get much cooler over by the coast when their upper so it's a foghorn wednesday, at least for the morning. that's for low clouds. fog. cool sunny, breezy inland temps are on their way down. they started that yesterday and they'll continue that today. sixties and seventies are very low. hades alright, it's four o'clock in the morning. he's here, mr sal castaneda. good morning, sir . good morning, steve. you know there's not a lot going on. i like it that way. we want it to be nice and quiet and boring in the traffic center. uh and that's exactly what we have. we don't have a lot going on. which is nice. you can see. traffic is moving well at the bay bridge, and there has been no major issues. looks like my to 80 camera. maybe down, so let's take a look at the maps in saying i'm saying and there's not a lot going on on 2 81. oh one or 85 4. oh, one. let's get back to the headlines. thank you , sal new this morning in livermore firefighters responded to a car crash that happened. on the southbound lanes of murrieta boulevard. firefighters located one person and a car in the

front lawn of an apartment complex. fire department chief dan moyle says the driver was possibly ejected from that vehicle. that person went to the hospital. we do not know their condition right now. we were dispatched tonight for a single vehicle into a structure it would appear it was traveling at a high rate of speed and left the roadway and i would i would guesstimate 50 to 60 yards of contact with other items before coming to rest. the coton lanes of murrieta boulevard were shut down as police were at the scene , and they are still investigating that crash. holly time for to a bus driver in the east bay is recovering after a bus passenger who had a hammer and a gun attacked him in oakland. now take a look at this surveillance video shows a woman swinging a hammer at the transit bus driver in oakland. then the woman takes out a gun. and pulls the trigger, but the gun did not fire police investigators say this same woman has targeted a transit bus drivers and

passengers before ktvu investigative reporter brooks jarocz shows us the exclusive video of what happened and the details. in this bus surveillance video from sunday afternoon in transit driver is seen in the white shirt and black jacket. seconds later, woman runs across the street in strikes the driver over the head with a hammer, he tackles her to the ground and tries to defend himself. it appears on its face to be a very violent random attack, but he didn't stop there , even as other operators arrived near the coliseum, bart station along san leandro street in east oakland at the coliseum, please passenger just hit the driver. he's restraining her minutes later, the driver gets up and soon, investigators say the suspect pulls out a semiautomatic pistol, pointing it back at the driver. she then pulled out a 22 caliber semiautomatic pistol. she pulled the pistol out. she racked the

pistol. ah and then pull the trigger. ah as she told the bus driver. she was going to kill him. but the gun never fired. deputies say it was either user error or a weapon malfunction. they arrested 45 year old cherie hall, now charged with a slew of felony firearm assault charges loaded 22 caliber pistol, hammer , pepper spray and a pocket knife were all recovered. it makes you think twice. um about how you deal with people. it's not the first time hall has been accused of assaulting bus drivers or passengers, records show in 2019. she was charged for pushing a passenger off a bus causing injuries in a separate case, pepper, spraying someone in the face and pulling out a knife and sources tell me hall has repeatedly targeted the victim in this latest incident in august, physically attacking the driver and in september, threatening to kill him. the motive is not known, but mental illness is suspected. the alameda county sheriff's office is now trying to get a restraining order to ban her from the busses. we feel that
4:05 am
she should not be allowed to be anywhere near a bus bus stop. be allowed to get onto a bus because she poses immediate risk and danger to the public. for now, holes in santa rita jail and the transit operator is able to walk away his fellow employees knowing it could have been much worse when were counted those type of situations it's like, what do you do? records show hall has had many felony convictions, meaning she should not have had her hands on any weapons. transit says it will pursue prosecution for any crimes against its employees. brooks jarocz ktvu, fox two news tell osha is investigating a horrible accident that happened in menlo park after a man fell into a wood chipper. emergency crews were called to a home a few streets away from flood park where a man trimming trees died after falling into the chipper. the connecticut based company says that the man worked that the man worked for declined comment on the incident, and the man's name has not been released . the cemetery county coroner

