yes, sir. we do have to start with a problem. on 580 eastbound livermore valley. this is the second or third day. we've had something going on there. eastbound, 588 isabel. there was a crash at about 240 this morning, and at one point, all the lanes were blocked. now you can get through, but there are some lanes closed. we're going to go live to the scene in just a moment to find out exactly what happened. there's a lot going on with this crash. we'll find out in just a moment. i do want to check in with the rest of. oops. went to the wrong button there. i want to check in with the rest of the commute here and go to the bay bridge. so everything is light. bay bridge. we're looking at it from the toll plaza camera, and you can see that camera looks pretty good. now at 501. let's go back to pam. >> all right. thank you sal. and we are following that breaking news this morning in livermore, where a big rig fire and deadly crash is blocking multiple lanes on 580 ktvu. james torres out there this morning. james. certainly we can see the

response behind you. what can you tell us this morning? >> yeah, we're on the eastbound side of 580 just outside livermore. this is just past airway boulevard, approaching isabel avenue. we'll first show you the traffic that's flowing right next to me here. two lanes of traffic are now going by, which means cars are getting by just perfectly fine. however, there's still an investigation and a mess left behind after a flurry of incidents in this area. here's what chp is telling us. first, it all started just before 3:00 this morning. a motorcycle crashed and then at some point, cars were swerving around the motorcycle, some even actually making contact with the motorcycle. at some point, three big rigs pulled over on the right hand shoulder. one of those big rigs catching fire, causing this area to be even more chaotic. chp reporting at least one person is dead as a result. here and now, at least four different lanes of traffic along 580 in the eastbound direction are still closed this morning. there is no estimated

time for when all that will reopen, but i will tell you, if you're coming out of tracy on the westbound side of 580, headed into parts of the east bay, you're not facing any trouble there. traffic is moving along just fine there. and on the east side where we are standing this morning, two lanes of traffic are open. that just happened about 10 to 15 minutes ago. so thankfully no backup at this point. traffic seems to be flowing along, moving along smoothly, but chp says they may still be here for a while as they work on cleaning up what's left behind here. we'll keep you updated on how soon until all these lanes open back up and traffic in this direction won't be a problem anymore. for now, we are live this morning near livermore. i'm james torres. we'll send it back to you in the studio. >> james. thank you. firefighters in fairfield are watching for hot spots this morning after a fast-moving fire came close to burning several homes. people have been allowed to go home after the fire forced evacuations yesterday afternoon near hillburn road. aircraft fought the fire from the sky

while tankers and crews on the ground worked to stop it from spreading. crews say high winds made that fire harder to get under control. a number of neighbors also sprung into action, spraying down their homes and properties. >> i just watered everything. everything down the fences, down anything. wood, furniture, you know, outside furniture, trees. you just never think it's going to happen. it's going to come over your way. so it just taught us a lesson on, like we've been saying, we need to kind of, you know, pack things and no go back. >> crews say some homes and cars have to be cleaned after fire retardant was dropped. >> a fire at a strip mall damaged some businesses in fremont last night. firefighters tell us it happened at paseo padre parkway near deep creek road near the border with union city. firefighters say most of the fire damage was in a nail shop, but some other businesses in the strip mall had some water damage from sprinklers. no one was hurt. firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.

>> firefighters in oakland put out several fires. one was a brush fire on 36th avenue, not far from interstate 880. we're told that fire started along the railroad tracks and spread into nearby backyards. no homes were damaged, but there was a separate fire at an rv at third and adeline that sent heavy smoke into the air and briefly threatened a commercial building. now, as we move deeper into fire season. be sure to download the free fox local mobile app to get breaking news updates right to your phone, tablet or smart tv. >> well, a 7-eleven in oakland that had been robbed multiple times over the last month was hit by thieves twice in one day. oakland police say the first robbery happened sunday morning. several people walked into the location on grand avenue and demanded cash from the register before taking off in a car. then later in the afternoon, police say two people seemed to be armed with a knife, came in, took cash and ran away. neighbors say it's a hot spot for break ins. the windows are

still boarded up from the last smash-and-grab. >> that's really heartbreaking. the guys who run this 7-eleven are really sweet. i feel awful for them. >> investigators say they don't believe the two incidents are related. back in april, when the same shop was broken into twice in 24 hours, the store clerk told us he was attacked by thieves, leading him to quit. >> a cold case. murder from almost 50 years ago has been solved. investigators say they now know who killed, stabbed and killed a san jose teacher in a school hallway in 1978. diane peterson was at branham high school the day after school had let out for the summer. a student actually saw peterson being attacked and heard her cry for help. that student was able to help police create a sketch of the suspect. years later, another witness told police that someone had confessed to him and showed him the alleged murder weapon.

