conditions. here is a look at storm tracker to not a lot of fog out there. we have just patches right along the coast and that's it, and our onshore breeze has weakened considerably as well. temperatures right now . 57 degrees in san francisco. we have 54 in napa low sixties to start your morning in walnut creek and 66 for brent webb. good morning. san jose at 63 areas actually, just a tad cooler than yesterday at this time, down by three degrees in oakland, half moon bay, your notably cooler at nine degrees getting into the winds out there . very calm over. napa santa rosa, oakland, a very gentle, very gentle he's through fairfield coming in from the southwest, so the excessive heat warning that we have been talking about now for a few days, as tom mentioned begins later this morning for our north bay valley and hills for our east bay valley and hills down through the santa clara valley over towards the santa cruz mountains now extends until eight p.m. on wednesday. the advisory for heat is for our basic communities, also now
7:09 am
through tuesday, rather than just monday, but it does include the east bay shore. it includes parts of the peninsula. it does not include san francisco. so it is not include our north bay coastline, nor does it include the san francisco coastline down to through about half moon bay, but santa cruz and capitola included in that as we heard santa cruz capital area going to be really, really warm and hot. here's a look at the cloud cover out there, not seeing much, just a little bit of patchy fog as we get into the afternoon hours. better details on the afternoon temperatures plus the extended forecast after the break. thank you. rosemary many of us might be hitting the beach over the weekend. cool down. but taking a dip in the water does come with risk more on that. it's a big hit for amazon prime video. next i sit down with one of the stars of a league of their own danville zone. d'arcy carden.

davidson tom hanks and madonna starred in the hit film a league of their own 30. years later, there's a new adaptation now streaming on prime video, and i talked one on one with d'arcy carden, one of the show's stars . she was born and raised in danville and talked with me about how this series takes us down some very different storylines. d'arcy carden! thank you so much for joining us very excited about your new show, a league of their own. i loved it watched every single episode had two quiet people down in my house and like i'm listening because the dialogue dog is fantastic. tell me how you're feeling about the show and really the reaction. it's receiving. thank you for watching. and thank you for quieting people down. um i feel real and like incredibly positive. it's been really it's only been two weeks. i guess that it's been hours a little over two weeks, and it's just
7:13 am
been like, um, you know, like the good version of overwhelming like, oh, i know overwhelming can mean stressful and it's like all it's all love. it's really great, and, um, it's just been the cast and crew and the writers were all just like thrilled by it. let's kind of dive into it, because if you are a fan of the movie back in the nineties, you have one version of what the story was and how it could be told and what i really liked about this version was it was a surprise it does it really dove deeper into some spaces. you know that i think are relevant to where we are now in society and things that when we look back in history, the stories that weren't being told the stories that we didn't see, you know, it's a funny thing, because like i am i'm such a huge fan of the movie. i love it. i just recently watched it a couple weeks ago. in fact, um and abby, the creator who also plays carson, um on the show she loves. i mean, it's this is a very beloved movie. i actually don't know anyone who doesn't like the movie. wait um so there's you know, it's a funny thing like we i feel like we are
7:14 am
honoring the movie with so much love, but then also not trying to retell the same stories that have been told. and i guess i mean that in a lot of ways, because it's like we don't need to retell the stories. that movie told but also we didn't really tell the same old stories that we've heard a million times and i feel like we get to um, learn about new characters and new there were there was so much going on in the forties, don't usually get to hear the stories out, and this is we get to dive deeper into that which is like thrilling, you know, like there's a there's a lot of clear characters in the in this show and a lot of your story lines and the fact is that was a course happening in the forties and forever, but it was so much less talked about as i'm sure you know, just from our history books, but also like our grandparents and our and our
7:15 am
elders like it's not something that is talked about a lot and obviously, in today's world, we do talk about it, and we do you know there's so much more representation, and this is this is one way that we're able to do that. and i'm it's um it's like such a thrill and such an honor to get to be a part of this kind of storytelling. and you know the black women that were playing baseball in the forties and not allowed to even try out for the league like that is an interesting story. that's that's a real story. that's like the story. that's the story. do you know what i mean? like there's pushback though, do you get pushback? was i worried about it? were they the creators? worried about it. in a way, of course, but also i don't know how to say this anyway, other than like, i don't care. and i don't mean to sound like a brat . i just mean i don't care. if it's not something that. you are interested in watching. i don't
