investigation saying, quote,

why isn't the senate intel committee looking into the fake news networks in our country to see why so much of the news is just made up, fake. the white house says despite what president trump said, the u.s. does not have the authority to reduce puerto rico's $74 billion debt as part of hurricane relief. treasury and budge oat officials say it is tied up in a bankruptcy process and most in the form of bonds that are owned by investors. while he was visiting puerto rico, president trump said during an interview the island's debt would need to be wiped to help it recover. mull vain esays although the government will help puerto rico rebuild, it needs to fix its finances on its own. all five living former presidents are teaming up for hurricane victims.

they will host a concert at texas a&m university october 21st. it will benefit hurricane relief efforts in texas, florida, puerto rico, and the u.s. virgin islands. the deep from the heart concert will feature musical guests alabama, lyle lovett and others. all five presidents came together last month and did this video that you're looking at, urging people to help out after hurricane harvey in texas. trade unions have agreed to work with the city on modular housing for the homeless. it will be at 7th and mission streets. they will be constructed off site rather than by city workers. the deal will speed up the process and help get people off the streets. >> we need faster and less expensive housing, particularly when we are trying to how's our home -- house our homeless.

>> modular will not become the standard for homeless but the union has agreed to provide homes for the lowest income people in need. free hepatitis vaccines will be given to homeless in hopes to prevent an outbreak. they have seen few cases in san francisco compared to hundreds in san diego. homeless are most at risk of the virus due to poor hygiene. it will be at the bill graham auditorium in san francisco. the time is 7:25. santa clara county opened a sobering center. that's where sheriff's deputies can take people who drank too much or have abused drugs. the center offers an alternative to going to jail for people to recover. it will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. when it is full, people will have to be moved to the county jail. santa clara county had operated a similar center but it was closed in 2003 because of

budget cuts. all law enforcement agencies in santa clara county will be allowed to bring people here to the sobering center after the first of the year. new questions today on the investigation in las vegas. coming up in the next half hour, we will go back live to las vegas to bring you the latest on the gunman and the questions for his girlfriend. plus today is a key deadline for dreamers. we will tell you about the accident that daca recipients need to take today or lose -- or risk losing their legal status.

>> it is 7:29 now this thursday morning, october 5th. i'm gasia mikaelian. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. >> let's go back to las vegas. still no known motive for the massacre that happened sunday night. investigators though are learning more about the gunman. >> our reporter lauren blanchard is in las vegas with the latest developments. good morning, lauren. >> reporter: yeah. good morning, gasia and dave. we are learning a little bit more about stephen paddock. and unfortunately it's -- that's what investigators are saying is giving them so much problem. we are learning that the guy had a very, very private life. really no social media presence, no close friends. rarely talked to his neighbors. we know paddock, this is interesting, according to officials, we know that he tried -- or did rent a condominium overlooking another music festival about two weeks ago. obviously nothing happened at that one. but police are saying it was --

it is unusual that he also overlooked another music festival. of course before carrying out sunday night's attack. we're getting a little bit more information about this guy in that police are saying that they find it highly unlikely or they say it is probable that there could have been some help for him, at least somewhere along this way because of the number of weapons that he had and the amount of ammunition. and gasia and dave, the other thing they're saying is likely stephen paddock was planning to escape after his shooting spree. they found a note. they're not telling us what is on the note. they say it wasn't a suicide note. >> lauren, what are you hearing about what the authorities are learning from his girlfriend? >> reporter: yeah. well, we haven't seen or heard from the girlfriend directly since she went through the fbi interview. we are told that lasted a number of hours. we heard from her attorney. this is marley lieu danley's attorney. he came out and read a

statement from her. basically saying she had no idea this was happening. she was in no way connected to the massacre. she thought this guy was a very loving, a very quiet man. she expected them to have a quiet future together. she says she is very much in shock and says all of their thoughts and prayers to all of those injured or killed. and then asks for everyone to respect her privacy as well as her family's privacy. >> at this point, authorities are focusing on paddock as the lone gunman. bring us what you know. >> reporter: well, at this point they're saying he was the only shooter that night. but they are saying it is highly unusual that he had amassed this much weaponry. there were 23 weapons in the hotel room alone. another dozen or more in homes and thousands of rounds of ammunitions. he had explosive materials. they are saying it is highly