>> and he showed me the knife that he used and mr. according to the witness, mr. nickerson carved the words teacher dear into the knife handle. >> the suspect named in the case, harry nickerson, died in 1993. he was never a student at branham, and the motive for the killing remains unknown. detectives at the time speculated the teacher may have stumbled upon a drug deal. >> time now is 507. the san francisco parks alliance is preparing to shut down amid city investigations into how it manages its finances. according to the san francisco chronicle, the nonprofit's board members voted last week to dissolve the organization. for years, it has helped improve the city's public spaces. recently, however, the parks alliance began facing complaints that it was not reimbursing community partners. the parks alliance is also accused of using millions in donations and restricted funding to pay its operating costs. >> there's concern that the federal government may not have the funding to help communities

this hurricane season. the agency says it will be able to handle this season despite hundreds of planned cuts. but some florida lawmakers say they're worried that uncertainty with fema could impact relief efforts. florida leaders say cuts by elon musk's department of government efficiency have already restricted resources for predicting storms. many federal scientists were laid off. >> the back and forth on whether fema should exist at all does not lend itself to having full confidence that they are going to be the partner on the ground that we saw in the aftermath of helena milton. >> communities in north carolina are still struggling to recover from hurricane helene last season, which made the state's housing crisis even worse. this year, researchers predict between 6 to 10 hurricanes to hit the u.s. from june to november. >> well, if you liked yesterday, you'll like today, and you'll probably like tomorrow and the day after and the day after. really, not much is changing.

the water vapor, though, shows you why we've cooled down that low went right by us. it's now visiting los angeles, and that opened the door to the sea breeze that opened the door to more fog. look at all the thunderstorm activity up in the central sierra, mainly around bridgeport and also bishop crowley lake, if you know that area. but what's interesting is that that low is replacing another low, which went right into arizona, tapped into moisture. a friend of mine lives in north scottsdale. he had an inch and 3/100. that's more rain than he had in december, january and february. how about that? that system is kicking out now. it's. but it was a heck of a rain producer in arizona and phoenix. phoenix already with their ninth wettest june. and it's only the third 50s in the mountains. that's oakland hills. that's at 1400 feet and 100% humidity. that's because we're in the fog and 50 degrees. interesting. we had a south wind yesterday. so you can see the dividing line here about san francisco bowie south. they went up 57 5556 point raise north. they're still cold 50 low 50s. i

and apparel voucher, and improved workplace policies. the union of about 1500 employees, including bus operators and mechanics, went on strike for two weeks in march, shutting down transit in san jose. >> a new report is shedding light on what may have attributed to a fire at the martinez refinery back in february. the report says there weren't enough workers and not enough training for those workers at the time of the fire. the fire ignited during maintenance and would go on to burn for three days. that report will be presented to contra costa health's oversight committee later today. >> the richmond san rafael bridge is back open this morning, but that's following a traffic nightmare throughout the evening commute. the bridge had to be shut down when crews discovered concrete on the upper deck starting to crumble. now, while some lanes were later partially reopened, the traffic impact was felt for hours. the fbi now says the suspect in the attack in boulder, colorado, that injured at least 12 people has confessed to federal

authorities. mohammed suleiman appeared in a court hearing virtually. he's facing both state and federal hate crime and attempted murder charges. prosecutors allege suleiman told investigators that he used molotov cocktails in the attack because he was not legally able to buy a gun. he also said he specifically wanted to target zionists and planned the attack for more than a year. >> when he was interviewed about the attack, he said he wanted them all to die. he had no regrets and he would go back and do it again. >> at this time, prosecutors believe the suspect acted alone. his bond is set at $10 million. >> israel is denying accusations its troops attacked an aid distribution site over the weekend. medical organizations, including the red cross, say more than 170 people were hurt and more than 20 people were killed in sunday's attack. israel is denying its troops fired at any civilians. the u.n. secretary general has now called