7:16 am
really know what happened, like like i'm trying to think of like a really cool way to say this if , um having gay baseball players and black baseball players in the forties is something that offends you. then i don't really know what to tell you like maybe this show isn't for you, and that's okay. and i'm sure you know the people at the top. probably don't want me saying that, but that's really, really, really how i feel. i am i'm really interested in telling stories. that i haven't told before that i haven't gotten the chance to tell before that maybe haven't gotten to be told before. um i also just want to, um. i just want to do things that scare me. i think that's actually what greta sort of taught me. this character is. i was coming into this role. and while we were shooting it, i was it was i was scared. i was. she's a different kind of character that i have not played before, and i was not sure if i was getting it and um. it has
7:17 am
been so rewarding to i don't know, to just sort of go to kind of reprogram my brain, like, oh, the thing to do next is the thing that scares you. do you think hollywood plays a big role in continuing that space? yeah you go into houses that that people and introduce people to characters and lifestyles and you know different issues of gender sexuality. all of the above that may not have that in their space at home. home is a space for that. yes and you know , i like, hesitate to sort of claim that like that that a show or a movie could be that important to someone because it feels a little too grand. but i have seen it. i've seen it happen that somebody you know, i know that people are watching this show with parents or grandparents and we've we've we've gotten a lot of, like, really beautiful feedback about you know, grandparents talking in their grandchildren about
7:18 am
understanding them better now or what? it's just like you can't even you almost can't even hope for that getting into this. it's like too big. it's just such a beautiful thing that can happen when something affects people. darcy carden love the conversation. love the show. congratulations on this, and we can't wait to see what you are working on next. certainly bay area crowd. thank you so much. have a good one. so yes, she grew up in danville went to central high school. and she says, you know, really, the bay area is just kind of integrated into who she is. and new york doing great things and it looks great. and you watched almost did not at all said that that was great. it was really interesting conversation. but it is one of those shows that if you go into it expecting what you saw in 1992, you'll be in baseball. that kind of thing. yeah. i mean, you know those those and that's what her point was that that movie told some important stories. this series will tell some important other stories and dive deeper into some other topics, and it's an
7:19 am
interesting it's an interesting series. absolutely that time of year to the forties were great, and we learned a lot well tune in on amazon prime. in the meantime, some like it hot. that was a good movie in the fifties. i'm not sure we like it so much right now, though. some like it hot. in fact, one of our colleagues, christian captain, he likes triple digits, although i know he spends a lot of time in san francisco. sure you can love the heat when you drive to brentwood today, your afternoon high is 77 giving you a look outside our doors where we have a little bit of hazy sky out there this morning. we do have a spare the air. in place once agai right now, air quality across tegn reporting good. we are going with green this morning, north bay, central bay and down through the south bay. the inner east bay as well as the santa clara valley, getting just above that moderate mark, meaning slightly unhealthy for sensitive groups that in addition to all that heat out there for today, not seeing much of any fog and
7:20 am
the onshore breezes very, very weak. we have very warm, dry conditions already. mount diablo 85 degrees, relative humidity. 8% critically dry out there. ben lomond reporting 81 degrees and relative humidity is 13% 57 degrees right now in san francisco. we do have 54 in napa , inner east based 66 in brentwood and low sixties over areas of the san jose to start your morning. hayward you're at 59 if you go into the giants game this afternoon. gorgeous day in the city. mostly sunny skies 75 degrees at game time taken on the phillies. we do have a very west northwest light breeze out there 10 to 15 mph expected for the afternoon. so 75 we know beautiful weather. but if er the sun without the breeze could feel a bit warm. keep an eye on your little ones. 96 degrees the afternoon high for a san rafael for our east bay will go 85 in oakland. we get to the inner east bay. we're now above 101 oh, four in areas

7:34 am
what they're doing is taking their dogs for a walk, or they're walking themselves, taking advantage of the fact that the temperatures right now are kulish. but now is the sun comes up and actually peaks on us. it's starting to warm up pretty substantially, and crown beach is one of those places where a lot of folks from the inland they're going to come here. to get some sort of cooling as they will to the city and places like stinson beach all along the coast. but the reality is situation is that inland it is going to be very, very hot. we spoke to a guy who lives right around here and he told us what folks can expect and what's going to happen. i think i got really hot deal gets like 90 degrees, never in recent memory, never really experienced it going anything above 90 or 95 will definitely be cooler here on the beach. i wouldn't necessarily recommend swimming here. but you know, it'll be like a nice little reprieve. i tually okay now, but like in the past, i know that there have been some oil spills in the bay that have kind of filtration over here and then
