aren't just happening in san francisco, but other cities, too. there are a few new bumps in the road intentionally installed to stop the side shows in san francisco and lot of people and the minute they hear the siren man are moving out there pulling out quick. so this is a good thing for the community. i appreciate it. donut deterring speed bumps now guard the intersection of plymouth avenue and sido a street in the ingleside neighborhood a couple blocks from to 80. it's a hot spot for stunt drivers. until now, i see two people come and try to do it still, but no way unless they want to flip over. yeah seven different city intersections are undergoing an experiment all to curb the increasing side shows and increasing expense. besides creating safety problems, it also creates significant maintenance costs for us every time we have to go and re striped crosswalks in an

intersection that costs us about $5000. so what we're trying to do is to find low cost solutions that reduce exhibition driving behavior while improving safety for everyone in the rib at alamein e boulevard in geneva avenue x's marked the spot with what are called botts dots. i don't know if they're just small bumps. i don't know if they're actually gonna work so i hope they do a different tool being tested to stop the stunts cost ranging from 5000 to $30,000 an intersection. it's not cheap, but it's cheaper than doing a repeated repairs every single month. san francisco is not alone. a pilot project in oakland targets 10 spots, police say are a problem posts are popping up in center lines and more botts dots to prevent donuts. down in san jose 10 intersections are getting chatter bars and raised pavement markers. still some don't think it's enough. this is not going to stop us slide show. you need food police enforcement for that

they move from one area to the other plan for now, figure out what bumps work best to make skipping in circles impossible, then add and expand to other intersections to curb what many are seeing. like new, you know, fresh tracks all the time. san francisco police does have a stunt driving response unit. just last weekend, there were several side shows that are now under investigation, but so far no arrests have been made. brooks jarocz ktvu fox two news and we all know something has to be done. it's kind of like cat and mouse. they put these in one area. then it just kind of like the lady says they moved to another area, is it? how new is this and how many different intersections? will they put these bumps in? well there are seven different intersections just in san francisco. they're looking to expand. based on what research they developed from these intersections because of those different techniques than they want to expand it to other neighborhoods. other cities have done this. they started doing it last year in oakland. of course , san jose is trying to do this

as well. and really, it's to try to keep costs down when it comes to maintaining some of the most popular intersections where these things take place. they hope by putting this stuff in place, it won't happen quite as much. or at least that message will get out there. that stunt driving is not a good thing. alright, that's everybody's hope. alright, brooks. thank you. now to the central valley people in merced remembering the four family members who were kidnapped and killed the bodies of a baby girl. her parents and her uncle were found in an orchard two days after they were taken at gunpoint from their family business. we have since learned that the suspect in the case once worked for the family and had also sent angry text messages. to them a year ago. ktvu crime reporter henry lee as the latest on the story. a tragic ending for a family kidnapped in the central valley . the bodies of a baby girl, her parents and her uncle found by a rancher in an almond orchard in merced county. ktvu has learned from a source close to the

investigation that the two brothers were killed with a machete. the source says. the wife of one of them was then shot as she held her baby girl in her arms. that infant was then left to die. we were hoping, praying that we're going to find the family safe. and worst fears are realized, and the family is immeasurable on the grief that they're going through a suspect in the case, jesus salgado tried to kill himself in the town of atwater and is now under police guard at the hospital. merced county sheriff burn warranty says the suspect's been talking off and on with investigators the motive most likely financial related out of money. or anger, and it could be the both of those apply here. now the convicted robber could face murder charges with a special circumstance of multiple murder for allegedly killing eight month old urruti dairy. her parents, jazz, lean cower and jazz deep singh and her uncle amandeep singh. i've learned from the family the suspect had once worked for the victims who ran gateway parking and storage off south highway 59 in merced. a relative tells me salgado drove a truck for the

