right now on the golden gate bridge, it looks pretty good as you head south bay bridge toll plaza. also maybe overcast, but not foggy and that particularly windy here, westbound traffic is late for a one. let's go back to the desk. california voters will decide in november if the right to an abortion and should be guaranteed in the state. constitution state lawmakers approved putting a constitutional amendment on the ballot, saying the amendment would make it undeniably clear that in california abortion and contraception or considered health care and are a private matter between the patient and their medical provider. east bay. assemblywoman buffy wicks has talked publicly about how she had an abortion. when she was 25 years old. she supports the amendment. i went to planned parenthood, and they welcomed me with warmth, respect, love and information and the ability to make my own decision. and with that decision has meant for me. i made that decision. i got to make that decision. and because i got to make that decision. i

ended up on a path that has led me to here. i to where i am today. now our joint statement was issued by california attorney general rob bonta international coalition of 22 attorneys general reaffirming their commitment to protect access to abortion care. banta says the coalition will keep fighting to support the rights of women. as other states take steps to restrict abortions. new lawsuits are challenging them. judges have temporarily blocked what's called trigger laws from taking effect in utah and louisiana. those are bands on abortions that were designed to take effect as soon as that supreme court overturned roe v. wade abortion rights supporters have filed similar lawsuits in idaho, texas, kentucky and mississippi. this is a seismic decision that we're going to be dealing with for years to come. certainly every state is going to react differently. you're going to have different laws in each state. demand for abortion pills has increased since the

supreme court ruling the pills are used in more than half of abortions in the u. s 403. well some states like west virginia that don't have trigger laws plan to reinstate old antiabortion laws. donna crane, san jose political science professor, says some of those laws date back as far as the 18 hundreds. state legislatures, though if they're really antiabortion, they're going to have to confront the politics of reopening that law, though, because there will be pro choice forces also waiting in every state to take the opportunity to try to strip those bands off of the books altogether. so um, that's a big political and legal mess, and i just never want to lose sight of, you know who's on the other end of this doctors and women, but yes, a big legal mess. now professor crane thinks some states may target corporations that promised to pay the travel expenses for employees who seek abortions. some of those companies include disney, tesla and netflix. bay area telehealth company. reports

spokesperson for the panel did not want to comment. you can watch the hearing on ktvu. plus it starts at 10 a.m. you can also see it online by going to ktvu .com. the man accused in last week's deadly shooting on immunity. metro train in san francisco will not face murder charges now, the san francisco district attorney says 26 year old javon green will be charged with gun violations for the killing of 27 year old nest a bow in green's lawyer says bow and pulled out a knife and directed it at green green acted in self defense. a 70 year old innocent bystander who was also shot in the incident. person since been released from the hospital, thomas for oh, a police city of albany arrested a woman on suspicion of arson in connection with two fires. take a look at video from the scene of that arrest. 31 year old meghan straw is accused of starting both fires sunday afternoon. one fire was near pearse street park. the

other was reported a few blocks away. several people who lived nearby were evacuated. firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes. and we learned that a man has died in connection with a grass fire in petaluma. the roadblock fire started yesterday afternoon about 2 30 in a rural area officials aren't saying yet how that man died. smoke from the fire could be seen across petaluma, ca tati in rohnert park at 63 acres burn. it's now fully contained. investigators are still looking for the cause of that fire. and investigators are looking for the cause of several fires that burned near highway one. oh, one north of novato. no homes were threatened , but the chp had to shut down the north bend lanes of the freeway. near the nevada landfill. smart train service had to be suspended for a short time. firefighters were able to contain the fire after it burned 135 acres. they stayed along the