4:08 am
well. we feel like this is the best way after assessing everything for us to move forward, never easy. no matter what decision you make in a situation like this, um it's not going to be perfect. and last night ktvu s amberleigh talked to fans outside of chase center getting reaction to all of this before the preseason game against portland. mystic warriors. tuesday night's preseason game drew a sold out crowd fancy. it's a preview of what they hope will be another winning season. right now, we just want to see all the new players but along with the anticipation of a new season is the uncertainty that has followed after someone leaked video of draymond green. in confronting teammate jordan paul paul shoving green in green punching poll it happened wednesday during practice. maybe they should trade him, you know? because he's done this too many times caused a lot of problems in the past, and this is just
4:09 am
one more thing. he needs to be a leader. and what he did that day was not being a leader. i think it does set a bad example. i felt really bad when it happened, watching it and it it hurt me inside, you know, because a lot of kids, you know, young and old look up to him. he's like, you know, come on. you're a better man than that. draymond. you can do better. still this fan and others wore their loyalty to number 23. he's done so many good things for the franchise and for, you know, just watch basketball around here, right? so not a good look but still love the love the player. it happens. you know, in the heat of battle, you know when it comes to basketball and other sports, so i understand it. just we just wish it didn't happen on video members of this family from martinez say they're warriors, fans and love green that says he didn't let his 11 year old son watched the video, but he's aware of it. i don't think that should happen. animals. i think they can work out their differences. great player can still do great things

with the warriors. do you want to see him? stay? yes i would love to see him say amberleigh ktvu, fox two news. for nine is the time time to check in with steve paulson for a look at our weather, looking ahead to the weekend, steve, i think we always are midweek, so it's going to be a little bit cooler. it sounds like there's very little change here. well, you know what i mean? it's pretty cool coast and bay. i don't think that's changing all that much inland temps continue to come down. we'll take a look nationally because what we're in is called a blocking pattern. the reason there's a big, strong high in greenland. there's also a high right over here right there, and nothing's moving. and then you get there's a little low in southern california. believe me that lit up southern california yesterday. the key though, is this system coming right out of here? that's a deep system that comes in there, so everything is it's like a it's like a big boulder creek or something. everything's backed up. and that low lit up southern california with multiple i mean many many lightning strikes
4:11 am
cloud cloud cloud to ground. calms down and then at night, but look at all the activity and then you can see how it's rotating back towards that low, which is off santa barbara in l a. but there were i mean over southern california desert, the high desert. we get the fog and boy do we ever west southwest of 25? out of one observation at travis, so the onshore wind or breeze is in place. so your wednesday forecast inland temps which have been very, very obstinate, but wanting to be warm to hot started to come down yesterday and will continue that today. coast in bay are stuck in the fifties and sixties, so the inland forecast is really much much cooler here. i mean, you're seeing eighties eighties eighties and now upper seventies for many and maybe even a little cooler than that. water temps came down. we talked about that point arena is now 50 to fifty's for the monterey buoys, which are in the mid sixties a week ago. that's a huge impact on a lot of attempts to coast and also in san francisco fifties on almost all the attempts almost all couple of forties napa 49
4:12 am
middletown, 49. degrees 49 ross , and you're seeing fifties for some a lot of low fifties here. that high parked off the pacific northwest, not moving in the low stays down off southern california, so it is called a blocking pattern. the key as though you get these little systems, one moves out another one moves in, but they all favor southern california over us for now. there's some hints. if you look past 10 12 days, it may be the pattern will be more in our favor. but that's always the way 50 60 seventies now low eighties. really we might get a little bump up on friday, but then it's back to cooler on the weekend. all right. thank you. steve police are searching for burglars who have broken into multiple homes in pleasanton coming up how one woman says she's scared off the intruders severe flooding problem in san francisco at another high rise building. look at this. investigators will leave. this was no accident.

