headlines happening today. a big meeting in the vado between school officials at linwood elementary school and law enforcement agencies about safety measures and concerns after two teenagers with stabbed on the school campus after hours, one stabbing victims still in the hospital in critical condition. ktvu s. brooks jarocz says some parents told him the lack of security cameras raises big questions about several other safety improvements that still have not been made. right now. safety and security are top of mind for parents, said linwood elementary school in novato, perhaps adding cameras and just beefing it up all around. we really need it, police saying after school stabbing monday night has a 16 year old in critical condition of 17 year old was also hurt what played out on campus is under investigation, and that has raised questions about school security measures. i don't believe we actually have video cameras of the district could do some camera work. that

would be fantastic, for sure. but records show that was always part of the facilities plan dating back to 2016 safety and security are on the school's priority list. the community asked for cameras along with lighting, fencing, a p a system and better alarms. six years later, little progress, the same requests and complaints. there's been freaking and stroke. look into the bathrooms on a constant basis. there's been windows broken from the library to the kindergarten play yard, nevado police tell me they've had a handful of calls this year for juvenile disturbances in minor theft, but nothing out of the ordinary. still investigators say they advocate for school cameras to help solve crimes. district documents list more than $1 million plan for linwood security system but it's unclear if any of that money has ever been spent. marin county superintendent mary jane burke says in this stabbing incident surveillance would not have changed. the outcome are a law enforcement was available and at

student during a search of his backpack. they found a loaded gun with an extended magazine. that student is underage, so not much personal information is being released, but we do know he was taken to solano county juvenile hall. our time is 4053 people have been arrested in berkeley in connection with the deadly shooting on october 8th near the u. c. berkeley campus, where one person was killed and three others were hurt. berkeley police say that andy gutierrez rib below and michael monroy ramos now face charges of murder and attempted murder and a third person, jessica monroy, is facing charges of being an accessory. the 29 year old the lima tapa was shot and killed october 8th at telegram. captain durant, just south of the uc campus, and after that shooting , uc berkeley hired private security guards for some of the nearby dormitories. just 12 days to go until election day. two candidates for oakland mayor are working together to promote a ranked choice partnership.

mayoral candidates lauren taylor and treva read are asking voters to choose them as their 1st and 2nd choices. ranked choice voting, also known as instant runoff. voting requires voters to rank candidates in order of preference. both candidates say they are the best prepared to become mayor because they represent communities in oakland that have been disproportionately affected by gun violence, homelessness and lack of economic opportunity. these are the two most qualified leaders to lead us in the right direction. yeah, three facts. period. whether you're transgender gay woman lesbian it doesn't matter who you are. asian latino rich poor. on the streets, returning citizens black white. it doesn't matter. we agree on these three things. and we have united when you unite you ignite. there are 10 candidates running for the mayor seat in the november 8th election. now mayoral candidate

entrance at twitter's headquarters in san francisco and addressed concerns about possible cuts to the staff. elon musk posted a video of himself in san francisco wednesday with a line entering twitter headquarters. let that sink in, and there he was literally carrying a sink. this comes after months of declaring his intention to buy the social media company, then trying to back out and finally a battle in the courts as twitter's board sued to prevent him from reneging on the deal, musk signaled his intentions wednesday, renaming his twitter account title as chief twit. he posted another tweet at 2 39. pm in a lot of cool people at twitter today. and tweets from twitter employees popped up through the day showing musk at the office. musk reportedly told staff that any notion he would cut 75% of the employees is not true. the court in delaware gave musk a friday deadline to close the $44 billion deal, and musk has reportedly begun having banks process $13 billion of his

earnings on 23 men now face up to 20 years in prison after being convicted in a plot to kidnap michigan governor gretchen whitmer, michigan jury found them guilty of providing material support for a terrorist act as members of a militia group called the wolverine watchmen. now they were also convicted of gun crimes and membership in a gang. prosecutors say the plot grew out of hostility over restrictions that whitmer imposed during the covid 19 pandemic. our time now for 23, a federal judge in arizona hopes to decide by tomorrow whether to order election watchers in the phoenix area to stop monitoring outdoor ballot drop boxes after some of the voters complained they felt intimidated members of a group called clean elections usa have been gathering near drop boxes in maricopa county. taking photos and videos of voters as well as the license plates on their cars. some of them were tactical gear and carry weapons voters who say

start. at 4 31. let's go back to the headlines. thank you, sal. today. two men are expected in court charged in connection with the death of a woman who has burned body was found on a hiking trail in antioch 32 year old ashton montalvo and 39 year old d'angelo boone each face a two count two felony counts. the body of 25 year old makayla sharman was found 10 days ago. on the trail near gentry town drive. police say the circumstances of her death are still under investigation. time now for 32. the chp wants your help. they want to identify a hidden run driver who's seriously injured a six year old boy tuesday night in castro valley. it happened on new year's avenue near castro valley elementary school. the little boy was released from the hospital yesterday. his family says he's doing well now. surveillance video is blurry, but investigators say they can make out the moment that white suv he turned off castro valley boulevard onto nunez avenue and