7:35 am
on top of that, i think there was also like a lice like a sea lice outbreak like like 10 years ago. so i mean, i think a lot of like, you know, people who live here in alameda. they kind of just that it's kind of sore history. but a lot of people say it's just fine and they want to go in the water. there is still a question of algae, which, of course, is something that does concern people, but the beach itself is nice and wide and open and it's going to be very, very warm, so this will be a very popular place to go in the next hour. we'll be talking to some other folks who we met on the beach and what they're talking about doing and all of that stuff. pronounced tom baker ktvu flocks to nitties already, tom, thank you for that, as he mentioned many people heading to the barrier beaches today to beat the heat, including alameda during what may be one of the hottest labor day weekends on record. however safety experts are warning one of the bay area's most popular go to spots during hot weather is also one

going to be a few days with the hottest weather still coming. you know, we have seen temperatures in the upper nineties too low one hundreds for the last few days on and off over inland cities. today we're going to tack on a few degrees and then monday end are sunday monday into tuesday. we're looking at temperatures reaching near 110 degrees, some of the hottest temperatures so far this year. of course, with that comes elevated fire, danger and health concerns. better details on the current conditions and what you can expect for your neighborhood coming up in just a little bit. okay sounds good. rosemary oroczo. few days we are going to experience the hottest temperatures we've had all year. let's go to ktvu as tom baker, who joins us now live from crown beach. and says he has been talking with someone who was expecting big crowds at those beaches today gets a little hotter every time we check in with you, dom. you know it is. it's really hot now you know, from the sun coming down, but actually, there's still this light cool breeze behind me, and
9:02 am
it's a wonderful, wonderful temperature, and that's going to get hotter later. but the reality is crown beach is wonderful for number of reasons. first of all, it sits right along the bay. but on top of that, you don't have to go across the bay bridge to get to the ocean, which is a really nice thing. that's why a lot of people come here. we did speak to one guy who talks about why he goes out early in the morning. he lives right around here. but what he really thinks is going on, and here's what he had to say. it gets pretty crowded in the afternoon, so we don't get out in the morning or later in the day. it's not too bad, but the middle of the day. it gets pretty crowded here. yeah, such heat events are coming more frequently with hotter hearts and drier dries. i think the patterns have changed . a lot of goes through spells like that. you know you're getting it all over the country. it's not just an isolated area, and it's beginning to look a lot more like a new and ever changing normal. i think the climate is definitely changing. there's reason to be concerned, but you know hopefully that some

point we'll be able to turn this around a little bit. this situation is really one above climate change where we are seeing things happening that haven't happened before and really started getting serious in 2017 when we started having all the firestorms, and obviously we're trying to do something about it, but that is a very tall order. when we come back in about a half hour, we're gonna talk to another guy here who talks also about what people can expect this afternoon. if they come over here, or it's one of the many, many places along the bay or the ocean. where lots of people are going reporting live. tom vacar ktvu fox two. alright tom, it already looks hot. their doctors and hospitals are warning barry residents to take precautions against this stifling heat children. the elderly and people with chronic health conditions are particularly vulnerable and here to talk about the health issues. we should all be concerned about. these guys are permanent cardiologists dr. read it. nate how are you? great happy sunday . happy sunday to you as well. are you busy right now,

look out for include things such as headache, nausea, excessive perspiration or sweating, which is your body's natural response to try to court self down things like passing out or feeling dizzy. those are signs of extreme heat exhaustion or stroking for what you should seek immediate medical care. and i was just up in tahoe. i'm pretty much an spf 80 kind of guys, but i got a little sunburnt and what do people do for that? i imagine that's an issue as well. sunburns are really a very serious thing. so we always recommend spf greater than 30 try to apply at least every two hours of possible. when your skin does get burned. it impairs your body's ability to actually regulate its own temperature. so staying out of sun sun blocking well, critically important. let's talk about hydration because drinking water is good for your body. how much should we be drinking on a super hot day like this? excellent question. so first of all, if you don't have any chronic medical conditions that impair your ability to hydrate.
