union square. also, a massive tree comes down in the city of san mateo. one person injured, multiple vehicles damaged. and in berkeley, the takedown of a homeless encampment comes to a halt after a federal judge put a stop to it in a late afternoon ruling. >> the 11:00 news on ktvu fox two starts now. >> and good evening, everyone. i'm mike mibach. the city says the removal of that encampment was intended to create a safer environment for residents in and around the spot. ktvu is amber lee joins us live tonight here in studio. and amber, you did hear back from the city of berkeley. >> that's right. mike, the spokesperson for the city of berkeley, calls the encampment a public health hazard and that the removal of the encampment was months in the making. but the homeless folks tell me they were not given proper notice. and a federal judge agreed. >> and it's all on shopping cart wheels. >> aaron spencer shows me his

makeshift home on wheels. >> i can move out of the way quickly enough. then, you know, i might get to keep some of my stuff. >> he tells me he scrambled to move it around 6 a.m. wednesday, from where he usually parks near the intersection of eighth and harrison streets in berkeley. that's when police and public works crews moved in to remove a homeless encampment. >> they gave us no warning, and then suddenly we have to leave 20 minutes to grab and get gone. >> it just hasn't been safe for anyone. we've seen rodents rotting garbage, feces, combustible materials, hypodermic needles. >> but a spokesperson for the city of berkeley says notices were posted in january that it intended to close the camp. but the berkeley homeless union, an advocacy group, says it received a temporary restraining order from a federal judge to stop what it calls encampment sweeps. but that order expired late last month and that this notice was posted on wednesday. >> this is the notice that they

posted for the sweep, which they posted three quarters of the way through the sweep. >> so this morning. >> yes, this morning. >> on wednesday afternoon, a federal judge ordered the city not to close the encampment, at least until next week. chaco says the dozen people at this encampment were offered an alternative, and that people from other encampments are now housed in this motel that has been converted into housing for the homeless. >> that's why we've tried so hard to house people. but as we know, you can't force somebody to take housing. >> one woman says she lost her belongings. she had been away at a sobriety treatment center when the city tried to remove the encampment. >> i was kind of very flabbergasted. i was very upset. >> this man returned to this area with his trailer as soon as he heard that a judge had stopped the city from shutting down the encampment, at least temporarily. >> i'm. i'm a dumpster diver. i'm a scrapper. i go, and i find the interesting things that other people think they don't

need and have thrown away. you can't do that in the hotels they offer. >> the berkeley spokesperson says officials will follow the law and take a look at next steps. there is a court hearing scheduled for this matter on june 10th. >> mike and amber. >> as for the people at the encampment, we don't know if they actually took the offer for the shelter. >> we don't know, but for sure the ones i spoke with did not. >> got it. okay. tuesday, june 10th. amber, thank you for that. san jose mayor matt mehan is increasing the push for his responsibility to shelter initiative ahead of a very critical city council vote next week. mayor mehan was in san jose's japantown today with other city leaders and supporters of his homeless plan. it would move people in tents and encampments into temporary housing and treatment programs. now, if the proposal moves forward, people who choose not to accept shelter after three attempts would be subject to arrest for trespassing. the initiative is included in the mayor's budget proposal, which the city council is scheduled to take a final vote on next

tuesday. convicted killer nima momani was back in a san francisco courtroom for a status hearing. he was found guilty of second degree murder last december for stabbing and killing cashapp founder bob lee in san francisco. that was in 2023. he is now facing 16 years to life. his new defense team requested the full transcript of the trial before deciding whether to file a motion to appeal. a sentencing date was not set. the judge requested another status update on august 22nd. san mateo county supervisors will hold a special board meeting tomorrow afternoon to consider removing sheriff christina corpus from office. the board must approve the start of the removal process with a 4/5 vote. now, voters overwhelmingly approved the measure a that gave the board the power to remove a sheriff for cause through the year 2028. an independent audit accused sheriff corpus of abusing her power, an allegation she has repeatedly denied. alameda county supervisors voted to spend nearly $270 million to be

