ahead today. good morning. >> good morning. dave and pam. california leaders have asked the federal court to step in and intervene to remove the military from los angeles in the wake of several days of protests that have happened there denouncing immigration enforcement actions in that city, president trump commandeered more than 2000 national guardsmen this week, and has decided to send in 700 active duty marines to los angeles, he says, to keep the peace. defense secretary pete hegseth says the administration is prepared to do something similar if there are protests like this in other cities. >> part of it is getting ahead of a problem so that if in other places, if there are other riots in places where law enforcement officers are threatened, we would have the capability to surge national guard there if necessary. >> maybe we are part of a national experiment to determine how far the federal government can go in reaching in and taking over power from a governor, power from a local jurisdiction.

>> so should a military presence become the norm for policing protests on u.s. streets? that's one of the questions behind the lawsuit brought by california against the trump administration on this matter. a federal judge in san francisco will hear the case at 130 this afternoon. >> judge breyer has got a very tricky problem in front of him. you've got a situation which is nearly unprecedented. i think he's going to ask very skeptical questions of both sides. i think he's going to try to figure out a middle path. >> and while there's no way to know what the court could decide on this, legal experts will instead focus on what kind of questions the judge asks during the hearing today for clues, a likely question for the department of justice attorneys why the president didn't send the national guard during the january 6th insurrection during his first term, but found it necessary to deploy them for these immigration protests. it's also not clear why california's lawsuit was filed in district

court in san francisco, when it could have also been filed in los angeles or sacramento. back to you. >> all right, ali, thank you. time now, 503. a $25,000 reward is being offered by the fbi for information leading to the arrest of a woman who they claim assaulted an fbi officer in concord during a protest outside of an immigration courthouse. fbi agents believe the woman stole an officer's badge during that incident. now, one immigration attorney says he saw at least four fbi agents working with ice agents. immigration advocates say it's unusual to see the two agencies working together. but an fbi agent that we talked to says it has the authority to enforce immigration law, and they are supporting homeland security. >> with this current focus on immigration enforcement, with the administration, that it is something that we have begun participating in a bit more regularly than we have in the past. >> now, the fbi says anyone who

becomes violent towards federal agents will be prosecuted. the fbi couldn't confirm if any agents were hurt during that incident in concord. they're offering $25,000 to anyone who can identify the woman, as well as anyone who can recover the stolen badge. >> a curfew for downtown los angeles appears to be working. mayor karen bass ordered a second consecutive overnight curfew that expires at 6:00 this morning. it covers a small section of downtown los angeles that has been the site of vandalism. observers say the situation overnight has been calmer than earlier in the week. police arrested more than 200 people from tuesday into early wednesday morning. >> a week ago, everything was peaceful. things began to be difficult on friday when raids took place. >> ice is defending its actions after agents used their cars to pin a suspect in an east los angeles neighborhood. witnesses say authorities rammed the suspect's car and took him into

custody after firing some type of smoke grenade or tear gas. by this weekend, 700 marines are expected to join 2100 national guard troops in los angeles. >> our time now. 505 we're following breaking news overseas this morning. a plane in india crashed shortly after taking off with more than 240 people on board. and the police now believe there are no survivors. the boeing 787 dreamliner went down just five minutes after taking off from an airport in ahmedabad, in western india. the air india plane was bound for london's gatwick airport, india's civil aviation minister says rescue teams are mobilized. medical aid is being sent to the neighborhood where the plane went down. now ktvu will stay on top of this breaking story and report on any new developments as soon as we get them. >> a san francisco supervisor says two palestinian humanitarian activists were detained at sfo, supervisor bilal mahmud tells ktvu that the

pair had valid visas but for some reason were invalidated on entry without cause. they're being sent back to the middle east. supervisor mahmud was at the airport with their jewish sponsors, whose synagogue they were scheduled to speak at today, were working to get more information from customs and border protection. >> time is now 507. the trump administration has launched a sign up site for its new $5 million immigration gold card. the gold card would allow wealthy foreigners and give them a new path to citizenship. now the card is not available yet, so right now people can only join a wait list. the president said once it's available, it would grant the same privileges as a green card. the white house hasn't said when that card will become available. >> travel is about to get easier with an iphone. apple announced the new operating system this fall will allow you to add your passport to your digital wallet. now, it's only for domestic travel. international travelers will still need a physical

