concern about funding, nothing was cut. but as the pentagon discusses stripping harvey milk's name off a navy ship and ongoing threats to queer rights, this year's theme is queer joy is resistance. >> they are not going to take away our joy in this city, because you can love who you love, and you can be who you are. >> at sfpd headquarters, city leaders kicked off pride month on wednesday with an event celebrating its lgbtq plus officers. >> sfpd has taken meaningful steps to become a more inclusive department. that work doesn't just benefit lgbtq plus officers, it makes the department more responsive, culturally competent, and more effective in serving every community across this city. >> chief bill scott saying sfpd will make sure everyone feels safe at pride. >> pride will be very heavily deployed like it always is. back in 2022, s.f. pride banned uniforms from the parade, but officers with the sfpd pride

officially sanctioned by the city, but does have support from city leaders. one of the oldest gay bars in the bay area, now under new leadership, scott taylor, who owns harris's restaurant in san francisco, is purchasing the cinch saloon. the bar opened up in 1974 on polk street, which used to be the epicenter of the queer nightlife in san francisco. there were rumors this bar could close if it was unable to find a new owner. scott taylor says he is grateful to be able to preserve this culturally important bar, and you can find all of our pride coverage on the fox local app. it's a free download on your smart tv and smartphone. now to san mateo, where a massive tree has come down tonight. skyfox flew the scene just about an hour ago. this is on south railroad avenue, right between ninth and 10th avenue. the video shows several vehicles damaged underneath the tree. officials are asking people to avoid the area as crews work to clear the roadway. the u.s. transportation secretary announcing that he wants to

cancel $4 billion in federal grants for california's high speed rail project. now, this project, which is supposed to connect san francisco to los angeles, has faced delays and budget problems now for years. but california officials tell ktvu jana katsuyama the report is flawed, and they plan to fight to keep the funding and the project on track. >> california's high speed rail project came under fire wednesday, as u.s. transportation secretary sean duffy announced he wants to take back some $4 billion in federal grant funding that was authorized for the project. in an interview with fox news, secretary duffy said. >> not one high speed track has been laid and we're $16 billion in 17 years into the project. >> the secretary says california has 37 days to respond to his letter and the 310 page federal railroad administration compliance review report stated that california failed in nine key areas, including missed deadlines for procuring trains and funding shortages to pay for

contractor delays, as well as electrifying the rails and an inability to get the trains in operation by 2033. >> the timelines and the budget for the california high speed rail is they can't meet them right. and so we have $4 billion that has been authorized to go to california to build this project. and we don't want to invest in boondoggles. >> the california high speed rail authority issued a statement saying in part, quote, the authority strongly disagrees with the fra's conclusions, which are misguided. while continued federal partnership is important to the project, the majority of our funding has been provided by the state. the governor's budget proposal extends at least 1 billion per year in funding for the next 20 years, providing the necessary resources to complete the project's initial operating segment. >> so we continue throwing good money after bad. should we say that we've already wasted $17 billion? so what's another 100 billion? i don't think that's the right thing to do. >> is politically motivated and needlessly vengeful. when the federal government agrees to

commit funding for local infrastructure projects, communities across the country need to be able to rely on the federal government to deliver on its promise. >> and trump won. they tried to cancel, i believe it was $1 billion, and california sued and won. they can't just willy nilly cancel it. there has to be a reason, and we don't think they have a reason and we'll fight them on it. >> the california. >> a bill in sacramento designed to allow for more housing near transit stops passed in the senate. the bill would allow taller, more population dense projects to be built within a half mile of transit stops. that includes systems including bart, caltrain and parts of the la metro. san francisco senator scott wiener authored the bill. it's now headed to the assembly. marin transit officials balanced their budget, preparing, as they say, for an unsettled future. the board approved a $56 million budget for next year. it will also put $4.5 million into a

reserve fund, which now has about six months worth of emergency operating expenses. the agency is one of many across the bay area dealing with the loss of federal covid relief funds. it also expects sales tax revenue to drop next year. union members have approved the labor contract with the santa clara valley transportation authority after a contentious strike. the four year deal raises wages of bus operators and mechanics by 14.5%. over the course of the contract. employees also receive enhanced dental benefits and a voucher for uniforms. the union went on strike in march, crippling transit service across san jose for nearly three weeks until a judge ordered the strikers back to work. vta says that it hopes to improve lingering workplace issues. >> one of which we've created is the culture and climate change committee, which will have board representation at the table with union leadership and with vta management to work on workplace issues. >> you may begin speaking when. >> the vta board of directors is expected to vote to approve this

deal as early as tomorrow. the new contract would go into effect starting monday. a lawsuit against bart is moving forward one year after a woman was killed after being pushed into an oncoming train. it happened at the powell street station in san francisco in july of last year. 74 year old corazon dondon was taking bart home after leaving her job at a hotel in union square. prosecutors say 49 year old trevor belmont shoved her into an oncoming train. police arrested him on the platform. don don's nephew and six siblings have filed a lawsuit alleging bart's faregates and overall platform design are dangerous. we've reached out to bart for comment and have not heard back. new at six the aclu has filed a lawsuit against sonoma county for allegedly violating residents right to privacy with a drone program. now, six years ago, sonoma county code enforcement section launched a warrantless drone program to track down illegal marijuana grow operations in rural areas. well, now this