among 16 others who are still alive and taken to local hospitals. they were suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration. authorities say three suspected human smugglers are now in custody in connection with this tragic incident. this individuals have no care and no at all for human life, so they put them in the back of his tractor trailers. individuals don't know where they are, where they're going. now this deadly incident in san antonio comes amid a record number of migrants crossing the border from mexico into the united states. u. s immigration agents say they are on pace to make a record number of border arrests this year. time is not for 15 federal investigators with the national transportation safety board are looking for the cause of that deadly train derailment in missouri. at least three people were killed. 40 others were hurt when an amtrak train collidedeaf kansas city, and track say is the train was going from los angeles to chicago when seven of

working with law enforcement officials around the state to crack down on illegal fireworks . they're focusing on fireworks sold online, including craigslist and facebook. people in possession of illegal fireworks face fines of up to $50,000 and possibly one year in jail. we've confiscated a lot of fireworks sold through the internet that were made at home were not made under any type of safety standards, and unfortunately, those are where we see a significant amount of injuries each year. cal fire's reminding people even legal fireworks can start fires, and that's especially true with our recent high temperatures and dry conditions, you can only use safe and sane fireworks in the cities where it is legal to buy them. that includes gilroy, union city, newark, dublin, dixon soon city, rio vista, san bruno and pacifica in southern california. a whole neighborhood had to be evacuated. police found almost a ton of the illegal fireworks. angeles

county fire investigators rushed to a home in the city of azusa. after a report of possible fireworks, they found £1800 of homemade and commercial grade fireworks in a van parked on the property officials quickly evacuated 27 nearby homes. i gotta. alert on the watch that there was a house. had firecrackers and the evacuated some people, and then i heard the helicopters hoovering around , so i came out to see what's going on. and to my surprise or not, to my surprise, but but they got this whole spring shut down right here and the fireworks have been going on quite often here. now one person was detained for questioning. the fireworks were seized. they were taken away to be detonated. pretty scary. yeah especially steve with the hot weather, the dry conditions and the wind that picks up well, thankfully, it's

not a north or northeast. that is a savior. wind is never good this time of year, but at least it's west wind, which means higher humidity. so that that helps here we're getting an onshore breeze. we do have fog so closer to the coast so you can see. i mean, this sure beats the north northeast by far. otherwise we'd be novel, saying no fog and much higher temperatures. this is a significant drop to go from almost 82 69 70. that's a 10 degree drop. now we'll see if it goes back up a little bit, but it sure looks to me like, you know, not not much change coast in bay, but inland temps will probably start to ratchet down a little bit here. i always struggle with the forecast size for about an hour until i figure things out here. bodega bay, 50 to san francisco buoy 53. would not be surprised. they start to go down and in the city you're seeing low fifties here from a 51 54 52 53 51 west southwest. i mean, there's pretty good breeze there so and even out to the delta, it's an onshore breeze. napa airport travis vacaville.

that's an onshore breeze. although vacaville yesterday hit one oh, five stockton was 100. so there's a fine line between words. not that bad man. it's hot fifties on the temps here sixties if you're well inland, brentwood, lower leg. no help yet for lake county, but probably tomorrow will start. fifties on attempts kensington's 50 to 55 lafayette says, hey, we're 55 yet. 60 for danville, also dublin and pleasant and mid sixties pittsburgh and also brentwood. from mid fifties, though hayward and also union city 37 41 for trucking in south lake tahoe, 62 to 77 80 from sacramento, fresno and bakersfield. that's a big spread on those temps. no man soon. that's another sign that the highest moving and as it does, it takes its moisture with it. fog and low clouds continue to move in. is that system deepens and as it does, that's going to open the door to a much cooler pattern statewide. and not just us, not even out to the just to the delta. it'll be northern and central california here sixties seventies eighties and nineties on the temps. they will continue to cool off, especially starting tomorrow in to thursday. alright