passport, and the tsa warns travelers should still bring that real id just in case. >> believe it or not, the city will probably get above 59 today. no three days in a row 58, 59, 59 going 62 still for below average though, but santa rosa to 81. i don't by the weather service saying 87. concord to 84 and san jose a cool 70 yesterday 76 today. that's the spirit. san jose east san jose will be closer to 78. still a robust breeze, i'll say at the altamont pass. now it's isolated, but still west southwest to 40mph. my goodness. concord has a south wind at 22 fairfield back to normal here, which is just west southwest at 20. but there's still some blustery conditions, and it will be another breezy day because of the lack of low clouds. lows have dipped. menlo park 4649 petaluma, santa rosa, upper 40s. napa airport in there. sunnyvale is even at 49. san carlos is in there. these are the coolest

military response to protests in los angeles. the state is asking for a restraining order that would limit the national guard and u.s. marines to only guarding federal properties in los angeles. the administration argues there's no legal basis to block federal troops from assisting ice agents in their operations. >> well, a meeting between san jose leaders and community members became tense and heated over a new homeless shelter. the city of san jose plans to convert the bristol hotel on bascom avenue, near campbell, into a shelter for transitioning single mothers and elderly women. however, some neighbors say they don't want a shelter in their area. they say they plan to file legal action against the city to stop it. >> a 7-eleven in oakland was robbed three times in the span of a few hours on tuesday. the robberies at the store on grand avenue and mendana boulevard happened tuesday morning at 830, and again that night at 930. then two hours later, one employee was robbed of personal items. one clerk told us

employees are leaving because the store has been robbed so many times. and they did tell us the store is installing upgraded security cameras. brian wilson, the co-founder and songwriter of the beach boys, has died- [music]. >> they keep their boyfriends warm at night. i wish they all could be california blue. >> wish they are. wilson formed the beach boys in southern california in the early 60s with his brothers. they became one of the most successful bands in american history, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. wilson's health deteriorated in recent years. he was 82 years old. >> our time is now 514. an east bay technology and staffing company agreed to pay a $72,000 fine over allegations it advertised job openings that were only available to foreign

workers who had h-1b visas. the justice department says epic solutions stated in several job ads that the role was restricted based on citizenship status, although it's paying that fine. the company, based in pleasant hill, is not acknowledging any wrongdoing. >> president trump says he plans to sign a series of resolutions today to revoke california's nation leading vehicle emissions standards. now, the president's signature will roll back california's authority to set stricter electrification rules for passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. it would also affect several other states that have adopted similar rules. california attorney general rob bonta has said he plans to sue if the resolutions are signed. the bay area air quality management district has reached an agreement with chevron to increase air monitoring data transparency. now, the district requires bay area refineries to have systems that measure pollution near their property lines. but in 2023, the district found all five bay area

refineries did not meet that requirement. chevron is the first refinery to be brought back to compliance, and will now be required to implement more sensitive pollution monitors and provide public access to that information in real time. >> our time now 515. major league cricket making its debut today. the league is launching its new season with a weekend of games at the oakland coliseum. here are some of the players. the league's newest team is the san francisco unicorns. it's home turf. the coliseum oakland mayor barbara lee says this will be a big moment for the city of oakland. >> this is the first time cricket of this level has been played on the west coast of america. >> and now we're beginning to bring that global energy and that global focus to oakland in a way that has never been done before. this isn't only about a game, it's about putting oakland on the map in a new way. >> now, in today's debut game, the san francisco unicorns will

breeze and blustery. not as windy at travis, though, when they had gusts to 40 yesterday. 49 petaluma napa airport, 46 menlo park, sunnyvale and san carlos upper 40s santa rosa is in there as well. low 50s martinez, concord, san jose livermore is close as well, so noticeably cooler. lows here. truckee 32 south lake tahoe at 35. thunderstorm activity. because the wind in the upper atmosphere turned a little more west southwest, that pushed that moisture out of the picture. so it's much quieter than it was a couple days ago, that's for sure. one day we warm up today, and next day we'll cool down. these systems keep coming and keep coming in. keep. i think they'll continue the rest of the month off and on, and really kind of keep us from getting too warm here. and you don't have to go far to find hot temps, you know. of course, head up to redding or south, but it's summer gets hot up there this time of year. no good, no doubt, but not for us here. so cool pattern and one of these systems will start to swing in late friday into saturday for another little cooldown. but for today, pamela, wouldn't it be nice? >> oh.