unlikely that he was able to bring that and amass all of those weapons by himself. so they are looking to see if there were any other connections, if anyone else knew about this, if anyone else knew this guy. the thing is they have been looking at all of his electronic devices. at this point, there are no terrorism connections and no obvious signs of mental illness. >> i know you have to go but i want to ask quickly, how is las vegas recovering this morning? what is it like out there this morning? >> reporter: yeah. now just a few days later, things are starting to get back to normal or as normal as it can be. of course a large area is still shut down to pedestrian traffic. there are vigils everywhere. but the shows are getting back on. these events starting back up. people -- businesses opening back up. a lot of places closed down for days out of respect for the victims. things are getting back and moving. vegas is trying to pick up and

continue on. >> lauren blanchard from las vegas. thank you. what happened in las vegas is difficult for many of us to talk about, help it comes to explaining the tragedy to young children. >> yeah. teachers and students at oakland's claremont middle school are having class discussion below zero what happened in las vegas. the students are not only aware of what happened sunday night, they had opinions about it. many are scared. one student says his parents were actually there in las vegas sunday night. >> i was scared. i stayed up all night calling them. >> i was feeling helpless in a way. but also kind of feeling lucky in a way that like it didn't like -- that i wasn't there in a way that like it could happen anywhere and like, you know, any of us, you know, could have been there. >> really confusing because i can't really -- like understand why they did that. i'm not sure.

>> now, the teacher, laura pollack holds discussions for her class weekly. as part of the discussion yesterday, it revolved around gun rights and gun control. she hopes the students walk away feeling that their opinions matter. last night security was a lot tighter at the coldplay concert at levi's stadium. >> i can say that. but i mean i'm determined you can't live scared. >> about 50,000 fans were there at the concert. now, the police wouldn't say how security was increased. but fans told us that the police were a lot more visible both in and outside of the stadium. the time is 7:34. let's help you get outside. i'm guessing that you're taking a jacket to the office or school this morning. >> and leaving with just a t- shirt on. >> yeah. >> temperatures warping up

nicely after the cool start. i was looking at this camera the last few minutes. beautiful looking towards the golden gate bridge. you can see the glassy conditions on the bay water. there is the marine layer pushing underneath the span itself. it is being squashed. that is a good sign of warming up above. you will notice that especially around the bay and the inland areas. 60s and 70s all the way to the 80s later on today. satellite, we have a weather system out in the pacific. all of the energy heading up to the north. there is the fog bank. kind of breaking up in a few spots here. hugging portions of the coastline. half moon bay, closer to pacifica and closer to ocean beach as well. let's check in on some of the current numbers out there. we have san jose, 51. livermore, 48. berkeley, 50. and santa rosa is still one of the cooler spots at 40 degrees. another live camera looking towards oakland. oakland in the clear today. easily on track to reach the upper 70s. on track to reach the 80s for tomorrow. so here is the deal this

there. slowing here and there between san leandro and downtown. highway 4 is slow as it normal is. today we had a better day at 242 and highway 4 here. and getting down to 680. although it is slow once you get from 680 to 24, you see slow traffic in. south bay, all the freeways are filled up. 85, 101 and even 87 northbound you can see it is slow. and this is becoming the new slow traffic normal through the area. 7:37. back to the desk. >> thank you, sad. today is a key deadline day for some of the young immigrants who were brought to the u.s. illegally as children. >> it is their last day to apply for an extension of daca. ktvu's alex savidge is here now to bring us more on what daca recipients are being urged to do today, alex. >> reporter: good morning to you. many of the 800,000 dreamers in this country must reapply for the daca program by today or they could lose their legal status. and with this deadline looming later this morning, in fact in

a couple of hours, lawmakers will be holding a news conference here alongside activists on the san jose state university campus and they will be calling on jerry brown to sign a bill that would protect undocumented college students here in our state. assembly bill 21 would ensure that students with daca status have access to financial aid and legal representation. last month the trump administration announced it would be ending the daca program. that is deferred action for childhood arrivals. it is set to phase out this march. but about 150,000 daca recipients will lose their status before that time if they don't apply for an extension. that extension would allow dreamers brought to the u.s. illegally as children to avoid deportation for up to two more years. again, that daca news conference happening here on the san jose state university campus at 9:30 this morning. a reminder for daca recipients about the important deadline and, again, lawmakers calling on the governor to sign this