for an independent investigation into the incident. >> we're now hearing from several bay area arts organizations that have suddenly lost federal funding, putting some of their programs at risk. one of those affected is the san francisco gay men's chorus. the national endowment of arts recently ended their $38,000 grant right at the start of pride month. in a statement, the nea said it is focusing on funding projects that reflect, quote, the nation's rich artistic heritage as prioritized by the president, and said the gay men's chorus does not align with those priorities. >> rage. anger. like someone is trying to minimize you, tell you your stories don't matter. and that is not a new thing for the lgbtq plus community. >> sfjazz also had a 30,000 nea grant canceled. the two organizations say they now have to rely more heavily on community donations to keep

their programs going. >> all right. coming up at 517 right now, steve paulson in the weather center tracking the forecast for us. >> i'm not tracking much, to be honest. it's okay. it's a really quiet pattern for june. some of the projections were, oh, it's going to be hot this month. and i'm like, really? i don't see it. i just don't unless something really changes. everything is saying near-normal to below all the way out to the 15th and the 18th. these lows see these low going down the coast. this has been the pattern pretty much since march. now once you get to end of may and june, they're weaker and they're farther apart in timing and distance. but i mean, the forecast models are remarkably in sync and showing more of these coming into june. so i disagree with others who say june is going to be hot. now, again, if you're in lake county, that's a whole different forecast. but for the local forecast right here, there's plenty of low clouds. the water temps continue to be pretty cold. and travis with a west southwest to 31 that is turbocharged. they're done. i

mean they're not maybe low 80s at best unless the wind collapses and i don't think it will. i have a friend who lives in cordele and he said, it's howling out here and i believe it 50s on the temps here. everyone's kind of stuck here. east bay temps also. i mean, talk about stuck. look at the 54, 55, 56 across the board here. everyone's really close. isothermal is what we call them. truckee south lake tahoe 40s. mammoth thunderstorms booming up around the central sierra yesterday. bridgeport. bishop. also around mammoth. there were big boomers up there yesterday. see if this forecast this satellite shows it. now i have to put it in there. but anyway keeping that in place though look at that. a lot of activity up in the mountains. this is going forward over about the next six days. so any travel plans to the mountains? this is almost like an end of july august pattern here showing a lot of thunderstorm activity. usually june's not that active, but that's the way it's looking. we are in a stuck pattern. one of my rules of thumb and weather is stuck. patterns tend to stay stuck. guess what? we're stuck. so morning low clouds giving way

shows it could also help the body age more slowly. now, a new study revealing that taking vitamin d supplements may protect against certain biological aging process. help us as we grow older. so fox medical teams doctor mike. joining us now doctor mike this sounds great. slowing down the aging process. how does vitamin d help us do that? >> well it all starts with the chromosomes. and i brought a little diagram because what they talk about here are these little guys here. they're called telomeres. they are responsible for protecting the chromosome every time it divides. and every time it divides, those telomeres get a little shorter. and the theory is that as time goes by, they get to the point where they are so short, the cell dies and

that's it. so if vitamin d in fact does reduce that shortening, then we could be on to something big here. and i think vitamin d already has benefits, including reduction in inflammation, bone health. also there are studies showing that if you're pre-diabetic, it may help reduce your risk of becoming diabetic. it goes on and on and on, even cancer patients. so there there is something biological going on here with vitamin d, and that's why i check it on every single patient in my practice. every single one. >> yeah, it's very interesting. my doctor, my primary care physician, about 3 or 4 years ago said, oh, you need to be taking vitamin d, you know? she said, it's great for a lot of things, you know. and so i took vitamin d is sun. you know, we always say, go out and get your vitamin d, get out in the sun, get outside food. are there ways that we can get enough of it? or

should we also be taking a supplement? >> hard to get it from food. and if you go out and the natural way to get vitamin d is from sunlight, well, you do that enough, then you'll get a skin cancer. so we've been very good at telling people to use sunscreen and all of that. most people, especially where i'm at, you know, we're far away from the equator. most of my patients are vitamin d deficient. now, how much do you take? well, i'm kind of a science kind of guy. and so i do a blood test. and you want to be careful because if you take too much vitamin d, it's what we call fat soluble. can cause injury to the liver. so you want to make sure that you're taking not too little and not too much, just the right amount. >> oh, that's a really important point to make because i know there's things like vitamin a, you can get too much of. vitamin c just flushes out of your body. so not a problem. so you're