on two at 522. the purple heart, one that belonged to a world war two veteran, vanished from his family years ago, but recently it was found in georgia inside of its case in a junkyard. >> inscribed on the medal was the name david t mcmahon, and with no other clues, strangers decided to launch a search for his family. as ktvu tom vacar reports, the search led them right here to the bay area. >> this medal, a purple heart awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed while serving in the military, was found in a newnan, georgia auto salvage lot under the seat of a forklift. >> i would say it's a minor miracle that it ever got found in the first place. >> the salvage yard employee turned the medal over to the

local vfw post. how it got into a georgia scrap yard is yet unknown, but the vfw commander knew exactly what to do. he took it to a local historian who was able to find the medal recipient inscribed with the name david t mcmahon, who was a resident of michigan when he died. lieutenant mcmahon was a lieutenant and world war two p-51 mustang pilot in the three 48th army air corps fighter group. he died in a crash in the philippines in 1945. 80 years ago. >> that medal, when it was first given to me here, the only thing i cared about at that point was getting it to somebody who was part of the family, because that is where it belongs. >> that somebody was a niece of the medal recipient who lives in bolinas. >> well, my uncle died three years before i was born, so i don't really know that much about him. in these last two weeks, i've learned more than i ever knew. i guess i had a lot

continue around the country. a federal judge will decide whether the president is overstepping his authority by sending in the national guard and the marines. reporter doug luzader has more now from washington. good morning doug. >> good morning. this comes down to a question of how these forces are deployed and what their real mission is, with california arguing that they cannot be used for law enforcement. with more flare ups on the streets of los angeles. the national guard troops around federal buildings, and marines who are training and waiting in the wings will be the central issue in a federal court today at the kennedy center last night, president trump was greeted with both cheers and boos as he attended a performance of les mis on the way in. he defended his actions in california. >> we didn't bring in the national guard and the marines. you would probably have a city that was burning to the ground. >> but in court today, california will call trump's actions an unprecedented power grab, arguing that the national

guard and the marines cannot be used to assist immigration enforcement efforts. >> this was provoked by the white house. >> the city and state leaders say raids by ice agents touched off the protests in the first place, and demonstrations have popped up in other cities as well. the white house maintains the president is well within his authority to protect federal buildings and agents. >> president trump will never allow mob rule to prevail in america. >> and polling suggests immigration enforcement is a strong issue for the president. >> it's the issue that really has sustained republicans politically for some time. the big question is, is there a point where they could go too far? could they be too aggressive? >> and that really underscores the competing images. ice agents carrying out their mission to deport illegal immigrants, and the sometimes violent protests that have cropped up in response. the administration has called california's lawsuit a political stunt. back to you

guys. >> all right. doug luzader in washington. thank you. time now, 5.33. about 500 of the national guard troops sent to los angeles. and the protests there are being trained to accompany ice agents on immigration operations. the military says some of the troops have already taken part in those missions. officials say it's too early to tell how long this will last, but they insist the service members will not be involved in making arrests. >> so strictly for the protection of the federal personnel and the protection of the federal building. they're allowed to temporarily detain and wait for law enforcement to come and arrest them. they do not do any arrests. they are strictly there to detain, to await, for law enforcement to come and handle those demonstrators. >> the president trump authorized the deployment of 4000 national guard troops and 700 marines.

