the third ongoing inflation and recession fears are driving big selloff. joining us now is morgan stanley financial advisor . george knew teddy to talk about it a little bit, george. good morning. morning frank. well, i'm a proud cal bears. you know, a bear territory is near and dear to me, but in money matters, uh, not so much are we approaching correction territory now with the market. well all three indexes are in correction territory. the dow is about four points off of being in bear territory, which we love the calibers, but not in the stock market. nasdaq is has been in in bear territory off about 29. off of its 52 week high and the s and p 500 is really flattering with that. it was in correction . it was in their territory for a couple of moments there on friday and then closed up a little bit. so, essentially, we're in bear markets and all three of these. yeah it has been tough sledding since new year's day. let's talk about patients. and those that are impatient.
8:16 am
how long do you whether the monster dips and if you haven't sold yet? and when should you jump back in because there's some great bargains, especially in tech stocks right now. well we've heard a lot about patients , and it's really hard to exhibit that in a market that's convergent evolved, but the whole idea really is to sell high and buy low. so if you sold now and got out of the market, even baking in a pretty significant loss in some cases, i mean, if you look at the bank stocks, all the big tech i flyers they're down off their 52 week high anywhere from 49% to 75. so if you got out, that's a big loss, so you never really want to get out of the market. you want to position and make your portfolio more defensive, but you really you don't know when to come back in. essentially and so market timing really doesn't really doesn't work. you have better chance to win the lottery. sometimes instead of, uh, you know, try to time the market, frank. is it true? you think back to 2000 and eight and when the market went way down and have you pulled your money out? there were like

regardless of the price. they've been leading the charge, so they become very overvalued about 12. months ago, we started telling our clients we're going to start the risking the portfolios and we're going to d emphasize growth. stocks still keep them but the emphasis them and overemphasized value stocks because we felt there would be a selloff. well that's happening, and we're still in the process of that right now. and so tech because it's such a high flyer. is really getting the brunt of that right now. well very good gas prices driving through one a creek needed a little gas. i just kept driving. 6 20 no, not stopping there. 6 45. i got it from gas. no i got it for 5 99 right now it's hard to find gas in the bay area. under six bucks a gallon. your thoughts where that's going. well i think we're kind of peeking on it right now. i mean, people are buying. actually, people are buying more gas, and that's driving up the price. i mean, more people are working, so they need their vehicles to be four to get to and from wherever they have to
8:19 am
go to work, so those prices are continuing to remain high. but this is all about the supply and demand curve. i mean, there's tons of oil in the ground and, you know, heating oil and that and that sort of thing. we just start mining it, uh, you know, during covid. oil was trading at about $40 a barrel and so it wasn't effective. wasn't cost effective to do that. now, with everybody getting out and all the travel it's going on. we're seeing normal demand plus pent up demand. that's driving prices we have, because supply is low, but we're in the process now of mining from oil and getting out of the ground doesn't happen overnight and well, that's happening. the federal reserve is releasing about excuse me, the government's releasing about a million barrels a day out of the reserve. i know it's six o'clock you'd be watching the warriors game quick prediction. well in this case, i am a ball. i'm not a bear a bull and then in this particular case, so you know rep to it's gonna be tough going back. you know to dallas to play, the mavericks will be big headwind there. but i love these guys. and i'm more emotional. so i'm gonna be both bullish all the way. you were a

let's bring in rosemary and talk about this wonderful weekend. it's gonna feel like summer. i guess the next couple of days. yes, the heat is going to be on as we get into, especially tuesday. that's going to be the hottest day although things start to warm up tomorrow today. it's going to be a lot like yesterday, in fact, barely budging the numbers. here is a look over san francisco a little bit of fog out there along the coast and inside the bay. also a little bit of haze and air quality over san francisco right now is moderate with the light winds in place. do expect it to remain moderate for today, look at the visibility along the coastline, half moon bay reporting three miles everybody else looking good. even three miles is not bad, but you'll find some patchy fog along the coast and perhaps along highway one this morning storm tracker to showing you we've got more fog as you head towards monterey in the central coast, as well as the southern california coastline socked in pretty good, but we have mostly clear skies. the winds are light will get a little bit of an afternoon sea breeze as fo right now northwest

