the length of the power line to find the problem and get it fixed before that line can be reenergized. south bay hospital says emergency plans kicked in and patients were not in danger when it lost power substation failure disrupted service to santa clara valley medical center in san jose's o'connor hospital. backup generators came online. those generators also experienced problems for two hours and several valley medical center buildings. the emergency department was closed to stroke. heart attack trauma and ambulance arrivals. seven patients had to be transferred to other hospitals. bart has a new safety measure when the very hot weather is likely to be in place again today, trains top speeds are reduced from 70 miles an hour to 44 whenever the temperature has reached 100 degrees that caused some delays on the barriers and dublin pleasant in lines yesterday. we would anticipate about 10 minute delays and just those really hot

year old jose rosas shot and killed his ex girlfriend, susannah hernandez, paulino and wounded her boyfriend. authorities say rosa's then his friend's vehicle to try to escape to mexico but was caught at the border. the judge issued a protective order for the boyfriend and ordered rosa's held without bail. and alameda county sheriff's deputy is facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. he's accused of killing two people than trying to run away. ktvu crime reporter henry lee has information about the victims and the deputy who is finally in custody after being on the run a married couple shot and killed in dublin. the suspect an off duty alameda county sheriff's deputy it's a great loss for our community. and it's even more disheartening to find out that it was one of our own. that actually was the trigger person behind this tragic incident, authorities say. deputy devin williams jr invaded the home on colebrook lane with a gun and killed 42 year old maria tran, who worked as a nurse and her 57 year old

mean and cal fire crews are battling fire in the sierra that's burning out of control. the mosquito fire is burning across the eldorado and plaster county lines. hundreds of people have been told to evacuate. cal fire says that's for their own safety and to make the firefighters jobs easier. if people don't leave until they see flames, it does make it much more difficult for crews to get to the fire and protect their property. when those orders come in. it's the right time to leave. don't wait. there's not time to waste when an evacuation order goes in, it is time to get out. really scary. it's awful, but you know, i love living in the mountains. you know, you gotta take the bad with the good, i guess. the mosquito fire started tuesday quickly exploded in size and has now burned more than nine square miles. fire crews hope slightly cooler weather today will help them get

today's call for people to save energy is two hours longer than usual. the independent system operator is asking people all of us to limit our use of electricity between three o'clock this afternoon until 10 o'clock tonight, state officials hope cooler temperature starting tomorrow night will mean an end to those flex alerts. the power grid did see its biggest strain earlier this week, and a miscommunication is being blamed for some unnecessary power outages and several cities not served by pg and e cities include alameda, healdsburg, lodi and palo alto. the agency that oversees the power in those cities is the northern california power authority, and it says one of its dispatchers misunderstood communication from callous so as calling for outages. the n c p a says it is now working with calyx so to ensure such a miscommunication does not happen in the future. ppe genie is keeping its community resource centers open in the east bay today because of the heat and outages. the

alameda county site is the san leandro main library. contra costa county is at the rodriguez community center on f street and an iraqi anyone can drop in. you can charge your electric devices. you have wifi access along with getting water and snacks. we did find some people who took advantage of the services. i'm actually very pleased. i wish there were more people here. i wish i'm sure a lot of people don't even know about it and you know, but i love this. this is beautiful for the kids to hang out at now each side is open from eight o'clock this morning until 10 o'clock at night. now, even with the temperature starting to cool slightly, there's still concern in many places where we're still seeing triple digits. firefighters are telling people to keep taking it easy when they're outside. stay cool as much as possible. many people in the north bay may not have a conditioning. we found some of them taking refuge in one of napa's designated cooling centers. never seen anything where the weather has been this particularly high before, and

business owner in oakland is concerned for his workers safety after they were robbed at gun point twice in recent weeks. ktvu is amberleigh spoke with one of the workers who says he feels helpless. this is surveillance video of an armed robbery. two thieves walk up to a plumbing crew working in auckland's laurel district tuesday morning around 9 15 hurtful. ah traumatizing acerra , owner of oakland ruder and plumbing says this is not the first time his workers have been robbed twice in a matter of three weeks, but this year. we've had three vans, stolen equipment, thousands of dollars of equipments taken from us this time, one thief grabs plumbing equipment and runs to the getaway car and shortly after a thief opens one of the work vans and steals tools that will happen pretty fast. it was pretty quick. jose one of the three workers on site asked us not to show his face. he says two thieves walked up to him in the driveway and the one armed

