out fox5 vegas dot com for more information on this power outage.. including the details of what happened and what's being done to fix the problem. this isn't the first time a major casino on the strip has suffered a power outage. back in 2004... the bellagio lost power for three days! guests did not have any phone serivce or water... and the elevators did not work. they ended up being sent to other hotels. according to the las vegas sun... the bellagio ended l anywhere between two and three million dollars a day in revenue... and another million dollars in net income. now to a hot issue on your ballot... it's question two - whether or not to legalize recreational marijuama in nevada. one dispensary is wasting no time setting up shop in our city, even before the votes are counted.. "i think it's about time, it's been prohibitions. the market's been there but it's time for it to be legit and it's
it's time for that to be standard for this product. " the shango dispensary opened today with a special green ribbon cutting. it aims to be the leader in the cannabis industry. right now... it strictly sells medical marijuana-- but if question two passes you can expect to see other marijuana products available like flowers... concentrations and infused treats. so tonight, we're asking .. how would legalization play out here in nevada. and what are the pros and cons? fox 5's faith tanner has this special report. if proposal 2 passes--- nevada will join four other states that have legalized weed. proponets say it's time to regulate the drug.... but those opposed have quite a few concerns about it. "this is probably one of the most regulated businesses in nevada, hands down" kevin biernacki is the master grower at the grove. he's turned growing cannabis-- into a science.
these little plants comes from a mother so each one of these is genetically identical to it's original mom, so we don't grow from seeds we basically clone" thousands of marijuana plants grown here at one time--- it's part of the state's medical marijuana industry that's lighting up... with state of the art grow houses... and high end dispensaries. "it's definitely tough to work with, there are a lot of regulations posted on us" most of these facilities--- opened just this year. and now these businesses are bracing for the possibility of a surge in new customers. as nevada voters decide whether or not to legalize recreational marijuana. "instead of chasing our tails on this failed prohibition, it's just time for a new approach, it's time for us to take this out of the black market and instead have responsible small business people, local people that we know sell this in a highly regulated manor" joe brezney is a spokesperson for the group leading the push to legalize weed. "marijuana's being sold in the community. who do you want selling it- is it cartels and criminals or our neighbors?- our successful business people who are already
if passed-- proposal 2 would allow adults-- 21 and older-- to legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana on private property. it would enforce a 15 percent tax on wholesale marijuana sales tax revenue would go toward regulation of the drug, and then the state's education fund. "if we transition that into a regulated market that's 6,000 new jobs that don't exist right now, it will produce 60 million in tax revenue for the state" opponents say allowing recreational marijuana would do more harm that good. some of their biggest concerns? edibles that look more like candy--- being marketed to kids. and the dangers of reckless drivers-- under the influence of marijuana-- on the roads. : "what we've seen in legalized states like washington, there is a doubling of marijuana users on fatal car crashes" kevin sabet is the president of smart approaches to marijuana. he's also a former drug policy advisor to both the obama and bush
"it does effect the make up of your community, when you have these pot businesses selling different kinds of marijuana the second hand smoke issues that come with public use, they become a nusiance" sabet says the industry is also going down a dangerous path--- by trying to commercialize marijuana products. "the industry knows it needs to get young customers so it's going to do what big tobacco did 50 years ago which is market and create these edible items that are red... purple.. grape... cherry flavored to attract kids... they're doing what they need brand loyalty and this is how they get it" but brezny points out-- state lawmakers have already proposed new regulations-- to make edibles look plain and less appealing to kids. he adds-- nevada already has some of the toughest medical marijuana regulations in the nation-- and vows that will continue if marijuana is sold the general public. "the proof is that we're already doing this on a high level. we're regulating it really well right now. and so expanding that to adults over 21 just makes sense" but opponents call recreational weed too risky for nevada. they say we should wait for issues to be worked out in other states-- before lighting up the marijuana experiment here. "i think the message to nevada voters is- what's the rush? frankly
washington, california may go this way. let's see what happens to see if this makes sense for nevada" but ultimately it will be up to you-- the voters-- to decide if nevada will be the next to ride high on business from marijuana. if voters pass question 2 and weed is legalized-- state lawmakers will be given the task of adding clarifications or small amendments to how the system would work here in nevada. ftffnlll. recreational marijuana is also on the ballot in four other states this election-- california, arizona, massachusetts, and maine. still ahead tonight ..
win last night.. and we sit down with a man who coached las vegas's own kris bryant when he was
in high school. as you make up your mind, remember -- congressman heck voted 10 times to defund planned parenthood. he even threatened to shut down the government over it. heck took all that money from wall street and predatory payday lenders and voted their way. he even wanted to privatize social security, congressman heck just doesn't care about people like us.
du i support question 1 because it will help save lives. haley: question 1 protects gun rights and does something urgently needed: it closes the background check loophole and keeps guns out of dangerous hands. states that have closed the loophole have seen fewer police officers shot and killed in the line of duty. that's a fact. protect our families and police.
now fox5 weather 24/7, with chief meterologist ted pretty with plenty of sunshine across the las vegas valley, temperatures this afternoon climbed into the low 80s. skies will stay clear overnight lows dropping into the 60s. a slight northerly breeze will continue, blowing 5 to 15 mph around the valley. showers will continue over arizona on friday, but they will be too
any rain. we'll see a few clouds during the afternoon over the eastern half of our viewing area, otherwise, it will be another mostly sunny and warm fall day. highs will hold in the low 80s. temperatures will hover around 80 through the into next week. a few more clouds drift across the area sunday, but we will remain dry over the next 7 days.
