out presentation. from ktvu. fox two news. this is mornings on two welcome the mornings onto himself. castaneda good morning. i'm pam cook. thank you for waking up with us. wednesday morning, september 7th. i'm not going to say it's cool, but it does feel a little bit cooler morning. we'll take anything right. roberta gonzalez has a forecast pam and high selling good morning to all of you, pam . you're saying many of us are waking up? i don't think many people slept right right? not comfortably, at least because the temperatures are quite balmy . in fact, at this early hour, take a look. these are so far are over. tonight lows. fairfield 80 degrees 79 in walnut creek, 67 in hayward 70 redwood city low sixties at the seashore. pam was saying it does feel cooler. and yes, we're going to drop 13 to 15 degrees throughout many of our inland locations, but we're still well above normal, one of five in

livermore 106 in antioch 100, santa rosa, but that's down from 1 13 experience yesterday. 90 and cemetery. take a look at san francisco. it was 98 degrees there yesterday. today high seventies your full forecast coming up, but right now, let's send it back over to sell and to pay him. all right. thank you, roberta. we begin with the check on power outages here in the bay area. want to take a look at the pg and e outage map now thousands of homes and businesses do not have electric city this morning. the red triangle. you see, signifies outages affecting at least 5000 customers that includes customers in san jose around montgomery hill park, the green dots and the yellow diamonds can mean a few dozen to several households. the website power outage dot com, has earlier reported that santa clara county had as many as 27,000 homes and businesses without power. that number is down to about 6000. now pg and e did not have to use

its rotation. eating outage program to conserve energy. we did get that warning, though the utility put more than a half a million customers on alert for that possibility on its website . there is a tool that lets you check your address to see if you could be in the next rotation to be powered down. pci need breaks it service territory in these blocks. different cities not based on circuits not based on zip codes, but all based on kilowatt, so we know exactly how many kilowatts or how many megawatts represented by these blocks, so we easily be able to calculate, um, where we would do those rotating outages. pg ni says half of its customers are in block 50 that indicates that they share a circuit with an emergency facility, including hospitals, police and fire stations. and they are rarely powered down. people we talked with, say they knew about the rotating blackouts, and they were prepared for the worst, but hoping for the best just keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to us. i do have

a generator. ready to go just in case just to keep my refrigerator is going pg and e. says it's weather forecast shows today should be a little cooler as we've talked about that could mean energy use drops a little bit today as well officials saying customers reacted quickly yesterday when we received those alerts to conserve energy that helped prevent the rolling blackouts. happening today in east pay school district is moving all of its campuses to have two schedules because of the heat. dublin unified says students will only be on campus for minimum day today through friday, administrators had closed three schools in the past week due to power outages. the district says it wants to give parents time to make arrangements for the rest of the week. livermore schools will keep students indoors for the rest of the rig rather than let them go outside for recess, students will eat lunch in the cafeteria, then go back to classroom for recess. the temperatures at one elementary school hit 113 degrees, the

principal says. teachers and students are coping the best they can. the kids are good, though they're they're going with the flow and going inside where it's air conditioned. so fortunately, all of our classrooms or air conditioning, nothing's breaking down. deliver more civic center library is one of the city's cooling centers. we saw plenty of people spending time there, cooling off and catching up on a good book or using the internet. i'm from red bluff, california, which is like a by chico and it gets like 116 degrees, and so i never expected it to be like this hot. livermore has four cooling centers, including libraries and community centers. they will be open all week, providing a cool space for anyone in need. the state department of public health is advising schools to cancel any outdoor activities as well as indoor events that would be held at sites that don't have air conditioning when the risk level is at three or four. now the national weather service determines the levels and most of the bay area has been in that

range this week. the state also advises closely monitoring students for any heat related illnesses and encouraging everyone drink plenty of water. now the top of the salesforce tower in san francisco, urging everyone to do their part to save power. during these hot days. take a look. the lights at the top read, flex alert, power down the messages, calling everyone to conserve electricity to avoid those rolling blackouts . another flex alert is in effect for today at 405. we are tracking a new wildfire. that's prompting evacuations in the tahoe area. cal fire released this video of the so called mosquito fire because it's located along mosquito ridge road in plaster county, mandatory evacuations or evacuation warnings are issued for nearby wrenching areas. cal fire announced the mosquito fire grew from about 50 acres last night to 478 acres this morning in plaster county and another 100 acres in el dorado county. it's also burning in very steep, inaccessible terrain. the fire

