commute. it's pretty good. i would say there's a little bit of slowing in the altamont pass zone. right before the altamonte and 205. definitely right now it's manageable as you drive towards livermore and toward pleasanton and dublin. there have been no major issues on interstate 80 north and southbound as you pass coliseum and get up to downtown oakland. also, this commute is looking good on westbound a bridge approach. nice and light heading out toward the macarthur maze. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you. early this morning, president donald trump personally welcomed three formally detained americans just freed by north korea. >> it's being called a major diplomatic achievement leading up to president donald trump's summit meeting with north korean leader kim jong-un. as doug will start with a reports, both countries have a tough road ahead. >> reporter: good morning. powerful images that the president no doubt wanted the

world to see as he greeted these three. former detainees. arriving from the north korea. at the same time, this is one step in a larger process. it was a made-for-tv moment. president donald trump and the first lady emerging from the plane that carried three u.s. citizens to freedom. the three men appeared to be in good health and the president was plainly thrilled. >> great people. they did so lot. it's a great honor. >> reporter: it was another burst of diplomacy with north korea that made it happen. the regime of leaders kim jong- un released these images of a meeting between kim and mike pompeo that led to the deal. >> i really think he wants to do something and bring the country into the real world. i really believe that, john. and i think that we're going to have a success. i think it will be a very big success. >> the possible trump-kim

summit is the next step. there is speculation it may take place in singapore next month. while the release of these men is a positive sign, the more difficult work is still ahead. >> the confidence building measure. it shows that they are trying to establish trust and make some good gestures in the lead up. but it also can me that they expect something in return, something we may or may not be willing to give. >> reporter: which invites the question, what does kim jong-un want to get out of the summit? is he willing to put his nuclear ambitions on the table? >> thank you, doug. we will continue to check in with you throughout the morning. 4:04. seneca, there are calls to a city councilman to resign because he is accused of sexual harassment. his name is concerta. he's accused of inappropriate behavior with students while teaching civics at santa clara high school dating back to 2002. the city of santa clara says possible victims should come

forward and speak out. the next tuesday, the city council will debate the allegations. dominic asserted said he will not resign and that the allegations are false. lawsuit has been filed -- filed against a lactose napa valley restaurant by eight -- a kitchen worker. she says harassment went on for eight months before the offender was fired. now, i have to warn you, the allegations made a venue. debora villalon tells us about the lawsuit against bistro don giovanni. >> translator: very humiliating because he was doing all this in front of other people. >> reporter: her roommate translating. how she would flee to the bathroom and cry because of a fellow worker. >> translator: going home, dealing with that very hard going to work emotionally. >> reporter: incidents alleged at the bistro.

on highway 29. a line cook who was sometimes drunk on the job consistently targeted her for being gay with verbal and physical abuse. her lawsuit alleges she told managers repeatedly that nothing happened even though he threatened to kill her head rammed cooking tongs in her buttocks and groped her on more than one occasion in front of other people. >> there are millions out there unfortunately, the restaurant business is particularly rampant with this kind of behavior. >> reporter: the attorney says restaurants may expect a certain time -- conduct. but the back of the house is an easier place to target women. >> your intolerance doesn't mean eventually we will fire some one after multiple complaints. >> they just let them get away with every thing. >> reporter: hours were cut.

villalon, ktvu fox 2 news. highway patrol is investigating the death of a woman after two car crashes in the macarthur maze at about the same time last night. now, both accident happened near where interstate 80 splits to southbound 880 and eastbound 580. investigators say there was a two-car crash there. and a solo car crash. they believe the woman either fell out of or was ejected from the solo car crash. the transition ramp was closed before 9:00 last night while officers look for evidence. it was reopened about two hours later. police have not released any other information about the woman. students say it was likely a prank involving pepper spray that made people sick. hazardous material team was called to oak grove high in south san jose afternoon -- afternoon. first responders received a report of a foreign smell in a biology class. 10 students and two staff

members complained of breathing troubles and the symptoms included coughing, sneezing, burning eyes, some of them needed to go to the hospital. >> mike it is my life. -- my kid is my life. this is their education. i don't play around when it comes to education. >> the school district issued a statement saying it was not a gas leak but likely pepper spray that set off that incident. you see workers will go back to work today after ending a three-day strike. their union says walkout was aimed at putting the labor dispute in the spotlight and showing how important they are to the uc mac system. employees like nurses also walked picket lines showing support. the workers union wants you see managers to come back to the table and the big issues include salary and healthcare.