>> san francisco's acting san francisco police chief answered questions about the immigration protests during his first week on the job. chief paul said he was closely monitoring the protests. he spoke with police commissioners about reports of use of force by officers following sunday and monday's demonstrations. >> you said there were 20 uses of force and they were all baton strikes and personal body weapons. >> i'm not saying that it's definitive, but that's the information that i have up to this point. >> the department is already looking ahead to this weekend with more protests scheduled. police have plans to avoid confrontations that could lead to people on both sides being hurt. hundreds of demonstrations are expected in san francisco and around the country on saturday. protesters are calling june 14th no king's day. activists across the country say they want to push back against the president's policies to counter his planned military parade. dozens of bay area communities are expected to host

rallies and marches, including oakland, san francisco, san jose and also in small cities including sonoma, fremont and palo alto. >> temperatures will bump up a little bit today. they've been unseasonably cool here. santa rosa will go up to 81. the city will break through from the upper 50s for the last three days. i'll go 62, although i'm a little nervous with that because there's a lot of low clouds there. concord from 75 cool degrees in june to 84 today. that's a little closer to average, and san jose will bump you up six. there's still a decent breeze. speaking of concord south to 22, travis is southwest 20. there's gusts to 3540, though, up near the altamont pass, right above the. right above the claremont. there 47 cool degrees. relative humidity there in the fog, 99%. and we're getting a southwest wind to 17mph. higher elevations mount veeder in the 60s, but the oakland hills, 47 and boulder creek is a brisk 45. so without the low cloud deck, we've really

cooled off. this pattern is not changing much. i've been this way since march and april and may. usually that carries forward into june, and that's exactly what's happening. these weak little systems come in and that's all it takes. this time of year when you lose one or you get a little high pressure to build in, you'll warm up slightly. and that's what we'll have today. thunderstorms have pushed off out of the area, but there's still an onshore direction. my goodness. i mean it'll still be you'll still get 20, 25, maybe 30 in the wind prone areas. so with that in place it's tough to warm up too much. but we will. you can see the 40s on the lows. saint helena's in there. napa, santa rosa, petaluma, san carlos, menlo park, 4648, in sunnyvale. so there's some cooler lows, and novato is running seven degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. petaluma for napa airport six. so it feels a little cooler to you? it is. and speaking of much cooler up in the mountains 30. truckee 30. truckee south. lake tahoe at 35. even minden down to 39. overall, though, more sun today. a little warmer than the system comes in tomorrow and we just send it right back down again. so highs today, 5060s by the coast, 70s and 80s inland.

last year, and major league cricket says it's investing millions into the experience. we heard from mayor barbara lee yesterday. she says this will be worth the watch to bring one of the world's most popular sports to one of the sport's oldest stadiums. >> and now we're beginning to bring that global energy and that global focus to oakland in a way that has never been done before. this isn't only about a game, it's about putting oakland on the map in a new way. >> so you'll get to see the unicorns tonight. they'll face off against the washington freedom at 6:00. this will be one of nine matches starting from tonight through next wednesday. we also heard from the mayor of fremont, who says the sport is popular at local parks. so bart is providing what they call in service. unicorn fan trains from fremont to coliseum station tonight. tickets for the match still very much available, not just tonight, but for the entire next week. the cheapest one, around

on two. it's 542. some of the stories we're following for you this morning. a federal court hearing is scheduled for today in san francisco. in california's efforts to block the trump administration's military response to protests in los angeles. now, the state is asking for a restraining order that would limit the national guard and u.s. marines to only guarding federal properties in los angeles. the administration argues there's no legal basis to block federal troops from assisting ice agents in their operations. >> president trump says he'll sign a series of resolutions today to revoke california's nation leading vehicle emission standards. the president's signature will roll back california's authority to set tougher rules for electric electrification for passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. rob bonta, the california attorney general, said he will sue after president trump signs those resolutions. >> the bay area air quality management district has reached an agreement with chevron to

increase air monitoring data transparency. chevron will now be required to implement more sensitive pollution monitors and provide public access to that information in real time. oakland police have confirmed that the looting at a shoe store tuesday night is not related to the protests in the hours before. police say about 30 people were caught on camera ransacking the shake shoe store near 34th and international boulevard. video shows the crowd stealing items and running out with arms, armfuls of merchandise just down the block. a vehicle was set on fire. officers say they arrested one person carrying stolen goods. they are searching for more people who were involved. the store was closed yesterday as the owner cleaned up the damage. >> a lot of boxes everywhere. garbage everywhere. i think it's just stupid. honestly. with us as business owners having to deal with the extra stuff with our robbing and looting, well, you have hispanic workers here, people that they can't even work