"here's the oh- 1...this is going to be a tough play... bryant... the cubs win the world series!! bryant makes the play! it's over, and the cubs have won it all!" this is the moment cubs fans have waited more than a century for! the cubs were victorious... after a nail-biting, ten- inning game seven of the world series. and it was hometown hero kris bryant... who made that last winning move! fox5's eric hilt sat down with one of bryant's high school coaches who said seeing him in such a big game was surreal. last night's game 7 sent millions of viewers on a wild
"i'm sitting on the edge of my seat almost" ...including mike o'rourke... "i was locked in from first pitch until the game was over" the bonanza high school baseball coach isn't a cubs or an indians fan... but he had a big rooting interest. "we're obviously rooting for kris for him to do well and for him to win" standup: "because before bryant was making big plays on the biggest stage there is - game 7 of the world series - he was making big plays here, on the baseball diamond at bonanza hi school" "we were lucky to have a front row seat and see some of the things that he did" o'rourke coached bryant for three years -- from 2008 to 2010 -- before the third baseman went on to be picked second overall in the mlb draft "he was one of the hardest working players to come through bonanza high school, in the baseball program and coupled with the talent and the work ethic its led him to great success" "you knew he was going to be a player, you had no doubt that he's
drafted at some point, he's got a lot of college offers, he's going to play beyond high school at a very high level." a level as high as game 7 of a historic world series. and that smile that bryant flashed while fielding the final out of the game? "it was awesome you know, people play all their lives to get to that point and its the best moment....thats the thing about kris, and when i listened to his post game stuff, he's so genuine and its so, its just like he was in high school" and with all this world series excitement ... the president wasn't shy about sharing his thoughts on the game.. after one of his hometown teams won it all. and ... why the company that makes bats for the world series ... is busier than ever
"she ate like a pig." "i'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers..." donald trump calls women "bimbos", "dogs", and "fat pigs." but congressman crescent hardy said he'd support donald trump 100%. nevada, there's a better choice: ruben kihuen. kihuen pushed to crack down on employers who pay women less than men. and kihuen will always protect a woman's right to choose. ruben kihuen for nevada. house majority pac is responsible for the content of this advertising. ll of the shenanigans danny tarkanian's pulled in nevada -- helping set up fake charities used to scam nevada seniors, failing to pay thousands in property taxes, losing $17 million in a failed development scheme, then sticking taxpayers with the bill -- imagine the shenanigans tarkanian would pull in washington. it's why we can't afford tarkanian in congress, ever.
putting a wife to work is a very dangerous thing. when i come home and dinner's not ready i go through the roof. grab 'em by the p****". when you're a star, they let you do it. you can

standing there with no clothes. you see these incredible looking women. i'd look her right in that fat ugly face of hers. she ate like a pig. a person who's flat-chested is very hard to be a 10. do you treat women with respect? uh... i can't say that either. alright, good. i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. louisville slugger has been making world series bats since the first championship back in 1903. and now... the company is working
around the clock to stamp out commemorative bats honoring the chicago cubs! " "our folks hit the bed, got a couple hours sleep, then they got here at six o'clock this morning and started making cubs world championship bats for the first time in 108 years."" louisville slugger expects to sell about 50
souvineer bats. mini-bats will go for 12-99... and the full-size bats will sell for up to 139 dollars. it was a little tough for president obama to stay non- partisan on who he thought should win the world series. the former illinois senator is over-the-moon about his team winning! " you know the expression 'this is the greatest thing since sliced bread?' this is actually, for cubs fans, the greatest thing since sliced bread. i want to congratulate the chicago cubs on an amazing season."" tweet from the president to the team... he says the win is a change this south-sider can believe in... and he invites them to the white house! come next year .. a new president will be congratulating a winning team... new president will be congratulating a winning team... but we have to get through the next five days first.. and expect more scenes like these... today ... campaign visits from both bill clinton and

property was accidentally cut shortly before 10 this morning. fox5's miguel martinez valle has been talking with people who were supposed to be enjoying a relaxing night in paris.. but are now staying elsewhere.. miguel. eiffel tower lights are on there's a few ro the casino as far as we know and the hotel most of the rooms completely dark it's been that way all day since 9
all day we've been working to find out exactly what caused this massive power outage.. and why the hotel and casino's generator didn't kick in. fox5's cyndi lundeberg has been getting those answers and joins us live again at paris.. cyndi. the power outage began at 945 this morning... at noon an entire evacuation of the casino was ordered. metro police and firefighters are
questions ... check out fox5 vegas dot com for more information on this power outage.. including the details of what happened and what's being done to fix the problem. lawyers are debating what counts as child abuse... in a case involving two women who gave a little girl lethal levels of painkillers after she broke her arm. "kendra and mylinda hatch" both appeared in court today. police say kendra's daughter "ryleigh" died after she was given hydocodone and oxycodone... two medications prescribed to her. an attorney for one of the women argued they should be released on house arrest, saying they did not mean to kill ryleigh. " this is not a case of deliberate child abuse, it's a case of at the worst, ill- considered attempts to alleviate the pain of a child, which unfortunately had a tragic result. what is disturbing to the state is that the child had a medical appointment the day before her death. the defendent canceled that appointment to conceal the condition of her child."
