that means the fog. want to get some help and it got some help. can plunge temperatures. and that's what happened. anywhere from 1522 i saw 23 to 24. for some the low came right down the coast replacing another low which was off of baja and went right into arizona and gave them rain, rare june rain for them. and there it is. you can see our low spinning off the coast. that's what cranked up the breeze, gave us the onshore wind as well, and also got rid of the hot temperatures. pretty impressive though for arizona. some pretty, you know, for june 1st and second. usually they're not talking about that. we get the low clouds a pretty good fog but not a roaring onshore breeze. i think it will pick up later today. but 40s 50s mainly 50s on the temps are upper 40s 51 down in boulder creek. felton 5150s mid 50s saratoga also 51 santa cruz at 54, gilroy says so are we 37 truckee 40. south lake tahoe, 46 in reno and 46 up in outdoors. and there it is. you can see the circulation that low tapped into what was once a tropical system, came right up

the coast, tapped into it and has brought rain. you can see for some first time, i believe, measurable rain in phoenix in 111 years on june 1st, i do believe, and our system will give us continuation of what we have today. will take us probably into wednesday or thursday. so back to stratus quo. sunny away from the coast, cool to mild to warm. there will be an afternoon breeze. 60s, 70s, 80s. really not much change. maybe a little warmer towards the end of the week, but until then it's what you see is what you get. and that's 60, 70s and 80s. >> all right. thank you steve. more than 2000 bike riders have left the bay area for the last ever aids life cycle ride to los angeles. they left the cow palace in daly city yesterday morning for the seven day fundraising trip. for the past 30 years, thousands of people have signed up for that 545 mile bike ride from the bay area down to southern california. the goal has been to raise money and awareness for aids testing, prevention and medical care. >> san francisco has such a legacy of eradicating hiv and

you here on mornings on two. the san francisco giants are back home to begin a four game series against the san diego padres at oracle park tonight. the giants ended their nine game road trip with a 4 to 2 victory over the marlins in miami yesterday. san francisco's big hit came in the third inning, when luis matos hit a three run homer that followed several road games when the giants struggled on offense. >> it was huge. i mean, the way we've been scoring runs, it felt like a 20 run homer at the time. obviously, we had to grind it at the end and be nice not to have to play that game every day, but a huge swing for a guy that works really hard every day, doesn't get to play a whole lot. numbers get gets called on a day like this when we're not scoring any runs and has the biggest swing of the game. >> the giants begin their homestand one game behind the padres, two games behind the

they've ever had on june 1st, going back 111 years. pretty impressive there for us. it's fog bank that kicked in. so the morning fog has arrived. it will peel back to the coast. i think you know the drill by now. but a little bit of june gloom out there that didn't take long. 6070 on most of the temps will go soft. 80 in livermore. all right. south here. i think we have to head right away to san mateo. >> yeah. there's an overturn. trash truck, steve. right here in san mateo. right at 92, 101. and it is blocking lanes. here, let me get rid of the icon just so i could see better what's going on? it's right there at that interchange, and it's affecting southbound 101. it's affecting eastbound 92 to southbound 101 so far, westbound 82 to northbound 101, which is one of the commute directions, is not affected. however, we do have a truck that's overturned and has part of the garbage that it was carrying all over the road, so we're going to keep looking at that. i want to show

you that westbound 580 has cleared up in livermore. we still have the slow traffic in tracy, and highway four is slow as well. so this is a typical monday. bay bridge backed up all the way out to the maze. 632 let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. thank you so much, sal. today marks the start of fire season in one north bay town santa rosa fire department making that official declaration today. ktvu jesse gary is live in marin county this morning on what this means for residents. good morning to you, jesse andre. >> good morning to you. we've completed our trek all the way up here to santa rosa in sonoma county. fire officials here hoping this official declaration of the start of fire season today will help residents be better prepared for what lies ahead. let's take a look at our video this morning. in addition to the hot weather that we saw just at the end of last week, there's been a significant amount of rainfall during the winter and spring. remember, it rained last week while we were over at oakland international airport? couple that with the
6:34 am
growth of vegetation, which is drying out as we move more into our routine summer pattern and the fire risk grows, cal fire officials saying this is the time of year when they actually add seasonal firefighters. >> precipitation, and then no precipitation kind of leads the charge on when we're going to start up staffing our crews and then also the activity throughout the units and throughout the region and throughout the state, is kind of when we start looking at it and then we start bringing the seasonal employees back on. >> officials with the santa rosa fire department say they'll begin annual weed abatement inspections of residential properties in the city or within the wildland urban interface in vacant lots, and develop properties with at least a half acre of unimproved land. owners are required to cut vegetation and weeds longer than four inches in height. conditions yesterday in the south bay sparked a 20 acre grass fire near san jose international airport. gusty winds pushed the

flames, which threatened a nearby rv encampment. it prompted some evacuations. so here in the north bay today, the official start in santa rosa of fire season, crews are going to be out talking to homeowners about doing abatement to make sure their properties are safe, and also obviously make sure your neighbor's property is safe as well. we're live in santa rosa. jesse gary, ktvu, fox two news. andrea. andre. pamela, we'll head back to you down in oakland. >> all right. thank you. jesse. montara state beach is closed this morning after a surfer came face to face with a shark. california state park officials say it happened at 2:00 saturday afternoon, about 100 yards off shore. the surfer says he was sitting on his board when he felt something swim by his foot, knocking him off his board. then he says he saw the face of the shark. he hopped back on his board to paddle to shore, and that's when he found a bite mark on his surfboard.
6:36 am
>> now i'm good. once i was out of the water, i was. i felt better. it felt like i. i couldn't paddle fast enough. it felt like i'm like i'm in slow motion. while i was trying to get away, i was like, man, this shark will be so much faster than me. if he really wants to get me. >> the surfer was physically fine, just shaken up. lifeguards, cleared the water, closed the beach. that closure is in effect until 2:00 this afternoon. residents in an apartment building in santa clara say living there is making them sick. now the agrihood sustainable community near santana row in the westfield mall. older residents there say that they've experienced breathing problems, headaches and other health issues. many say it has become so bad that they had to go to the hospital. some say they report they were exposed. there were exposed walls where a fire started last year and unfinished repairs. the building's ownership has not commented on the issue publicly. >> well, oakland's free summer meals program for kids is

