an elderly woman out walking her dogs killed by a suspected drunk driver.>> she was really a wonderful person. >> friends have identified the victim as carolyn allen. >> authorities say she was crossing the street with two of her dogs when she and one of those dogs were struck and killed. that happened at about 10:00 last night in san anselmo at woodside drive. we have live coverage where police arrested the driver. >> reporter: they have identified the driver as 30- year-olds james boswell, he has been booked on suspicion of

driving under the influence. all-night people have been dropping off lowers where the crash occurred along this busy thoroughfare.>> she is a buddy of ours, her dogs were friends of our dogs, we would meet at the field.>> reporter: those who knew carolyn allen described her as a youthful spirit. she was a wizard of finance, a bookkeeper and accountant. her dogs were her children.>> she was a friend.>> she loved her dogs.>> wonderful neighbors. really the best.>> reporter: allen on eight routine walk with her daughter saturday night was crossing the street right in front of her home. neighbors say she was in the crosswalk when a car heading northbound did not see her or her dog and crashed into them.

police marked the crash, and what you don't see our break marks. her and her dog died at the scene, another dog rushed to the hospital with a broken leg in stable condition. police arrested james boswell also from san anselmo. he had been driving under the influence. neighbors say he tried to hide.>> he was not drunk enough to realize the implication of what he had done and still try to hide in the neighbors yard, he really was reprehensible beyond even being drunk.>> reporter: the posted speed limit 25 miles per hour, yet many drivers go way beyond that. neighbors put up signs alerting drivers to slow down. some would like to see flashing lights or speed bumps.>> people drive way too fast in this neighborhood, this street, we have children that get dropped off at this corner. >> it is too dark. they need to put some lights

and make it safer and people need to slow down.>> reporter: allen lived with her longtime partner, her caretaker. he came outside and saw what happened and collapsed. he was rushed to the hospital. >> he came out and she was already a bit in ill health.>> reporter: james boswell has been booked into jail for felony dui and vehicular manslaughter, his bill is currently set at $500,000. emergency crews recovered the body of a man who was seen floating in the ocean. deputies say they got the call at about 11:20 this morning. the sheriff department says the body was not readily identifiable, they plan to release the man's name after his family has been notified. the body was spotted near the ritz carlton hotel, deputies say a couple people have been

swept out to sea over the past few weeks in that area, a senior at hayward high school ground while the morning as poplar state beach. his body has still not been found. last thursday a car was seen driving off of a cliff along highway one about 11 miles north of the ritz carlton. the driver of that car has not been found either. now to berkeley where a memorial has been set up for one of three people who were killed in three different bay area cities on friday. police say the same man is behind all three homicides.>> stephan jefferson was arrested, we have the latest of what we have learned about one of the victims.>> reporter: one of the victims was known around people's park, which many know as a haven for the homeless. friends tell me he knew his alleged killer fairly well.>> reporter: a rally against the

plan to build dorms was held sunday afternoon.>> it's kind of like a shock. i could not stop shaking. >> reporter: anthony thomas and others gathered nearby to remember a friend killed here friday, police say he was known as stone. >> they shot him. >> reporter: he was born and raised in berkeley, loved his son and often attended his little league games. it was here he engaged in a favorite pastime they say. >> he loved it.>> he was one of my favorite opponents.>> i really liked playing him he really likes playing me.>> reporter: he often played chess

with jefferson, a man described as a regular here often doing good deeds.>> he was one of us. >> reporter: now accused of heinous crimes, police say he killed marcus jackson in oakland on 41st and market street at 10:15 friday morning. then drove to the baby district of san francisco and killed laurent davis at around 1:30. at 2:40 it was when cal was shot and killed as people's park. later jefferson turned up in south lake tahoe where douglas county sheriff deputies exchanged gunfire with him. a sergeant was hit in the head where jefferson finally gave up.>> we shot at us and we shot at him. >> the murders remain a mystery at this point, some as people's park suspect he was on drugs and dealing with mental issues at the time.

the charges carry a sentence with life in prison and no chance for parole or the death penalty. >> how did they find him in nevada? >> they put on all-out search for this vehicle and deputies spotted the vehicle later that night, on friday night is when he engaged in gunfire with him and one of the deputies was shot. they eventually caught him and he gave up. i will never forget yesterday. my missing finger will forever scar me physically but it is going to remind me how vulnerable we are and also how heroic each one of us can be. >> for the first time we are hearing from the rabbi that was shot while delivering a sermon at a synagogue in southern california yesterday. a woman was killed, three others including a child were

injured. what the rabbi says he thought when he saw the man pointing his gun right at him. >> no matter how dark the world is we need to think of light. >> the search for answers continues.>> we do not see a connection to other groups, it was a hate crime no doubt about it that the investigation will continue.>> reporter: police identified the gunman as john ernest, a san diego resident and student at cal state. authorities are looking into whether he is connected to a nearby mosque fire last month which caused damage but no injuries.>> we are working with the police department and the fbi to determine his involvement in the arson about one month ago. >> reporter: on saturday the suspect opened fire at a congregation about 22 miles north of san diego. a 50-year-old woman died trying to shield a rabbi, three others injured including a 34-year-old man who took shrapnel to his