no more. they're closed for the day. so they lost money, you know, and all the other owners here that are scared. >> oakland mayor barbara lee said anyone trying to use the peaceful protests as a cover for violence and crime will be prosecuted. >> time now. 544. a 7-eleven store in oakland that's been repeatedly robbed in the target of thieves was recently hit three times in one day. the robberies at that 7-eleven store on grand avenue happened tuesday morning at 830. then again, that night at 930, then again two hours later. one employee was robbed of personal items. a clerk told us that employees are leaving because that store has been robbed so many times. they told us the store is installing improved and upgraded security cameras. >> a san rafael school board member is accused of sexually assaulting a student when he worked as an education assistant. police arrested 22 year old rhoda earlier this week. investigators accuse us of

having inappropriate contact with a 16 year old while he was a paraeducator at marin's community school in 2023. rodas was elected to the school board in december. he has been suspended and his case continues. >> our time is now 545. the oakland city council just approved a balanced two year budget after months of very contentious hearings. most notably, the new budget will keep all firehouses around the city open. it will also include funding to help increase the number of sworn police officers in the city of oakland, as well as preventing staff layoffs. the city had been facing a huge budget deficit to hundreds of millions of dollars. the new plan calls for using revenue from a new parcel tax that voters will decide on next year. to close that deficit. the oakland mayor, barbara lee, issued a statement about the budget, says it reflected many of her goals. she added, i also

want to thank the council for including $3 million in funding for business incentives, another 1 million for economic activation zones and an extra $1 million for community safety ambassadors in business corridors across the city. >> an advocate in san francisco is on a hunger strike, demanding the city provide more services to help those in need. >> so, as a statement of solidarity, i've decided to embark on a hunger strike and not eat again until the funding is restored. >> the founder of open door legal, a nonprofit that offers legal aid, organized a rally at the front steps of city hall. mayor lurie's proposed budget cuts include eliminating this particular legal aid program. >> if open door legal didn't exist, i would be homeless. my mental health would be drastically affected, and i would still be under a depression. >> now, mayor lurie's office tells us here at ktvu, his $15.9

billion proposed budget addresses an historic $800 million deficit. city agencies are preparing for deep cuts and potential layoffs. affected services include 311 calls and the community ambassador program. supervisors will work on the budget through june. the mayor needs to sign it by the end of july. a marin county city has approved its largest operating budget in its history. belvedere approved a $14.2 million operating and capital budget this week. according to the marin ij, the city had to tap into reserve reserves to pay for a project to stabilize beach road. after the trump administration rescinded a multi-million dollar grant that would have funded the project. other expenses include a contract with the tiburon fire protection district. >> our time is now 548. a meeting between san jose leaders and community members became very heated over the topic of a new homeless shelter. the city wants to convert the bristol hotel on bascom avenue, near

campbell, into a shelter for single mothers and elderly women who are transitioning out of homelessness. city leaders say that location is a prime location because of a school nearby that children can go to easily, but the project has faced backlash from community members who worried that the shelter will pose safety risks. >> we did approve a strategy, as i've said repeatedly, for hotel conversions, because it's a good way and easy way to bring people indoors at a low cost. >> we need to find a lawyer and file a lawsuit. this isn't going anywhere. yeah, there's no vote. if you're moving in in august, we need to file now. >> community members say they feel they haven't had a say in making a decision. the people who oppose the shelter say they will file legal action against the city. time is 549. three more small businesses are opening in downtown san

jose 70. and the city three days in a row could not get over 60. 5859 yesterday, 59. oakland was only 62. we will bump it up. santa rosa to 81 and then the city. i'll go 62 today. i'm a little nervous by that, but concord, it doesn't take much to get from 75 to 84. and we'll do that today san jose up six. but still that's below average for this time of year. this is correct, i just looked this is at 1400 feet, 1400 west southwest altamont pass to 41mph. so there's still an onshore breeze or wind for some not as strong out towards the delta or the strait, but it's still there in place again, 2025 or so. you see, the water vapor shows these little spins in the atmosphere. and that's all it takes here to come in this time of year, to keep the fog machine rolling along and keep our temps on the cool side. it's been this way since march. i really don't think it's changing even into july, i really don't. i think we'll get a series of these. there's hints of a really deep one, deep system coming in around the 20th 21st. so something to watch out for