spent on repairs at santa rita jail. the board of supervisors voted yesterday to authorize upgrades to the facility. santa rita jail is the largest in the county, which houses more than 1600 inmates at any given time. the five year project will focus on vital upgrades, including road repairs, cybersecurity upgrades and building perimeters. the sheriff says the upgrades will solve a number of safety problems that have plagued the jail staff and inmates. critics, though, say the money could be better spent building thousands of affordable housing units. san jose police are investigating two reported sexual assaults right near the los gatos creek trail. officers were canvasing the neighborhood around lee avenue today. now, police say they believe that man there attacked two people in the neighborhood. they say the suspect is in his 30s, last seen wearing a black hoodie and green writing and blue jeans. police posting a photo on x, asking the public to let them know if they've seen this man. if you've

seen him, you're asked to call 911 or the police department. police are expected to be in the neighborhood all night and into the week. in san mateo this afternoon, a massive tree came crashing down, crushing several vehicles, also injuring one person. tonight, crews still on scene after hours of clearing that debris. the tree fell over an area of south railroad avenue. this is right near ninth avenue this afternoon. one person was hurt, but firefighters treated them on scene for non life threatening injuries. the tree came down right near green fashion nursery. business owners of that nursery say the tree damaged a small part of the store, saying they've tried to flag the city about that very tree before. >> well, you know, this is something that we've called the city about before. have informed them that this tree is old. you know, when you call, you get a city clerk. they say they get back to you in a day or two. and unfortunately, you know, nothing was caught in time before. you know, things like this happen.

>> our cameras did capture the road blocked off earlier this afternoon, and a truck crushed under a large tree as skyfox flew over the area this afternoon, you can see the tree blocked the entire roadway again. crews were on scene still tonight. there is no estimated time when all of that roadway will reopen. new tonight. some nintendo fans have become the proud owners of the new nintendo switch two. after major anticipation for months now, gamers lining up to be among the first to get their hands on nintendo's newest and most expensive system to date. ktvu is betty yu joins us live tonight at the nintendo store in san francisco's union square. that long line. you know, it's gone now. but, hey, you were with us just an hour ago. it was. it was a busy spot. >> that's right. mike. this was the spot to be tonight in union square. really was a block long party. now, the store just sold to its final customer of the night, wrapping up a really electric launch event today.

now, you mentioned that line. take a look at this video. it stretched all the way down powell street and halfway around the block. now, these are people who made their reservations online to be among the first to purchase the nintendo switch two. this is a long awaited console from nintendo. the console started rolling out at 9:00 tonight. the new system retails for about $450, making it nintendo's priciest console yet. but ask any of these fans they will tell you it is all worth it. this version comes with more storage, a larger screen, and new features like an in-game voice chat. now, earlier tonight, we spoke with some fans who just couldn't contain their excitement. >> i made friends with everyone who was with me at the front of the line, like probably ten people. i even got some of them friends on my switch so now i can play this with them. >> i come san francisco three days ago, but i love it and i

make your getaway now and cache in at cache creek casino resort. the south bay detained multiple people this afternoon as part of a larger escalation of immigration enforcement. the activity in san jose was centered near chavez supermarket on blossom hill road. u.s. immigration and customs enforcement telling ktvu multiple arrests were made today and yesterday as part of the same operation. the agency says no arrests were made at the market or in the market's parking lot. that supermarket was used instead as a secondary processing location. san jose

mayor matt mehan released a statement saying he does not have any information about this operation, also adding that the city's police department does not carry out federal immigration enforcement. an ice spokesperson released a statement saying those arrested had executable final orders of removal by an immigration judge and had not complied with that order. ice did not say how many people were taken into custody during the two day op. the agency says this was not a random raid, rather they were going after specific individuals. a large crowd gathered in livermore tonight to voice support for miguel lopez, the father of three being held by ice following his detention at an immigration hearing in san francisco. ktvu john jack has the story. >> miguel. home. >> people chanted. cars honked their horns, and family members got emotional. >> my dad, miguel, is an amazing father. >> as hundreds of people rallied in downtown livermore wednesday

night calling for miguel lopez to be returned home. >> i feel loved. i feel like i'm being heard. finally, i feel a lot of support from not just friends, families, teachers, the community. >> rosa lopez says her husband was detained by ice agents at the immigration facility in san francisco last tuesday after he reported for a regular check in with authorities. the couple married in 2001. she's a u.s. citizen. he's undocumented, brought to the u.s. by his parents from mexico city when he was 18. for years, the family has lived in livermore, where they've raised three children amid a drawn out court battle trying to get miguel legal status. >> he always shows a lot, a lot of love, not only for his family but his friends. so i feel like him not being here is a big difference. i can feel it. >> miguel is a really good man. he has worked at a local vineyard for over nine years paying taxes. this isn't. this