recommending a blood test to see how much you should take before just going to the drugstore and grabbing some vitamin d. >> if you don't have access to the blood test, some would say just take. probably not going to get in trouble with 1000 units or 25 micrograms a day. okay, that's that's the traditional amount that i tell my patients to take. but in america, some people believe that more is better. and they'll take 10,000 units, 5000 units. and that may be too much. and i do have people who have gotten into toxic levels with vitamin d, so you just have to be careful with that. but i am a believer that vitamin d is a good thing and very important for not only bone health and reduction in inflammation, but possibly longevity. >> okay. great information, doctor. mike, thank you so much.

morning, but that is following a traffic nightmare throughout the evening commute. this was the look from sky fox, where drivers heading to the east bay from marin county were stuck in that bumper to bumper traffic. the bridge had to be shut down when crews discovered concrete on the upper deck started to crumble, while some lanes were later partially reopened, the traffic impact was felt for hours. one driver we spoke to said the delays added more than an hour to his commute. >> for about an hour and 20 minutes. so it's, you know, it's quite a bit. i usually it takes me an hour to get home to santa rosa. now it's going to be like a three hour delay. so we just got to bear with it. >> caltrans says they will continue to monitor the upper deck this week for any other problems. crews have reopened an off ramp along interstate 880 in san jose after fixing a large sinkhole. the sinkhole opened up

in the northbound direction of the freeway, shutting down the alameda exit yesterday and impacting traffic. the highway patrol and caltrans was able to get the road back open overnight. >> the man convicted in a deadly street racing crash that killed two people on the peninsula has died in jail due to a combination of prescription drugs. the san mateo county sheriff's office says kyle harrison was found unresponsive in a cell on saturday. the coroner's office now says a 25 year old died due to, quote, toxic effects of methadone and two other drugs. harrison was serving an eight year prison sentence for the crash that killed a redwood city couple. >> we're hearing from the attorney of the suspect charged in the crash that killed an oakland teacher last week. 18 year old eric hernandez torres was scheduled to graduate saturday from a rise high school in oakland, but instead he has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, evading police and hit and run. police say the vehicle torres was driving hit and killed a math teacher from castlemont high school following a chase.

>> he has an unformed brain, right? the studies show your brain is not fully formed as far as your reactivity and your ability to make decisions between right and wrong. >> authorities say hernandez also crashed into a minivan at east 21st street and park boulevard in oakland during a brief chase by chp. santa rosa man with a history of sex offenses is once again facing allegations, this time at sonoma state university. campus police say 50 year old greg nathan approached people on campus pretending to be a student. he offered foot massages to students, claiming it was for volunteer hours. he's accused of touching at least three people without their consent. nathan was arrested last week but has since been released. he's a registered sex offender with multiple prior convictions involving children. prosecutors have not yet filed formal charges. a small school district in west sonoma county is searching for a new

superintendent. according to the press, democrat matt dunkle is stepping away from his role at forestville union, that district that serves just over 200 students. the district has brought in a consulting firm to begin the search for a new superintendent. >> the co-founder of a local local cryptocurrency company is asking san francisco to approve a $9.4 million gift to benefit the police department. chris larson of ripple labs says the money would go to the department's real-time investigation center. now, the center uses surveillance technology, including cameras and license plate readers, to monitor crimes in progress, and the donation would include the purchase of 12 new drones for the police department. >> mill valley is updating its parking rules to try and accommodate new businesses and housing complexes. the rules date back over 45 years, and the planning commission is considering changes to adjust to the city's growth. right now, businesses have to provide 3 to

raised by reporters, insisting the president remains a sharp and capable as ever. >> starting today, travelers flying united airlines will need to arrive earlier for their flights. united customers will need to check in at least 45 minutes before departure time for domestic flights. the previous limit was 30 minutes. international passengers are required to check in an hour before their flight. travelers can still check in for their flights 24 hours in advance, either online on the united app or at an airport kiosk. a flight attendant on a flight from sfo to london was arrested after he was found dancing naked inside one of the plane's restrooms. this took place on a british airways flight last week. police reports say the flight attendant vanished during in-flight meal service. he was eventually found in a business class bathroom. staff had to dress and restrain the flight attendant for the rest of the ten hour flight. when the plane landed, he was taken into custody. police are still investigating what led up