today, though, with less fog, you know, less fog. we're getting cooler lows, 40s on a lot of these temps. saint helena is now 46 degrees. menlo park is already in there. low 50s. martinez 49 degrees. so there's some cooler temps, no doubt. 43 in occidental kenwood's at 42. that's cool for this time of year, no doubt. bodega bay, point reyes, bolinas in there. tiburon, all upper 40s. so you know, this is a much cooler pattern. sonoma's at 43 truckee, 32, south lake tahoe, 35 minden's down to 36. in reno at 43. so a little bump up on those temps. i mean, let's face it, angle, the sun is high, the days are long, but we'll just get near average to even slightly below on these highs. and then tomorrow this system swings in there and starts to usher in another little cooling trend. so really no big changes all the way for the next few days. so wouldn't it be nice to get a little more sun? yes, we will today and temperatures inland will bump up, although coast in the city really not that much. upper 50s 60s there, but some 80s inland. a little cooler tomorrow. and then we just kind of level it off and just keep it

is now 556. this pride month is a special one for one of the oldest gay bars in san francisco. the cinch saloon just recently faced the risk of being closed, but new ownership has saved it. scott taylor is the beverage director at the harris restaurant nearby, but the cinch is long held a spot in his heart. he first visited that bar more than 20 years ago, occasionally bartending when they needed some help, and even had his first date with his partner there ten years ago. >> we feel more like caretakers than ownership, you know, we're here, the bar's been around for 50 years. we're going to try and keep it open for another 50. >> this street used to be full of gay bars. this is like the only place left. so we're i'm happy to see that it's going to hang on.

>> now, some of the regulars tell us the saloon gives many people a sense of safety and community and feels like a second home. our time is 557. an update from the north bay. a concert by andrea bocelli at a private estate in napa valley will move forward next week, but similar events will not. according to the press, democrat saint helena leaders upheld a permit for a 600 person dinner and concert planned for next tuesday. next friday at the monte olivos estate. the event is before bocelli sold out performances that weekend at the charles krug winery. neighbors were raising concerns that quiet private estates are now becoming commercial venues for events. a lawyer for monte olivas estate promises the winery will no longer hold large events after the concert. well, santa rosa's montgomery village is about to get a new ice cream shop. the grand opening of a salt and

straw location is scheduled for next friday. it will feature new flavors, including wild foraged berry pie, wildflower honey and lemon chess pie, as well as tomato custard tart ice cream. the nearby avid coffee will provide cold brew samples in the morning. local musicians musicians will also be out there performing. time now. 559 san jose has signed off on a plan to build a new chick fil a restaurant, despite pushback to save a taqueria that right now sits on the same location. the planning department approved the proposal to build the fast food restaurant at race and west saint san carlos streets. the development will replace a parking lot and a small strip mall. the owner of the taqueria has been trying to gather enough support to try to block the development, saying his business will be forced out.

administration over this issue and over this lawsuit, and the issue of whether it is lawful and constitutional for the president to call up a state's national guard without a governor's permission. now, this comes in the wake of several days of protests against ice and immigration enforcement actions happening in los angeles. president trump commandeered more than 2000 national guardsmen and has decided to send in 700 active duty marines to los angeles. defense secretary pete hegseth says the administration is prepared to do the same if there are protests in other cities. and just as recently as last night, the president defended the decision to send the military to los angeles. >> we didn't do what we did, would be burning to the ground. >> deployment of marines on u.s. soil is an alarming escalation that undermines the values of democracy. >> should a military presence become the norm for policing protests on u.s. streets. that's one of the central questions behind the lawsuit brought by