the past year traveling around california taking pictures of drought and disaster. ktvu is elissa harrington shows us how he is now using billboards across the bay area. to showcase his message this bill born in oakland's fruitvale neighborhood , shows a picture of a homeless encampment on wood street. this one in rockridge shows a burned out building in plumas county destroyed in the dixie fire last summer. and this billboard along piedmont avenue. the billboard on the left. that's um folsom lake, which last year was incredibly low. thomas browning is the oakland based photographer behind this campaign. he calls the end of the dream. he spent the past year and a half taking pictures of areas impacted by drought, fire and the housing crisis. california's in real trouble. you know, we have these droughts that you know the last for months months and these fires that burn out of control. you know, millions of acres and then we have in every single city in california. we have this homeless encampments and manageable anywhere else in the

in the country zone money, putting these images on billboards. so far, there are eight in oakland, six up north in oroville in next month. more billboards go up in los angeles . it's billboard. there's no text, there's no call to action. i think the first thing we need to do is to look at the problem. that's my goal. just have people look at look at it. the project is getting a lot of attention, and my friends have actually noticed the billboards. neighbor jonathan fault, said the images of homelessness impact him the most, especially since many of the pictures were taken here in the bay area. when you see people living out on the streets and you know about the struggle out here in oakland? i mean, a lot of people come out here to california because because it's sunny and it's warm and you can survive. but i mean the real problem, said the images speak for themselves. but the lack of text was confusing for some people we talked to because it's hard to react to something when i don't know what's trying to say, said his goal is to have his pictures on 100 billboards

and the majority of those polled say they support term limits on the u. s. supreme court as well as an age cap for justices. cvs rite aid and walmart are now rationing the plan b morning after pill after a spike in demand since last week's supreme court decision now cvs and rite aid are limiting purchases to three per person. walmarts limit is six. plan b is available without a prescription and is designed to be taken up to three days after unprotected sex. planned parenthood is discouraging people from stockpiling the drugs because they have a limited shelf life and could make supplies scarce for women who really need them. time is now 4 33 well. demand for abortion pills has also increased its a medication approved by the fda for use in the 1st 10 weeks of pregnancy, and it accounts for 54. of all abortions here in the us within hours of last friday's supreme court ruling, the biden administration announced action

to protect access to the abortion pill. what we will do at the federal level is make sure we continue to use our federal authorities to make women have access to the health care. they need to continue to make sure that something like medication abortion. is made available to all women, regardless of what state they're in. no back in december, the fda ended a requirement that the drug has to be dispensed in person, allowing doctors to mail it to patients. several states have now banned abortions include a ban on medication abortions. abortion rights groups are taking action to help women obtained the pills and states where they are legal. the administrator said. stanford medicine are being criticized for a letter they sent in response to the supreme court's ruling on abortion. critics say the letter expressed concern for people on both sides of the abortion debate and seemed to suggest that stanford medical center would continue performing abortions only because it's required under california law. in response to the backlash, the

suspended him in 2015 after he refused to stop kneeling and praying on the 50 yard line. after games. the justices found that the district infringed on the coaches, religious freedom and free speech rights. the ruling worries, some who say it blurs the line between church and state adopted a test that frankly, is more forgiving towards religious speech and expression. really don't know what to say. i just can't stop smiling and you know, thank god and thank everybody that supported me and i found out that i'm not insane. now in the dissent, opinion, justice sonia sotomayor wrote that the decision quote elevates the religious rights of a school official who voluntarily accepted public employment and the limits that public employment entails over those of his students. there are still some other major supreme court decisions that have yet to be handed down. justices are still considering whether the biden administration can end a trump

on morning sun to the investigation is now underway into the deadliest smuggling incident of its kind in u. s history. authorities in texas say the bodies of at least 46 migrants were found in the back of a big rig that had been abandoned in san antonio yesterday in triple digit heat. several children are among 16 others who were still alive and taken to local hospitals. they were suffering from extreme heat exhaustion and dehydration. authorities say three suspected human smugglers are now in custody in connection with this tragic incident. these individuals have no care and no at all for human life, so they put them in the back of his tractor trailers. individuals don't know where they are, where they're going. the deadly incident in san antonio comes

