we have problems in traffic, what happened? >> bay fair at the station, there was a train on fire. they are having trouble figuring out where the fire started. we still have a look at it from our crew on the scene. this train was affected right there on the track now. a little while ago there was a lot of smoke coming up. firefighters are just making entry on to the train. they just turned off power to the third rail. but what you need to know is bay fair station is closed and anywhere south is not running service right now. so if you want to get on a bart train and let's say head to san francisco, you have to go to a station that's north of bay favor. richmond and concord trains are still going. if you're on the concord line

those trains are moving into san francisco but anything south is closed because of the fire. you see there are a lot of firefighters up there that have called for more resources to get up there. to make entry on to the train. looks like they have. so this is an ongoing situation. we'll let you know more about it as the morning continues. let's go out and take a look at the other things we have here. i want to move on to the bay bridge toll plaza backed up for about a 15-minute delay. traffic is lighter today because a lot of schools are closed because of the poor air quality so we're getting a break that way. you look at the san mateo bridge, looks like it's moving okay into the smoke and the south bay commute is light. 7:01 what about today's weather? >> thank you so much. with that haze out there and the smoke another spare the air day and another advisory for the smoke. actually that advisory going until tuesday at this point. you can see there sfo and the shots that sal was giving us as well, the smoke is widespread

and unhealthy to very unhealthy in some areas. visibility at sfo about a mile and a half. we may experience delays once again. san francisco right now at 48. it's a cold one, santa rosa below freezing at 31. 44 in oakland this morning. san jose at 42. these numbers like yesterday morning at least for most as we get into the afternoon. the temperatures are not changing a whole lot. widespread 60s in the forecast for today. air quality right now unhealthy for everybody and very unhealthy for some. san francisco, sfo one of those areas down along portions of the peninsula stretching towards the north bay, sausalito and san rafael reported in that. areas like martinez, pittsburgh stretching out towards antioch and brentwood. you get into the inner east bay areas like livermore san jose reporting unhealthy. this isn't lukely to change. it will fluctuate at times but

even higher. hundreds are still missing. 220 square miles have burned, almost five times the size of san francisco. the fire is 40% contained and the containment lines are holding. fire crews are still out there looking for hot spots. tkvu alyssa herring ton in paradise right now, tell us about the staggering number of people listed as missing more than 600 people missing unaccounted for. a lot of them elderly or disabled. i'm here along sky way in pearson. you get an idea of how widespread the damage is. this used to be a bookstore connected to a bunch of other businesses along this stretch and they all burned to the ground. in the disstance several homes burned and if we point the camera down the block, you see more and more buildings including this antique shop across the street gutted by the fire. as i mentioned, more than 600 people are unaccounted for.

the fire touched nearly every corner of paradise. authorities announced seven new victims yesterday. 200 burned cars they made a sad discovery when they found a victim inside. the sheriff is remaining optimistic about the number of missing. . >> this is a dynamic list, right. police have been coming by our locations to check on who we are.

opened half an hour ago. we'll take a peek now. you can see shares are rebounding up almost 25% gaining $4 just this morning. the stock price right now stands at about 24 and a half dollars. this is a decent increase from yesterday's close. pg&e has been on a rough ride this week dropping 30%. the california public utilities commission has opened a new investigation into company operations and how they're run. the president tells the wall street journal the review could include whether to break up pg&e into smaller utilities. some fire victims have filed a lawsuit accusing pg&e of starting the camp fire. the utility reports that power went out on a trans mission line just before the fire began. time is 7:08. rosemary told you the air quality is bad around the bay area considered unhealthy because of the smoke from the fire in butte county and a spare the air alert was

combining to prompt school districts across the region to cancel class today. here's a list of the counties that are impacted. all public school districts in alameda county are shut down. all public school districts in contra costa county and san francisco unified school districts, all schools in marin and so lan know and most schools in napa as well. -- -- solano county. that could change as the morning goes on. with preschools and outdoor venues closed, families had to make last minute child care arrangements. we spoke to a whose seven-year old granddaughter is staying with several family members while her parents go to work. >> i understand there's families that don't have access to being helped with the kids so it's stressful for some. luckily we have that assistance

and i hope this situation gets resolved soon. >> we told employees they could bring kids to work if they have to so they didn't have to take days off. >> you just heard the man we interviewed there, he manages a construction company, about 180 people and they're trying to show flexibility to their workers. they told them they could bring their kids with them to work today because of the last minute school closures. other parents say they're actually glad schools are closed because of the unhealthy air, they feel more comfortable with their kids at home with them. and unfortunately though there's no immediate relief in site. the spare the air alerts have been extended through tuesday. it isn't expected to impact schools next week because next week was already the thanksgiving holiday. so most schools already have next week off. a lot of families starting that thanksgiving holiday break a little bit early with the cancellations today. live in walnut creek, allie

new information from hayward about last night ace officer involved shooting. the officer shot and wounded a man believed to be carrying a sharp weapon about 9:00 last night at o'neil avenue off of highway 238 near ward creek. police shot the suspect and he was taken to a hospital for treatment. no officers were hurt. more students in san francisco public schools are graduating from high school. the school district says 85.5% of students graduated last year. 1% increase from the previous school year. graduation rates went up for african american students from 76.8% to 77.1%.