interested in learning about what's happening at k 12 schools to they were for now, the pilot study is small with menlo is the sole participant and they're only testing it two of their schools, but the hope is by monitoring air and water. scientists can see covid spikes or even new variants coming, so we would like to get to a place where we can provide californians and nationally, this sort of pathogen map to let folks know when things look good , and when we need to take precautions, researchers say environmental testing also has the advantage of being less invasive. no swabs needed. hopefully maybe this will become sort of the normal way of testing for pathogens out of school population. the air testing is only just begun, and they're still experimenting with what equipment works fast. sampling has been going on for a few weeks. final results won't come until summer, but the school district is already getting helpful updates. and so what we're seeing right now is we are seeing an uptick in the

rates of covid in our sewage. uh and what? how we responded is by reaching out to the community and saying hey, now is the time to put a mask back on the pilot program is expected to last eight weeks. although the end date may be flexible, no word on whether it might be expanded next year. in menlo park and ruben ktvu, fox, two news health officials across the country are looking for any new cases of monkeypox. while it's not as contagious as covid doctors trying to prevent the current outbreak from getting any worse friday, the cdc issued a warning to doctors across the country to be on the lookout. first symptoms of the virus begins with a rash, which then turns to bumps filled with purse and usually runs its course between 2 to 4 weeks with flu like symptoms, experts say. monkey pox is usually confirmed are confined rather to west africa. but this year, europe has seen at least 70 confirmed cases and there are two currently here in

the us something that's spreading through social networks and because it lacks some of those prior epidemiological characteristics , we may miss cases, cases may have the opportunity to spread and that's likely going to cause more cases to be found in the coming days and weeks. monkey pox generally requires close physical contact or bodily fluids to transmit. right now, there is a lot of treatment for that virus. well tomorrow two olympians are going to visit a group of young swimmers in the east bank. it is all part of the make a splash tour from the usa swimming foundation, which is designed to raise national awareness and spread the lifesaving message. of learning to swim among children, family and communities, but it does even more. let's welcome to the studio, kent yoshiwara from the pacific swimming and john chandra of richmond. selfish both groups focusing on getting divers swimmers into the pool. so this is exciting. thanks for coming in. thanks for having us let's talk about pacific swimming, first and local governing body of kind of these
8:43 am
, these swim meets and events that you have. tell me about trying to get these diverse kids into the pool. so we have over 100 teams within pacific swimming. and each team runs their own program, and so we're trying to encourage and providing support services for those teams to reach out to their communities to diversify their team. how much diversity is there in swimming? when we when we take a look at the sport, very little so it's predominantly caucasian sport. very few swimmers of color, and that's what we're trying to change. so let's talk about why that is john. tell me tell me what you're seeing consumers in the pool and getting kids to get into the pool and families interested in swimming. it's been a real struggle in richmond because there isn't a lot of swimming culture. a lot of families have parents who don't know how to swim, so they're less likely to encourage their children to take swim lessons. so we're really having to try and create a new mindset around why swimming is important. it's life saving skill. it's not just something that's fun to do. and richmond has a lot of shore line and a lot of beaches, so there's a lot of areas where there's the
8:44 am
potential for drownings or other serious accident is one of those things that we teach our kids what we're familiar with, and so it kind of cycles in the good and the stuff that we miss. i think in the process tell me that when you see these kids get into the water, and what's swimming does as a sport really in in terms of the changes that you see in kids, you know, sports in general is helpful. what about swimming in particular? we've seen a lot of our swimmers who stay with our team. they start young go on to graduate high school. we've helped a lot of them become lifeguards to have a job during the summers. our assistant coach currently is first college graduate from cal. she graduated last week, and we have a number of other students who are in college currently, so it's also just seeing them grow and build their confidence and find their own path in life and would like to be a part of helping them on that journey. it's remarkable, ken, what do you see across the board? in terms of all these different teams that you're talking about? what john is talking about? is that the same struggle that you're seeing here and really, you know, everywhere when it comes to exposure, and getting kids in varies from community to community. some
8:45 am
communities have a really strong learned to swim program. and those kids trance. transfer right into a swim program. whereas other communities don't have those learned to swim programs, and that's where we're finding. you know, the biggest deficit accessibility, right? if you have a lot of pools around, it makes it a little easier if you have to travel or that's further than it makes it harder. so you've got these olympians coming to town and now to you have nathan adrian and elizabeth beisel there, nathan adrian, i think eight time olympic medalists and elizabeth a two time i on a first name basis, apparently with them, but what does it mean for these children to see as well? these olympians come and spend some time with them. they are going to learn to do a little swimming and talk to get in the pool with them. i know nathan. adrian actually went to cal, so he's got some local connections. what does this do for them? so that's a role model for them. there's not a whole lot of role models, let's say in the media so you could turn on the tv and see, you know. steph curry and the warriors and but you don't
8:46 am
really see any swimming and really didn't know them by name , to know them and see where their story is and how they ended up in the pool. and so what will they do tomorrow tomorrow, and we also are having cullen jones so there will be three olympians there. he's the primary spokesperson for the makeup splash foundation. they're going to be getting in the water to teach swim lessons to our group of lesson. swimmers were not deep water safe. and then afterward they're going to be doing kind of a mini swim clinic for the swim team. kids working on dives turns and some of the other fundamental components of swimming. and so if you have parents at home watching right now, saying, i do need to get my kid in the pool, i don't swim or i and i just ht done it. what is your best? tips and suggestions for them so well, they need to look for their local, um organization giving swim lessons, whether it's parks and rec or some other swim school in their neighborhood. and if cost is an issue, there are programs. i think you guys both have programs to help out splash foundation also has a directory so you can search by your location to find a local