eating several home burglaries, including several attempted break ins that happened on the very same night and one woman who scared off two intruders told ktvu crime reporter henry lee. the intruders almost made it up the stairs of her house. i heard a huge bang. louder than you could imagine. this woman who didn't want to be identified, was at home and pleasant and last week when she heard what turned out to be a rear sliding glass door being smashed. it's 9 20 at night, i heard footsteps up the stairs. i think i maybe had one more foot step left, and i kind of froze in my bedroom. but she decided to take action. i just screamed and screamed and screamed, and i said, get out of my house! and they ran and we're out. the same way they came in. she looked out her window and saw them drive
4:16 am
off. she then went outside and called for help. this surveillance video capture her streams as a neighbor ran to help. it's terrifying. i don't want to ever happen to anybody. i felt sort of unprotected and not knowing what to do. she thinks her home near foothill road and west las posadas boulevard was picked because she had just turned off her outside lights. her car was in the garage. this video shows a car driving down her street, make a u turn and then parked near her home. the intruders went in through a side gate before breaking in. it happened five minutes after the same man trying to break into the unoccupied home down the street. and this video shows what police believe could be the same man entering the side yard of another pleasant and home that night, but they're scared off when the motion detector sensor activates. investigators are still trying to identify the two men for this woman, she says. she stood up for herself. i just knew i had to protect myself at that moment because it was either me or them. she says she wants to get the word out to warn others. if it can happen
4:17 am
here, i think it can happen anywhere. and it's important to be ready and not have false security. police say they've investigated 35 incidents this year in which intruders broke into the back of homes to steal jewelry and purses. so far, no one has been hurt. unpleasant henry lee ktvu fox studios. alright henry. thank you. time for 17. the antioch's police department wants to hire new police officers as the fbi and the counter. cast a county d. a s office continue to investigate alleged officer misconduct investigation has led to eight police officers being taken off duty and placed on paid leave. the police chief says antioch's like many cities, is struggling to hire police officers, the starting pay for a police officer and anti aqi is $107,000 a year. the city is also now offering $30,000 bonuses to fill 10 vacancies on the forest. we're currently in a very robust recruiting and hiring dr over the next year, we've instituted a significant incentive program

available only to prime members , but you can sign up for 30 day free membership to try it out. and if you decide you don't like it, you can cancel before the first monthly fee is due time is now for 19. steve paulson's back and we were all talking about fog around parts of the bear. there's a lot to go around, that's for sure. it's already making a pretty good push north south and from west to east. and inland temps, which were really kind of holding their ground there for a while are now coming down. they started to come down yesterday, and they'll continue that. just an amazing october pattern here. if you want it warmer. i can't help you. but southern california is like what's going on. all the good looking weather folks this morning in southern california, dave are busy this morning. brett kavanaugh just sit there and say, oh, another nice day. no, look at the act. i mean it has been lit up, especially from santa barbara to los angeles, oceans, oceanside, san diego and even coming in from the desert. that's all coming back around alot, which is just off the coast. we have an onshore breeze
4:20 am
in place here. the wind hasn't been that bad, but it's definitely onshore. so 50 sixties coast and bay seventies and really most locations now inland are in the seventies. there's a few low eighties kind of holding on a little bit. san francisco should be on the high side for october, 12th. they should be 71 degrees today, 60. yesterday 61 monday 62 sunday 59 saturday 61. really well below average cold, cold, cold fifties on the temps for almost everybody, because it's the big fog banks already in place. i don't think these changed all that much. clayton has dropped to 49 most locations are in the fifties. walnut creek 50. alamo 50. then a lot of mid fifties there, so i mean, you can see their southern california again. look it right during long beach . i mean, that is lit up for the morning and there's numerous lightning strikes. southern california yesterday. it's called a blocking pattern that high is not moving the low see
4:21 am
the flow coming around that what happens is you get another low. it looks like it wants to come in underneath. it's called undercutting also blocking pattern. so this low out here will probably do this which in turn will kick this one. he's that looks to be the pattern for the next week or so. 50 sixties by the water seventies and now very low eighties inland, maybe a little bump up on friday, but then right back to cooler on the weekend, you guys the recordings were not comments that show frustration got the better of you, but display the character you are comfortable with when the cameras aren't rolling, turbulent los angeles city council after the council president was caught on tape making comments that were racist and crude. now the white house is stepping in on this, saying everyone involved should resign . women are so often erased from the screen. we're so often erased from history and the present director showcases her work here in the bay area will take you to the mill valley film festival, where she debuted her film about the life and mur r

