vendors come in here. they came in here really early this morning, got a bunch of stuff to stock their shelves this morning. and you know, they took a hard hit over the last few years during covid-19 during the pandemic, but they are bouncing back this week, especially as we just wrapped up small business week in san francisco this year, and this is kind of the talk of the market here this morning. it's the first time since 2019. that people within the flower mark and not need to worry about covid-19 protocols. that means no masks. no proof of vaccination feels a little bit more like normal pre pandemic times. i asked vendors here this morning what the mother's day flower of the year this year is going to me, and they say the peonies easily take the cake. peonies are like, kind of like so many pedals. they're kind of big, fluffy flowers. they do have, like some, like kind of particular smell. and they are very particular because it only comes from once on a year. like locally we keep it also all year round, but they're imported from
8:04 am
all over the world. definitely peonies, the winner for this season. so we saw the vendor stocking up shells for their own shafts. we saw people shopping for their own families earlier this morning as well. one man came here at six this morning just to make sure that he beat the rush of the last minute shoppers. we're going to see that rush, probably, and a little under an hour. now what you'll see. now are store owners for the day stocking up their shelves. but the doors here will remain open for the public until about 11 this morning. so you do have a small window to get some of those last minute flowers. if you still need to do that for the day or live this morning in san francisco, i'm james torres ktvu. fox two news, james before you go, i have a question because yes, i know a lot of people watching right now going 11. oh, boy. i'm getting up. how are prices because that's something we've been talking about this week as well in terms of them being higher or lower than they would have been in years past. yeah and that's certainly always the question.
8:05 am
whenever we talk about flowers on any holiday, we haven't seen conversation for valentine's day, as well as an exact number . i haven't gotten any quotes yet. but we did talk to some of the vendors and the general manager here this morning, and they always told us that despite what you may see in some business journals and business reports, days, like valentine's day days, like mother's day, you'll still find some of those same raids. you're not going to see these hiked up prices, especially in places like a mark . you may notice that your local flower shop or some, you know, one of those markets are safe ways or something like that, but actual wholesaler you should expect to see pretty much the same. all right. well that sounds good. plenty of options out there, too. and certainly this is one of the stories we start getting calls from your order. other folks going. hey, so while you're there, then no. you and you grab his peonies. so alright. thanks, james. thanks for i wish i could smell how beautiful it is down there. we appreciate the report. we'll check back in with you in just a bit. mhm and time now is 805 this morning police in concord