is about 30 miles southwest of the city of auburn. fire crews are spending the early morning hours looking for flare ups of a fire that broke out near the town of rodeo. it started near highway four in berryhill road about 10 clock yesterday afternoon, the highway was shut down for about an hour, while contra costa county ground crews and cal fire aircraft battled the flames. it started very close to where another fire burned on monday and threatened homes and businesses. we're pretty sure that we had a fire break from yesterday's fire that there was going to take a lot for the flames to come here unless it went up the hill and the wind changed and the wind changed then. would be in trouble again and start evacuating horses again. anything we can help to really do. if they need help help them. the fire on monday burn 120 acres, the latest one has burned about 50 acres so far and is 85% contained. investigators still don't know what caused either of

those fires. cruz fighting the far fairview fire in southern california are dealing with high temperatures and uncharacteristic winds. two people died while trying to escape the flames shortly after the fire broke out monday near the town of hemet, the fire has burned more than seven square miles and at least seven structures, including seven homes. it is just 5% contained. alright 407 time to check out back in with roberta gonzalez talking about our forecast a little bit cooler, and my big question is. when is that fog rolling in this morning? we saw some clouds, actually not fog, but mid level clouds. i don't know if you saw it as you're peering up towards the moon, but the closer you got towards the coast and the peninsula. that's where you see that mid level cloudiness and because of that, we actually have to keep a minimal risk of a thunderstorm in the north bay. this morning. otherwise here's a peek at the temperatures. it's 62 in santa rosa. notice that big drop off

in that temperature from 1 15 yesterday to 60 to talk about that more momentarily, but it is still 81 degrees in san francisco. well, let's take a look at some notable numbers. i got to challenge that never lets go with 64 there at this early hour. otherwise it's 77 in brentwood, also in fairfield and high sixties and napa the difference between yesterday and today. it is seven degrees cooler in hayward at this hour, but it's five degrees warmer and half moon bay where they have their own microclimates. we've seen a high temperature and half moon bed 85 degrees, but only three quarters of a mile away along the seashore. we've seen a temperature of only 60. for boy . that's a huge difference. so we had some all time record high temperatures for the second day in a row. it was 1 16 and livermore 1 13 was the old record in santa rosa. now yesterday they had 1, 15 and 108 and san jose because of these very hot temperatures, the national weather service is still pushing that excessive

heat warning until thursday night, however, because of a shift in the wind, we do have the heat advisory allowed to expire tonight in san francisco , and along the seashore, we will keep those health concerns in the forecast. now it's all about the wind. and this morning we saw the wind pick up and santa rosa out of the north at five. that dropped the temperature very rapidly between two am and three am otherwise. sfo to onshore push san jose's experiencing a wind out of the north at five. so that's going to lower the temperatures. remember it was 1 15 in santa rosa. yesterday today, 100 so you do feel the difference today, but it's still well above the average high in the eighties , down from 1 16 to 1 oh, five and livermore, so this is a huge tumble, but pam and sal, we're going to take these temperatures and bump them back up again. on thursday. i know you hate to hear that, but some big changes for the weekend. also, that's still coming up with our full forecast. just a couple of minutes. alright thank you,

roberta. today apple is set to unveil a new line of iphones watches and airpods. this year's product event is called far out. it will be held at the steve jobs theater at apple's cupertino headquarters, the company's first indoor events since the pandemic. apple's iphone 14 is expected to have an updated camera storage and design as well as satellite network connectivity. there are also reports that the watch series eight will feature a bigger display and body temperature sensor. tim cook not too long ago in the last couple of years, said the biggest contribution apple will make to society is around health and the apple watch is where that mostly happens. we expect it may have body temperature sensing that this wouldn't tell you exactly what your temperature is. that's not really doable yet on a watch, but it would tell you if you have a general trend towards getting warmer, which would tell you if you've got a fever. it can also be used for women who are tracking pregnancy. very interesting. the newest airpods , the pro two will reportedly have enhanced sound quality and more sensors, along with water

johnny cepeda go go ordered him held without bail. rosas is accused of killing 27 year old susanna elena hernandez. the chilling crime last thursday was caught on surveillance video. jose police detectives say rosas is the man seen stopping in his car in the south central san jose parking lot. he then gets out and allegedly shoots hernandez and a man she was with , then runs off as soon as we identified who he was, and we had a good idea of what type of vehicle he was in, we sent a statewide be on the lookout for the suspect in this vehicle. hours later, chp officers and u. s border patrol agents arrested rosas 100 yards from the mexican border. friends claim rosa's committed multiple acts of abuse against hernandez. one day i told her that if she was a victim of domestic violence to seek help, because people who are threatened or abused by their partners or get hit can end up dead. investigators say hernandez did file at least one