leg trying to protect children.>> here is a young man standing with a rifle, pointing right at me. i looked at him and he had sunglasses on, i could not see his eyes or his soul.>> reporter: yesterday and sunday police deployed to various religious centers to keep them safe.>> the sheriff department is conducting additional patrols at houses of worship throughout san diego county.>> reporter: ernest is facing one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. it's been one week since the easter sunday terrorist bombings in sri lanka, the archbishop held a special service today which was televised for worshipers. local catholics have been told not to participate in religious activities in their churches out of fear of more attacks. the bombings targeted for churches and three hotels killing 250 people including at

one man is that in baltimore, seven others injured after a gunman fired into a crowd during an evening cookout. the police commissioner said a man approached the crowd in the west part of the city at about five clock and began firing. the commissioners of the shooting appeared to be extremely targeted but did not elaborate and he did not discuss a possible motive. the commissioners said that shell casings were found in two

different locations in the area indicating that there may have been a second gunman or someone firing back at the first router. no arrests have been made and the conditions of the victims have not been released. the city of seattle is in shock one day after a crane collapsed onto a busy street, four people were killed and four others injured. a california woman is among the dead. >> reporter: following the collapse of a massive construction crane into a usually bustling streets, some residents say the crane was shaking as strong gusting wind moved across the area. the crane fell from the roof of a building onto several lanes of traffic on saturday crushing at trapping six cars on her knees and killing four people. the seattle fire department says two of the dead were crane operators and the others were in cars smashed by the crane.

for others including a four- month-old were taken to hospitals after sustaining non- life-threatening injuries.>> my heart aches for the families that lost someone today and for the workers that lost fellow workers. >> reporter: firefighters evacuated the inside of the building and the impacted areas. local authorities are working with state officials to determine the cause of the crane collapsed. >> we make sure this will stay locked down for as long as it takes.>> reporter: the governor described the incident as a terrible accident in a twitter post urging people to avoid the site, writing in part police stay at the scene and allow them to do their work. we now know that one of the people killed yesterday was a college student, the names of all victims will be released by the medical examiner's office on monday. two playoff games in one day, both the warriors and the sharks played at home today and we saw plenty of folks at oracle arena wearing

70s or mid-70s, tomorrow about the same not a lot of 80 degree readings, mostly 60s and 70s. that area to the south you can see it's down here that is a low pressure center that's the first mechanism, then there is another low pressure center out here that follows up and comes in after this, that continues the onshore flow. lots of fog and deep marine layers, that's the plan. the wind right now relatively onshore. that will bring the fog and low clouds inside the bay tonight, out along the avenue it has been foggy most of the evening, temperatures right now generally in the low 50s that's where they stay tonight, low 50s and mid-50s and tomorrow morning this marine layer which is deep, a couple thousand feet well over the coastal hills, that will push inland and that means a cool start to the day which means a cool finished

reporter: he has dreams of becoming a professional athlete, several colleges expressed interest in him. his future seemed bright.>> he had a pure joy about him. >> reporter: on november 19, 2016 antwan williams wanted to celebrate, his mother says one of his top choices sent him a letter saying they were interested in him.>> he got a letter from mississippi, he was like mom me and my friends got the same letter for college we want to go celebrate. plus it was a young man's birthday.>> reporter: the party was at the south shore bowling alley in alameda, you can see him walking in.>> just a family entertainment place. just right there by the beach. i had no clue.>> reporter: no clue that 2 feuding groups would also show up that night.>> some group from oakland, some groups from berkeley and we know they did not get along.>> reporter:

tensions were high all night and violence erupted just minutes after surveillance video captured antwan williams leaving the bowling alley. security footage shows him and his friends here in the parking lot behind the bowling alley about 9:00 that night. from the other and someone opened fire. antwan williams was shot in the head. >> reporter: he was taken to highland hospital and died as they moved him to the icu.>> he was a loving gentlemen. he had a bright future ahead of him. he was an outstanding individual, he was loved. she did not deserve this.>> reporter: so the principal was close to him. >> he had this enthusiasm and positivity.>> we know that somebody knows something. >> reporter: police say investigators have interviewed many witnesses but most refused to cooperate.>> there might be a lot of innuendo or

now to the ghost ship trial, testimony is expected to take about three months. the creative director is charged with three counts or three dozen counts of involuntary manslaughter. prosecutors say both men are responsible for the 36 lives lost when the warehouse caught fire in december 2016. defense attorneys argue there are scapegoats taking the fall for the negligence of others such as the buildings owners and we will have in-depth reports involving the fallout following the tragedy. it's all begins this tuesday. lawmakers and people who support gun control came together to discuss gun safety with community members. a couple hundred people gathered at the dominican university this afternoon to