to the incident. >> wildfires burning across canada are impacting air quality in the bay area. the smoke from these fires is being pushed by wind, leading to hazy conditions across parts of the u.s. the bay area air quality district says people may notice some hazy skies high up here in the bay area today. >> well, for this forecast, nothing but the bare facts, pamela. nothing but the bare facts. nice to mild to warm. the wind is a factor. there's already gusts to travis at 31mph. this is about as quiet of a pattern. honestly, i just don't buy into june being above or hot. everything i see shows a series of these lows continuing to drop in, not only with the one we had coming by, and now it's down off of southern california. but there's more on the way now in june. it doesn't take much to warm up. i mean, seriously, inland you can pop pretty fast, but i think we're

in near normal on this june to slightly below today. 60s coast 70s 60s 70s to low and a few mid 80s. that's one low. see that? a lot of thunderstorm activity up in the central sierra. that low is replacing the other low, which brought record rain to much of arizona. there were some whopper totals, 1 to 2 inch amounts, especially north of phoenix. quite quite interesting. they couldn't get a drop during the winter. and now here they are in early june, getting a lot of rain. 51 bodega bay marine lab, point reyes, 52. yet the san francisco boy, half moon bay and monterey boy went up because of a south wind. although i think that wind is turning more westerly now. but there's a lot of fog out there. the water temps to the north are really cold. there's travis 24 southwest, gusting to 31. that will get your attention. some of the bridges hang on a little bit. could be gusts about the same 30 3550s on the temps. i mean even on the peninsula, usually woodside i mean they're 52, but everyone else is pretty close here. pacifica 51 mid 50s, montara beach, pillar point in there, san mateo. so again,

at 10 p.m. tonight. union 82, 65 and vta have been at odds over a new contract since december of last year after negotiations stalled. roughly 1500 bus drivers and light rail operators walked off the job march 10th. that left roughly 100,000 daily riders stuck without a way to get around the south bay. on march 26th, a santa clara county superior court judge ruled the ongoing strike violated a no strike clause that was in effect during negotiations that forced striking workers back on the job, with bus service resuming march 28th and light rail service coming back online days later. vta officials say their offer is a pay increase of 14.5% percent, spread over four years. enhanced dental benefits and an appeal voucher for the workplace and an improved workplace policies. now, if this contract is approved and it takes a simple majority to do that, it would take effect june 9th, pending approval of the vta

deadly crash is renewing calls for safer streets in san francisco. the advocacy group walk sf says police told them a 67 year old pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver on sunday at geary boulevard and second avenue. it's the second senior pedestrian to be killed on geary this year, and the eighth citywide walk. sf says the city's vision zero traffic safety policy expires five months or expired five months ago, and there's been no replacement. they're urging the mayor to take action before more people are killed. oakland's free summer meals program for kids kicked off this week, despite concerns that might have to be canceled this year because of the city's budget issues, the program was able to return this year thanks to a partnership with eat, learn, play, the east bay community foundation and the alameda county food banks. the meals are available at dozens of sites across oakland to all children under 18. >> up to a third, that is, 33% of school children rely on free or reduced price meals during

motorcyclist somehow lost control of his motorcycle, fell off and ended up on the farthest right lanes of traffic here along the eastbound side of interstate 580. and then about ten minutes later, cars were passing through. keep in mind, it's pretty dark around that time. a big rig and another car separately hit the motorcycle, and then a big rig and a different car separately hit the driver of the motorcycle who was laying on the ground as well. we now know the driver of that motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene. two lanes of traffic at this point are now back open. we know that one of those big rigs that hit the motorcycle, you just saw the motorcycle get pulled out from under it. it was stuck under there for the time being. started a fire, you see what the fire looks like after the fact here. but now crews have two lanes of traffic open on the eastbound side. if you're driving on the westbound side of things here on 580, that's not