restraining order against her ex for domestic abuse of the day. it's just a piece of paper. somebody violates, uh, you know, garden variety restraining order. it's a mess. misdemeanor detectives say rosas did violate that order on multiple occasions. eventually escalating abuse to murder. we're going to do everything we can to find you and bring you back to face charges are victims. families deserve that? hernandez is survived by her two children who are in mexico. friends say she was here working to send money back home for her kids. outside the hall of justice here in san jose, jesse gary ktvu, fox two news. san francisco police and the fbi are asking for help in finding a toddler who disappeared more than six years ago. the family of ariana fits, reported her missing in april. 2016 she was 2.5 years old at the time. she was last seen in oakland in january or february of that year, several days after the girl was reported missing. her mother, nicole fits, was found dead and buried in a san francisco park. investigators

at the same mateo bridge traffic is moving along. very nicely. 4, 31 and bart surface is in the east bay back up and running this morning after that extreme heat caused a problem on the tracks yesterday afternoon. in all directions. service was stopped for hours after a small section of track separated. bart spokesperson says they believe it was because of the heat. the problem was in the same area as a partial train derailment back in june, which was also caused by heat. passengers had to scramble to get off the trains and on the busses during the afternoon commute. that it happened before. instead of getting mad. i kind of just so okay, well, here it is again. i want to say that this is the worst heat wave i've ever experienced here. i can't remember ever going outside for 20 seconds and just dripping sweat. i'm with you feels like an oven out there. bard says it also had to slow down trains because of the weather and did

more track inspections as a precaution. a spokesperson says they were taking advantage of cooling overnight temperatures to fix any track problems, but the trains will have to slow down again today if it gets past 100 degrees. the valley transportation authority is also experiencing problems because of the heat managers pulled 40 busses from their roots because of mechanical issues related to the hot weather. that's a 10% part of the wta's normal weekday service. the transit says issues included air conditioning malfunctions and engine's overheating. the heat can cause damage to places we don't even think of. pg needs. number one maintenance concern on extremely hot days is transformers. those are the boxy looking structures attached to policy. see him there two towers that connect to overhead wires. they reduce the high power from coming underground power lines is something that can be safely used in homes and businesses. it's really transformers. transformers get overheated. we saw a couple of years ago here

in san jose in august of 2020. there was a major heat event again and we had many transformers that went out that we had to replace. the heat can also damage asphalt, including runways at the airport, which didn't have any problems yesterday. but how we want to one in san benito county near hollister was damaged in the heat of section of the southbound road just before highway 1 56 got so hot that the asphalt in the middle of the right lines lifted enough to be a traffic hazard. the stretch of highway was closed more than six hours while repairs were made. there is growing concern for people living on the streets and in homeless camps during this hot weather. ktvu brooks jarocz reports on the organized and individual efforts to protect some of the people who are most at risk. and this is a life and death situation. loading up lifesaving supplies by the bottle and by the bag with scorching heat advocacy group love and justice in the streets,

is on a mission to help the homeless. we are going to do everything we can to fill up just this one minivan multiple times throughout the day. we're taking hundreds of bottles of water out to people and their animals across oakland, and we're going to do our little part, but we know we can't nearly meet the need drop in the bucket because of these crowded and plentiful east bay encampments. hot doesn't even describe it miserable is hard to deal with, especially when you don't have any shade structures over here. john john osco says he and his neighbors on wood street are pooling their resources to keep cool. just another cooler of more water and melted ice, but it's really cold. many times they depend on donations to survive. a nonprofit just gave these unhappy residents this solar refrigerator that they hope to have up and running soon. still it's a struggle just to be outside. especially in the sun really hard. i'm thankful for the breeze, but you know, i have to find a place to stay under

shade pretty much all the time inside my tender gets way too hot during the day, which is why the city of oakland says it's community responders in mts are out here to keep people hydrated and checking on the most vulnerable. those who may be older, have illnesses or other medical problems. we also use this opportunity to remind people in this community that we can attempt to get you into a shelter. we also have a list of what we're calling holding centers where people from the street and go into get out of the sun kick back in the chair. small solutions to take care of a big community, starting with acts of kindness, casting out water. that's a wonderful thing . we just want to help people the best we can, and you know it can be rough to see this and go through it. but at the same time, it's a strong reminder for me personally, that this could be anybody. advocates say it's the largest encampments that get the most attention, so they're urging everyone to go out by water or by ice and give it to those unused residents in your