report of a sexual assault this morning at a fraternity house, investigators have not said what fraternity they are looking at, they said the house is located near the intersection of channing way and college avenue, the victim is a uc berkeley student. so far no word on a possible suspect, if you have information you are asked to call berkeley police. a man on probation found an unusual way to try to hide his gun from police. the sheriff department tell us is deputies were helping police with a probation search yesterday when a sheriff deputy opened up a container of protein powder and found a gun inside wrapped in foil. since the man is on probation he's not allowed to own or possess a gun and he was arrested. the gun was confiscated. and legendary musician facing controversy, why some sports teams have now stopped playing a famous rendition of god bless

night, firefighters got the first call at about nine a clock last night of a fire, flames and smoke were coming from the roof of the two-story building, the restaurant is on the bottom floor. there is a residence on the top floor. one firefighter suffered a minor injury, all customers and staff evacuated the building safely and firefighters were able to rescue a trapped dog. investigators think the flames started in the kitchen area and are likely the result of a grease fire. there's more fallout from the release of the mueller report, william barr is threatening to cancel his testimony over concerns about the hearing format. >> reporter: william barr is expected to testify before the senate judiciary committee on wednesday. but whether he also will testify before the house judiciary committee on thursday is in doubt. because of the way that the hearing is being set up on the

a legendary singer known for her rendition of god bless america is now at the center of

diversity.>> it all involves lyrics from a couple other songs that are decades old.>> reporter: the first lady of radio, and a presidential medal of freedom honoree. kate smith is best known for her iconic rendition of an american classic. the lasers version of god bless america has long been a staple of the seventh inning stretch at new york yankees games as well as philadelphia flyers home games. but recently the yankees held the rendition, two songs performed by her in 19 41 featuring racially charged lyrics. reaction in philadelphia is even stronger, the flyers not only announcing plans to halt her rendition of god bless america but to remove a statue of the famed singer from outside wells fargo center. she has a special place in flyers history, her rendition played at a game in 1969 developing into what fans saw as a good luck charm, as almost

every time her version was played the flyers one.>> is part of the tradition and i think they should keep it. i think if they want to win they better keep it.>> reporter: 36 wins, three losses and one tie. as for the decision to stop playing the song and remove the statue, the team issuing a statement saying while kate smith's performance of god bless america cannot be erased from his place in flyers history, that rendition will no longer be featured in our game presentations. earlier today we completed the removal of the kate smith statue from its former location outside of our arena. while family members who passed away in 1986 argued that the songs weren't satire of the area and held no prejudice towards anyone. while the flyers and yankees have suspended their use of god bless america it will still play daily on the boardwalk in the community of wildwood new

jersey. a classic version claiming those two teams overreacted to pass racially charged lyrics. temperatures much cooler than last week, all because of this far that is pretty deep, around 2000 feet deep so with that inland extended fog push we are seeing temperatures today, tomorrow and the next couple days dropping off. about where they should be or below average but not warmer than average and i think we mostly see 70s this entire week. to the south the green area representing lots of drizzle and mist, some sprinkles around santa barbara but that's one of the mechanisms, it is pulling in that high-pressure center and then there is another one that slides through. that weakens further so that's how the week goes, we're just going to have a deep marine layer, one in the south and one in the north, we are going to see breezy conditions along the

coast, wind surface on the bay you're going to love this, a good weekend or good week for sailing. lots of sailboat racing on the bay right now and the weather would be good for that. as we look at the wind right now generally out of the west or southwest it makes sense, temperatures in the low 50s and this is the story for the whole week. when you wake up tomorrow morning you're going to see it inside of a, probably over in hayward and oakland and berkeley. with that said we might see a bit of drizzle late tonight and early tomorrow morning because of the proximity of these lows. overnight lows with patchy fog and lots of low clouds in the morning will be generally where they have been, that's in the 50s so this is the forecast model for tomorrow.

you'll see the fog pretty far inland, yellows are 70s. it's not that different from what we had today. mid-70s and upper 70s, a couple low 80s, vacaville could hit 80 but for the most part were looking at 70s. 78 in pittsburgh, 72 in the valley. the wind is flushing everything out but not what it was last week. this will help out with the hayfever sufferers, moisture atmosphere has a tendency to keep pollen from floating around. the seven in san bruno and 67 in san mateo, the five day forecast takes you right through the week and you kind of get the picture here, wednesday and thursday it warms up a little bit in time for another week low pressure center to come in and increase the clouds and cool us down. no extremes here. not too hot and not too cold,

just right. some incredible figures from the opening weekend for the movie avengers endgame. the film made an estimated $1.2 billion around the world this weekend. $1.2 billion, it shattered the previous record set by avengers infinity war which made $640 million for its opening last year. endgame also broke the opening record in north america, making an estimated $350 million in north america this weekend. captain marvel was a distant second with just over $8 million in ticket sales, the curse of lyra breakthrough and shazam rounded out the five box office hits this weekend but this is just amazing, 90% of all u.s. movie ticket sales this weekend were for avengers
