>> that is something certainly a lot of people are talking about. we're going to be at that press conference. now she has an attorney, so we're going to hear more about this. all right. let's check in with james torres on traffic this morning. >> let's take you out to san francisco. we've got a pretty serious crash there this morning. this is northbound 101 at the 280 connector. this is if you're coming out of the peninsula going into san francisco, just shy of the mission district. we do have a deadly crash there. it's been we know crews have been on the scene for quite a little bit here. they're still waiting for the coroner's office to remove the body from the area, but they have all lanes northbound on 101 shut down right now. in the meantime, you can see if we zoom in just a little bit. you can see how much it looks like purple, red, essentially telling you that that part of the roadway is now closed. so we'll keep an eye on that. that usually takes a while to reopen. so we will let you know the second that happens. but we know fatal crash there. again all lanes northbound on 101 right at
6:19 am
that 280 connector closed right now just passing bayshore boulevard through the bayview district. just short, just shy of the mission district. so we'll keep you posted as soon as they get that cleared up and they reopen that roadway. as far as getting into san francisco from the east bay, no problems now on the bay bridge toll plaza. 618 we will pass it off to steve paulson to talk about our weather for today and the weekend. >> all right. thank you sir. we'll get right to it here. our pattern really only has subtle day to day changes. thunderstorms have made it up to tahoe. lake tahoe in and around that. so any travel plans up there this weekend? keep an eye on that. i mean, it's not hot, but boy, these thunderstorms really pop up. but here's the key for us. another here's one low coming in. see these little spins in the atmosphere right there. here comes the next one. they just keep our beat going right along. that means we just really not changing all that much. and the thunderstorm activity. las vegas, northern arizona and up along the sierra as well. we'll continue. this pattern is locked in. i really don't see it changing all that much. only subtle changes day to
6:20 am
day. and it looks like maybe even cooler pattern by this time next week if everything falls into place as advertised. so, you know, early projections on may being above average and june being above average are just now falling by the wayside, just not happening, at least not yet for june. west southwest 20. decent breeze, but look at the water temps in san francisco, half moon bay and one of the monterey boys 56, 57, 58. that's much warmer. that's because those lows coming down give a little south wind, and that's clearing out the fog earlier for san jose, the peninsula, hayward, union city yet to the north. man they're stuck in that soup for a lot longer than others. 50s on the temps about as close as you can get. i mean take your pick. boulder creek and felton 53. but santa cruz, 56. gilroy is 56. santa clara, cupertino 56. saratoga says, hey, we're 57, 36, 40 up in truckee and south lake tahoe. reno is at 50. there will be another round of thunderstorms. they've been moving up north all week long. and yesterday here they went and we'll put in a lightning. you can see them firing up here so
6:21 am
they die down at night. pick up again in the afternoon. and i wouldn't expect this to continue. and now they're moving northeast as well. so just keep an eye on that. also around las vegas i mean it was lit up. look at boom boom. so if you're heading to las vegas, northern arizona, grand canyon, a lot of thunderstorm activity a little early in the season. this is more like june or july or august, not early june. look at the amount. so just depends where you are. there could be some half inch amounts here in a brief period of time. same old song and dance for us though. morning low clouds sticks around a little longer. north burns off a little sooner. south temperatures though, kind of stuck here 6070 to 80. don't see really much change until maybe monday. could get a quick pop on the inland temps and right back down they go. >> all right. thank you steve. well, heckling in sports is nothing new but personal attacks fueled by gambling are now targeting athletes, and it's taking a serious toll. we'll tell

forecast profit forecast, blaming tariffs and uncertainty in the economy. lululemon also facing more competition in that business athleisure wear. we'll have all your business news coming up. thank you for waking up with us here on mornings on two. i'm pam cook. >> pam it's friday. >> thank goodness. >> yes it is. good morning i'm dave clark. it's friday, it's june 6th and steve paulson it very light breeze this morning but still cloud cover. >> lot of cloud cover a little drizzle out there coast and in the city here. but once that clears the sun pops out sooner in this pattern. peninsula south bay, parts of the east bay. but boy it stays a lot longer. areas to the north, but temperatures really not changing all that much. i don't think we're getting this much drizzle, but a couple 100 would certainly make sense. there's been about 0.05 up at tilton park. so i mean some of the higher elevations could get 0.03 to 0.05 50s on the temps. they're just not budging at all up in the mountains though. it took a while, but eventually they arrived. thunderstorms just

