fast-moving fire moved in. >> from ktvu. fox two news. this is mornings on two. >> good morning. thank you for joining us here. on mornings on two i'm pam cook. >> i'm andre senior. today is tuesday june 3rd. let's get over to steve paulson right now to see what your weather is going to be looking like for this tuesday, steve. >> similar to yesterday. how's that? it'll be about the same tomorrow. so there's not a lot of change here. big fog bank north. so if you're in napa county, i think marin county, sonoma, it's really only going to be 70s if you're east. maybe some low 80s. but there's clearing more towards the peninsula and south bay. but a lot of fog to the north here. not only that, thunderstorms erupted over the central sierra about markleeville south. some of that is backtracked down to southern california around the grapevine, san luis obispo high desert. so if you're heading down that way, bakersfield, keep an eye on things. it's popping up pretty good. there's just a rip roaring delta wind there. and that's i mean, when travis
7:01 am
has gusts over 30, usually you can pencil in about 80 this time of year. low clouds for us. and once that burns off there it is southern california. look at that. so over the grapevine high desert bakersfield, over to san luis obispo near paso robles as well. santa maria so lit up down there. kind of unusual for june, but that's what we're stuck with. and we're stuck pattern as well here. fog slowly retreating to the north. it will burn off later. and if you have the sun, it will be nice. 6070s to near 80 degrees. all right. south here. he tells us the traffic is. >> yeah it's moderate steve, it's not light. it's not really heavy. but there are some areas that are getting heavier. let's go right to the livermore area eastbound 580. and we have a bigger backup approaching isabel now because of a crash. they're still clearing a deadly collision from overnight. we're find out more about what happened right now. what you need to know is if you're driving out of livermore, heading over to tracy, there is an unusual backup stretching out toward isabel that's not usually there that might throw you off.
7:02 am
it's also slowing westbound past the scene as people are slowing the take a look. we also do have a lot of slow traffic nearby. on 680, heading south out of dublin, heading all the way down to the sunol grade and more people are using vallecitos road. so whenever something happens in livermore, people find other ways to do it. and that's why i think some of these roads are a little bit more crowded. let's go to the bay bridge that is backed up all the way out to the maze and also on the east shore freeway. the traffic is busy. 702 let's get back to the headlines. >> thank you. sal. interstate 580 is been covering as well. slowly reopening. that's after a deadly crash early this morning. >> yeah. ktvu is james torres is live in livermore with the latest on the incident. james. >> yeah. traffic on interstate 580 in both directions now slowing down at this point. we are standing on the eastbound side where you see crews are still cleaning up some of the mess left behind. you see that big rig that has a huge fire hole on it attached to a tow
7:03 am
truck? at this point, crews want to try to get this all cleared out here so they can finally get the freeway reopened. about two lanes are still moving in the right direction here, and once you get past isabel avenue, this roadway is wide open here. but it's that space between the airway airway boulevard and isabel avenue where you'll see a little bit of that slowdown. it all started before 3:00 this morning. chp telling us a man on a motorcycle lost control. he fell off. and almost right after cars passing by hit both the driver and the motorcycle. about ten minutes later, a big rig did the same thing. unfortunately. >> two vehicles hit the rider in the number six lane, causing him to sustain fatal injuries and a big rig passing through also collided into the at rest motorcycle itself. >> yeah, that big rig dragged the motorcycle under it that eventually caused the fire. it
7:04 am
crews pulled what was left of the motorcycle from under the big rig before towing it away. medics pronounced the driver of the motorcycle dead, and we saw at least one car pulled over on the shoulder. the driver of that car told me that he hit the motorcycle that damaged his bumper and his tires. now he too is waiting for a tow. chp reports no other drivers were hurt in this flurry of crashes. troopers are telling me that they are working to contact the victim's family before releasing his identity. we expect this freeway to open up in just the next few minutes here. we're live this morning near livermore. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you. james. firefighters in fairfield are monitoring hot spots this morning. they're looking for hot spots. after that, fast-moving fire came close to burning several homes. people were allowed to head back home after the fire forced evacuations near hillburn road. aircraft fought the fire from the sky. tankers
7:05 am
and crews on the ground worked to stop it from spreading. crews say high winds made that fire difficult to get it under control. a number of neighbors sprung into action, spraying down their own homes. >> i just watered everything. everything down the fences, down anything. wood, furniture, you know, outside furniture, trees. you just never think it's going to happen. it's going to come over your way. so it just taught us a lesson on, like we've been saying, we need to kind of pack things and no go bag. >> crews say some houses and cars will need to be cleaned after fire retardant was dropped in the area. >> flames raced through some businesses in fremont last night. firefighters tell us it happened at paseo padre park, where a deep creek road near the border with union city. firefighters say most of the fire damage was in a nail salon, but some other businesses in the strip mall had some water damage from sprinklers. no one was hurt. firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused
