roberto gonzalez, we'll start though with sal in the traffic center. good morning sal. >> all right andre, good morning to you. it is a juneteenth holiday. our triple a traffic camera showing us traffic moving along pretty well here. and i think because of the federal holiday, we are going to continue to see very good conditions. i like what i see, kind of an unexpected treat on a thursday for your thursday morning commute. if you still do have to go to work at 630, let's find out about today's weather. here's roberta. >> good morning sal and hello everybody. as you are getting ready to step on out the door this morning, we do have pretty uniform temperatures, except santa rosa is now dipped into the high 40s. it's 54 in fremont, backing through newark across the bay. we're in the mid 50s from redwood city through redwood shores. 56 now in san jose. it is 57 degrees in concord. the winds have been breezy this morning, but this is nothing. it's going to be windy today. right now we do have wind gusts up to 25 at buchanan field. high temperatures with the cloud sun mix, especially
6:32 am
along the sea shore. 58 to 82 degrees. so much cooler than yesterday by 15 degrees in some neighborhoods. plus, this is our live weather camera. we are looking out towards calaveras reservoir. you see a little bit of a haze there. this is why we have an air quality advisory in effect, not for heat. it is for the haze. the blow off from last night's wildfire that burned in the east bay. some of those smoke particles got caught up in the wind flow. and where you see those yellow dots, that's where it will be a bit on the hazy side today. if you have respiratory ailments, make sure you take it slow. and if you have any exercising, do it on indoors. now, as far as your fire danger is concerned, this is the forecast where you see the yellow highlighted areas surrounding the bay area. well, that's nothing either. let's take a look at this. i want to clarify it for you. from thursday through sunday, elevated fire danger in the north bay, east bay and the santa clara valley. we have this trough that's going to draw down some cooler air mass. and with
6:33 am
that, the relative humidity is going to plummet. and when you have the increase in the winds, that promotes fire danger. we saw that last night. there are no more evacuation orders for neighborhoods in antioch near that fire that burned there. crews do say they now have the somerville fire mostly under control. ktvu james torres is now live in antioch to show us the damage left behind. and, james, people want to know, what's that pink stuff behind you? >> yeah, we'll talk about that. roberta. good morning to you. here, i want to first show you the hills behind me, because we're talking 290 acres worth of that grass burned overnight. that's what cal fire is telling us this morning. but it's that pink stuff that neighbors are now waking up this morning and wondering, how is this all going to get cleaned up? i mean, check it out. it is splattered just about everywhere in this neighborhood. you see it on the cars, you'll see it on mailboxes, garbage cans as well. it's just splattered here all over the place. it looks like fire retardant, meant for the hill fire, but carried by the

wind and dropped onto this neighborhood. we'll also show you what the fire looked like when it broke out last night. fire crews responding around 7:00 last night. those flames burned through some fences and threatened homes. but luckily, all of those houses were spared. we had a chance to talk to one neighbor this morning. she took us through her backyard and gave us a closer look at the damage left behind. she evacuated for two hours before coming back home and seeing the giant burn scar. >> i'm devastated because i'm really a nature lover and a plant person as you can see, and then, you know, because i have two side windows over there. so i always look out on the valley. so it's kind of devastating. so because all my bushes are dead. >> firefighters report four people were treated with smoke inhalation, and the bay area air quality management district is putting out an air quality advisory. you can still very much smell that smoke in the area at last check. cal fire says the fire is at least 50%
6:35 am
contained. that number will likely go up when we get an update in about an hour. how that fire started is still under investigation. how this all gets cleaned up. we'll hope to get an answer for a little later this morning. we're live this morning near antioch. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you james. hundreds of homeowners in the berkeley hills will soon have to follow new landscaping rules to reduce the risk of wildfires. the city council gave final approval tuesday night to require a five foot buffer zone around homes in neighborhoods near tilden park and panoramic hill. homeowners will have to clear all vegetation in those zones to help stop the spread of sparks and embers. however, the council also approved a delay for inspection requirements until may of next year. >> ktvu has learned authorities in oakland are investigating a series of break ins at businesses throughout the city. surveillance video shows one of the break ins. last weekend, the burglars pried open a lottery machine at a restaurant on east 12th street. owners say it's their fifth burglary in the past

6:37 am
put into increased ice enforcement is unimaginable, unprecedented. >> over the last several months, our clients who have been regularly complying with the terms of their supervision have experienced increased fear, anxiety, trauma and panic over having to check in in person with ice. >> the hotline has already fielded more than 1100 calls and helped confirm 20 incidents of immigration enforcement in the county, but it is only operating monday through friday, 6 to 6, and some people at the hearing want the county to extend staffing to after hours. >> faith leaders gathered at san francisco city hall to call on the mayor to restore funding for legal services. the proposed city budget cuts $4.2 million from legal aid. the group stood before the names of 900 people, who they say would lose their representation. if the city cuts that money, they say the move would make it harder for people who need help with name changes, adoptions and restraining orders for domestic abuse victims. >> we are asking. we are

demanding. we are hoping that our supervisors will do what our mayor did not, which is restore and ensure funding for to access for civil legal services for those most vulnerable san franciscans. >> the group also says hundreds of people could become homeless and thousands would lose money if they're unable to access low cost legal services. >> time now is 637. we want to head back over to sal to check in on. hopefully no problems for the commute. >> yeah. well, there is one, unfortunately. west 80 at san pablo dam road or san pablo avenue. pardon me, there is a crash there and they're getting it off the freeway. however, there's some slowing in el sobrante as you come down. but really the commute has been a lot lighter because today is a holiday for a lot of people. you can see the commute is light as you drive through most of the area here, including the bay

bridge at the toll plaza. usually we have a big backup today. the juneteenth holiday. a lot of people have the day off, and you can tell on the roads. 638 let's talk about today's weather. here's roberta. >> we want to start off with an air quality advisory in effect for the bay area today. this is not for the heat. yes. yesterday we did top off in the mid 90s in the east bay and even in the northern portions of the bay area, but it's from the smoke particles from last night's fire getting caught up in the upper atmosphere, not seeing any haze here at the golden gate bridge because we've been seeing a strong onshore push. and it's pushing that smoke away from the coast and the city. you can see that wind right now. strict westerly winds at sfo around the peninsula at 12 mile per hour. livermore now with a wind under ten miles per hour. but this is short lived. we do have wind gusts at 25 in buchanan field and 33 in the fairfield area. you can see the wind flow today. and with these winds, we are
6:40 am
going to see escalated fire danger. when you see the areas in yellow and red, that's when it's the most ominous. and it pretty much encompasses the bay area from the north bay into the east bay and the santa clara valley. now, right now we have temperatures 49 to 57 degrees. it is now 52 in oakland and 54 degrees in half moon bay. so temperatures were hot yesterday all the way up to 96 degrees. and now it is a decline. temperatures will average below normal for this time of year. and then you factor in the very windy conditions from this. this is an area of low pressure taking a nosedive into the bay area. as it does so it pulls down that dry cool air mass. no precipitation, but it lowers the relative humidity. and as the humidity drops, the temperature is going to drop. petaluma down 11 degrees, milpitas down 11 degrees. we have temperatures 58 to 82 degrees. we've got your full forecast is coming up in just a couple of minutes.