9:06 am
well, that's the first thing that you should check in on, for example, some patients with congestive heart failure. we actually have to be a little bit more cautious about fluid. for the vast majority of the population. you don't want to wait until you get thirsty. that's too late. you want to hydrate continuously, if possible. try to get at least eight cups of water in per day. and if you're exercising more rigorously during the outdoor time, actually try to stay away from the caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. continuous hydration is actually critically important. cold beer after mowing the lawn goes down pretty good, but it's actually does the reverse, right? does it actually can dehydrate you and i'll give you an example of how you can do things well. now i'm the mom of three boys under the age of seven. so i find myself outside very often. we were actually at a birthday party yesterday for one of my little boy's best friends and the mama did everything just so well. the party was timed mid morning, so we were there before it got too hot and the sun was bearing down lots of shade structures, both with tents. there was spf

before artemus is ready to launch and the head of nasa's is knowing when not to launch because of technical issues is something all astronauts know is possible, including on his 1986 flight aboard the space shuttle columbia. we scrubbed four times. we were delayed over the better part of a month, but the fifth try was an almost flawless 60 missions, so um is part of our space program. be ready for the scrubs. be ready for the scrubs. nelson says. nasa has a history of getting part way through a countdown, finding a problem fixing it and then going on to have a successful mission . and he says that's what he and thousands of other nasa workers expect to happen with artemis as well. okay, let's talk more about this. joining us to talk about that engine leak that led to scientists calling for that scrub yesterday astronomer gerald muskegon with the shabbos space and science center. good morning to you. good morning. how are you? i'm good. i'm good . so let's talk about this. i
9:46 am
mean, this is science. it is not always perfect in the first run out or even the second run out, and we're talking about an eight inch quick disconnect. we're all trying to, you know, write science smart. you know, as we're watching all these problems develop. tell me what? what we should know about this disconnect. well ok, so a quick disconnect. it's actually something that's pretty common. you know, i just brought one along here just as a demonstration. this is one for garden hoses. so you have a nozzle here. and it's connected to the hose. and all i gotta do is pull this and it comes apart again and back together, so this is a very common type of quick disconnected you might find in your household. ah. but you know, we also know we have leaky hoses at home right like it's. it's just don't have hydrogen fuel coming out of them so there are gaskets around it seals to prevent leaks. but as we all know, they are very commonly leak. um the quick disconnect on the course stage of the space
9:47 am
launch system rocket is eight inches in diameter, and it's much more complex than this. it's remote controlled and it uh it can leak because it's passing hydrogen liquid hydrogen into the tank in the core stage. and liquid hydrogen. uh it's very prone to leakage because they hydrogen molecules very small and so that they had a leak, and apparently it's because the seals are not sealing properly, so they're going to have to disassemble it and kind of repair it and put it back together again, so that's why they had to fill a dollar. that changes. sorry sorry. i'll just say that does change the new date and it changes the timing of everything. you know. we should emphasize that artemus one. harvest two is hopefully going to have humans on board, i think is the plan. and so we got
9:48 am
to get this stuff correct and make sure that it all goes smoothly before we move on to the next level, even if it's hard for people to be patient. i want to talk about this october timing, though, because it's whether, but it's also a lot of other things. it's the calendar over there that that can be very, very busy at the space center. that's correct there for this mission because of how they want to fly around the moon. uh and the timing of it, it's real important that you launch only at certain times. the moon has to be in the right position. you don't want to fly it out there and discovered the moon's not there anymore. so you have to launch so that the timing is right so that you can arrive at the moon at the right time. there are several constraints that they have, uh, the moon has to be below the equator at the time they arrived, uh when they're in orbit around the moon. the moon will block the sun part of the time when they're in orbit, and they have limits on how long the moment can block the sun. so there's
9:49 am
just a lot of these different factors that go into determining when the launch window it, so there's a launch window coming up here later in september, but there are some other issues with that. there is another man's launch. that is also scheduled later in september. and there's a you know, concerned about trying to thanks to both of those at the same time. there's also the fact that it's going to take some time to repair this quick disconnect so most likely the next launch window is going to be starting on october 17th and that will ask for several days and one issue that that one issue with that launch window is said a good portion of it with only allow them to do a 26 day. uh mission instead of a 42 day mission, you know, the idea here for the most recent launch was to do a 42 day mission. but if they launch, um in the october 17th ah watch window, which is
9:50 am
actually several days long and most of those days if they launched it would be just a 26 day mission and again. this is because of things like lighting on the want to do it in daylight and also the c ocean off the coast of california, they want to do that in daylight, preferably at least three hours before sunset so well, so much to talk about. timing factor. a lot of the times herald mckagan. unfortunately, we have to leave it. there were out of time. but i will say bowen, space science, space and science that are really a great place to kind of continue this conversation. i know you have a viper exhibit there, and really, it has sparked renewed interest and excitement into this journey into space. as we look to a decades after we've last been there, so i appreciate all your information and really, i encourage people to head to ship . boda continue. please please come up and visit us at tchibo. we've got a lot to show you.