filed against alameda county and tree add family agency after a 3-year-old oakland girl died after swallowing methamphetamine while in a foster home. the lawsuit was filed on behalf of the little girl's 7-year-old brother, jeremiah who now lives in a different foster home. his current foster mother is trying to adopt him. shannon had also fostered him and his younger sister when their biological mother couldn't care for them. when they were returned to their mother, villanueva stayed in touch with the children. that's how she knew that the girl died two years ago while in a stockton foster home. >> the lawsuit is to make sure that it doesn't happen to any other family or foster child. >> the lawsuit says that she died after being hospitalized after she swallowed the drugs and then was returned to that very same foster home. it claims there was not even an

inspection of the home before the girl was returned. we tried to contact alameda county as well as triad family services. it will not comment on pending litigation. we haven't received a statement from triad family services. the maintenance work called campus security 10:45 yesterday morning after seeing someone with what appeared to be a gun. it was determined that he had a nerf gun that he was using as an event unrelate today school. to the south bay now where flooding concerns have led officials to start clearing out heavy vegetation along county water ways. the santa clara valley water district is trying to rid coyote rid of vegetation. they are trying to remove 16

the billionaire landowner who put a gate on his property, his beach front property that blocked martin's beach near half moon bay in an effort to keep out the public, he unlocked that gate yesterday. back in august an appeals court ruled that venture capitalist had no right to block public access to the beach without first getting a per miss. he bought martin's beach and the land that surrounds it back in 2008. for 70 years, the previous owners allowed the public to use their property to go to that beach. well, the long awaited opening of a bridge to big sur will take place next week. caltrans says the pfeiffer canyon bridge on highway 1 will reopen next friday. it links the bay area to popular spots in big sur. the original bridge was shut down earlier this year because of heavy storms and mudslides. the renovations, $24 million. highway 1 is still blocked 30 miles to the south by yet

many dreamers. young undocumented immigrants, to reapply for the daca program or they risk losing their legal status. with this important deadline here later on this morning in about an hour and a half, lawmakers, activists and administrators will gather for a news conference on the san jose state university campus. they are calling on governor brown to sign a bill on his desk that would protect undocumented college students here in our state. that is assembly bill 21 that would ensure students with daca status to have access to financial aid and legal representation. last month the trump administration said it would be ending the daca program. it is set to phase out this coming march. about 150,000 of the 800,000 daca recipients will be losing their status before march if they don't apply for this extension. now, that extension would allow dreamers who were brought here

despite statements by president trump, the u.s. government does not have the authority to reduce puerto rico's $74 billion debt as part of hurricane relief. u.s. treasury and budget officials say the debt is tied up in a bankruptcy process. and most of it is in the form of bonds owned by investors. on his visit to puerto rico on tuesday, president trump said in an interview that the island's debt would need to be wiped out to help it recover. but the budget director says although the government will help puerto rico rebuild, the island needs to fix its finances on its own. all five living presidents are teaming up to help hurricane victims. they will host a concert at texas a&m university on october 21st. benefiting hurricane relief efforts in texas, florida, puerto rico and the u.s. virgin islands. the deep from the heart concert will feature musical guests alabama, lyle lovett and

area. more 70sand 80s heading towards -- especially by friday and into the weekend. today not shaping up to be a bad day as well. the live camera looking towards san francisco with the clear skies here. still patchy fog near portions of the coastline. here is the plan for today. mostly sunny and warmer. the coast in the upper 60s. around the bay, 78 degrees. inland neighborhoods aapproaching the low to mid -- approaching the low to mid-80s. all of the energy for now remains out here in the pacific. still patchy fog. you can see we traced in the northerly winds as well. the winds typically dry things out and mix things out. patchy fog still to contend with. lower visibilities but breaks near the golden gate bridge. let's check in on the current numbers out there. san jose, 54. brentwood, 55 degrees. it is chilly. we want to bundle up in the

short term. san francisco, 53 degrees. this guy was cooling us off earlier in the week monday and tuesday. that is kicking out of town. with that, we will bump up the numbers today and more so friday and saturday. these two days, friday and saturday, the warmest days of the week. that means a lot of 80s out there and a few locations around 90 degrees later on in the week. here is a warning. if you are heading to the coast, we are expecting the waves to pick up into friday and the weekend. we will have nice beach weather. you may be tempted to head out in the water. be extra away that the sneaker waves will be moving in and the rip current activity as well. we will talk more about the forecast highs coming up in a bit. let's check in with sal right now who has an update on the roadways. good morning, to you sal. >> good morning, mark. we do have a look at some of the commute that's are still going very strong here at the latter part of the commute for many. for example, interstate 80 from the el sobrante area to richmond and into berkeley still very slow as you can see from the map. and in eastern contra costa county, 680 is slow are from