been a problem for you at all. all morning long coming out of tracy. but the eastbound side, that's really still moving. just a little bit slow here. you may notice you see a couple cars pulled over on the shoulder. those are some of the cars that hit either the motorcycle vehicle or the motorcyclists themselves. i talked to a couple of those drivers. they didn't want to talk to me on camera, but they tell me a little bit about their experience. and of course it was shocking. it was scary. they didn't know what they hit at first until they saw the flames coming out of this big, this big, big, big rig. i should say, a few moments after, then talk with chp. they eventually learned what actually happened here this morning. so we do know one person is dead. their body removed by the alameda county coroner's office. crews here cleaning up what's all left behind. they say they want to get the freeway back open within the next hour, and they're doing everything they can to make sure that happens before traffic in this area picks up a little later this morning. of course. we'll keep you posted. we'll let you know

us a lesson on, like we've been saying, we need to kind of, you know, pack things and no go bag. >> crews say some of the homes and cars will have to be cleaned after fire retardant was dropped in the area. >> well, flames raced through several businesses in fremont last night. firefighters tell us it happened at paseo padre parkway near deep creek road, near the border with union city. firefighters say most of the fire damage was in a nail salon, but some other businesses in that strip mall had some water damage from sprinklers. no one was hurt, and firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. >> firefighters in oakland had to put out several firefighters yesterday afternoon. one was a brush fire on 36th avenue, not far from interstate 880. we're told that it started along the railroad tracks. it spread into nearby backyards. no homes were damaged, but firefighters also responded to a separate r-v fire at third and adeline that sent

told us he was attacked by thieves, leading him to quit. the san francisco parks alliance is preparing to shut down amid city investigations into how it manages its finances. now, according to the san francisco chronicle, the nonprofit's board members voted last week to dissolve the organization. for years, it has helped improve the city's public spaces. but recently, the parks alliance began facing complaints that it was not reimbursing community partners. the park alliance is also accused of using millions in donations and restricted funding to pay its operating costs. >> the san francisco chronicle reports. traffic tickets are up nearly 50% over the first part of the year. half of the violations fall under five categories the department has been focusing on. we're talking about speeding, running red lights or stop signs, failing to yield while turning and failing to pedestrians failing to pedestrians in crosswalks. here, city leaders and safety advocates have been pressuring

bus operators and mechanics, went on strike for two weeks in march, shutting down transit in san jose. a report says there weren't enough workers and not enough training for workers at the martinez refinery. at the time of a fire in february. the fire ignited during maintenance and would go on to burn for three days. that report will be presented to contra costa health's oversight committee later today. the trump administration is telling california school districts to block trans athletes from competing in high school sports. in a letter, the department of justice says state laws violate the equal protection clause and discriminate against athletes on the basis of sex. this comes after a trans athlete won two events in the high school state track and field championship over the weekend. the california department of education says it is preparing a response for all school districts today. >> the fbi now says the suspect in the attack in boulder, colorado, that injured at least 12 people has confessed to

called for an independent investigation into the incident. >> a livermore woman says her husband was detained by federal immigration officials last week during a routine check in with authorities. rosa lopez is a u.s. citizen. her husband, miguel, was brought to the u.s. by his parents from mexico when he was 18, without documents. when they tried to get him a green card, he was rejected. he received a residence card in court, but then the government revoked it. since then, the couple has been fighting to get legal status for miguel so that he can stay with their three children and young grandchild. >> i know he's done everything the right way, paid his taxes, he's he's worked. he's had no problems with the police. like, yes, he made the mistake by crossing the border and claiming to be a us citizen. he was 18. i mean, what 18 year old knows, you know, and it's like he said, it wasn't my choice. i was brought here because my parents brought me, not because i decided to come.