lawsuit is calling for the county to stop using the drones, saying they're being used to surveil homes in private life. we've reached out to the county for comment, but have not heard back. and a man connected to an explosion at a fertility clinic in palm springs is now in custody. 32 year-old daniel park of washington state, was initially detained in poland and was arrested at jfk in new york city last night. officials say park flew to europe shortly after the attack. fbi agents say he helped give explosive material to guy edward birx, who used the supplies to bomb the american reproductive center in palm springs last month. parks was killed in the blast. fbi officials say park and berkus shared the same views opposing human reproduction. >> they don't believe people should be new. life should be created, that it should be not created without consent. i don't know really what that means, but that is the reason that we believe that they likely targeted the location that they did. that's why we're calling

this a terrorist attack. the location was not a coincidence. >> park was scheduled to appear in court today in brooklyn. five other people were injured in that attack, and the manhunt continues for a dad after his three daughters were found dead in washington state. 32 year-old travis decker is wanted for three counts of first degree murder and first degree kidnaping. the three girls were found dead not far from the truck that police say they believe their father was driving. authorities say the girls mother reported them missing friday, after decker failed to return them after a planned visit. a preliminary report suggests the girls may have died from asphyxiation. coming up at six, a bay area firefighter traveling abroad when disaster struck. later at 6:00, the skills he used as a first responder to help strangers amid the chaos. and amazon is one of the busiest companies in the world. let's see how a bay area distribution center is using artificial intelligence now to get packages to you more efficiently.

sunnyvale, executives unveiled some of the company's latest ai initiatives. the company says ai has already allowed it to improve its regional demand, forecasting on millions of popular items by 20%. that means items that might have otherwise taken two days now arrive in just one. >> what this model really excels at is taking some of that historical data, taking what we've observed over time, but then applying it to products and patterns that we might not have seen before. >> and ai is also directly helping delivery drivers not only to find the best routes, but also right down to specific parking spots in busy locations. viraj chatterjee is vice president of geospatial mapping. >> but now with generative ai. because we have the power to reason over petabytes of raw data at our disposal, we are able to precisely determine what parking location we should have for which building. >> in this image provided by amazon, you can see the new mapping technology. the ai models combine everything from satellite imagery to city zoning maps to predict where is the

on non solar customers caused by existing solar subsidy programs. >> californians are facing record high electricity bills. families. renters, small businesses. everyone is feeling the pressure. we need to act and that is why i introduced ab 942 of any legislative proposal this session. no other bill would provide as much savings to millions of californians as ab 942 would. >> supporters say the net metering system shifted more than $8 billion in extra costs to non-solar customers last year, but opponents say cutting solar subsidies will lead to fewer people deciding to go solar, which means a move away from clean, renewable energy. that bill now heads to the state senate. the bay area air quality management district has approved $4 million in funding for community air protection incentives. officials say the goal is to support home and

school air filtration programs and to create just a cleaner environment. now, more than $1 million will go toward upgrades for public schools in the richmond area. 1.7 million to schools in san francisco, bayview. >> and that certainly is good news there. hi, everybody. good evening to you. we do have the extension of an air quality advisory. it will be in effect for your thursday. moderate levels of ozone in the atmosphere, mainly particulate matter from those wildfires that continue to burn out of control in canada. yeah, that smoke is being transported to good 1500 miles into the bay area. thus the hazy conditions. so it's not really going to affect your health at all because the smoke is at the upper elevation. we are at the surface stable air mass. so it acts like a lid. and it's hard for that smoke to penetrate that lid. however, we need to monitor our sensitive groups like our children and the elderly and anybody who suffers from any respiratory ailments.

this photo of a man who they suspect attacked two people in the area. he is described as a man in his 30s, wearing a black hoodie, green riding blue jeans. if you've seen him in the area, you're asked to call 911 or the police department. right now, two people are under arrest in san jose for alleged human trafficking. 39 year old yang changjiang and 45 year old wei zhang jiao were taken into custody last thursday. san jose police officers conducted search warrants at two massage businesses, one on west julian street and another on cherie and circle. officers say three adult female survivors were found at those locations and were provided with resources. coming up, battles over president trump's big, beautiful spending bill. the latest report from the congressional budget office's office. as president trump supporters defend the plan. and san francisco acquires defensive end bryce huff from the eagles.

