man came on campus. specifically looking for my child. and he found him in the bathroom and he assaulted him. and i believe that he needs to pay for what he did. jamal and shanti brown say they were shocked after learning their third grader had been accosted by a strange man while at school on september 23rd. they say he grabbed two boys on campus that day. they also believe he's related to one of their sons schoolmates and was upset because he thought the boys were bullying his niece over snacks. he followed my son into the bathroom. did the same thing picked him up, push them, pick them up and put them on the wall and threaten him as well for chasing her for talkies. and then just drop them. and that's that's what happened. oakland unified school district released this statement saying in part there was an incident in september at an $0 elementary school in which a family member of a student entered campus after school threatened to other students and allegedly assaulted

at least one of them. oakland police were called to the campus and staff explained to them what happened. usd is cooperating with the opd investigation. son had nightmares. um, the first the first couple of days he did have a nightmare. he didn't want to go to baseball practice. he didn't want to do that, so he was traumatized from the event. the brown say they have complained about the campus being unsecured, and it seems some gates are only locked at certain times, with violent incidents happening in oakland schools and across the country. they want more safety precautions and accountability. this man is still on the lose, and we have a very clear picture of him several pictures of him. so i want to know. why is it so hard to find him when you know the family? the browns also say there is security video of this man entering the campus and they've requested it from oakland police, but they haven't received it yet. oakland police say they'll continue investigating this case. julie

and this comes after another incident at another school in oakland, where a child wandered away. an autistic child wandered away from another school. have police been in touch with the parents in this particular case, lamonica yes, they have. they have interviewed the parents. they talked with the children, but i guess it's just taking them a little while to figure out exactly what happened. they're just not sure i don't think they've been given an update recently. as to what's happening with this man. they do know who he is. he's a family member of another student there, so i guess they're just, um, you know, asking for more information about this, and they want to see him arrested. they want to press charges because he did allegedly grabbed their child and you can understand why they are upset. lamonica. thank you. well for the second time in the less than four months an innocent victim has been killed as a result of a police pursuit in oakland. the most recent

incident happened yesterday morning when a fleeing suspect crashed into a pickup truck driver of that truck was killed and investigation is now underway into whether officers updated dispatch with the suspect speed traffic conditions at the time and other risk factors. oakland's police chief said the suspect had brandished a gun in a road rage incident in that same car. three days earlier. our policy does allow officers to pursue a vehicle that is involved in a violent felony or has a firearm involved. the suspect, 23 year old jonathan hernandez, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, evading and being a felon in possession of a gun. the oakland city council approved an agreement to continue the police departments use of automatic license plate readers. the compromise plan will allow opd to store license plate data for six months. it also requires quarterly reports to ensure the city is in compliance with local and state law. supporters say putting more

license plate readers on the streets could serve as a deterrent and help solve crimes. while critics have raised privacy concerns more than 25 years after the disappearance of kristin smart, a former classmate has been found guilty of her murder. a jury in salinas today found 45 year old paul flores guilty of killing smart when they were both students at cal poly in 1996. investigators said he tried to rape the 19 year old then killed her after taking her back to her dorm following a party. her father spoke out today, saying there was no joy in the verdict. this has been agonizingly long journey with more downs than ups. but we are grateful and appreciate the diligence and energy of the two juries to thoroughly review the facts. and reach their decisions. a second jury acquitted floors as father 81 year old ruben flores of being an accessory to the murder

. prosecutors argued that ruben flores helped to hide smarts. body blood was found underneath his deck, but it was too degraded to provide a dna sample smarts remains have never been found. this case is not over. this case will not. be over until kristen is returned home. paul flores is attorney declined to comment today. sentencing is set for december. 9th floor is faces 25 years to life in prison . you attend a federal grand jury has issued new indictment in the deadly fire on a dive boat off the coast of santa barbara. this indictment alleges that captain jerry boylan acted with gross negligence in connection with the fire in september of 2019. 34 people were killed when they were trapped below deck. a judge threw out the original case last month. the families of some of the victims praised the new charge. boiling faces 10 years in prison if convicted. coming up the candidates for san francisco district attorney taking the stage tonight the

to the job based moderate and progressive candidates, including john hamasaki, who was endorsed by the democratic party . ktvu s jana katsuyama live now in the newsroom with the issues they debated tonight, janna julie. this was really a battle between jenkins, who has taken a very hard line on crime and criticized the previous d. a's office and other candidates who say that she isn't doing enough and there is a need for more reform efforts for candidates for san francisco's district attorney job faced hundreds of people at the forum sponsored by the league of women, voters and university of san francisco. they explained why they want the job and answered questions about what they would do to address the city's drug problems. interim district attorney brooke jenkins pointed to her eight year years with the prosecutor's office and says she's running to

bring accountability to criminals. what i know is that the da's office effectively decriminalized the sale of drugs over the last 2.5 years. i did come in and take a tougher approach because we need a tougher approach that should they be connected to selling fentanyl to somebody that overdoses that they could be charged with murder because we have to hold these people accountable. joel liotta veronese, a civil rights attorney and former law enforcement officer, criticized jenkins, saying she's focusing too much on politics and not enough on action. the day i get sworn in those investigators that are driving this district attorney around will go back to work. they'll go back on the street, and they will make fentanyl arrests on that day. attorney john hamasaki, a former police commissioner, pointed to his endorsement by the democratic party, saying the system needs reform. not just arrests. tried that all it does is bring out more dealers and more dealers now fighting for turf. we have to address the demand side of it. the man's side of it means getting treatment for users mauritian