early this morning, san francisco firefighters responded to a fire in an apartment building in the upper market area of the city. >> this was reported just after 2:00 this morning at the four- story department building. -- apartment building. fourth floor of that building. one person was treated for smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. 4:10. hundreds of people turned out to remember an east bay teenager found unresponsive. the show of support for students at the school, and the boy's family. ac transit bus driver arrested, charges of bringing a gun to work. we will tell you why he said he did it. good morning. you can see traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. this is san francisco northbound 11. approaching the 80s but.

welcome back to mornings on 2. 4:13. scientists in hawaii worn there soon be a huge explosion from the kilauea volcano on the big island and that boulders wing 10 tons could be sent flying into the air. scientist with the u.s. geological survey say this could happen in the next couple of weeks. now, the volcano has been erupting for a week now.

toxic fumes dating -- are causing smog which is dangerous to breathe. severe breathing problems. as the sulfur dioxide gas keeps filling the air, it's a danger of what's called acid rain. >> like choking on rotten eggs. it makes your eyes water. your throat hurt. everything hurts. your lungs literally take. you got to just run. >> reporter: more than 35 homes have been destroyed by that lava flowing into neighborhoods. more than 2000 people have been ordered to evacuate. federal prosecutors want to shut down clinics in southern california and florida. selling what they say or stem cell treatments to patients. the government says the clinics have sold unapproved and unproven cancer and heart disease treatments to thousands

of patients. the clinics also advertise treatments for a wide variety of conditions including macular degeneration, strokes, and multiple sclerosis. some patients have lost consciousness during procedures. gone blind or developed severe infections after treatment. the clinics are licensed by two doctors who say they will, quote, vigorously defend their practices. marin county has joined a nationwide lawsuit that accuses two disc dozens -- two dozen pharmaceutical companies of failing to do enough to fight the opioid crisis. pharma misled the public about the dangers of opioid addiction while raking in huge profits. johnson & johnson, purdue pharma and san francisco based mckesson are all listed as --. >> there's a public health problem. getting changes in their marketing practices and provide

health benefits. we hope to do the same here. >> the companies have said they have emphasized the importance of using opioid safely -- opioid safely. bringing all 400 cases filed across the country to be heard in ohio in an attempt to settle the case. the process could take six months. our time is now 4:16. an ac transit bus driver is facing charges, accused of hearing a loaded gun on the job. 53-year-old stephen williams emailed his supervisor, saying he planned to bring a gun to work because he worried about his safety. ac transit the notified the sheriff's office. they tracked down williams during a layover at the bay fair bart station in san leandro and they say they found he had a loaded handgun. williams was arrested on misdemeanor charges of carrying a loaded and concealed weapon. we highly discourage

anybody from carrying a weapon onto the bus, especially a bus driver, and taking that they are going to use it when they don't receive the level of training that's required to carry such a weapon. >> mr. williams posted bail. ac transit did not make a comment and we haven't heard back yet from the union that represents bus drivers. all right. right now, it's 4:17. i want to check in with sal for a look at traffic this morning. what's going on early on, sal? >> we don't see a lot. we've had some of these days, pam and dave, where we are right off the bat, we have something going on. today, it seems just a little quieter. let's go to the gilroy commute and start with northbound 101. this area as you drive into gilroy, perhaps you're even coming to gilroy from one of the suburbs of gilroy. you are coming into that area. it looks pretty good. driving up into the silicon valley with no major issues. we are also looking at a live picture of 280 in san jose. just show you that traffic is very light. as you drive to highway 17.