going bonkers over south lake tahoe and a and of course southward along the crest of the sierra. same old song and dance. big morning fog bank, some drizzle. otherwise clear. sunny later. no big changes. the wind always picks up in the afternoon. this pattern 6070s to low 80s for most. all right, james torres here. we have to go to the city, i think. >> yeah, we're going to stick around in the city. steve, good morning to you. we want to talk about a fatal crash that happened there a little earlier this morning. still very much on the scene. we do know the coroner's office is on scene as well. hoping to remove the body. and then once that happens, then the crews can work on cleaning up whatever mess is left behind and reopen some of these lanes. this is at 101 northbound, right at the 280 connector. so if you're coming out of the peninsula going into the city of san francisco, that is where you would see this accident. you see the purple letting you know all lanes are closed in the northbound direction of 101. usually when this happens, and usually once they get that body removed, they'll slowly start to reopen lane by lane once they start cleaning it up. luckily,
6:33 am
there isn't so much traffic going on right now, but there is a tiny bit of a backup you would hope they have that cleaned up within the next hour. before we get to that peak travel commute time. of course, friday, we know that doesn't. we don't get too many cars on the roadways here, but that can still cause some problems for anyone heading into the city. we'll keep an eye on that throughout the morning. 632 we'll go back to pam on the desk. >> all right. thank you, james. and investigation has begun into a big fire in san francisco this morning. that fire started at about 2:00 this morning. forced people from their homes. ktvu tori gaines joining us now in studio with the details. >> tori good morning pam. these flames were intense and to see it happen in the center of the city is always harrowing. the fire sparked in one house and quickly spread to several others. more than 140 firefighters went to the scene. now, these are the kinds of fires that can wreak havoc on a city with buildings and homes so close together. just take a look. this video, shared by citizen, shows huge flames just pouring out of that second story window at a row house on fifth
6:34 am
avenue near balboa and anza streets. the fire chief explains some of the complications crews faced as they battled the flames. >> they assisted everybody in evacuating that hose line through the front of the building to the rear and extinguished the fire. we placed ladders and assisted some some civilians out of the building. there were some challenges. we had a lot of overhead wires. we had one building that was under construction. and as you may know, this area has mostly three story buildings. wood frame right up against each other, zero lot line. so fire can extend really quickly. so our members did a fantastic job of making sure it didn't extend any further. >> now five excuse me, five buildings were affected by that fire and some 35 people have been displaced. now all of those buildings are currently uninhabitable, according to sfpd. and the red cross is currently assisting those who have been affected. and there are currently muni busses nearby serving as temporary evacuation
6:35 am
centers for those residents. now, we have also just learned that one cat died in the firefighter and died in the fire. excuse me. and one firefighter has also been injured. sfpd has confirmed that the fire is under investigation, but at this time, investigators are waiting for clearance to enter the homes as there is some concern the structures have been damaged enough to make it unsafe. dave. >> all right. thank you. tori. time now, 635. today is the last day on the job for san francisco police chief bill scott. now, scott has led the police department for eight and a half years and served under four different mayors. scott says he's grateful no police officer was killed in the line of duty while he was police chief, and he told ktvu he will always cherish the eight years he spent in san francisco. >> it has been challenging, you know, but it has been rewarding, very rewarding. it's been a great experience. you know, i have enjoyed this job and i know people, some people might
6:36 am
question like, how can you enjoy that with all the pressure and all this? i enjoy it because i love what i do. i love this profession. i love the city. >> now, chief scott is now heading back to los angeles. he will become the first chief of the newly formed los angeles metro transit police. san francisco's chief of public safety, paul yep will temporarily replace scott as police chief until city leaders select the next police chief. >> we're now hearing from the partner of high school math teacher who was killed in oakland in a crash following a chp chase. marvin boomer and nina woodruff were planning their future together. but that all changed in an instant when they were out for a walk on east 21st street, may 28th. she says her partner bravely pushed her to safety just seconds before he was killed in that horrific crash. >> without a doubt, he saved my life. and it's not surprising because that's how he was with me. i called him mr. wonderful. i don't know, i feel really