for latino students it went from up 70.3% to 73.8%. graduation rates went up for english learners and for disabled students. a new state auditor says poor management contributed to billions of dollars in cost overreturns and years of delays. the audit criticizes the california high speed rail authority for starting construction before it completed critical steps in the contract process accord to go this audit, that led to numerous contract changes and delays and overruns that caused the project to nearly double the original cost estimate of $40 billion. the new estimate is $77 billion. the plan is to carry people between san francisco and los angeles in under three hours. the project was started under governor swartzenager.

bart right now has no service south of the bay fair station. this is to show you what's going on here. this is the bart map, the bay fair station just before hayward and castro valley here, this station there's no service anywhere south of this. so this area that i'm outlining has no service because of a train at the bay fair station that caught fire. we do have a look at it now for you. there's the train and workers are up on the platform. this station is closed. the fire department is there and they have been hitting the train with water. the power has been taken off the track so this is going to be an ongoing situation. the fire department still handing it and if you want to get to san francisco on bart you have to go north of the bay fair station, still up there

doing work. let's talk about the other commutes in case you're driving to san francisco today, right now it's about a 15-minute delay at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's been lighter than usual. many schools closed because of the poor air quality. right now we have traffic from the san mateo bridge looking good. no major problems in the south bay. this commute a little bit slow on 85 north and that's about it. 7:18 let's bring in rosemary. air quality going to be another tough one today. looking at unhealthy to very unhealthy air around the region this morning. the air quality advisory is expected to last into tuesday. may see slight improvement into the weekend. an on shore breeze will help just a touch. we're not looking at it being strong. definitely not strong enough to knock out the smoke but hopefully a bit of an improvement coming on saturday. for today and repeat of yesterday will be between very unhealthy and unhealthy for

good morning, we just got here on the scene at the bay field bart station. you can look behind me and see the train up there. it's split into. half of it is down there and the other half is there, a number of bart officials are here as well as along with alameda county fire department. here's the issue here at bay fair. smoke was seen coming out from underneath the carriage of the train on that elevated piece of track up there. no word of any injuries or if anyone was on the train at the time. it will take time to find the

source and finally get that train removed from this station so they can accept trains once again. so no trains will be coming in and out of bay fair which means to bypass it you need to take a bus from castro valley and the hayward station which will make for a long commute, likely to add a good half hour on to your commute this morning. buses just left moments ago so they are already working but a mentioned, this will take some time. smoke coming out from underneath the bart train and right now they continue to work on it. bay fair will be closed for quite a while i would imagine as they try to find the source of this fire and if you're commuting coming in from fremont area, coming down from berkley and castro valley, you're going to have to hop on a bus and it will probably add a good half hour on to your commute.

square mile overnight and the camp fire now stands at an area burned 222 square miles. containment went up to 45%. the number of confirmed deaths repains at 63. still 630 people listed as missing. meantime, president trump plans to visit the fire zone tomorrow. final details still being worked out. we know the president will fly into beale air force base near the city of marsville meeting with first responders and people directly impacted by the wildfires. earlier this week president trump approved california's request for a major disaster declaration. that opens the door to federal aid. our time is 7:35 the air quality around the bay area you know it's bad. the worse we have seen since the camp fire started. many complaining about burning eyes and sore throats and people wearing masks is the new normal in the bay area.

0. hundreds of achors of land, the undeveloped land on mission boulevard near cal state east bay. the land was purchased by caltranses in the 1960s to create an expanded 238 freeway. those plans fell through and the city negotiated a deal to buy and develop ten parcels of the property. last night people came together and heard some of the ideas that this community meeting. they include new housing trail extensions and retail and commercial space. some of the people who lived on

spacex will soon launch thousands of internet satellites to bring internet to the entire country. they will replace an old network with a new one that would bring faster speeds. spacex hopes to launch 12,000 satellites to blanket the entire earth with ber net service from space. instagram wants to help you keep track of your screen time. it's rolling out a dash board that lets you set daily time limits for using the app and an option to temporary mute push notifications. this move is in line with the ongoing attempts by instagram's parent company to introduce new futures to help users fight social media addiction. the dash board will be called your time on facebook when you update the app, you'll see that new feature under the your activity menu. so for all of us to maybe deny how much time we spend on our

a look at how parents and employers are handing the last minute closures. with the thanksgiving holiday travel season up and running, the impact it could have. good morning, everyone welcome back to mornings on two, i'm mike mibach. >> we're starting with a story we're covering heavily impacting bart service in the east bay. this after a fire at the station closed completely for about two hours. >> we have live team coverage this morning, sal is there in the traffic center but first out to ktvu frank mallicoat. >> all right, mike and g gasia good morning. quite a mess here at the bay fair bart station but i'm happy to report the tracks are rolling again however, they still got a train they have to

look at. it was shut down over an hour plus this morning because of a train rolling into the station. the smoke coming out from underneath the train. the undercarriage. the train has been removed but earlier it caused quite the scene. alameda fire was on hand, dozens of bart officials taking a look. nobody was injured. they're trying to determine exactly what may have caused the issue. buses were set up between the castro valley, hayward and san leandro stations to bypass. they were for a good hour or so. trains are rolling again. we are told though by bart officials to expect delays even tho the tracks are open and people are here and rolling in on the morning commute. so it might take another half an hour before you get through the station nice and smooth. but it's open as to what caused the smoke and possible fire we don't know just yet they are investigating. but the good news is station is back open.