guess, 90 plus in some spots, right? yes it is going to be baking inland where we're going to see perhaps some of the hottest temperatures so far this season. as we get into tuesday, today is going to be a lot like yesterday. quality is good to moderate around the region this morning, we'll check in on the current conditions show you the afternoon highs for today. talk more about that big heat up coming our way in the extended forecast coming up thank you. rosemary topping our news at nine o'clock firefighters and solano county now gaining ground on that big grassfire near vacaville from yesterday. ktvu tom baker joins us live with some new information on the quail fire, which started on saturday afternoon, tom. well we were able to get close up to this burn scar and by getting up to the spurns car we really understand more about why there are so many firefighters still up there, see from this distance. the fire appears to be out but got close where those fire crews are standing by and there are plenty and i do mean plenty of hotspots. this area
9:02 am
has been burned in a long time. but it surely dodged a bullet. a bullet inadvertently launched when a person committed a huge taboo mowing the lawn in the afternoon heat and wind. this time of year. we typically start to see the transition when the live fuels dry out. but at this point in the year they're pretty dry and they're ready to burn the quail fire, which started mid afternoon yesterday, burned 150 acres and forced evacuations. helicopters and other aircraft were called in giving the ground crews the big assist in battling the windswept fire by 7 15 last night. it was 45% contained in the evacuation order was reduced to an evacuation warning. by this morning it was in the final cleanup stages. the huge advantage here was the cal fire's main firefighting air force base mcclelland field in sacramento. there's no more than 50 air miles from the quail fire site. from here. almost any size or speed of aircraft can be
9:03 am
dispatched for a very quick trip to close by locations or within any of the many fire attack bases throughout the state. cal fire can also choose from hundreds of live screaming cameras to see how to prioritize airstrikes and crew dispatches for maximum effect within their capabilities. again those hot spots within the containment perimeter are many and the winds are most definitely picking up now, and that's when this becomes an issue because of the winds pick up down here. they're going to pick up even more up there and that could become a problem. hence all those fire crews still standing by for how many hours it takes. reporting live. tom baker, ktvu fox tune, tom, not a big big fire by any means. it could have got much larger, but i guess the topography ah, and where that fire was that cal fire kind on edge, didn't it? it did indeed,
9:04 am