neighborhood. in oakland, brooks jarocz ktvu, fox two news . all right. thank you. brooks this morning, a restaurant in albany is sharing video of five women who ate at the restaurant and then left without paying a surveillance video from 9 38, crawfish vietnamese cajun fusion restaurant. they're not really even running from the place. it shows the five women enter the restaurant. sit down, have a meal, then they leave without paying their more than $200 bill . the owner calls the dine and dash overwhelming and heartbreaking, saying small businesses are trying their best to recover and events like this make it nearly impossible. we have an update this morning to a shooting in oakland that has turned deadly. the alameda county sheriff's coroner has identified the man who died as 24 year old german wisdom from oakland. a source tells us here at ktvu. the shooting started as a road rage incident at 21st and foothill in east oakland. someone opened fire on wisdoms car. he later died at the

hospital. no word on any arrests. the bay area air quality district is finding a south bay landfill hundreds of thousands of dollars for violations. the newbie island landfill in milpitas will have to pay $210,000 to the air district for violations that occurred between 2014 and 2020. issues included gas surface leaks, misuse of equipment and multiple odor complaints. the bay area air quality management district says the violations have since been corrected. san francisco is considering a new approach to tackle the deadly drug crisis, a group of supervisors revealed the so called san francisco recovers plan includes directing police to prioritize arresting drug dealers and confiscating drugs from users in areas where people are seeking help with addiction . it also includes treatment on demand and supervised drug consumption sites, which governor newsom recently vetoed. the supervisor proposed using millions of dollars from opioid lawsuits, settlements to pay for the plan. verizon is taking some

allegations from elizabeth holmes defense team claimed former lab director adam rosen dorf showed up at her home on august 8th in new court filings . the attorneys claim rosen dorf spoke with homes boyfriend billy evans. they claim rosen dorf said he quote felt that he had done something wrong and thought a conversation with homes would be healing. he wants to switch his own conscience and he'll as he said, by talking to her. i'm not sure what good that is going to do, testified over several days at trial, helping prosecutors convict that their nose founder on four counts of fraud and conspiracy. he was also a confidential source for the wall street journal, which exposed the theranos deceit in 2015. defense attorneys now wants a new trial in the case or at minimum, a hearing where rosen dorff would have to answer questions under oath. ktvu legal analyst michael cardoza says.

happening today, a man accused of killing his ex girlfriend and trying to escape to mexico will be charged with murder. jose rosas was briefly in san jose court yesterday and the judge ordered him held without bail. he was arrested for the death of 27 year old susanna hernandez. last thursday. surveillance video shows a man who appears to be roses, stopping his car getting out and shooting hernandez and a man she was with and then running off. as soon as we identified who he was, and we had a good idea of what type of vehicle he was in, we sent a statewide be on the lookout for the suspect in this vehicle. hours later, the chp and border patrol officers arrested rose as he was 100 yards from the mexican border frenzy. rosa's abused hernandez. but detectives

hours after a small section of track separated apart, spokesperson says they believe it was because of the heat. the problem was in the same area as a partial train derailment back in june, which was also caused by the heat. passengers had to scramble to get off the trains and onto the busses during the afternoon commute. that it happened before. instead of getting mad. i kind of just so okay, well, here it is again. i want to say that this is the worst heat wave i've ever experienced here. i can't remember ever going outside for 20 seconds and just dripping sweat. bart says it also had to slow down the trains because of the hot weather, and they did more track inspections as a precaution. spokesperson tells us they spent all night working to repair the tracks, but they will need to single track the trains from pleasant hill to concord station this morning. the valley transportation authority is also experiencing

concern on extremely hot days are those those are transformers . those are those boxy looking structures. attached to poles or towers that connect to overhead cables. they reduced the high power that's coming from underground power lines to something that can be safely used at homes and businesses. it's really transformers. transformers get overheated. we saw a couple of years ago here in san jose in august of 2020. there was a major heat event again and we had many transformers that went out that we had to replace. he can also damage asphalt, including runways at airports, which didn't have any problems. fortunately yesterday here in the bay area, but highway 101 in san benito county near hollister, you can see that was damaged in the heat of section of the southbound road just before the highway 1 56 exit. i got so hot that the asphalt the middle and right lanes lifted enough to be a traffic hazard.