with a gun approached him, he said, like, don't say nothing. and don't do nothing or i will kill you right now. i just got scared. jose says the thieves wore face masks, black hoodies and black jeans and that the thief armed with a gun spoke english with a central american accent, and he wore black and red nike tennis shoes. last night when i got home, i can still see his face. and i will. i mean, it's just like yeah, you can identify even with the mask on oh, yeah, of course this is the real has the camera and the lens. me the expensive sewer camera system that was stolen, he says. this equipment alone cost $20,000. he estimates that the loss from the armed robberies and the stolen vans adds up to $100,000. someone's gonna get hurt. someone's gonna get killed either us as field texts or them as as the thieves to prevent theft. the owner tells me he's removed the logos from all his vehicles. and put an extra locks. but all of these measures he says, wouldn't have prevented an armed robbery. now

he's calling on city leaders to do more to protect small businesses. amberleigh ktvu, fox two news thank you. amber and and robbed outside in east bay hospital. police say the guard was leaving the kaiser permanente medical center in san leandro just before noon yesterday with a bag of money and heading back to his armored truck. when he was shot , the guard collapsed in the suspect took off with the cash. we're scouring all the video that we can. i mean, there's literally dozens of cameras on the vicinity and around, um, the vicinity that will be looking through for more detailed suspect information. police say the victim is a man in his sixties who has worked for gardaworld for 40 years. the hospital was placed on lockdown for several hours while police searched for evidence. so far, no arrests have been made. california's water use dropped sharply last month as we deal with another year of drought.

this case would not comment any further. fire crews are battling a fire in the sierra that is burning out of control. the mosquito fire is burning across the eldorado and placer county lines. hundreds of people have been told to evacuate. cal fire says it's for their own safety and to make the firefighters jobs easier. if people don't leave until they see flames, it makes it much more difficult for crews to get to the fire and protect their property. when those orders come in. it's the right time to leave. don't wait . there's not time to waste when an evacuation order goes in, it is time to get out. really scary. it's awful, but you know, i love living in the mountains. you know, you gotta take the bad with the good, i guess. the mosquito fire started tuesday and quickly exploded in size and has now burned more than nine square miles. fire crews hope the slightly cooler weather today there will help them get control on the fire lines. because of that fire is still under investigation, and the fairview fire in southern california has burned more than 15 square miles. firefighters

in the east bay after he was shot and robbed outside a hospital. police say the guard was leaving the kaiser permanente medical center in san leandro just before noon yesterday with a bag of money. he was heading back to his armored truck when he was shot. the guard collapsed and the attacker took off with the money. we're scouring all the video that we can. i mean, there's literally dozens of cameras on the vicinity and around the vicinity that will be looking through for more detailed suspect information. police say the victim is a man in his sixties he's worked for gardaworld for 40 years. the hospital was put on lockdown for several hours as police searched for evidence so far, no arrests . we are hearing what may be the cause of that deadly mill fire in siskiyou county, a wood products company is looking into whether or not a machine failure at its facility was the cause. roseburg forest products says it produces electricity by burning fuel remnants at its mill in the city of weed, they say a machine

that sprays the ashes with water may have failed to call them down sufficiently that fire started friday killed two people and destroyed more than 100 homes and other buildings. roseburg says it is planning to provide up to $50 million for a restoration fund. scientists at san jose state university are working to explore the link between high heat like what we're seeing right now and massive wildfires. we got to take a look inside the fire weather lab scientists there say they are monitoring sensors all across the state and the country to study fires and the weather. they say computer models can detail how much wildfire risk there is. part of that model actually predicts the fuel dryness from weather conditions and that's over the whole us. so we use that at a very high resolution here in california to look at how dry the fuel's are actually getting because of the heat. they're also ready to deploy the technology to the fire lines with a mobile radar unit. the team is hoping to