think you need to go to iceland. >> i looked. >> it up. really? >> we had another coworker that went to alaska, i think a year or two ago to see. >> it up there. >> that's another good spot. >> but i still want to go iceland though. >> yeah, me too, but. >> you have to go to a certain time of year to go check it out. in the meantime, our bright shining light is here in the traffic center. >> sal castaneda unfortunately has a problem to talk about. >> yeah. >> yeah, i put the arrow on it. okay. andre and pam, it's 92, eastbound 92 to southbound 101. you should avoid that area. also, southbound 101 92. there's a garbage truck that's overturned on one of the on ramps there, but it's affecting 101. it's affecting eastbound 92 for now. it is not really affecting westbound 92 coming off the san mateo bridge onto northbound 101. but still, if you're driving south on 101, you're going to see a backup there. as you pass the 92 interchange, you may just want to use 280 instead. and it's an overturned garbage truck. no one was hurt. however, this garbage all over the place as part of
6:39 am
the trailer overturned. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see that traffic here. triple a traffic camera showing us a backup all the way out to the maze, and the metering lights are on. 638 let's bring steve back with today's weather. >> so thank you kindly, sir. we'll start in the city today. 6253 after yesterday's 60 average. 6652. the records go pretty far back here. record high 9319 1247 and 1900. 1.34 fell on this date. june 2nd and 1967. i should add for san francisco in may, the average high low was 57.8. what's normal? 57.8. how about that? i mean, right on the money. water temps continue to be on the chilly side. point has been bouncing between 49 and 50. san francisco, half moon bay. point arena to the north. all low 50s monterey. one of the monterey buoys has come up a little bit. we talked about a low coming down the coast. that's exactly what it did that turned the high
6:40 am
pressure system, kicked it out of here and turned on the onshore breeze. you can see that low right there on the water vapor. impressive. low. tapped into moisture. brought thunderstorms. parts of southern california, also in the central sierra. but no doubt arizona. phoenix picked up a quarter inch of rain. the most rain they've ever had on june 1st. and they're still getting some. this morning there was a near surprise. arizona. they had an inch and a quarter. that's impressive. i mean, that's a lot of rain. that was the remains of a tropical system. so our wind speeds have come down. i think they'll pick up a little later today. pretty good fog bank out there. 40s, 50s on the temps 51. boulder creek, 53. hollister 53 campbell east san jose 51. a little warmer there. so cal, i don't know about that. i think it's 57, not 67, but i'll check it. 37 truckee to 40, in south lake tahoe. that's the system that brought some activity near san diego and las vegas as well. but our system will give us a cool down. it's kind of settled in right there, and i don't think things are changing. so back to stratus quo here. sunny away from the coast, cool to
6:41 am
mild to warm. there will be an afternoon breeze, no doubt. 60, 70. so we had kind of this pattern here with these lows dropped in in april. we had them in may. and i think they'll continue into june. so i don't buy the above normal projections that some are saying for june. i think it will be close to normal. and of course you can get heat. doesn't take long, but have you noticed it's been out 1 or 2 days so far and then it's gone. and i think that will continue. so looks pretty quiet here towards the end of the week i think we'll get a little warm up. >> thank you steve. [music] >> well, thousands of people flocking to napa for the second annual unda music festival. the last-minute setback that hit one group ahead of its scheduled performance, and the response from people who attended. >> there's a new way for you to take mornings on two with you wherever you go. you can now get headlines on two as a podcast. you can get dollars and cents. as a podcast, you can get andre seniors. >> on the record. >> on the record. great discussions there. you find the latest episodes wherever you get

lowest level in seven years. real estate company redfin found the cost of owning a second home has soared. at the same time, many u.s. cities are cracking down on those short-term rentals. the same study found fewer companies are now allowing their employees to work from home. remote work created a boom in vacation home sales and rentals during the pandemic. >> all right, let's get a check on the roads right now. sal has been tracking a trouble spot for us at 650 this morning. sal. >> that's right. we do have a trouble spot in san mateo. that's westbound 92. as you get off the bridge and do this. all right? you're going south, and that ramp is blocked with an overturned garbage truck. at least the part of the truck that was carrying the load flipped over. and that's also affecting people going eastbound 92 to southbound 101, not because lanes are blocked, but because people are slowing to take a look. so that whole thing. it's also affecting people coming south out of burlingame. people

are slowing down at 92. i would just avoid this interchange. if you could use 280 or get on the freeway after get on the freeway at hillsdale. whatever you do, just avoid that interchange and it's going to take a while to clean this, according to caltrans. they still have to get equipment in there and it's delayed. let's talk about the east bay commute. we have a lot of slowing already. 880 hayward and union city and fremont southbound. 680 is slow and we have some slowing on vallecitos road approaching the 680 interchange. if you're going to the bay bridge, by the way, highway four is slow from pittsburgh to bay point. if you're going to the bay bridge, it is backed up to the maze. 651 let's talk to steve now. steve, i met someone at a fundraiser because i go to fundraiser just like dave. dave clark does. so i want to say happy birthday to tiffany, who i met at a fundraiser. we do a lot of these fundraiser things. >> and she watches you all the time. >> not only she watches us, she's been watching us for like,