we're not seeing the critical unless you're up towards sonoma county airport a mile and a quarter half moon bay three. other than that, it looks pretty good. just a huge fog bank if you got some of that around 18,000 ft, although you can find a little bit of an offshore breeze, but not at the surface. at the surface. it's west southwest. 50 60 seventies for most i'm holding on to a couple of very low eighties but sunny, breezy, cooler inland attempts continue to come down. san francisco should be 71 degrees haven't even been quote haven't sniffed that all month. they have not had a 70 degree temp this entire october today, i'm going 60 tuesday. monday sunday and saturday 59 to 62 or the high temperatures. and the inland temps, which were you know, trying to hang onto those mid upper eighties and even low nineties? not anymore. wanna creek yesterday was 79. i went the same today. it's just a temperature trend is down, down down fifties on the tips here and there, maybe a couple of sixties but a lot of fifties almost everybody is saying cloudy on these temps. i mean, look at the peninsula, but as i
4:42 am
said, thermals and gets 54 59 everyone stuck on the temps and the highs are very cool. and the redwood city yesterday did not get over 70 thirties in the mountains, truckee, south lake tahoe fifties up and down the coast unless you're in southern california, where it is lit up in between l a and long beach about 1500 lightning strikes yesterday in southern california from santa barbara to l, a long beach and also into some of the inland areas. that's because there's a low down there. the height of the north. it's called blocking pattern. everything is stuck. you need an overall upper air pattern to break down only minor changes. here. it looks like another low is going to replace this one. right here instead of going up and over. you can't do that. so it comes underneath and that kicks this one out. that looks to be the pattern for the next 7 to 10. days after that, we might see some changes, but until then, it's a lot of fog, low clouds and drizzle for us. you guys alright, forbidding in the field like fall for sure. thanks steve, a workplace tragedy on the peninsula after a tree trimmer was killed on the job

voting yes on prop 31 will end the sale of candy flavored tobacco products. saving kids from nicotine addiction. vote yes on 31. san jose voters have a big decision to make, who will be the next mayor. the two candidates are cindy chavez, santa clara county supervisor and matt mehan, a city council member there in a runoff election, and they appeared last night in a virtual forum. cindy chavez says she wants people who feel unheard to have a voice in city government. mehan said he worries about the city's trajectory where it's going on issues, including crime and affordable housing. i think we need a smart growth strategy that removes barriers and fees to provide building in areas where we want housing where we

have the infrastructure to sustain greater densities without making quality of life. terrible for everyone. i think one of the challenges is that the city hasn't treated the neighborhoods as allies and, um , partners, but really, almost as enemies, a surprising them with projects in their communities, and i would change that right away. latest polls show it's a tight race. cindy chavez has received campaign donations from labor groups and police unions, along with the 49ers. matt mehan has the support of a political action committee formed by the outgoing mayor sam liccardo. in the south bay for women's organizations are teaming up to reach more voters, especially in underserved communities. we are joined today in solidarity by with our black, indigenous asian and caucasian brothers and sisters to call out to our community and to tell them that your voice matters hope is possible and that we have the

4:50 am
month. the last one they had was the end of september when it was 74 since then has been all sixties and fifties. even inland temps which were holding on to some upper eighties, even a few low nineties for awhile, not anymore. 79 yesterday. warner creek. i went about the same again today fifties on most of the attempts here, almost everyone. they're pretty close, little warmer on the peninsula, but it's overcast and the highs and the peninsula been very cool. they've been upper sixties low low seventies here. santa cruz, 57 54 more gun hill san martin hollister's in their saratoga's 53 scotts valley. one observation there at 49 51 in boulder creek, thirties in the mountains, forties fifties sixties up and down the coast, but it's all about southern california about 1500 lightning strikes yesterday you can see from around the grapevine santa barbara over to the high desert over to the desert. and along the coast and the circulation around that is coming from land to sea because the low is just off of southern california. but look at that right just nears just south of los angeles. it's

a busy morning for the weather folks down there, so if you're going down there, keep an eye on things. that's a lot of thunderstorm activity. everything's locked in. it's called a blocking pattern. the high stays there. the main highs in greenland. deep deep low will be forming in the great lakes all the way down to the deep south, so everything's kind of blocked out. you can't move it so as long as it's there, we only see minor day to day changes in right now they've been c seventies a couple of very low eighties slight bump up on tim's friday might be possible. after that, we should go back to a cooler pattern, you guys maybe they should trade him, you know, because he's done this too many times caused a lot of problems in the past, and this is just one more thing. fans reacting to draymond green, punching jordan's pool, how the team disciplined the four time world champion plus nasa says it's ready to defend earth if an asteroid heads our way. i'm at finn and i've got the details on nasa's latest mission coming up.

