hours of debate and meetings last night. president you know, not agreed to the board voted 4 to 2 against the parents debate to reverse the closure plan. parents sent more than 2000 letters advocating for the board to keep those schools open. angry parents and community members say almost all of the schools scheduled to be closed, served mostly black and brown students. they're cutting services for our kit children. they're carrying teachers, so we're upset. some of the schools have already been closed or consolidated for the rest. next school year will be their final most, but not all school board members say there is not enough money to keep all the schools open because of declining enrollment and the cost of maintenance. i do not believe we have the resources to maintain the number of schools that we have in the footprint. really. it stretches our resources too thin, the last thing that i ever

imagined. that i would be sitting on the school board and have my colleagues on the board , not listen to the community. and vote to close community schools when we have money to keep our schools open, parents and their supporters say they will continue to fight to keep the targeted schools open. and they say that includes bringing their fight to the ballot box in november, when three school board members are up for election back to you, frank andre. thank you. santa clara county high school students who don't have homes may soon be getting a little bit of help from local leaders. state senator dave cortesi is asking the county to provide guaranteed income for five months to help high school seniors. his plan would give those students $1000 a month payments would start in april of their senior year and last until august, when they transition to college. our vocational training. it would be similar to the county's program , helping foster youth transitioning into adulthood.

time now 704, a 77 year old woman in san jose, is in jail, accused of homicide and arson. rebecca aquino was arrested and booked into the santa clara county main jail. last friday. firefighters rushed to a fire at a home where an elderly couple lived. they rescued an elderly man from an upstairs bedroom. he suffered smoke inhalation. he was in the hospital and later died on tuesday. investigators say his wife intentionally set that fire. there's no word about a possible motive. this by the way, was san jose's 18th homicide of the year. and a group of san jose teenagers have been arrested for an armed carjacking, and now they're facing similar charges of the ones. they were already on probation for, investigators say these teenagers committed a car jacking it ended near downtown san jose early sunday morning. police say they used a ghost to gun in car jacking. in this

event near the san jose state campus police helicopter tracked them north of the city until they crashed on coleman avenue near the highway 87 over past one of the teenagers was even wearing an ankle bracelet. it's part of his probation from similar crimes back in march. obviously something needs to change its not working a couple of months after committing those first carjackings are out doing another one. now the suspects are 14 year old to 15 year olds and a 17 year old, all of them back in custody of the juvenile justice system and the driver of that rideshare car that was was not seriously hurt. you'll get the car back after investigators go through it to retrieve any evidence they can find in that car. time now is 76. cal fire crews are starting to get a little bit of containment on that wildfire northwest of grass valley. the rices fire started in nevada county. it's 12 miles west of highway 49. it started

as a structure fire, but the flames quickly spread to nearby grass. it's now burned more than one square mile near the south fork of the yuba river. where there are several small communities that have been evacuated. firefighting aircraft called in because of the rugged terrain in the sierra, and that helped crews get 10% containment. so far, property owners say it's been a big relief to see the helicopters dropping water. for the crews on the ground can't reach. pretty big but stayed on the other side of the mountain. and thank god for that doing a good job. stars of aerial bombers. they're all doing good work. the tankers dropping fire retardant. they're expected to be back again today now that those strong winds from early yesterday seemed to be dying down. there are also fire crews from oakland and san francisco. they're heading into bad a county to help out it is

23 santa clara county vector control taking precautions after finding mosquitoes with west nile virus. they were found in mosquito traps near milpitas, and later tonight, vector control crews will be spraying in that area for mosquitoes. the vector control says it's common for mosquitoes to be active during summertime because they thrive in hot weather and in pockets of water. treatment involves using truck mounted equipment that releases and insecticide at what we call ultra low volume, which is sort of a missed um and we drive

stadium project forward or stop it right in its tracks. ktvu alley. rasmus joins us. live in san francisco with more on that. frank that agency is called the san francisco bay conservation and development commission. and about 90 minutes from now they'll be meeting here in san francisco on a crucial and key vote that could move the stadium project forward and keep the in oakland that be cdc oversees the bay area's ports, and anytime report is going to be used for a non maritime purpose. like for example, a ball parker stadium. this agency needs to give their permission today. they are expected to vote on whether to do that. a yes vote from this commission this morning means the ballpark project can move forward at howard terminal, and that is what is expected to happen. a staff report from the agency issued earlier this month recommended that its members approved that project, but community activists and labor groups are opposed to the stadium after howard terminal site representatives from the longshore workers union say a

badges and guns there were accused of chasing after a car that was involved in a deadly crash. and then left the crash scene. ktvu is henry lee has an update after hearing from the oakland police chief and the family of the victim. we identify potential. misconduct very serious potential misconduct. ktvu has learned from sources that to oakland police officers are under investigation for allegedly chasing a suspect without permission and then taking off after that suspect caused a crash that killed an innocent bystander. police chief karen armstrong would not go into detail but had this to say the additional information shows some irregularities and discrepancies involving to oakland police officers. sources tell us that to oakland police officers decided to go after this nissan 3 50 z that was allegedly involved in the legal site show near 45th and international at about two or early sunday morning. in this video posted the instagram the police car does not have its lights or sirens on the nissan reached speeds of up to 100

social travel, making a rebound . many americans are finding it difficult to get a passports and passport agencies have no open appointments for almost 90 days, three months, adding delays to the already long processing time. process could take almost five months. we're getting a lot of people coming in because of the pandemic when they couldn't get a passport now they're coming in to get a passport. the state department says it could take up to 11 weeks to routinely process an application for an extra fee. you can ask for an expedient passport or delta