242 down into alamo. and highway 4 is slow. however, it's better today. yesterday we had a huge backup from the benecia bridge to the walnut creek interchange. i think today will be much happier comparing the two commutes. you can see a little bit of slowing on highway 24. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have about a 15-minute delay. and we're looking at marin county now. southbound 101 traffic is moderate driving down to central san rafael. all the way to the golden gate bridge, it looks g you notice some of the fog we had earlier has disappeared. 8:31. let's go back to the desk. >> investigators in las vegas say a lot of planning went into stephen paddock's ram package. >> they say he must have had help at some point to carry out his plan. they expect that paddock had expected to survive the attack and had an escape plan but won't say why they are thinking that. he represented an apartment in a highrise building that overlooked another music

music. california senator dianne feinstein has introduced legislative to ban bump stocks. >> why can't we keep a weapon from becoming a military battlefield weapon? >> president trump was in las vegas and said he was not going to get into the politics of gun control. while some republicans seem willing to talk about banning the bump stocks, house whip steve scalise who was seriously injured in a shooting this year says new restrictions on guns are not the answer. >> you know, if you look at what happened in my case, you had people on-site with guns to immediately counter the shooter and take him down. >> some republicans have said they would be willing to support a ban on bump stocks, including senators lindsey graham of south carolina and marco rubio of florida. this goes to our question of the day.

the home and the crew thinks it started in dirty construction rags in the back. it quickly spread to the attic. fortunately no one was home at the time of the fire. concerts that play past 10:00 at night in santa clara at the stadium during the week could face a $750 fine from the city. the coldplay concert last night wrapped up around 11:00 p.m. allie rasmus is live with more on the debate of how long the week night concerts should go. >> reporter: yeah. those who live around here and don't like the noisy crowds say the $750 fine is a for the big musical acts. if you want to defer going past the curfew, if you want to stop that, you have to make the fine more significant. last night's coldplay concert, add them to the list of acts that went past the curfew. they didn't take the stage

until after 9:00. the music didn't stop until after 11:00. so an hour past the curfew for week nights. the 10:00 curfew rule has been in place since 2010, before the stadium was even built and tens of thousands who live nearby are impacted when the events go late into the night. it started to intensify about a year ago after beyonce performed at levi's and it lasted two hours past the curfew. >> it went on into the early hours, causing a lot of problems. and then -- so that really was the problem. you know, people saw the impact on their neighborhoods. and this is not what we bought into. this is not what we were promised. >> reporter: now, the 49ers which manage the stadium have been asking the santa clara city council to extend to 11:00 at least four times a year. city leaders have rejected that

so far. in response to the concert last night, the president made the statement, quote, public safety officials have been clear that abruptly ending a concert could create a public safety emergency. we followed the direction related to the event. we are concerned that concerts may not come to levi's stadium again unless the music ban is resolved in a way that works for everyone. now city leaders say the next step is over the next three to six months, they will be doing surveys, getting input from residents and feedback, doing focus groups for those within a mile radius of the stadium. the city leaders want more feedback from residents about the idea before they come up with any solution on extending that curfew. back to you guys. >> allie, that $750 fine is essentially a joke in many people's eyes. but the city can't ashtrayly raise it, can they. >> reporter: right. when we spoke with the city council woman this morning, she said looking into raising that is all part of the overall

news. the opening of a bridge to big sur is taking place next week. it will open on friday, october 13th. it links the bay area to popular destinations in big sur. the original bridge was shut down earlier this year because of storms and mudslides. renovations totaled more than $24 million. highway 1 remains blocked 30 miles to the south by another slide about a quarter mile long. let's look how we are looking out there on the bay area roads with sal. hey, sal. >> mike and gasia, generally the commute has been better. we didn't have those huge backups in contra costa county or really in the south bay. we did have backups there. i don't want to mislead you. it will be slow on some of the commutes like 280. on the left, that is 280 southbound approaching the san jose state exit. you can see that traffic will be busy. also looking at the commute, if we take a look at the map, you still see a lot of red on 85, up to the west valley. 280 after the downtown area,