6:37 am
weird about surviving. i feel mixed emotions about surviving. and i'm also grateful for the gift. that he gave me. >> she's still recovering from the injuries to her arms, face, chest and legs. the driver is due back in court later this month to enter a plea on vehicular manslaughter. >> all right. time is 637. that leads us to james torres. and we have some traffic problems to tell you about this morning, james. >> yeah. not too much going on throughout the rest of the bay area, but we're really keeping our eye on what's going on here in san francisco. this is a northbound 101 at the 280 connector. if you're headed out of the peninsula, going into the city. there was a deadly crash there. we know the coroner's office is on the scene working to remove the body. i don't know how much progress is made there. we know caltrans is going to be making their way to the scene to try to clean up some of the mess that's left behind, debris and whatnot, so they can work on
6:38 am
reopening the roadways. now, chp notes that all the northbound lanes are blocked right now due to the crash. they still don't have an estimated time to reopen. i'm taking a look at some of the caltrans camera that really shows us only the southbound lane. traffic seems to be perfectly fine in that direction. but chp says it still has the northbound lanes closed shut down for now until they can remove the body and then clean up some of the mess, making sure the cars can pass by safely. we'll let you know as soon as that happens, and we can give you a better update. keep an eye an eye on that all morning long. but for now, at 6.38, we'll pass it on to steve, who's got some conversations about weather. >> oh, boy, do i. big, big fog bank again. no doubt about it, james. some drizzle in the city, some of the higher elevations. tilden park last 24 hours. picked up 0.05. so there's some drizzle in there. there's only a few breaks. southern end of the peninsula, then san jose, then south of that it feels right back in. so a lot of low clouds. it's slow to clear for areas to the north. it slows. it clears much sooner. along the peninsula
6:39 am
in san jose, around hayward, fremont. that's a pattern that's been the last couple of days. 6556 for the city. that low is above average here. those warmer ocean temps have a lot to do with the low on the coast. and in san francisco, 96 1903. it got hot back then. yeah, it did get hot back then. 47 the record low 1917 .70 on this date in 1988. and yes, there will be some drizzle higher elevations i would think santa cruz mountains. i don't think the city is getting 0.05, but there will be some areas of drizzle, especially along the coastal hills. there you can see the lows. they just keep spinning and spinning and there they are. there's one right there spinning. here comes the next one right here. and as long as these come in this time of year, that's all it takes to keep our pattern kind of stuck. so there's not much is changing here. only subtle day to day changes. the highs trying to build in. but i think it only lasts for about a day and a half. and that will be on sunday into monday. and then it will come right back down again, maybe way down by the end of the week. next week. 50s on the
6:40 am
temps. i mean, everyone's within a degree or two. it looks like thunderstorms been moving north all week long. and yesterday they did it. they fired up over lake tahoe and boy did they ever. lightning really took off here. so if you're heading up the mountains it will be sunny, right? know, maybe in the morning, but in the afternoon. look at that. it just bubbles up big time. so watch out for that. not only for that, but it will continue. looks like not only today into the weekend and early next week with drizzle for us at the coast and in the city we get a same old song and dance. there's just not a lot changing here. the wind picks up in the of imay and it's going to continue for a while here in june, i think 60, 70 to 80 on the temps pretty close to average, slightly below for some. a little pop on monday, then right back down on tuesday. >> all right steve thank you. time 640. the next time you go to costco things may look different and be a lot faster. we'll tell you about a high tech twist being tested in those stores in our fox local zip trips are back today right here on ktvu fox two. our next stop, richmond.

launching a new initiative to improve the reading levels of students around the state. governor newsom the intdu golden state literacy plan in compton. it will send more than a thousand reading coaches to high schools in high need around the state, and expanding after school programs to help students bounce back from setbacks during the pandemic. and the san mateo county board of supervisors voted unanimously to issue a notice of intent to remove to sheriff christina corpus. the first step in a very long and complicated process. this comes two months after voters in san mateo county gave supervisors the power to remove the sheriff in a special election. the sheriff corpus denies the accusations of misconduct, saying they're unfounded, biased and politically motivated. >> israel's prime minister says the war in gaza, quote, will not stop until hamas is wiped out.