immediately hit that little boy . but police say the video shows the moment where the driver appears to touch the brakes before. keeping going going down the street. if you are involved in a crash makes things so much easier if you just stop take responsibility for actions and come forward and work with police. if you leave the scene of the crash, whether it's a minor injury or a major injury constitutes a felony. because it's so hard to see many of the details in this video. the chp hopes community members may be able to help them identify that as uv they say, it's white. it's possibly a nissan or ford. it may have damage to the front end on the right side. investigators say they want to hear the driver's side of this story, too. they're asking people in the area or for any other business or home surveillance video that may show that collision. developing news san jose police are investigating the circumstances that led to a

woman being stabbed last night. officers were called to daffodil way near boynton high school in west san jose, where they found the woman suffering life threatening stab wounds. so far , police have not released any other information about a suspect or a motive. time is now. 4 34. police say a woman suspected of murdering her five year old son and dumping his body in indiana. maybe here in the bay area. now state police from indiana, asking the public to help find 37 year old juan ludie anderson. she's the mother of five year old cairo, jordan's whose body was found stopped in a suitcase. it was abandoned in a rural area in indiana last april. investigators say they believe anderson was traveling to san francisco, los angeles, san diego, las vegas and houston . since that child died, another woman whose fingerprints were found on the plastic wrap. was arrested last week in san francisco. californians with student loan debt are being urged to take advantage of

federal resources for debt relief. us senator alex padilla held a virtual briefing with student loan holders to discuss the biden administration, student debt relief plan and its impacts on californians. senator padilla is encouraging people to apply for that debt relief despite legal challenges to the plan and the federal appeals court. between the courts and us , uh the application process remains open and the federal government is still actively receiving and reviewing applications. you've heard from the court. you heard it from the president. you hear from the secretary of education, and you're hearing it from me. the program is to open to receiving applications. eligible borrowers with federal student loans can apply now by filling out an online application at student aid dot gov. 4 35. state officials say they want to protect tenants and homeowners who are facing water and utility shut offs. and since the beginning of the year, water

the golden gate national recreation area includes alcatraz, of course, also crissy field, the presidio stinson beach in the marin headlands alcatraz here behind us. a couple of hours from now, dozens of volunteers will be heading over to the island and they will do some volunteer work as part of this celebration marking 50 years since the golden gate national recreation area was great, and so volunteers will be going to the island to help clean up. and restore some of the gardens there throughout the day. there are other volunteer events planned to clean up and restore parts of the presidio, as well as another lesser known part of the gm. nra called the black point gardens of these volunteer events happened from eight in the morning until nine o'clock tonight. again it's to commemorate 50 years since the golden gate national recreation area was first created back in 1972, then president nixon signed legislation establishing it as a national park more than 15 million people a year. now visit the area. think of this place the golden gate national

about safety measures on school campuses after two teenage boys were stabbed at an elementary school earlier this week. ktvu is andre senior is here now, and one of those teenage boys are still in the hospital in critical condition. the victims are only identified as a 16 year old who still hospitalized that you just mentioned n a 17 year old. they say they were attacked by a group of teenagers. that stabbing happened monday night long after classes at linwood elementary were over. nevada police are still investigating what happened, but it has parents asking questions about security at the school. since may. there's been freaking and stroke into the bathrooms on a constant basis. there's been windows broken from the library to the kindergarten play yard cameras and just beefing it up all around. we really need it. so having video cameras at linwood elementary was part of the school security facility planned long ago. way back in 2016. the community has asked for cameras, lighting, fencing, better alarms and of public

we're having a lot happening in the morning commute right now, sal, what's the latest? what's going on? well, we have to go to pleasant hill, dave and pam right now. southbound 6 88 treat there's a crash blocking several lanes and pretty soon this backup is going to be up into 2 42. in fact. it already is. it's going to merge with that highway for backup, so it's worth knowing that this is not a typical morning for you. if you're driving from concord to walnut creek, you're used to slow traffic, but this morning, it's going to be extra slow highway. 24 also looks pretty slow, but it does look a little bit more normal. and at the bay bridge. we have the normal slowdown check in on that same mateo bridge, which is also pretty crowded heading out to the peninsula. remember we've been following that crash northbound to 88 highway 17 a little surprised it has not become worse. but the volume in san jose usually doesn't get busier until at least 7 30. so maybe we got a little bit of a break, but they're clearing the crash now and hopefully it won't