5:11 am
being foggy in october. fog tober? yeah that's a new term. i heard you don't say that this time of year, but the boy it is stuck. now if you're far enough inland, it can be hot. vacaville yesterday, fairfield, said 90 but livermore 87. after that, it drops off the table conquered was 79 san jose santa rosa, menlo park canfield seventies oakland only 67 in san francisco , a brisk 61 degrees, plenty of low clouds and fog inland. zaps continue to favor some low nineties but for my forecast zone temps are coming down inland. i only went low eighties. this time most will be in the seventies. fifties and low sixties on the coast. i mean, i think santa cruz yesterday was only 66. i mean, and then that's that was in town. it's cooler than that over by the beaches. san francisco today went 60 tuesday. monday sunday and saturday 59 to 62 so i mean, they should be around 71
5:12 am
not even close. the inland towns conquered now. i mean, livermore is definitely been the outlier here because conquered. wanna creek have been coming down down and some monday 82 yesterday was 79 degrees. i went the same today 79 fifties on a lot of attempts here. there's a couple of sixties but really most locations are stuck because the low cloud decks just huge. so windsor's 52 upper forties on napa's at 49, middletown, 48 seeing 48 cent and some of them a lot of low to mid fifties or the water temps came down and that that is a huge impact on the overnight lows when you get temperatures now in the mid fifties instead of low sixties on the water temps. 49 crescent city to 68 in san diego, 72 in palm springs, 30 and trucking now south lake tahoe 32 southern california lit up yesterday southern san joaquin valley there were around 1500 lightning strikes. yeah in and around southern california in the desert and at the lowest off the coast. which is why you're seeing that go from land to sea.
5:13 am
but take a look here this morning. right there. look at that angle wouldn't boom. these are big thunderstorms that are popping up right there over the malibu. so i busy morning in southern california. for many for us. the pattern is just not changing. it's locked in. it's called a blocking pattern. the main high is in greenland. okay so that's anchored. their deep systems are going into the great lakes, the northeast all the way down to the deep south, and then we have that high off the pacific northwest little lows trying to sneak in underneath they form either they come in this way and then form here or they want replaces the other one and kicks it along. it's called a kicker, so not much changing here for the next week or so. fifties sixties upper seventies for most are very, very low eighties here. coast fog breezy, maybe slight bump up on some inland temps friday, then back to cooler on the weekend, you guys all right. thank you, steve. well, police are searching for the burglars who've broken into multiple homes in pleasanton coming up how one woman says she's scared off the intruders, severe flooding problem and another san francisco high rise building by

getting several home burglaries , including several attempted break ins that happened on the same night. one woman who didn't want to be identified, told ktvu . she was at home when she heard noise. it was her rear sliding glass door being smashed. downstairs heard a huge bang. louder than you could imagine. i heard footsteps up the stairs. i think i maybe had one more foot step left, and i kind of froze in my bedroom. i just screamed and screamed and screamed, and i said, get out of my house and they ran and we're out. the same way they came in that surveillance video captured the moment those thieves left then
5:17 am
five minutes later, the same men tried to break into this unoccupied home down the street . police believe the suspects could be the same men caught on camera going into the side yard of another home in pleasant and earlier that same night, but they were scared off when the motion detectors sensor activated. another san francisco high rise apartment building is dealing with major flooding problems. but in this is not an accident. people who live in the 29 story 100 venice building early yesterday morning to find water gushing down the hallways and into their apartments. one of the tenants saw a man attacking a pipe leading to this flooding. he physically stopped him from attacking the pipe. and then i guess the man was attacking the pipe got taken away, and i guess he was taken away in an ambulance. it seems like he was having some sort of mental episode maybe 46 year old michael, nine, lives in the building and was arrested in

black women are so often erased from the screen. we're so often erased from history, and the present were so often a race from stories involving movement building and civil rights. at the mill valley film festival was founded back in the late 19 seventies, and one of their goals is to give women and people of color a bigger voice in movie making. it allows you to put yourself in somebody else's shoes, and that's what we need more than ever. now there's already buzz at the movie till will get oscar nominations when they're announced in january. amazon second prime day sales event of the year wraps up today , amazon is offering prime members special deals on a variety of products. shoppers tell us some of the best deals they found are an electronic and beauty products. but amazon is also cutting prices on everyday items in an effort to get its customers to buy their holiday gifts right now. their goal here is to really let you get a head