a dozen countries from entering the united states. now, most of those are in africa, including libya, chad and sudan, but also afghanistan and iran. the order also heightens restrictions on visitors from seven other countries. the president cited national security concerns in connection to the recent attack in boulder, colorado. the suspect in that attack is an egyptian national, but egypt is not on the list of affected countries, although the president did say that list is subject to change. the ban takes effect on monday. [music] federal authorities are laying out new information about a second suspect in the bombing of a southern california fertility clinic. investigators say they believe a man from washington state supplied the palm springs fertility bombing suspect with explosive material. the story does begin tonight's west coast rap. authorities say 25 year old guy bartkus blew up a car full of explosives outside a fertility clinic in palm springs on may 17th. he was killed in the bombing. fbi officials

reported today that a washington state man identified as daniel park, shipped nearly 200 pounds of ammonium nitrate, a precursor to the bombing. >> park paid for an additional 90 pounds of ammonium nitrate that was shipped to barchus in the days leading up to the palm springs attack. >> park was arrested at jfk international last night and appeared in a federal court in new york city. today, he is charged with providing and attempting to provide material support to a terrorist. fbi investigators say they believe that the two spent weeks together working on, quote, experiments in barca's garage right here in california. police in mccall, idaho, say they are looking into reports of a possible sighting of a man accused of killing his three daughters. travis decker has been on the run from central washington mccall's, about a two hour drive north of boise, six hours from where decker is suspected of killing his

at the vistra battery plant in moss landing. that fire that started on january 16th has set off a wave of lawsuits. a survey released by monterey and santa cruz counties found that 82% of 1500 residents surveyed had at least one health symptom after the fire. a vistara spokesperson said that several agencies are monitoring the air, water and soil, adding quote, to date, no risk to public health have been observed. pge also has a battery plant at moss landing. it tried to restart the facility on sunday, but due to a cooling leak, the utility says it's delaying the return to service to a later date. all right. now

of the southwest 10 to 20mph. now, keep in mind, with that deeper marine layer, you could encounter some drizzle tomorrow morning. it's that condensation associated with the low clouds. air quality advisory has been extended for your thursday due to the smoke associated with those canadian wildfires in alberta and manitoba. so as that smoke drifts in the southwest, wind will kick it back out, we have a deep marine layer. we also have in phoenix a dry day back into the triple digits tomorrow after 95 degrees today and 14/100 of an inch of rain which put them over the top. now they have 0.46in of rain for the month of june, which shatters the old record of 2/100 of an inch. so record rainfall in phoenix, arizona, locally trough to the south of us, a tranquil seasonal weather pattern. we do have the low clouds marching inland a good 55 miles overnight, then backing off to the san mateo coastline. you see the blue specks there that denotes some areas of drizzle.

so tomorrow we're going with 60s at the beaches, 6070 around the central bay, up to about 85 degrees outside number 79, morgan hill and gilroy. and check it out. it is a stable weather pattern each and every day until we hit about next monday. then we start to see some summery weather return. mike. >> all right, keep those triple digits away though. thank you. roberta. transportation secretary sean duffy announcing today the trump administration plans to pull $4 billion in federal funding for california's high speed rail project. secretary duffy says that not one high speed track has been laid 17 years into this. the secretary also says california has 37 days to respond to his letter, and a 310 page federal railroad administration compliance review report. that review says california has failed in nine key areas, including missed deadlines and procuring trains and funding shortages to pay for contractor delays. >> timelines and the budget for the california high speed rail

month celebrations and welcome large crowds to the city by the bay. security and safety always top of mind. and at police headquarters today, city leaders kicked off pride month with an event celebrating its lgbtq plus officers. back in 2022, s.f. pride banned uniforms from the parade. but this year, chief bill scott says the department will make sure everyone feels safe at pride, and organizers say there will also be additional security. >> i will be very heavily deployed like it always is. >> sf pride spends over $600,000 in security for a layer between our community and the police. >> historically, about a million people have attended sf pride and one of the most one of the city's most iconic pride displays was returning. this weekend, volunteers will be bringing back the pink triangle installation at twin peaks. it's going to go up on saturday. this year, the city is celebrating the triangle's 30th year. the symbol was originally used by the nazis to identify and shame gay prisoners. it's since been