6:46 am
prime minister benjamin netanyahu acknowledged that israel supports an anti-hamas palestinian group within the gaza strip. several humanitarian workers and palestinians have accused some of these groups of criminal activity, including stealing from aid trucks. the conflict is prompting the united nations to call for a two state solution. >> what is the alternative? is it a one state solution in which either the palestinians are expelled or the palestinians will be forced to live in their land without rights? >> now, this comes as israeli airstrikes continue along the gaza strip. two explosions yesterday reportedly killed nine people in gaza city. >> our time is now 646. happening today. there are events around the world marking this 81st anniversary of the day that allied troops landed on the beaches in normandy, france. d-day marked the beginning of the end of world war two and the
6:47 am
fall of nazi germany. about 160,000 allied troops landed on those beaches in france on june 6th, 1944, one of the biggest d-day events today will take place on those same beaches in normandy. veterans have gathered to honor the 4400 allied troops who were killed. >> nvidia is looking to expand its headquarters in santa clara. the tech company is interested in bulldozing an older building nearby and replacing it with bigger and more modern offices. the proposed building is west of nvidia's headquarters there on saint san tomas expressway. it would also have a parking structure with about 29,000 parking spots. some new tech could speed up your next costco trip. the warehouse chain is testing out a scan and go system. members will be able to scan and pay for items with their phones, then show a digital receipt to a worker on the way out. this is very similar to a system sam's club has been using for several

years. costco says its version is being well adopted by shoppers so far. i have to say i feel bad. i feel like this is definitely replacing employees. their self checkouts at costco now. now there aren't as many people checking your card when you walk in, you just scan your own card. so now you're going to scan your own purchases. >> that technology. all right. we do have to check something. it's our commute this morning. and there are some things that are not so nice happening in some areas. james. >> yeah, for the most part throughout the rest of the bay area, especially on the east bay, not too many problems to report to you, but we are keeping an eye on what's going on in san francisco coming out of the peninsula. this is the northbound side of 101 as you connect to 280. this is a somewhat of a shot of it that's showing the southbound side, and that's showing you for the most part, the southbound lane is moving along just fine. so northbound side, if you're heading into the city that you're going to see some slowdowns. in fact, i think the lanes are all still closed at
6:49 am
this point here. we no corners on the scene. it is a deadly crash. a coroner's on the scene and removed the body. we'll let you know once that happens and once all those lanes reopen, i'm going to take you down into the south bay as well. 85 is seeing a little bit of a slowdown. it's not reflected on this map here, but according to some chp notes, there was one car that spun out of control. there was a woman who hurt her knee in the crash. they are still on the scene here. they're still a little bit of a mess on the ground, so they're hoping to clean that up, get that moving before the commute builds up. all of which we will keep you updated on and let you know when it all looks a little bit better. 649 this morning, let's pass over to steve paulson on the weather desk. >> all right. thank you, sir. we'll get to it here. our pattern is remarkably stable with only subtle day to day changes. this is called the water vapor. and you can see the circulation is coming down. there's one that's pretty far offshore. but here comes another one that goes either parallel to the coast or close enough. and these keep a couple things happening. they've warmed the water temps up about san francisco down to santa cruz and monterey. so the overnight lows
6:50 am
are running warmer. but it also keeps that fog bank in place. so this is a really a locked in pattern here. nice to mild to warm here a big big fog bank. but it does peel back a little sooner because of this wind around san jose sunnyvale menlo park san i mean they're 59 degrees. union city 61, hayward 59, petaluma, santa rosa 53. even saint helena 54. that's because the fog lingers a lot longer in this pattern to the north than it does for the peninsula. and around the 880 corridor around hayward down to fremont burns off much sooner. here, look at the lightning just going bonkers now. and it's even lifted a little northward. so if i'm heading up to susanville, i'm heading up. well watch out thunderstorms there. quincy as well. bernie. so anybody traveling up there, taking the rv, going fishing, hiking. you just keep an eye on the sky here. these thunderstorms. i mean, this is a little unusual for early june, no doubt about it. but some of these amounts are pretty impressive here. so just a heads up there for us. drizzle some being reported in the city. so it's the same old same old song and dance. big
6:51 am
morning fog bank. some drizzle otherwise clear but sunny later. no big changes. the breeze picks up in the afternoon. 60, 70, 80. don't really see a lot of change here. maybe a little warmer inland on monday, then right back down tuesday. dave. >> all right steve thank you. time now 650. as we get older, loneliness becomes a big deal. but pets can help by offering comfort, companionship, even lead to better health. coming up, we'll tell you why. the right pet may be just what senior citizens need. and after a two year pause this weekend, california's recreational salmon fishing season reopens. but just for a short time. the catch you'll want to know about before you cast your line.