are still walking to class where blood stains are on the sidewalk . what immediate action is being done? when are you increasing? officers are you collaborating with you? cpd do you plan to patrol around the dorm areas? immediate action must be taken. we cannot wait until another person is murdered. and next time it might be a uc berkeley student. berkeley is a great and diverse city with one of the world's premier universities. we should not permit a reputation for crime ridden streets to taint this wonderful munity and university. city council member said the parents are rightfully concerned. they say they are supporting the police department and fully funding it so they can be fully staffed. but the police department staffing is at a historic low. we're seeing this across the country. so although the police chief says they are putting additional patrols in the area here around telegraph there just aren't a lot of officers available to be out on the streets. they are actively looking for saturday's shooter

about the fog. it's mr steve paulson. i thank you, sir. visibility can be restricted for a few, but most locations are reporting much better visibility than we saw the last couple of mornings that's for sure. sonoma county airport a mile and a quarter now, livermore says, five conquered 10. that doesn't mean there aren't some areas where it's like i can't see very far. but for a majority here, it's between five and 10 miles. the worst fog was towards the santa clara valley yesterday down towards monterey. that's not the case today. nine miles at san martin. they were zero visibility at one time yesterday . watson ville monterey also slams, but there's a little bit of fog out there. so there's a big fog bank. no doubt about it and temperatures. the water temps came down. so it's upper fifties. for many on the coast are very, very low sixties, including san francisco. inland temps were reluctant to come down for a couple of days. yesterday they started that trend, and they will continue san francisco. it should be around 71 degrees this time of year. they can't even sniff that. i mean, it is really cold
6:40 am
sixties and forecasts high for today. 61 was the high yesterday 62 monday, 59 on sunday. and saturday, 61 running well below even the lows have been below although it does look a little above today. 51 52 santa rosa san rafael a lot of fifties here mid fifties upper fifties to a few sixties did have a couple of forties for awhile. clayton was in there and alamo. now they're 50 so low clouds and fog making that that sends the 10th two point comes in higher temperature. me too. the lows come up a little bit thirties in the mountains. truckee south like tahoe 50 sixties on the coast and southern california, very active about 1500 lightning strikes yesterday. now at night it dies down for the inland areas over the high desert southern san joaquin valley and also over the grapevine. but not this morning, right over l a. you can see there's been some pretty good activity here. it'll pick up again later today because that lows stationary has two speeds slow and stop because the height of the north is blocking everything. so we are
6:41 am
not moving here on much of the forecast. there's also a really strong high in greenland deep lows, dropping into the great lakes, north, east and south until this whole hemispheric pattern breaks down. i don't think much is changing 50 60 seventies for what it's worth. for what? it's worth 18 to 14 day outlook by the climate prediction center shows above normal rainfall for us, and some of the insomnia is those are a suite of forecasts. projections at 500 millibars has lower pressure and maybe some rain forests. that's again about the third or fourth week about the fourth week. i should say 50 60 seventies on most of the attempts could be a slight warm up on friday, then the weekend looks cooler again. you guys save time of 6 41 biden administration wants big changes for gig workers what that could mean for companies like uber and lift, but first, let's check in with gasia mikaelian for look at what's coming up in the seven o'clock hour of mornings on two. good morning, gasia. good morning, ali and dave when i join you in studio, puerto rico, devastated by a recent hurricane still has a long way to go and

and the 49ers mehan has the support of a political action committee formed by the outgoing mayor sam carter. the administration says it wants to increase protections for so called gig workers. the labor department's proposal would require companies to classify gig workers as employees right now they are considered independent contractors, which means they don't qualify for minimum wage and other benefits . uber lyft and doordash stock fell sharply on this news yesterday, but they're up slightly this morning. the final rule from the labor department is expected next year. the national labor relations board has filed a complaint against starbucks, accusing the company of discrimination against union leaders at its castro district store in san francisco. the store on 18th street in san francisco is one of two in the bay area that recently voted to unionize. the complaint says that starbucks unlawfully questioned employees about their union sympathies. and discriminated against employees who supported the union drive. a hearing is scheduled in january.
