yesterday evening, we saw some lights rather some signs on the door that indicated the shop was closed last night. it wasn't gonna open until eight o'clock this morning. we're starting to hear from some folks that the doors might already be open. now we're hearing that just right before we got on the air this morning, you would normally be open by now only opens at five this morning. but signs on the door said eight o'clock would be the opening time for this morning places in the east bay. they are consistently seeing temperatures soar past the 100 degrees. statewide flex alerts continue to ask people to conserve energy in the late afternoon, but when the heat carries into the night that becomes a problem for power companies like pg and e, because they say transformers overheat overnight. those are just homeowners affected. we saw outages, a gas station stoplights nearby as well. we spoke to a pair of marine researchers preparing for the day on the water in burlingame later today who showed up to this closed safeway last night and this morning. well we came here for food and you can't get in now. we need some meat. basically yeah. looking for lunches and stuff on the boat,

so yeah, we've come a couple of times will have to go somewhere else and check it out. statewide the department of water resources activated its temporary emergency power generator for the first time yesterday, they gave the state the ability to provide an additional 120 megawatts of power. that's enough power to energize about 120,000 homes licenses. today's demand for power at the moment is considered normal, however, looking at the numbers the demand for power right now is already higher than this time compared yesterday. reporting live this morning. i'm jamess, s . thank you. some grid, saying there are ways to prevent energy shortfalls. utility grid operators all over the nation are dealing with a hot summer heatwave, but we're not blacking out anybody in arizona or nevada or even in la dwp. why because those power grid operators make sure that

schedule because of this heat, and there's other schools in the district will implement a heat plan, which means limited recess activities or recess indoors. ppe classes may be held indoors or rescheduled, and athletic activities and practices may be canceled. district wide now yesterday, temperatures in nevada peaked at around 108 degrees just before four o'clock in the afternoon. taking a look at the forecast for today. it's supposed to get up to 107 here in nevada today. we don't know why these three schools in particular are the only ones in the district that are going to be on this minimum day schedule for the rest of the week. we assume it has something to do with a lack of air conditioning, but we have reached out to a nevada unified school district officials to learn more about the situation here at lu sutton and nevada high school, but again, these three schools will be on a minimum day schedule for the rest of this week, and it's because of the excessive heat here live in novato. ali rasmus ktvu. fox two news. thank you. the demand for power in california is expected to hit a

20 year high today. pg and e is teaming up with the state power grid to urge people across the state to continue conserving electricity during this record breaking heat. they're asking everyone to dramatically ramp up their conservation efforts today or face the threat of rolling blackouts. we need 2 to 3 times as much conservation as we've been experiencing to keep the power on with these historically high temperatures in demand. huge demand for electricity is putting a severe strain on pg equipment, causing unplanned power outages. power company says the lights were out for about 40,000 homes and businesses in the bay area yesterday, mostly in the south. and east bay. ktvu james torres is going to bring us live, updates on statewide power concerns from what area that lost power in martinez in the next hour. alright guys your time, 7 34 by late this morning , we expect temperatures atop more than 100 degrees again in the inland parts of the east bay yesterday. was 116 degrees in livermore. i'm not kidding.

families who were looking for ways of stay cool, but they were also aware of the flex alert, and we talked to people who headed for lizzie's fountain in downtown livermore to stay cool . it's ridiculous. it's ridiculous when we were going to go out today was like i don't want to leave a little kiddie pool that we've put them in earlier and then we just decided to come downtown and let them run amok in the fountain officials open calling centers at libraries and community centers all around the east bay , while many parks and open spaces were closed because of fire danger, heather farm and walnut creek was open and it was very popular. one family told us they plan for the weather. they set up a canopy. they rented a snow cone machine. and gave the kids water toys. plenty of water. plenty ice. i haven't tried waking up fan over there. ah where the bag ice in front of it turned on high to try to get some of that cool is off of that

bag. ice heat. it is bothersome, but pakistan just to be around my family. a lot of people were happy. it was a holiday so they can get out of the house to try to cool off. that may be harder today. a lot of people are heading back to work or school today, the state of california's found a low tech way to battle to persistent problems in our state wildfires and drought. several agencies plan to put beavers to work at waterways across the state for the next two years. experts point out the rodents are one of mother nature's most effective engineers, beavers can divert rivers and streams with their dams made of sticks and mud. that can help keep areas moist during this third year of california drought, i hope that can help slow the spread of huge wildfires now burning more frequently across our state. many people pointed to climate change is the reason behind the algae blooms. we've seen pop up in the bay and at oakland's lake merritt, but experts tell the san francisco chronicle that's just part of the problem. they say the algae blooms need food to grow. and in this case that food comes from nutrients and

treated wastewater from sewage plants around the area and most plants. the water is treated, but nitrogen and phosphorus in human waste is not removed that gets dumped into the bay where algae feeds on it. there are discussions about requiring treatment plans to reduce the nutrients in the treated water. 7 37, a woman in oakland, telling her story of being attacked in our own neighborhood . now her name is mary. she didn't want to show her face worrying about her safety. she is 74 years old. says she was attacked and robbed just steps away from her home in rock ridge on saturday afternoon around 1 30. she said she was walking home after shopping. when someone came up behind her. threw me into the bushes essential over here. yeah which kind of broke my fall and i started screaming. i started fighting. i tried to scratch him. i tried to punch him. now a second man ran up and grabbed her purse before both of the attackers ran away. one of the