7:06 am
the fire. >> firefighters in oakland put out several fires yesterday afternoon. one was a brush fire on 36th avenue, not far from interstate 880. we're told that fire started along the railroad tracks and spread into nearby backyards. no homes are damaged. firefighters also responded to a separate r-v fire at third and adeline, which that sent heavy smoke into the air and briefly threatened a commercial building. now, as we move into fire season. be sure to download the free fox local mobile app to get breaking news updates right to your phone, tablet or smart tv. >> 706 now a 7-eleven in oakland that has been robbed multiple times over the last month was hit by thieves twice in one day. oakland police say the first robbery happened sunday morning on grand avenue. several people walked into the store, demanded cash before taking off in a car. then later in the afternoon, police say two men who seemed to be armed with a knife came in,
7:07 am
took cash and ran away. neighbors say this location has been a hotspot for break-ins. in fact, the windows are still boarded up from the last smash-and-grab that took place here. >> that's really heartbreaking. the guys who run this 7-eleven are really sweet. i feel awful for them. >> investigators say they don't believe the two incidents are related. back in april, when the same shop was broken into twice in 24 hours, the store clerk told us he was attacked by the thieves, leading him to quit. we're hearing from several bay area arts organizations that have suddenly lost federal funding. one of those affected is the san francisco gay men's choir. the national endowment of the arts recently ended their $38,000 grant right at the start of pride month. in a statement, the nea said it is focusing on funding projects that reflect the nation's rich artistic heritage as prioritized by the president, and said the gay men's choir does not align with those priorities.
7:08 am
>> rage. anger. like someone is trying to minimize you, tell you your stories don't matter. and that is not a new thing for the lgbtq plus community. >> sfjazz also had a $30,000 nea grant canceled. both organizations say they now have to rely more heavily on community donations to stay afloat. >> the san francisco parks alliance is preparing to shut down amid city investigations into how it manages its finances, according to the san francisco chronicle. the nonprofit's board members voted last week to dissolve the organization. for years, it has helped improve the city's public spaces. however, the parks alliance began facing complaints that it was not reimbursing community partners. it's also accused of using millions in donations and restricted funding to pay its operating costs. >> time is 708 and we have been looking at a lot of these commutes. of course, we've been talking about looks like the
7:09 am
livermore commute. let's start there, because eastbound 580 and westbound 580 are slow as you drive in livermore because of an earlier crash. people are looking at what's going on. let me get rid of all these icons here, looking at what's going on at isabel. they're clearing the crash. that happened overnight pretty serious. 680 is also slow leaving from dublin and also vallecitos road. some people are avoiding 580 and they're on other freeways. and you can tell. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza right now. that is backed up all the way out to the maze and the metering lights are on this morning. it is backed up all the way out to the maze, but once you make it onto the bridge, it actually looks okay. no problems on the richmond bridge. remember yesterday we had that terrible commute in the eastbound direction? this morning the bridge is back to normal. you have normal slowdowns. 709 let's go back to the desk. >> and i'm like, miguel, you're

violated a no strike clause that was in effect during negotiations that forced striking workers back on the job, with bus service resuming march 28th and light rail service coming back online a few days later. the two sides last met face to face may 22nd, and from that the following contract offer on the table vta would increase pay 14.5% over four years. it would give enhanced dental benefits, provide an appeal voucher for disagreements at work, and have improved workplace policies. vta spokeswoman stacey hendler ross saying in addition to the raise the authority has added to the length of the contract. >> this contract is offer is significantly different in that there's an extra year tacked on to it. ordinarily, we have had a three year contract with atu, and this time it's a four year contract, which is on par with the other three unions that we have at vta with. we've already settled renewed contracts with. we think this is a fair and very

hayward to fremont. that's not unusual when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza that's backed up to the maze. let's bring steve back with today's weather. we're off to a cloudy start. >> for majority. that is correct. so no doubt we'll start north. this is a big fog bank. i think there's more here than we saw yesterday. and i'm speaking about marin county. napa even out when almost out to fairfield i mean that's a heck of a push when it gets out that far. and they have a roaring onshore up to cloverdale now again that will clear fast and they'll still be in the 80s. but i think santa rosa stays in the low to mid 70s at best. that's just a lot of low clouds in marin coast, sonoma coast, even out to concord, you can see, i mean, vallejo, hiddenbrooke cordelia that's a lot of low clouds. lafayette, san ramon, even out to parts of livermore. some breaks in there, but then south it is thick as thieves there on the san mateo coast, all the way down to santa cruz, gilroy, a little bit hollister, and even down to monterey. you'll see it right there. so there's some breaks there, but that's a big fog bank for early june. so june gloom is has arrived, no doubt about it here. a little low