that's the latest we're here in san leandro. limited service that means only using one track but at least the trains are moving through now. they're going to have a bottleneck there but you can get to any bart station and use the system. let's take a look at the bay bridge. i want to show you the traffic backed up for a bit here improving though. i can see the improvement, a lot of schools closed because of bad air quality and that's taken pressure off the friday commute. some are okay, 880 better than normal. san mateo bridge looks normal heading out. i want to mention eastbound 580 at 164th castro valley. the overturned car looks like the person got out. northbound 80 is slow as you approach 238 and slows for about a mile. 8:02 back to the desk.

the other big story we're following air quality as rosemary has been reporting. the air quality is terrible across much of the bay area. right now it's considered unhealthy because of the smoke from the fire burning. hundreds of bay area schools will be closed today because of the smoky air. these are hard to come by. we checked inpseudothe walgreens and the clerk says they sold out the past couple of days. they are hard to find in kid's sizes so these factors combining to prompt school districts to close schools across the bay area today and that's in effect. let's tack a look at tp list.

the closure applies to all public school districts in contra costa. the san francisco unified school district, all schools in marin and most schools in napa and san mateo. santa clara county schools will be open today and in sonoma each district is deciding whether or not to close. preschools and daycares and outdoor venues closed, many families had to make last minute child care arrangements. . >> i understand there's kids that don't have access to being helped with the kids so it's very stressful for some. . >> luckily we have that assistance and i hope the situation gets resoled soon. >> we told our employees they could bring their kids to work so they didn't have to take off. >> that man manages a construction company with 108 people.

impacted by the wildfires. president trump approved california's request for a pay juror disaster declaration which opens the doors for federal aid. a follow up to story we told you yesterday about tent cities in chico. hundreds of families set up tents in the walmart parking lot. the government wants evacuees to go to emergency shelters. rain will be coming soon causing all sorts of problems. restrooms and supplies will be remoed by sunday and food services will be slowly phased out. also the butte county health department reports ashgs reports a noro virus outbreak. the four affected shelters are the neighborhood in east avenue churches in chico and the butte county fairgrounds in gridly. anyone heading to the airport today should contact their airline ahead of time.

an investigation is underway in the butte county fire zone after a deadly officer involved shooting. the district attorney said a 48- year old wanted parolee shot and killed after he refused commands to show his hands and rushed at deputies. they responded to initial reports of a suspicious man lye living in someone else's car. they realized he was wanted for a 2014 double homicide and chased him towards the oroville area at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. after using a spike street, the suspect confronted the officers and pointed a metallic object at them. >> the officers did a felony stop and were asking for him to get out of the car and show his hands he made the statement "you guys should have left me

the fire that grew more than a square mile overnight. the camp fire has burned nearly 222 square miles. containment went up to 45%. the number of confirmed deaths remains at 63 with 630 people listed as missing. firefighters in southern california are making progress on those two fires burning there. the woolsey fired burned 153 153 square miles and 69% cob tim kained. three people have died in the fire. three firefighters were injured. governor brown and u.s. interior secretary got a firstst firsthand look at the devastation there. the other fire burning in southern california is now officially 100% cob tim kained. that fire burned more than seven square miles no deaths reported. a laif picture of san francisco airport. you can see thick gray haze in the air. this air and the fact its terrible is causing slight delays. the faa says some arriving flights are behind schedule as much as an hour and a half.

>> we are being optimistic on this one. into tomorrow morning notice the winds begin to shuft and we're now on shore. it's a lathe one, 4-5 miles per hour according to readings here and then as we get into the afternoon, it flips around and we are now seeing that northeast wind once again which means we're downwind of the fire. another shift and more of an on shore breeze. now what could also occur is fog starts to develop and if the fog and smoke get together, we know that as smog, another issue we see. the winds flip back around, a northeast one once again. a light on shore breeze over parts of the weekend. hopefully helping us out. no promises. the extended forecast monday, cloud cover there, a wave moving through not bringing us rain. our first opportunity wednesday morning and by this then the on shore breeze will deaf netly be with us to clear out that air.

big fires in the wine country. right now shares of pg&e are up to about $24 a share. but it has lost about half its value since november 8th when the camp fire started. pg&e faces lawsuits and accusations that its equipment may be to blame for the fire. the california public utility commission is ordering a review of the company. so we'll continue to follow that story. the harlem globe trotters brought fun to the opening bell this morning, they did play at madison square gardens next week, i just checked they come to oracle arena in oakland and the sap center in san jose in january. right now checking on the numbers, they were up now they are down. tp live look at the big board there of the dow jones down not a lot but still slightly 19 points to 25,000.
