sports. the 11:00 news starts now. >> next at 11. fire dangers in parts of the bay area. how crews are preparing to respond to any fire threat. and governor newsom's legal fight with president trump returns to district court. what next? what is next for california as a state alleges violations of a 19th century law. plus, san francisco leaders condemning anti-semitic attacks after hateful messages and death threats were written on the walls of a jewish owned business in the mission. >> the 11:00 news on ktvu fox two starts now. >> hello again. on this friday, i'm cristina rendon. we are monitoring a red flag warning happening this weekend in the north bay and wildfire dangers in the east bay. ktvu meteorologists roberta gonzalez starting our team coverage off tonight with a check of your forecast. >> and we have a bird's eye view from sutro tower looking out towards the golden gate bridge. so visibility is great this evening, even though we do have some clouds at 1300 feet. what we're monitoring very carefully are the winds. it's been a

blustery day currently. we do have winds up to 30mph in novato. oakland is sustained wind at 14. other notable winds? how about 32 mile per hour gusts at sfo, 24 mountain view and 22 at mineta international. okay, let's clock this together. you can see during the day tomorrow morning. first off, after sunrise, we still have blustery winds north of the golden gate bridge. then during the afternoon hours, these winds begin to ramp up along the sea shore up to 29 and half moon bay. we'll see stronger gusts as well. late day in the eastern portion of our bay area, as buchanan field should clock a wind up to about 24mph. winds begin to subside in the overnight evening hours, but the damage is already done. you combine those winds with the relative humidity that's pretty much high right now due to those low clouds that we have overhead, but those relative humidity numbers will drop dramatically during the daytime hours. we're anticipating

between 15 and 25%. that is why we have the elevated fire danger for the north bay, east bay and santa clara valley. next time around, christina, we'll talk about that red flag warning and the areas that should be concerned. >> okay, roberta, we'll see you then. we are also monitoring fires across the south bay and east bay. crews in santa cruz contained two vegetation fires. fire crews say this one started yesterday afternoon, caused by unauthorized cooking at the natural bridges state beach. crews arrived there and found a second fire that was in a sensitive area of vegetation east of the first fire. both of those fires were quickly put out and no one was hurt. crews in oakland have contained a vegetation fire burning near castlemont high school this afternoon. fire officials credit defensible space for preventing the flames from spreading to homes. they say no structures are threatened and no injuries were reported. people in the east bay tonight are on alert following concerns of the wind, those high temperatures and dry conditions. oakland fire says the rising temps coupled with

the dry brush are concerning, but crews have been planning and ready to go in case of a fire breaking out. alameda county fire says it's bringing in extra crews to be prepared this weekend. >> once we kind of hit thresholds in the fire season, you know, the door's kind of open up for, we need everybody that we can to respond to these incidents. the key with a lot of these wildfires is picking them up early and keeping them small. >> the elevated threat is expected to last through tomorrow. if you live in a high risk location, it is important to have a plan in place just in case there is a wildfire and know what the evacuation procedures are in your area. well, for the second night in a row, pga has cut the power to many customers in those high risk areas over concerns the company's power lines could spark a fire. ktvu tom vacar has the story. >> planned power shutoffs so-called psps are affecting a relatively small number of east bay customers, where high winds could blow a branch or a tree

into a power line, sparking a fire. that's because pg e's artificial intelligence weather system pinpoints the most likely areas for a tree fall, or a line short out. >> some customers are being restored. we expect some to be restored tomorrow as well. >> and modifications made to the grid now allow for smaller shutoff areas, affecting fewer customers. >> the number has gotten much smaller. the psps events are fewer and far between. >> but, says pg and e, another significant wind event may cause more planned outages on saturday at 8 or 9 a.m. >> here in the bay area, just 68 customers in alameda county are being notified of the potential of a second wave of psps. >> beyond planned outages, it's awfully windy everywhere in the region, and that can be a recipe for a fire anywhere at any time. though unlikely, a tree into a power line cannot be ruled out

elsewhere. >> that being said, that doesn't mean that we're out of the woods right now. we've got increased wind speeds, we've got low humidities. >> even cooler. high winds still suck the moisture out of tall bone. dry grasses. super easy to ignite. >> we've got humidity in in the low 20s right now and wind speeds even here in santa rosa, anywhere from gusting from the teens and into the 20s and all that doesn't sound like much. it has the potential to, again, push a fire relatively rapidly. >> sparks from a carelessly thrown cigarette, a dragging chain, or even a lawnmower can set off a windblown wildfire situation fanned by high winds. even worse, fireworks pose a real threat everywhere. >> 4th of july is right around the corner, and unfortunately, time and time again we see a lot of illegal activities and a number of fires and incidents that are absolutely 100% avoidable. >> it's already a more active fire season. cal fire says to date this year we've had 2700

people to avoid this area in fremont. we will, of course, keep you posted as soon as we hear back. >> what happened here was a tragedy. you had people who were doing the simple job of enforcing the law, and they had rioters egged on by the governor and the mayor, making it harder for them to do their job. that is disgraceful. >> vice president jd vance was in los angeles today and sounded off against governor newsom and his handling of the national guard and marine deployment to los angeles in response to the protests against ice. the governor's legal fight returned to district court in san francisco today. after the ninth circuit court of appeals kept control of the troops in the president's hands, rejecting judge charles breyer's ruling for governor newsom. >> judge breyer is trying to figure out, did he just lose power? did he just lose jurisdiction over those claims that were appealed to the ninth circuit, or did he basically lose power over this entire case? >> judge breyer is asking both

sides to submit briefs by monday, addressing whether president trump still has jurisdiction to modify or rule on other aspects of governor newsom, along with the state's legal challenge, alleging violations of the pace act, a 19th century federal law restricting the use of u.s. military for domestic law enforcement purposes. east bay congressman mark desaulnier wants to ensure a shuttered federal prison will not reopen for the benefit of ice. the former all women's prison, fci dublin, closed last year after a sex abuse scandal involving high ranking officials and guards. at least seven former employees are in prison. there have been fears the trump administration could turn the facility into an ice detention holding center, after a union official told us federal immigration officials visited the site in february. desaulnier congressman, congressman mark desaulnier, that is, says the prison is in no condition to be a center for ice detainees. he says the director of the bureau of prisons agrees.