yet san francisco native and attorney says he will take a hard line. one of my biggest things i'll do is block access. i'll put both users and dealers in jail. if you don't shape up, you gotta ship out. the candidates agreed on support for the card program that helps police provide services on calls to homeless people and in innocence commission to review cases, but there were differences on whether to treat 16 and 17 year olds as adults. jenkins and shenyang taking a harder line than hamasaki, or ah, liotta over knees. there also was conflict over how to deal with hate crimes. this current d a. hasn't charged the hate crime yet. what message is that? sending we have an ethical obligation not to charge something that we can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt. i spent 2.5 years in this city as the designated hate crimes prosecutor and i tell you it's one of the hardest things to prove, because it's one of the only crimes that requires proof of motive we for too long have treated are victims is just, um , you know they're another

passed by the board in july, but she is expected to support this particular plan. the city of antioch has now joined other east bay cities in enacting rent control. mayor lamar thorpe signed the ordinance this morning at the casa blanca apartment and now joins richmond and oakland, among others, to cap annual rent increases. advocates say the long awaited measure will help keep tenants in their homes, especially low income residents. i know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck. as our city governments continue to worry about their budgets while we worry about how we're gonna pay our rent and feed our children while they use our tax dollars to not support us. we're going to the antioch measure caps annual rent increases at 3% and it is retroactive to august 23rd so thankful for all the tenants who mobilized and marched countless hours. many city council meetings that we've attended, and all of this

formally with three counts of murder. wesley brownlee made his first court appearance this afternoon after his arrest over the weekend. prosecutors charged brownlee with the three most recent killings in stockton, saying more charges are likely. police say brownlee killed six men and injured one woman. all of the victims were in stockton , except one man who was fatally shot in oakland. today we learned what type of gun police say was bound during brownlee's arrest. defendant was apprehended by the stockton police department and was found to have a firearm. that firearm is commonly known as a ghost gun. the san joaquin county district attorney says information on the additional murder charges will be forthcoming. we can simply cannot protect our communities without support from our community. and we are grateful to everyone who provided tips that led to this arrest and now the prosecution. brownlee did

not enter a plea today and is scheduled to return to court on november. 14th was shot and killed early this morning in san francisco's tenderloin district that's happened just after midnight in the 900 block of market street officers say they responded to a shot spotter activation and found a man in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. the victim was pronounced dead there at the scene. police said the shooter was last seen heading east on turk right toward mason. description of the gunman has not been released. prosecutors formally charged demand following a hit and run crash that killed a woman in walnut creek. earlier this month. the contra costa county district attorney's office has charged 29 year old marquez ramirez with two felony counts. he's accused of hitting 44 year old tweet tweet lee on october 1st. she was walking in a crosswalk california boulevard and civic drive after leaving work from her nail salon. prosecutors believe marc marquez ramirez was intoxicated while driving and left the scene of the crime. he

remains in jail on $300,000 bail . woman's body was found burned along a trail in antiochus late today, police release photos of some jewelry that they hope will help identify her views. cristina rendon reports the woman's killing has shaken neighbors. neighbors say meow calumny trail in antiochus has seen its share of small fires mostly started by a housed people. but monday morning, firefighters put out a fire and found a woman's burned body. it's just horrific neighbors like this woman named miriam, tell us people are afraid to let their children outside. it sounds like something out of like a movie. never ever. thought i'd hear about anything like that, like, you know, a few 100 ft. away from me. police say the woman died before she was found by firefighters just off the paved trail north of lopez drive between gentry town and loosenwa around 5 30 am due to severe burns. police are having difficulty identifying

her, but they released these photos of jewelry she was wearing in hopes the public can help. e was wearing a ring on her right ring finger and a metal necklace with the letter. her k on it. police described the woman as african american under 30 years old, about five ft six inches with three missing left lower molars and a distinctive gap between her two front teeth. there was yellow taped blocking off that entrance and entrance here. a neighbor who did not want to be identified, tells me police officers knocked on her door asking about the area. they showed her family a lineup of women's pictures to try and figure out who the victim was. my kids are scared. i'm like not too scared because there's this is just a lot of homeless activity here, so i'm kind of used to it with little information from police. people are left concerned about this being a potential crime. she wasn't burned alive. you know, and i hope that whoever did this , um gets you know, justice.

neighbors say they have complained to police about fires over the years along the trail, but we're told that the city can't do much because it's maintained by east bay mud in any other. cristina rendon ktvu, fox two news registered nurses at sutter, alta bates medical center in oakland and berkeley may soon go on strike. the union issued a notice to the hospital. the nurses plan to hold a five day strike next week. the nurses say the hospital has not addressed what they call persistent patient care issues, including workplace violence and high turnover, as her spokesperson says they've had a number of bargaining sessions and believe the best way to reach a fair deal is to stay at the negotiating table. the 10 week long strike involving northern california. kaiser mental health workers may soon be over the national union of healthcare workers and kaiser permanente have released a joint statement saying both sides have come to a tentative agreement. terms of the deal have not been released a two day voting period involving the nearly 2000 kaiser