california against the trump administration. >> is this something that that civilian law enforcement cannot handle? does it require the use of the military to carry out these police civilian policing tasks, these law enforcement tasks which our federal law forbids and has been something that has been taboo now for going back to the civil war. >> now, in a legal briefing filed yesterday in defense of its actions, the trump administration argued that the president does have authority over states, including their national guard troops, with or without the governor's consent, and that members of the military on the ground in los angeles are not involved in routine law enforcement, they say, but are instead tasked with protecting federal buildings and federal ice agents. back to you, pam. >> all right. thank you. ali. a curfew for downtown los angeles appears to be working in preventing vandalism. mayor karen bass ordered a second consecutive overnight curfew that expired moments ago at 6:00. it covers a small section of downtown los angeles that's

been the site of vandalism to businesses. observers say the situation overnight has been calmer than earlier in the week. police arrested more than 200 people from tuesday into early wednesday morning. >> a week ago, everything was peaceful. things began to be difficult on friday when raids took place. >> ice is defending its actions after agents used their cars to pin a suspect in an east los angeles neighborhood. witnesses say authorities rammed the suspect's car and took him into custody after firing some type of smoke grenade or tear gas. by this weekend, 700 marines are expected to join 2100 national guard troops in los angeles. >> our time now 605 a $25,000 reward, is being offered by the fbi for information leading to the arrest of a woman who they claim assaulted an fbi officer in concord during a protest outside of an immigration courthouse. fbi agents believe the woman stole the badge of an

officer during that incident. one immigration attorney says he saw at least four fbi agents working with the ice agents. immigration advocates say it's unusual to see the two agencies working together. but an fbi agent that we talked to says the fbi has authority to enforce immigration law, and they are supporting homeland security. with this current focus on immigration enforcement, with the administration, that it is something that we have begun participating in a bit more regularly than we have in the past. >> now, the fbi says anyone who becomes violent towards federal agents will be prosecuted. the fbi couldn't confirm if agents were hurt during that incident. in concord. they are offering $25,000 to anyone who can identify the woman, as well as anyone who can recover the stolen badge. it's now 606. we're following a developing story, pam. >> a passenger plane in india crashed shortly after takeoff

with more than 240 people on board. police now believe there are no survivors. the boeing 787 dreamliner went down just five minutes after taking off from an airport in western india. the air india plane was bound for london's gatwick airport. india's civil aviation minister says rescue teams. >> rescue teams have been mobilized. medical aid is being sent to this neighborhood, as you see on the screen now. ktvu will stay on top of this story. again, it's a breaking story in india and bring you any new developments as soon as we get them. >> as the state tries to tackle its affordability crisis, lawmakers are going on going for bills that are aimed to boost housing construction. some believe it's coming at the cost of rent protections. now, in recent weeks, lawmakers have pushed through bills that would speed up the permit process for apartments and allow for more housing to be built in urban areas. rental rights bills are facing an uphill battle. the

on to mahmoud khalil, a graduate student from columbia university at the center of a controversial detainment may soon be released. now, a federal judge ruled against the trump administration, barring authorities from keeping him in custody. he was arrested in march under president trump's crackdown on student protesters. the judge said his arrest was likely unconstitutional. if the trump administration does not appeal the ruling, khalil would be released tomorrow morning. the trump administration has launched a signup site for its new $5 million immigration gold card. the gold card would allow wealthy foreigners a path to citizenship. the card is not available yet, so right now people can just join a wait

list. the president says once available, it would grant the same privileges as a green card, but it will cost $5 million. the white house has not said when the card will become available. the u.s. army showcased some of the military might that's being brought to the capitol for the saturday's parade, marking the 250th birthday of the army. about 66,000 soldiers, 150 military vehicles and more than 50 aircraft will take part in the parade. about 200,000 people are expected to attend the event in washington, dc. security preparations are also underway. the cost of the parade is estimated to be between 25 and $45 million. and east bay congressman mark desaulnier tells us why he supports the military. he disagrees with that kind of expensive celebration. >> so you've got to ask what all of this is about. in this instance, it's a little frightening to see all these tanks and clear military