>> my meetings with, including the director, is that this will not be a bureau of prisons facility and their interaction with isis. it won't be an ice facility either. having said that, there are other people who will make that decision. >> the concern also stems from when president trump recently threatened to reopen alcatraz, which has been closed for 60 years. in san francisco, city leaders are speaking out and condemning recent antisemitic attacks today. elected officials and the jewish community relations council came together at city hall. mayor daniel lurie says the city has zero tolerance for acts of hatred. recently, a jewish owned business in the mission district was vandalized during an anti ice protest. the owner here says that the windows were smashed in and hateful messages and death threats were written on the walls. >> if i have to be totally honest with you, i'm still in pain. i mean, i still close my eyes and i can see the glass on the floor of my business. i can see and i can feel what it felt

like. >> many says that he'll hire a security guard for his coffee shop, but he is thankful to the community for covering many of his expenses and his repairs. new at 11, a judge has rejected a motion to dismiss a whistleblower lawsuit against san jose's supermicro. a former senior executive has sued the information technology company. bogdan says that he was unlawfully fired in retaliation for revealing what he says were misleading accounting practices. huang says that following his internal complaints, he was placed on administrative leave and eventually terminated. still ahead at 11, reverend amos brown is delivering his final sermon this weekend. how he paved the way for civil rights across multiple decades. and a special night market in honor of pride month. why those in attendance from the lgbtq plus community are experiencing some

senior pastor of third baptist church in san francisco on sunday. it is a role that he has had for nearly 50 years, and ktvu crystal bailey sat down with the legendary pastor and civil rights leader about retiring from the pulpit and transitioning to a new title as pastor emeritus. >> reverend doctor amos c brown has been on the front line of every social justice movement you can think of saying that no one, no matter their race, gender or sexual orientation, should be left out of the american dream.

news. >> as the bay area celebrates pride, city officials reflected on the strength of the lgbtq community in a challenging time. mayor daniel lurie and other officials marked the display of a section of the aids memorial quilt at the sfo museum, inside the international terminal. the project was started by cleve jones in san francisco in the mid 1980s, when that disease was killing hundreds of people. the quilt now makes up 50,000 panels representing some of the lives lost. jones said that the quilt is also a call to action at a time when global aids funding is being slashed. >> we are going to have to be very strong, and we have to be very clear that the virus never went away. and in the absence of treatment, the absence of prevention education, the absence of support services, the virus is going to come roaring back with a vengeance. >> according to the world health organization, 630,000 people died of aids in 2023, while at that time nearly 40 million

people were diagnosed across the globe. san francisco's castro district hosting a special night market this evening in honor of pride month. hundreds took to 18th street, which was filled with live music, food and more than 200 or 2 dozen or two dozen vendors. but this year, many in the crowd expressing some anxiety over several recent events targeting the lgbtq community. ktvu zac sos is in the castro tonight with the story. >> the castro night market pride edition, taking over three blocks of 18th street friday. more than 30 local vendors lining the street offering food and craft goods. >> it's my first time, so i'm excited to be here. >> i'm happy that castro has something like this. >> anchoring the market three stages, providing live music and entertainment through the evening. >> lady bunny deejaying on the main stage. absolutely love her. >> this year, marking the first time visitors were able to enjoy the festivities with to go drinks thanks to the area's

the form of some low clouds. otherwise some hazy sunshine and gusty winds. again out of the northwest, 20 to 30 gusts up to 50 in the highest elevations, all due to this shortwave trough up to the north of us, producing copious amounts of precipitation around the portland area. what it's doing for us is drawing down some cooler air mass, and in return, that lowers our humidity and picks up our winds as well. right now, wind gusts 32 sfo over 30 mile per hour. wind gusts around the sea shore 22 now and anita international and sustained winds up to 18. in fairfield, 26 mile per hour wind gusts right now in the novato area. so you combine all this together, the low humidity, the gusty winds. we have elevated fire danger, north bay, east ba, and also portions of santa clara county. and then where you see this swath of red in the central valley, that's where we have the red flag warning in effect. but this does encompass parts of the bay area, predominantly right

believed to have been murdered has been rearrested. and this story begins tonight's west coast rap. suzanne morphew was reported missing on mother's day in 2020. her remains were found three years later. today, her husband barry was arrested again on a first degree murder charge. he was arrested back in 2021, but prosecutors dropped the case because they wanted more time to find her body. an autopsy revealed her death was a homicide. it also found evidence of an animal tranquilizer in her bones. police had previously found a tranquilizer gun and accessories inside the couple's home. the fbi in seattle has a warning about a scam targeting foreign students who are lawfully studying in the u.s. these scammers are impersonating federal agents and contacting those students, claiming there's a problem with their visa and they need to immediately pay a