morning, federal agents were seen behind chavez supermarket. the agency says no arrests were made at the market or in the lot. the supermarket instead was used as a secondary processing location. san jose mayor matt mehan releasing a statement saying he does not have information about this operation, adding the city's police department does not carry out federal immigration enforcement. an ice spokesperson did send us a statement saying here those arrested had executable final orders of removal by an immigration judge and had not complied with that order. ice did not say how many people were taken into custody during this two day operation. the agency says this was not random. it was going after specific individuals. also new at 630, president trump is bringing back his first term travel ban. he signed a proclamation late today banning entry into the united states from a dozen countries. most of those in africa, including libya, chad and sudan, but also

afghanistan and iran. it goes into effect at 1201 monday morning. president trump also tightening restrictions on visitors from seven other nations, including nearby cuba. in today's proclamation, president trump said he is acting to, quote, protect the national security of national interests of the united states and its people. now to president trump's ongoing trade war. countries were told to submit their best and final offer by today, while the white house is still trying to negotiate with china. fox's rebecca castor has the very latest from washington. obviously, that was not the story. that was the tree that came down in san mateo. will try to get back to that story in just a bit. but first, this afternoon, members of the senate finance committee met with president trump at the white house as the president tries to muster support for his massive

budget plan. today, the congressional budget office estimated that the so-called big beautiful bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over the next ten years, and will leave nearly 11 million people without health insurance. elon musk is urging congress to start over, saying, quote, bankrupting america is not okay. kill the bill. but supporters say it's necessary to implement trump's agenda. >> we have time for a brand new bill, and i want elon and all my friends to recognize the complexity of what we've accomplished here. this extraordinary piece of legislation. >> he started to figure out these guys aren't serious about cutting spending. they never were. >> democrats say the bill slashes safety net programs, including medicaid and snap food assistance, to pay for tax cuts for wealthier americans. the package also includes $350 billion for border security. the president says he wants the bill on his desk by the 4th of july. president trump says russia plans to respond to recent drone attacks by ukraine on russian

air bases. this comes as the u.s. failed to show at a meeting of ukraine allies in europe. fox's alex hogan has more from london. >> the fighting on ukraine's eastern front is intensifying as both sides ramp up their summer offensives. and at a wednesday meeting, ukraine's allies promised to keep the arms and ammunition flowing. but there was one notable absence among the 50 defense leaders pentagon chief pete hegseth, as the trump administration urges european allies to increase their share of support. >> the united states is totally committed to nato, completely committed to article five. >> it's being seen as a possible rebuke following ukraine's surprise attack on russia's long range strategic bombers, which was not coordinated with the u.s. >> will president trump informed in advance by ukraine that the attack is coming? >> he was not. >> ukraine's security services have been increasing their activity behind enemy lines.

injunction to stop the sweeps. a temporary restraining order, which initially prevented the city from removing the camps, expired last month. a u.s. district judge ruling late this afternoon that the city did not provide adequate notice to the encampment residents. a hearing on the issue has been scheduled for tuesday. san jose mayor matt mehan is increasing the push for his responsibility to shelter initiative, ahead of a critical city council vote next week. mayor mehan was in san jose's japantown today with other city leaders and supporters of his homeless plan. it would move people in tents and encampments into temporary housing and treatment programs. now, people who choose not to accept the shelter after three different attempts will be subject to arrest for trespassing. >> we have a chance to stop giving up on people. our firefighters and police officers are asking that we take it. our small business owners are asking that we take it. recovery

department. he was visiting england, where he's from, to cheer on liverpool fc when he was there. a car drove through a crowd at a parade on may 26th, injuring more than 100 people, while trader helped triage all of those patients. and he credits the active shooter and triage training he received just a few days before. with his ability to jump in and execute, alameda county firefighters walked the streets raising awareness for mental health resources and to honor the memory of one of their own. june marks men's mental health awareness month. it also marks six years since alameda county firefighter eric michael died by suicide. alameda county research shows 20% of firefighters will likely meet criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder. today, recruits walking 14 miles through the streets of alameda county in an attempt to strike the stigma that first responders are too tough for mental health services. eric, michael's father, was there.

degrees. it was spot on in san jose at 76 degrees. mid 70s in santa rosa, which is pretty close to average, but a degree or two below normal in san francisco, 70 covid around redwood city and redwood shore. we're currently at 65 degrees. a pair of sevens in concord and now 73 in sunnyvale. and notice the breeze. now, what we want is a good onshore push to blow all this smoke out in the easterly direction. napa is having more of a southwesterly flow right now with a 23 mile per hour wind gusts tonight, overnight into the 40s and low 50s. winds will begin to dial back overnight, but pick back up tomorrow west and then southwest 10 to 20 during the afternoon hours with that hazy sunshine. oh, and we're going to wake up to a much deeper marine layer. so that's going to squeeze out a few raindrops like, you know, it's condensation. it's drizzle all associated with that deepening marine layer. so here we go. look at phoenix 14/100 of an

known for its pretty solid burgers, is now opening up a cookie counter in san francisco's ferry building. gott's roadside is adding a counter just to serve cookies and milk attached to its main restaurant there in the ferry building. the company says the counter will have cookies baked there on site and special flavored milk as well. just in time for summer, a west coast ice cream shop known for pushing flavor boundaries is launching something new. salt and straw is launching its summer pie series. the flavors do include tomato pie, rhubarb crumble, wildflower honey and lemon and coconut cherry pie with almond crust. we spoke with salt and straw co-founder and head ice cream innovator. he says. the summer series was inspired by classic summer desserts and the pacific northwest best seasonal produce. the shop also has a do it yourself ice cream cookbook. >> once you start making ice cream, you'll appreciate how much magic goes into the pints of ice cream at salt and straw