family. one time, authorities say this surveillance video shows the armed suspect leading brothers jazz deep in amandeep singh from the back of the business on monday morning. some people say well, they don't look distressed. well, i got to tell you right now, their heads were probably spending. they got a guy with a gun. who knows what comments or threats he did make suspect drives off with the victims in a truck and then returns to kidnap the mother and daughter. the truck belonging to the victim was found on fire the victim's whereabouts unknown until their bodies were found late wednesday afternoon. unfortunate part of this whole thing is that by the time we're getting into this investigation, we believe full heartedly that they murders have been committed , told prosecutors likely won't get this case until next week, so they have some time to review it. the suspect is still in the hospital and search for any accomplices is still ongoing. henry lee ktvu fox, two knees and the killing of the four family members in merced has been a shock, especially for those in the sick community. there have been a number of attacks and hate crimes leveled against this community in

northern california over the last few years coming up tonight at 6 30, we are taking a closer look at how this week killings every nude conversations about public safety. we're following developing news right now out of las vegas were two people were killed and six others were injured in a stabbing rampage. three of the survivors are in critical condition tonight it happened near the wind las vegas casino on the strip just before noon. police say the attacks ban to different locations and appeared to be totally unprovoked. the attacker ran off , but witnesses followed him and he was taken into custody. thankful for the community being witnesses to this, and as you can imagine what we have scores of witnesses to continue to get statements from and we have a number of video surveillance that we have to get through here . in the immediate future. police released one surveillance video of the man running from the scene. there's no word yet on a motive. witnesses say some of the victims appeared to be showgirls posing for photos with

tourists and appeared to be trying to protect others from the attacker. prison inmates cleaning an area of trash in back of ill are being hailed as heroes tonight for intervening as a woman was being stabbed along a bike trail. ktvu cristina rendon tells us. not only did that crew helps save the woman's life, they held down the suspect until police arrived. a 33 year old woman walking her dog on the alamo creek bike trail tuesday morning randomly attacked vacaville. police say, an 18 year old man began stabbing her california department of corrections and rehabilitation officer and an inmate crew cleaning up debris on the trail saw it happen and rushed to help. these photos are of an inmate cleanup crew in 2021 very unsettling because this is a completely unprovoked attack. i was told that it was a horrific scene. nicole king says the stabbing happened on the trail behind brookdale court, the cdcr officer put the 18 year old in handcuffs until police arrived. a spokesperson for the california department of

corrections and rehabilitation, says the officer. inmates also tended to the woman's wounds until first responders arrived. part of a statement reads thanks to the heroism displayed by the cdcr officer and the crew. a life was saved. the department is offering mental health services to those involved. we are very proud of the courage displayed and send our thoughts and support to the victim. we have to tip our hats off to the inmates and the cdcr officer. extremely brave, courageous. yeah. if they had not intervened then this would have been a totally different case, and i would have never known. i mean, it's sad because you should be able to be safe and being a safe space where you live, you know, so it's unfortunate that that happened. the woman has been released from the icu. she remains in the hospital. police aren't releasing details about her injuries, but say her appearance was physically altered. the suspect, 18 year old demarco ross parker is in solano county jail on charges of mayhem and attempted homicide. we understand that this is this is an anomaly in our city. and

it doesn't happen every day and we'll do what we can to prevent it from happening again. in the future of the whole thing is you have these inmates that are out here. a lot of people. look, these guys commit crimes, and you know their own work crews, and they always look at a minute in a bad life. sometimes we have to look at them. they're paying their price. they're doing what they need to do. in this case, it helps save a life. police say this story is a good reminder to always be aware of your surroundings. if you're going to be walking or cycling on any trail, let someone know where you're going. and when you're expected to be back in vacaville , cristina rendon ktvu fox two news state agency that oversees the hiring and firing within california's police departments will now audit every law enforcement agency in alameda, contra costa and san francisco counties. now this comes after 47 alameda county deputies were removed from their jobs after it surfaced that they received unsuitable marks on their psychological exams. the california commission on peace officer standards and training

told ktvu that a letter was sent to all the police departments in those three counties. asking them to make their hiring files available dating back to 2016, now to east oakland. students at ridsdale high school we're back on the king of state's campus today, just over a week after six people were shot there, some students received hugs as they entered the campus this morning , and there were counselors available to listen to any concerns. police were also on hand to make them feel safer. the district is also installing a secure door entry system, upgrading cameras and the staff portable radio system as well as revamping the lobby. not all of our kids are here today, and that's understandable. but we want all of them to know. maybe some will see the news today and just know that we're here for them ready to serve them. at least two gunmen entered the ridsdale continuation high school eight days ago and started shooting as security guard counselor to other campus employees and two adult students were wounded at berkeley woman

ask the move gives us more time to close his $44 billion deal to buy the san francisco based social media company after months spent fighting to get out of it. twitter has been seeking a court order to force the completion of the deal at the agreed upon price it describes must move to delay the trial as an invitation to further mischief and delay. the trial was initially set to start on october 17th. the judge gave the parties until october 28th to reach a deal. otherwise the trial will happen in november.