according to the press democrat , nearly one third of its temporary staffers will be let go. the county says many of the temporary workers have already been given the resignations. the nationwide labor shortages, not just affecting the private sector. ktvu south bay reporter mark sayer explains the challenges in san jose city hall as city governments across the country are also having trouble finding workers. the city of san jose has nearly 7000 positions, but about one in 10 of those is not filled. the current job vacancy rate is about 13% the needs are great from information technology to animal care to building inspections and compliance to public safety. and the city can just not find enough qualified candidates in some places. labor market shortages that got more serious , for example, in the trades areas many of our departments if you think about the city of san jose, where what's called a full service city a to z airport to a zoo and everything in between san jose assistant hr director

kelly parmley says the forces which are impacting the private sector are the same ones facing the city. people are rethinking their priorities and so like everyone else, folks are sam inning. what they do why they do it. um, are there better ways for them to spend their employed time as well as their personal time since 2013. the city has offered existing employees of $500 referral bonus. but in february of this year, the city bumped that up to $1500. on tuesday, the city council will be asked to extend the extra bonus program at least through the end of the year. how can we inspire current employees who care about what they do who are purpose and mission driven to, um seek out others from outside of the city or external. what we call people external to the city to come and apply. even though the city has 800 open positions , you won't find that many at any given time on the city's website. that's because there is a limit to how many employees the city can interview and actually on board at any given

beneath a concord, walnut creek, and there have been no major issues here. highway 24 is looking good, and if you're driving to any of the bay area bridges, you have a window of opportunity right now. 601 let's get back to the headlines. all right. thank you. sal, one of the bay area's biggest real estate developers, has purchased california's great america amusement park. ktvu is james torres joins us now from santa clara to talk about what this means for the park's future. good morning, james. good morning, pamela. the park has been in the city of santa clara since 1976. and now it seems that it only has up to 11 years left to exist. its owner cedar fair released a statement saying that it's now sold the parts sold the real estate. for about a $310 million transaction. great america we know now will be handed over to a company called prologis. that's a san francisco based real estate company and cedar fair says it looked to sell the park since 2021 hoping to reduce its debt and invest more money in its other resort properties. we have

a statement from cedar fair president and ceo richard zimmerman, which reads in part, we chose challenges as our partner because of their deep ties in the bay area and the reputation for working closely with local communities on large projects for our investors. the sale and lease agreements allow us to monetize a high value asset in the heart of silicon valley at a very attractive multiple cedar fair bought the land from the city of santa clara back in 2019, at least the land from the city for 40 years before that. cedar fair will now release the park from prologis for at least six years with an option to renew that leads for an additional five years. the park is then set to close and no more than that 11 year total span. prologis great. america's new owner has not yet commented on the plan, so we don't know what's in store for the real estate just yet. after that 11 year exploration, we are learning some more details about exactly how much that lease is going to be worth and at some point largest, could also cut

time that six oh, six san francisco police officer was arrested in connection with a fraud investigation accused of committing crimes while off duty. the d a s office told ktvu that officer adam meteor loaned his mustang to a friend. and got into a crash. the officer reportedly told his friend that the damaged car was not insured and asked him for $49,000 as compensation. your office is also accused of making fraudulent statements to his own insurance company at the 15 year police veteran surrendered on friday he was booke on charges of grand theft, insurance fraud and other chargers. the san francisco police officers association responded to that arrest, saying, in part quote if the allegations against adam media are true, he must face the legal consequences of his actions. it is actions if true. disgrace our start and he should be held fully accountable by the

department. the man accused in last week's deadly shooting on immunity. metro train in san francisco will not face murder charges, the san francisco district attorney says 26 year old j. von green will be charged with gun violations for the killing of 27 year old nesta bowen. green's lawyer says bowen pulled out a knife and directed it at green and green acted in self defense. a 70 year old innocent bystander who was also shot in the incident has since been released from the hospital. time is now 608. police in the east bay city of albany arrested a woman on suspicion of arson in connection with two fires. take a look at video from the scene of that arrest. 31 year old meghan straw is accused of starting both fires sunday afternoon. one fire was near pearse street park, the other reported a few blocks away. several people who lived nearby were evacuated. the firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby homes. also we have learned that a man has died in