francisco 64, the weather service said 65. i couldn't find anything over 64. so i go with what i see. i don't know what they see, but that's that's another story. nice to warm. no changes. the wind, though, is a factor. without a doubt. these lows keep spinning in. they keep coming in. i think they'll continue well into june. i do not buy that. june will be above now. again, you can get above pretty fast if you're inland here. it doesn't take much in june, but i just see a continuation of what we've had pretty much since march. so coast 60s, mainly bay 60s, 70s, inland 70s to mid 80s. one low after another comes in. you can see the low that's spinning right there off of southern california. now that's also triggering a little bit of thunderstorm activity down around paso robles bakersfield. look at this. watch this some of that backtracking and look at that starting to pick up there. so maybe around san luis obispo as well over the grapevine. just keep that in mind. if you're going that way you're like what the heck. well, that's now, you know, for us it's a big fog bank out there in the water. temps continue to be cold. there's travis 25 gusts to 32. i mean, that's just that's a roaring

delta wind above the claremont. we always look in the oakland berkeley hills. there's usually a pretty good indicator 49 there 100% humidity there in the fog. southwest ten gusting to 16. so not that crazy. 50s on the temps across the board. i mean, when half moon bay is 55, martinez 55, walnut creek 55, san jose's 50. you know where isothermal, oakland and berkeley are also in there, a few 40s kenwood's in there, occidental and fairfax. i think that's it. yeah, i believe that's it. although sonoma and napa are both 51 degrees, healdsburg is 5037. truckee 41, south lake tahoe, mammoth 41. maybe some more thunderstorms. central sierra they really popped up around bridgeport mammoth yesterday. some of that moisture is backtracked, though into southern california following that low. but look up in the mountains here i mean over the next week or so. i mean that's that's pretty good thunderstorm activity. so this little early for this. but i'd keep an eye on things if you're going into the mountains and next week or so, stuck patterns tend to stay stuck. that's one of my rules of thumb. and we are in a stuck pattern here, no doubt about it. 60, 72, low and

has been following this live in our studio. has the update. good morning jesse. >> pamela, good morning again to you. and the voting started 4:00 this morning will continue all day and most of the night, wrapping up at 10 p.m. tonight. it will take a simple majority of the vote for the union to approve this contract. that union 82, 65 and vta have been at odds over a new contract since december of last year, after negotiations stalled. roughly 1500 bus drivers and light rail operators walked off the job. that was march the 10th. that left roughly 100,000 daily riders stuck without a way to get around the south bay. on march 26th, the santa clara county superior court judge ruled the ongoing strike violated a no strike clause that was in effect during negotiations that force striking workers back on the job. with bus service resuming march 28th and light rail service coming back a few days later. after that, the two sides last met face to face may 22nd, and from that, the offer that's on the table right now. vta would

increase pay 14.5% over four years. it would give enhanced dental benefits, provide an appeal voucher for disagreements, and have improved workplace policies. >> we felt obligated at the point where we are in negotiations that, you know, we let the members decide and give us direction going around talking to the members, you know, face to face for the last week or so, i feel that this is probably going to be a split vote. >> union president raj singh says there are still ruffled feathers over how long it's taken to get to this point. other contracts within vta have already been settled, and the remaining sticking point long term time of leave of absence, the breakup of long time leave. a union worker would have to work 60 consecutive days. right now, it's only 30 days. if the contract is approved, it would take effect june 9th, pending approval of the vta board of directors. you're going to hear

from vta. get their side to all of this coming up in the next hour, guys. >> all right. thank you, jesse. the richmond san rafael bridge is back open this morning following a traffic nightmare throughout the evening commute. this is what it looked like from sky fox, where drivers were heading to the east bay from marin county, just stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. the bridge had to be shut down when crews discovered concrete on the upper deck starting to crumble, while some lanes were later partially reopened, the traffic impact was felt for hours. one driver we spoke to said the delays added more than an hour to his commute. >> about an hour and 20 minutes. so it's, you know, it's quite a bit. i usually it takes me an hour to get home to santa rosa. now it's going to be like a three hour delay. so we just got to bear with it. >> caltrans says they are going to continue to keep an eye on the upper deck this week, looking for any other problems. >> at 635, san francisco police

have made an arrest in a hit and run crash that left a five-year-old with life threatening injuries. jonathan lamb was taken into custody saturday night in daly city. the 35 year-old is accused of fleeing the scene after striking a child on a push bike near 31st avenue and clement street in the richmond district on may 24th. lamb is facing felony hit and run charges. >> wildfires burning across canada are impacting air quality here in the bay area. the smoke from these fires is being pushed by wind, leading to hazy conditions across parts of the u.s. the bay area air quality district says people may notice some haze here in the bay area today. we'll be watching for that. boy, that is a big fire. >> that's huge. all right, let's get over to sal in the traffic center. busy day on the roads for the morning commute. sal. >> andre and pam. you're right, andre, it is busy out there. it's already really busy at the bay bridge. i want to show it to you here from our traffic camera. it's backed up all the