store once for thousands across the bay area. there is another call for a flex alert this afternoon that will help things out while the state grid did not have to call for rolling blackouts statewide to avoid overloading the grid, many people did lose power because of strain on the local power infrastructure. now in alameda in palo alto, the local power companies decided to do smaller , rotating outages because of high demand. some pg any customers i also have been without power since yesterday afternoon. it has improved, though here's the outage map this morning. there's a lot of smaller outages. things are looking better, though, than they were last night pg me again did not have to use that rotating outage program to conserve energy, but the utility put more than a half a million customers on alert for that possibility. on its website. there is a tool that lets you check your address to see if you could be next in the rotation to be powered down. any brexit service territory in these blocks. different cities not

worked overnight during the cooler temperatures to start that repairing the alignment issue and they're still working on it this morning. the extreme heat can cause bart rails to warp and even separate and over here equipment. all of that happened yesterday between the bark stations at pleasant hill and conquer. i want to say that this is the worst heat wave i've ever experienced here. i can't remember ever going outside for 20 seconds and just dripping sweat. park spokesperson tells me service will start this morning service has started this morning but reduced to one track between pleasant hill and conquered track crews are still in the area and needs space to complete the repairs, which they hope to finish later in the morning. writers should anticipate delays of about 15 minutes in this area as bart slows trains down to sleep safely perceived through the work area. there was a partial

centers, including their libraries and community centers . they will be open all week long, by the way, providing a cool space for anyone that needs a bit of a break. very nice. the state department of public health is also advising schools to cancel outdoor activities as well as indoor events that would be held at sites that don't have air conditioning when that heat risk level is at three or four. now, the national weather service determines the levels and most of the bay area has been in that range. this week. the state also advisors, closely monitoring students for any heat related illnesses and encouraging everyone to drink plenty of water. well the top of the salesforce tower in san francisco is urging everyone to do their part to save power. during these hot days. take a look at the lights at the top. red flex alert, power down the messages calling on all of us to conserve electricity to avoid those rolling blackouts. another flex alert is in effect for today. new evacuation orders this morning in the sierra foothills due to a fast moving wildfire that grew in size overnight. the mosquito fire is

burning near the community of forrest hill, just east of interstate 80 in plaster county. you can see from these this video and these photos how intense the flames are burning. it increased to nearly 600 acres overnight after starting yesterday afternoon. the fire is in a very hard to reach area. temperatures overnight did not cool off. it was still about 84 degrees at one o'clock this morning in that area, and there are mandatory evacuations. for nearby communities. fire cruiser , spending the early morning hours looking for flare ups of a fire that broke out near the town of rodeo and started near highway for barry hill road that happened around one o'clock yesterday afternoon highway had to be shut down for about an hour, while contra costa county ground crews and cal fire aircraft battle the flames started very close to where another fire burned on monday and threatened homes. and businesses. we're pretty sure that we had a fire break from yesterday's fire. that it was

the hill to concord and then highway 24. it's also busy with some congestion on 6 80 in between those two and the bay bridge has a bigger delay. when we come back, we'll talk more about the east bay and some of those south bay commutes at 6 31 . let's get right back to the headlines and i will take it south. thank you. homeless advocates say they're doing what they can to try to help people that are out. living on the streets during this heatwave cruise in oakland were loading up water ice, some other life saving supplies to give out to people who are experiencing homelessness. one group says they filled up their van multiple times yesterday and delivered hundreds of bottles of water. people living in a campus say it's greatly needed because of the unbearable heat. is there a ball? it's hard to deal with, especially when you don't have any shade structures over here. we just want to help people the best we can, and you know it can be rough to see this and go through it. but at the same time, it's a strong reminder for me personally, that this could be anybody. several homeless

advocates say there's simply not enough shelter space for everyone in need. so they are encouraging everyone to consider by water and ice and dropping it off to a new house. people in your neighborhood can cause damage to places we might not even think of pg needs number one maintenance concern on extremely hot days is their transformers. those are the boxy looking structures attached to poles or towers that connect to overhead cables. they reduce the high power coming from underground power lines to something that can be safely used in homes and businesses. it's really transformers. transformers get overheated. we saw a couple of years ago here in san jose in august of 2020. there was a major heat event again and we had many transformers that went out that we had to replace. now that he can also damage asphalt, including runways at the airport . they didn't have any problems yesterday, but we're keeping an eye on that highway 101 in san benito county near hollister was

damaged in the heat. take a look at this section of the southbound road just before the highway 1 56 x. it was so hot, the asphalt in the middle and right lanes lifted enough to be a traffic hazard. that stretch of highway was shut down more than six hours while the repairs were made. time that was 6 34 happening today, a man accused of killing his ex girlfriend and trying to escape to mexico will be charged with murder. jose rosas was briefly in a san jose courtroom yesterday and the judge ordered him without bail. he was arrested for the death of 27 year old susana hernandez. last thursday. surveillance video shows a man who appears to be rosa's stopping his car getting out shooting hernandez and a man she was with and then running off. as soon as we identified who he was, and we had a good idea of what type of vehicle he was in, we sent a statewide be on the lookout for the suspect in this vehicle. and