13 federal investigators with the national transportation safety board. looking for the cause about deadly train derailment. in missouri. at least three people were killed. 40 others were heard when i'm trying to train collided with a dump truck in a rural area northeast of kansas city. amtrak says the train was headed from los angeles to chicago when seven of its eight cars derailed . three people who died include two people who were on that train. another was in that dump truck, one passenger said people on the train were climbing out through windows. so boom. my side of the window is now the floor and the other side of the train is now the ceiling. and so everybody is kind of trying to figure out what's going on, get their bearings and everything. we started checking to see if anybody was hurt. try to deal with them first. then we tried to figure out how we're going to get out of here. now the train

crossing did not have a signal or a crossing arm. but authorities say that's not unusual in rural areas. blue has stepped up its bidding war with frontier and raised its offer once again to buy spirit airlines. the new proposal includes a dividend to spirit. shareholders of 2 50 a share. that's up from a dollar 50 a share in a previous offer. jetblue also increased its breakup fee to spirit by 50 million for a total of $400 million if regulators don't approve that deal now, that has been spirits biggest concern about a deal with jetblue. the new offer, though, comes just days before spirit shareholders. are scheduled to vote on a merger deal with frontier airlines. alright our time is 6 15 if you'll be heading out of town for the long holiday weekend, expect to run into more flight delays. ktvu is andre senior is here now and pilots from almost all the major airlines, andres say a big part of the problem is a shortage of

flight crew. big big issue here. delta pilots and frank in fact to say on thursday, the day before, a lot of people are heading to airports for their holiday travel, there'll be picketing on their own time to raise awareness of the problem and how it affects pilots and passengers alike. the pilots will be at airports across the country that are served by delta . they say they're just as frustrated as travelers who are suffering through long delays and flight cancelations and getting stranded at airports. they want the airline to change its flight schedules to reduce flight disruptions. last week, the pilots released an open letter accusing management of scheduling more flights than its current number of pilots could cover. as pilots. we are beyond exhausted. they are trying to get us to fly to the maximums. for safety reasons. the faa limits the number of hours a pilot can be on duty that includes the time when the pilot is under power and capable of movement or the aircraft is such as a taxiing de icing waiting time if the agents are on for

commercial pilots. the current limit is 35 hours a week and no more than 125 hours a month, and pilots must have 10 hours between their final trip of the day and the first flight of the next day. the number of pilots and flight engineers has dropped by 4% of the last two years, and fewer people are interested in becoming airline pilots. passengers say they understand the need for well rested pilots , especially after they experienced extended flight delays even once during a trip. had a 17 hour delay. it was i was there for 12 hours, and it was a six hour delay in there 18 hours. um and then i finally got here and i'm afraid it's gonna beotested at their major hub in dallas yesterday, and they've written a letter to management, saying pilots are more than three times as fatigued right now as they were throughout the pandemic. pilots for american airlines reports. similar problems and all the pilots say they have been struggling to get

constitutional amendment. that's right, dave. the issue will go to california voters this november. where to whether to put the right to access to contraceptives and abortion in the state constitution. now, according to several polls, californians are expected to approve this with a strong majority. the proposed amendment says that the state quote shall not deny or interfere with an individual's reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and their fundamental right to choose or refuse contraceptives and quote now, even before the supreme court decision overturning roe v. raid came out on friday, state lawmakers were already working on this resolution. the senate passed it overwhelmingly last week. but it moved to the assembly for your floor yesterday with the new sense of urgency this week because of the supreme court's actions. the resolution for that constitutional amendment passed overwhelmingly in the assembly, 58 to 16, far more than the two thirds majority it needed. think about the fact that my daughters and all of our daughters are going to grow up in a country