to some of the stories we're following for you this morning in livermore. a motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving multiple vehicles on eastbound 580. the chp says just before 3:00 this morning, the motorcyclist lost control near isabel avenue, then was hit by several cars, including a big rig. that truck then caught fire after pulling over to the side of the road. there's some of the aftermath. the freeway had to be

completely shut down for more than an hour to clean up the crash. it has since been partially reopened. we do have a reporter out there on scene. firefighters in fairfield are watching for hot spots this morning after a fast-moving fire came close to burning several homes. people have been allowed to go home after that. fire forced evacuations yesterday afternoon near kilbourne road. aircraft fought the fire from the sky, while tankers and crews on the ground worked to stop it from spreading. and crews say high winds made that fire difficult to get under control. a 7-eleven in oakland that has been robbed multiple times over the last month was hit by thieves twice in one day. oakland police say the first robbery happened sunday morning. multiple suspects walked in and demanded cash from the register before taking off in a car. then later in the afternoon, police say two people who seemed to be armed with a knife came in, took cash and ran away. neighbors say it's a hotspot for break-ins. >> new report is shedding light on what may have attributed to a

fire at the martinez refinery back in february. the report says a lack of qualified contract workers, along with inadequate training and supervision, played a role in the fire. the report says contract workers were doing maintenance on a piping system and mistakenly caused fuel to leak. the fuel ignited within minutes, sparking a large fire that burned for three days. the report will be presented to contra costa health's oversight committee later today. >> we're hearing from the attorney of the suspect charged in the crash that killed an oakland teacher last week. 18 year old eric hernandez torres was scheduled to graduate saturday from arise high school in oakland, but instead he has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, evading police and hit and run. police say the vehicle torres was driving hit and killed a math teacher from castlemont high school following a chase. >> he has an unformed brain, right? the studies show your brain is not fully formed as far as your reactivity and your ability to make decisions

between right and wrong. >> authorities say hernandez also crashed into a minivan at east 21st street and park boulevard in oakland during a brief chase by chp. >> 645 your time renewed calls this morning for safer streets in san francisco following a deadly crash. the advocacy group walk sf says police told them a 67 year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver on sunday at geary boulevard and second avenue. it's the second senior pedestrian to be killed on geary this year, and the eighth citywide walk. s.f, the city's vision zero traffic safety policy, they say, expired five months ago and there's been no replacement. they're urging the mayor to take action before more people are killed. >> millville mill valley is updating its parking rules to try to accommodate new businesses and housing complexes. the rules date back more than 45 years, and the planning commission is considering changes to adjust to the city's growth. right now, businesses have to provide 3 to 10 parking spaces for every

1000ft!s. the planning commissin is leaning towards loosening those rules. >> well, the justice department is putting pressure on california school districts to ban trans athletes. assistant attorney general harmeet dhillon wrote a letter to school districts yesterday saying that california's law that allows trans athletes to compete violates the equal protection clause and discriminates against athletes on the basis of sex. this comes after trans athletes won two events in the high school state championship over the weekend. the california department of education said it's preparing a response for all school districts today. >> a national education organization and some parents from san francisco unified are pushing back on the school district's ethnic studies curriculum. now, last year, the school district announced incoming students would be required to take two semesters of ethnic studies to graduate. according to the san francisco chronicle, the school district has heard from parents who argue the curriculum is divisive.

edge rusher bryce huff from the philadelphia eagles in exchange for a mid-round pick in the 2026 draft. this deal reunites huff with defensive coordinator robert saleh, who coached huff when he was with the new york jets. huff must pass a physical for that trade to be final. former cal star and super bowl champion marshawn lynch is on the ballot for the 2026 college football hall of fame. the oakland native played three seasons for the golden bears and is second in school history for career rushing yards. former cal receiver desean jackson and current cal general manager ron rivera were also included on that ballot. the 2026 class will be announced in january. we'll see what happens. the oakland roots have named a new head coach after parting ways with two lead coaches. the team named benny feilhaber as the coach for the remainder of the season. the roots announced yesterday the team was relieving head coach gavin guilt, guilt, guilt and
