morning and welcome back gasia mikaelian. good morning. i'm dave clark hit his monday. it's september 5th it is labor day. happy labor day to you. let's go right to rosemary oroczo. she's right over there, warning us how warm it's going to get good morning to both of you. record breaking heat temperatures are expected to go well above 100 degrees hotter than yesterday, and some of our hotter spots going above. of 1 10. the excessive heat warning for inland cities will now last through thursday. the heat advisory for our basic communities now lasting through thursday, so this hot spell is going to continue. throughput most of the business week and, of course, the big concern. health concerns with the possibility of heat exhaustion as well as even heat stroke and the elevated fire danger as relative humidity is below 10% this morning and some of our hills better details on the current conditions and what you can expect for your neighborhood coming up in just a little bit.

breathing, try to stay indoors. close your doors and windows. later today, bay area counties and cities will open cooling centers for people who need to escape the heat. many of them will be a libraries or community centers. all 21 of contra costa county's library branch it will be open today as temperatures of 110 degrees are possible inland. up in the north bay center, rosa will open a cooling center at the finley community center in solano county cooling centers will be open at fairfield, rio vista and dixon's libraries in the south bay. you can ride for free to get to a cooling center. santa clara county is also using its libraries as cooling centers, free water and snacks are available. vts website has more information for you, including routes, hours and locations. and doctors say it is key that we all watch out for signs of heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses amid this extreme heat some of the science and symptoms that you should look out for include things such as headache, nausea , excessive perspiration or sweating, which is your body's natural response to try to court

to show you this morning of a wild sideshow. now this happened just after midnight on the edge of the mission district at dubose and valencia. you can see all the cars and the crowds shoving down that intersection that lasted about 15 minutes. the police have actually broke up the crowds, but people nearby said they didn't see anyone being detained. we tried to contact san francisco police. we want to find out if any arrests were made. and another pedestrian and san jose has been hit and killed. police say a man was crossing senate to reasonable of ard near kyowa circle saturday night when he was hit by two different drivers . it's happened about 8 45 saturday night, investigators say. the driver, the first suv did stay to cooperate with the investigation, but the second driver in a truck drove away from the scene was san jose's

25th pedestrian deaths so far this year. and that's just one of two fatal crashes in san jose this weekend. early saturday morning. a man was killed on #### you're avenue after being hit by a suspected drunk driver . the victim got out of his car because he hit three parked cars in a separate crash. then he was hit by the other cards. the driver suspected of hitting them has been booked for d u i and vehicular manslaughter. san jose is now on track to have more traffic related deaths last year so far. this year. there have been 45 deadly crashes in all of last year. 60 people died in crashes. that's the number reached only twice in the past 10 years. the city's vision zero department, which is dedicated to improving traffic safety, says there is something unusual about what's happening this year with deadly crashes in san jose. we received five of them so far on late road, so that is really unusual to see so many fatalities on one road. um and

dangerous fires during this extreme heat, the state office of emergency services sent out a list of areas where crews should be prepositioned and stationed closer to likely fire scenes. there are spots in nearly every bay area county on that list. local crews are also working overtime. so there are enough people in case multiple fires break out. some local government agencies have closed parks in case people get overheated and need emergency crews to get them out, officials say, reducing the number of people and potential hotspots also decreases the fire danger. if we can proactively close some of these public spaces, much like we would in a red flag fire environment. we can eliminate that risk for both the public and firefighters alike. so far there have been fewer and smaller fires in california compared to this time last year. right now, more than 202,000 acres has burned in california. it's about 10% of the total from the first week of september last year. firefighters say that people are more aware and taking more precautions to prevent fires this year time now, 7 16 health experts warn us stay indoors

700 buildings are threatened. very firefighters are already in position, ready to fight. we could be extremely dangerous fires during this extreme heat, the state office of emergency services sent a list of areas where crews should be stationed closely to likely fire scenes. there are spots in nearly every bay area county on that list. local crews are also working overtime, so there are enough people in case multiple fires break out. some local government agencies have closed parks in case people get overheated and need emergency crews to get them out, officials say reducing the number of people and potential hotspots also decreases the fire risk. if we can proactively close some of these public spaces, much like we would in a red flag fire environment. we can eliminate that risk for both the public and firefighters alike. so far there have been fewer and smaller fires in california this year compared to last right now, more than 202,000 acres have burned in our state. it's about 10% of the total from the first week of september last year, firefighters say that people are more aware and taking more precautions to help prevent fires this year. health experts