and also, this morning, westbound bay bridge, traffic here looks very good. very little delay at all. and you can see traffic is moving well and i look at the wind here on the flag. one of them is blowing. one of them is not blowing. it doesn't look like it's very windy at all. that a tough call. it is. >> there's a little puff. the wind will up. not so much today. friday giving you a heads up. friday afternoon and evenings a high wind watch has been posted. a watch means we think this will happen. warning means it is happening. so this might be updated, of course, by the national weather service. friday night into saturday morning. northeast they hills santa cruz -- east bay hills. santa cruz mountains. this will be a northerly or northeast areas.

temps will start to warm up a little bit today. santa rosa, 78. 180 today. the city, 62-65. livermore, cool. 72 yesterday. 77 today. is a, 72. 75. so we bottomed out those temps. there's still some low clouds around. but nothing compared to yesterday. although, water temps are still cold. onshore breeze. so for most, i mean, it's not as breezy as thursday. 40s, 50s on the temps. redwood city, sunnyvale, both say 50 degrees. 53 in berkeley. upper 40s for a few low 50s. lafayette is 50 degrees. mid 50s, upper 50s. even at eastern contra costa county and low 50s around el sobrante. yesterday, this was howling up to 31 miles per hour. it's been cut in half. my guess is it will continue to hover there for a while and then decrease. 32 over tricky. 49 ukiah. 54 in sacramento. a few high clouds. cruising on by yesterday. that's because this is an -- system did see a dip.

that's your signature high pressure. here's the key, though. the low is going to go up into the pacific northwest and then dig into nevada as it does, that will give us an increase in the wind and it will be a north, northeast. air temps tomorrow will start to go up. maybe rapidly. morning clouds. but then we will cool it right back down. it's going to be a quick warm- up. today is a slow transition. and then sunny. windy by the evening. upper 80s certainly possible with that north, northeast breeze. and then sunday, a big drop and cooling conditions most of next week. >> wow. rain and -- >> i don't think so. it's certainly possible next thursday. >> okay. >> a week from today. >> thank you, steve. 4:20 is the time. california is one step closer to becoming the first state to require solar panels on new construction. the state energy commission approved new rules yesterday requiring solar panels on all new houses, condos, and low rise apartment buildings. critics say the new role as

welcome back to mornings on 2. the federal government now has a four active investigations involving tesla. the national transportation safety board is now looking into the fiery crash of a model s in florida that happened tuesday night. the ntsb says the car was going very fast when it veered off the road, ran into a concrete wall, and burst into flames. the agency is focusing its attention on the car's lithium- ion battery and says it is not believe it will need to look at the car's autopilot system during the investigation. tesla said that it is working with local authorities and that high-speed collisions often result in fire no matter what kind of, but is involved.

4:20 five. 50,000 las vegas casino workers will vote later this month on whether to go out on strike. the culinary union will vote may 22 at a sports arena near the las vegas strip. that union includes kitchen staff and housekeepers. negotiations for a new contract started in february. the current contract runs out at the end of this month. more than 34 hotels casinos could be affected. las vegas went through a citywide strike in 1984. that one lasted 67 days. the giants will try to avoid a sweep in philip -- philadelphia. you won't find the game on a local television station. >> that's because today's game will only be on facebook. i'm not kidding. major league baseball agreed to to broadcast 25 games on facebook. trying to broaden its audience. the fans don't like the arrangement because they are already paying to watch games through cable companies. today's game start at 10:05 in

the morning. the giants will then go to pittsburgh. they'll play the pirates tomorrow afternoon. the oakland a's are off today. they lost yesterday to the astros. 4-1. the a's had no answer for picture jared. they completed a series sweep. cole allows one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. the a's are going to try to bounce back tomorrow. they'll be playing the yankees in new york. time is 4:26. today is the first day that warriors fans will get a chance to buy tickets to the western conference finals against the houston rockets. the first presales start at 10:00 this morning. that is for season ticket holders. members on the season ticket priority waitlist will be next to buy tickets at noon. 2:00 that's when the fans in the warriors insider club can buy. 3:00 is for all warriors insider's.