military says some troops have already taken part in these missions. officials say it's too early to tell how long this will last, but they insist that service members won't be involved in making arrests. >> strictly for the protection of the federal personnel and the protection of the federal building. they're allowed to temporarily detain and wait for law enforcement to come and arrest them. they do not do any arrests. they are strictly there to detain, to wait for law enforcement to come and handle those demonstrators. >> now, president trump authorized the deployment of 4000 national guard troops and 700 marines. >> san francisco's acting police chief answered questions about the immigration protests during his first week on the job, chief paul said he was closely monitoring the protests. he spoke with police commissioners about reports of use of force by

officers following sunday and monday's demonstrations. >> said there were 20 uses of force and they were all baton strikes and personal body weapons. >> i'm not saying that it's definitive, but that's the information that i have up to this point. >> the department is already looking ahead to this weekend with more protests scheduled, police have plans to avoid confrontations that could lead to people on both sides being injured. >> our time now. 634. the oakland city council approved a two year budget after months of very contentious hearings. most notably, the new budget will keep all firehouses across the city open. it will also include funding to help boost the number of sworn police officers, as well as prevent staff layoffs. now, the city had been facing a huge budget deficit about hundreds, several hundreds of millions of dollars. the new plan it calls on using revenue from a new parcel tax that voters will decide on next year to try to close that budget

deficit. now, oakland mayor barbara lee, in a statement said the budget reflected many of her goals. she said, i also want to thank the council for including $3 million in funding for business incentives, another 1 million for economic activation zones and an extra $1 million for community safety ambassadors in business corridors across the city. >> happening today. cricket in the coliseum, oakland's oldest sports stadium, will host a new sport for the first time. you're going to have a home team to root for and ktvu james torres is there in oakland with the details. good morning james. >> good morning. it's not just a first for the city of oakland. it's not even a first for california, but it is a first for the entire west coast here. that's because folks from the major league cricket, that's the league that has sanctioned that sanctioning the sport. they say that this will be the first time that cricket at this level will be played on this side of the

in their operations. president trump says he'll be signing a series of resolutions today to revoke california's nation leading vehicle emission standards. the president's signature will roll back california's authority to set tougher rules for electrifying passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. rob bonta, the california attorney general, said he will sue if president trump signs those resolutions. and in india, hundreds of people are believed to be dead after a plane crashed today, shortly after takeoff earlier this morning, a boeing 787 dreamliner went down shortly after taking off from an airport in western india. it was bound for london's gatwick airport. more than 240 people were on the plane at the time of the crash. authorities in india believe people on the ground were killed as well. >> a 7-eleven store in oakland that has been a frequent target

of thieves was recently hit three times in one day. the robberies at the store on grand avenue happened tuesday morning at 830, then again at 930 that night, and two hours later, one employee was robbed of some personal items. one clerk told us, now employees are leaving because the store has been hit so many times. they also told us the store is installing upgraded security cameras. >> time now. 645 a meeting between san jose leaders and community members became very heated over a new homeless shelter. the city wants to convert the bristol hotel on bascom avenue, near campbell, into a shelter for single mothers and elderly women transitioning out of homelessness. city leaders say that location is prime because of a school nearby that children can attend to easily. but the project has faced backlash from community members who worried that the shelter will pose safety risks. >> we did approve a strategy, as i've said repeatedly, for hotel

june pattern is going to continue. some of the forecast models are showing a unremarkably deep system for around the 21st official start to summer as the 20th. if that's the case, this is staying this way for a while here. i don't think it's going to change. we talked about this. you know, kind of you kind of watch what happens in april and may. is there a lot of fog? is there a strong wind. yes, yes on both. and it's carrying right over into june here. so i don't see a lot of change here. we do have 40s 50s some cool lows this morning. we've already bounced off those. i mean, the nights are so short now, but 30s up in the mountains. truckee 32, south, lake tahoe 35, south lake tahoe. yesterday's high temp was 78, warmer than any official site in the bay area. hard to believe for june 11th. a little warmer today, although i'm hard pressed to really buy into too much forecast. models are not handling the inland temps all that well, but coastal fog? not as much today. so that's why we had the cooler lows. but wouldn't it be nice to get a little more sun? and we will today, but that will allow temperatures to bump up, which has been so far below average to