7:40 am
there off of southern california is pumping in a little bit of thunderstorm activity. but for us it's really all about the fog and an onshore breeze or wind. so with that in place temps today, we're really not change all that much from yesterday 50 to start for most here, 40 up in the mountains. thunderstorms yesterday about markleeville south. but look at southern california. i mean it is lit up already down there just north of l.a. high desert bakersfield, then over towards paso robles, also san luis obispo, santa maria. i mean, that's an active morning before 8:00, no doubt about it. watch in the last few boom boom right there popping up. so anybody heading down 101 or 5 or on the grapevine keep that in mind. for us it's just really a quiet pattern. but look at the mountains. i mean that's a lot of moisture for early june. but it looks like over the next 5 to 7 days there will be activity up in the mountains. so stuck pattern, no doubt. only day to day subtle changes. so one day a little cooler today. monday, a little warmer tomorrow, but really no changes until probably the weekend. 60, 7080 does look warmer as we head towards the weekend, especially
7:41 am
as we head towards. i think sunday temps could pop up to a few if you're inland upper 80s. >> thank you steve. the bay area is near the top of a list of regions where people are moving away. the trends report from moving company pods has los angeles as the number one place where people are leaving, followed by the bay area. >> yeah, research shows that it's due to high housing prices, remote work and natural disasters. and now we want to hear from you this morning. we're asking, have you considered moving out of the bay area your options? no, i am rooted here. the other is yes, making plans and the other is yes, but haven't acted. and right now 84% of you say you just haven't acted. the numbers are moving. scan the qr code top right hand corner of your screen or head to ktvu.com/vote. let us know what you think. >> yeah, always kind of interesting. >> yes it is here. >> reasons for people moving. it might be to move near family. >> or it's also. >> grandkids cost of living certainly. >> as you get to. >> retirement not because of the weather. all right. weigh in.

7:50 am
bottleneck. that's going to take a while to unwind. now there is a crash southbound 680 coming down on 84 right before it there on 680 out of pleasanton. so people are on vallecitos road and it's going to be this whole tri valley area has been tough all morning long. we're going to keep an eye on that for you. if you're driving on 880, it slows at 238. it doesn't get better until after stevenson. 750. let's talk about today's weather. here's steve. >> so thank you sir. we are in a pattern where it really doesn't change all that much here. just subtle day to day changes and even bigger fog bank today than we had yesterday, especially north and east. these lows keep dropping in, so it keeps our pattern here. not only breezy to windy at times, but cool to nice to mild to warm. i mean you know june inland you can warm up pretty fast. but there's the low. you see it spinning there. not only that it is tapping into moisture. that was over the central sierra yesterday. it's replacing the low that brought some record rain down to arizona, phoenix, scottsdale and areas north. and look at this. it is lit up from bakersfield.
7:51 am
so if you're heading down five 101 san luis obispo near paso road just south of paso, but boy, it's close there over to santa maria and even over the grapevine. some big thunderstorms already erupting. look at the low cloud deck. i mean, that's a heck of a surge there when he goes all the way up to napa valley, all the way up to cloverdale. my goodness. and then even out parts east bay to concord, san ramon, some in livermore. looks like that's retreating a little bit and just sold out, as we say on the san mateo coast, down to santa cruz, down to monterey, parts of the santa clara valley as well, so that that will be slow to retreat. and that's going to keep temperatures. i think in the 60s, 70s, 80s, you can see the circulation of the low right there off of southern california. and that's what's tapped into that moisture, and that's what's triggering that triggering activity down in southern california. and that's pretty impressive for this time of year. west southwest of 31 out of fairfield. that's a roaring delta wind. 50s on the temps. i mean, everyone's pretty close here. 40s, 50s up in the mountains. thunderstorm activity was just south of markleeville
7:52 am
yesterday, so they'll probably bubble up again south, i would think, towards, you know, mammoth bishop bridgeport area again. some of that moisture though definitely impacting central california and the southern end of the san joaquin valley. look at the moisture. i mean tahoe to mammoth, that's a lot for june. so just if you're heading to the mountains, keep an eye on the sky. we are in a stuck pattern. i just don't see things changing all that much. one day. a little cooler today, one day a little warmer tomorrow. but no big changes. 60, 70, 80. now again, if you're far enough inland, it can still get pretty warm there. but for my forecast zone, it keeps it about the same until the weekend when it does look warmer away from the coast. >> really impacts our farmers and our whole economy here. with the amount of theft that goes on. >> it's not your unusual crime here. thieves busted red-handed for stealing thousands of cherries from northern california orchards.