produce him and three other west coast leaders signed a new agreement to combat climate change. today they met in san francisco to renew and expand their partnership to move towards a low carbon economy. ktvu political reporter greg lee explains what's in the commitment? governor gavin newsom walk shoulder to shoulder with governors of oregon and washington and the premier of british columbia in san francisco, the west coast leaders coming together around a singular issue, climate change, we had atmospheric rivers. we had heat domes. we have watched. we have smelled. we have suffered to the smoke damages to our ocean ecosystem, flooding extreme hailstorms 10 days of the likes of which we couldn't even imagine the worst case scenario. the leaders each shared examples of extreme weather, drought and wildfires. together they signed an agreement to work collaboratively to fight climate change and invested the transition to clean energy. so we have to do things radically

differently, and that's the spirit that defines this agreement. spirit of collaboration, cooperation. we're demonstrating that we are much more powerful and impactful working together than when we're working alone. the west coast leaders met at presidio tunnel tops park, which recently opened with a focus on providing equitable access to green space. equity a major part of this agreement, when you think of the strategies to bring a board, just society. a more equitable society, a society where everyone's got a shot. by building a clean energy economy leaders renewed the so called pacific coast collaborative, which launched in 2008 when arnold schwarzenegger was california governor. part of the agreement calls for installing more e v charging stations along the west coast. newsome recently set a list of ambitious climate goals, including phasing out the sale of new gas powered cars by 2035 to share best practices we seek to compete. think you heard that from jurisdiction to

jurisdiction with one another, but in an enlightened sense that competition has brought us to where we are. today we stole best practices and we started right here in california with the low carbon fuel standard pacific coast collaborative aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050. greg lee ktvu. box two news. californians overwhelmingly support a new state law that sets up a framework for court ordered treatment for people struggling with severe mental health issues. the berkeley igs poll shows 76% of voters approved the law only 15% say they are opposed. the law has strong bipartisan support with 80% of democrats pulled in favor and 69% of republicans. the governor signed that bill in san jose last month. under the legislation, counties are being asked to set up court systems to address the needs of people with severe mental illness who often languish on the streets. the court is expected to assist up to 12,000 people. people people

living in a san jose encampment made up of rvs, trailers and other vehicles are bracing that for a major sweep that will leave them with nowhere to go. that sweeps stems from an earlier move last month to clear a sprawling encampment in the flight path of mineta san jose airport starting tomorrow, the city plans to disband a new homeless rv camp that has popped up now in nearby columbus park. city officials estimate more than 140, rvs and other vehicles , many of which are inoperable, have taken over that area. the city posted notices to sweep the new camp last week. just amazing . the calendar says it's the fifth day of october feels more like june gloom. let me show you what i mean right now, or live weather camera indicating we get very barely barely see the tip top of the golden gate bridge towers there that stands 746 ft. tall, so we have a compressed condensed, shallow deck of clouds that are drifting through the gate into the bay and trying to make tracks towards the

lot of anger as well. the four family members allegedly kidnapped by suspect hey, sue salgado found brutally murdered has hit a chord in this town of nearly 90,000 people. the sikh community is especially grieving the loss of life. and friends. awful news for our community. it never happened before. you know, since i've been living in merced so it's very sad and bad news members of the sikh community are urging calm, saying this crime isn't racially or culturally motivated. they're holding vigils in the park behind me each night through sunday as a way of pulling the community together. they're also asking for more security. we need more safety for the public and so that way, you know our business community feel a little bit more safer so they can conduct their business in merced city and county officials say police patrols are increasing, especially around the vigils. we have a good community, a tight knit community and people when the chips are down when bad things happen. we rally around each other and love each other,