100 thousand dollars. the women have a court appearance set for december 14th. former president-- bill clinton-- and d-j-- steve aoki-- fired up u-n-l-v students with a free concert tonight... encouraging them to get to the polls and vote. edm music minutes before aoki began playing... clinton encouraged the students to come together in unity to defeat the hate he says hillary's opponent-- donald trump-- always spews. "what does love trumps hate mean, it means that we are stronger together. if you believe that you have to say her answers are better than the anger he stands for." "her pledge that we'll all work together is better than this endless conflict. it may look good on the evening news but nothing good ever comes of it."
democratic candidates-- catherine cortez masto and ruben kihuen also made appearances at the rally. the republicans were also getting out the vote in the valley today... donald trump's oldest son hit the campaign trail to rally up support. donald trump junior visited "ahern manufacturing" near m-l-k and bonanza. he encouraged the supporters to make their voice heard and vote early. trump junior says his father is the only person who can put an end to corruption in d-c. "make sure to vote! you can send dc a message that enough is enough! we're fed up of the es the deceit, we're fed up of the false promises. we're going to shake up the cartel in dc. we're going to show them that we mean business and it's time to drain the swamp." tomorrow is the last day to vote early in nevada. we have a list of polling places on our website at fox5 vegas dot com. a campaign scam for the digital era popped up on twitter this week. it involved a series of fake ads, apparently aimed
latino voters, which provides a phone code for voters to "text" their votes for democratic presidential nominee hillary clinton. the ads have since been removed from twitter... but this is what it looked like. they carried captions like "vote from home" and "avoid the line," and a small message saying they had been paid for by the clinton campaign. it is not possible to vote by text message, which suggests the point of the fake ads was to suppress democratic turnout by tricking people into thinking they had already voted. imagine spending millions on a new condo .. only to find out the whole building in sinking!! this election can't end soon enough for many of us.. one of the stories that keeps popping up is allegations that electronic voting machines in clark county are flipping votes. we had some rants about that tuesday...now we hear the other side... skeptical that these machines have a mind of their own. i don't understand why so many people are having problems voting. my husband, and my daughter and i we all went to vote at the meadows mall. where every person there was fabulous, helped us check in. there was no problem with the voting machine. so perhaps [you all] vote. here's john...i have lived in las vegas for over 45 years and eligible to vote for 42 of those years. i've never experienced a flipping electronic vote selection. the county election department has done an excellent job. the extremely rare voter fraud we have had are a handful of idiots ... on both sides... trying to vote twice. next tuesday will be the final votes for and against legalized marijuana and tightening gun
private party sales. we heard here yesterday from some of you... recreational marijuana... bad. gun restrictions... bad. now the other side. yes i agree with letting people be able to smoke marijuana. it helps victims with illness, it helps kill a lot of pain for us veterans. i am speaking as a disabled veteran, it will help us with some of our pain and misery. to the lady that works at the gun show and claims she does background check, that's a bunch of bull! you walk in there you can by a gun and you get a gun. there is no background checks on that or if you buy it over through the internet through a private party. and so, the only reason that she's saying that is so she can keep on selling guns. it's a crook, you need to vote yes on number one! you know you don't

the city of san francisco is suing developers of a luxury residential building. it's a high rise condo tower .. built on landfill in the downtown area. but there's a problem.. the building is sinking. fox's kirstin mcnary has the latest. it is being called "the leaning tower of san francisco"... "the millennium tower" is a fifty- eight story luxury condo high rise...sinking into the ground. at this point, it has sunk more than a foot... and, now has a two-inch tilt at its base...and a six-inch lean at the top. now, the city is suing the tower's developers... claiming they knew about the issues... but, failed to warn potential residents. herrera says: "before they had sold a single condo, mission street development llc knew their building had sunk more than it was supposed to during its lifetime and that it was still sinking. yet they didn't tell the home buyers." the eight-year-old tower has an indoor pool and a restaurant run by a celebrity chef. tenants have included former san francisco forty- niner joe montana.... and, penthouses
than ten million dollars.. average condos run around one-point- eight million. herrera says: "buyer beware doesn't cut it here. someone selling real estate must disclose details about known property conditions. the law is very clear on that." the developers say the city's allegations have no merit and insist they've complied with all laws. they blame the city...for failing to properly oversee excavation and removal of water from sediment near the tower when a nearby transit center was built. the developers have now hired an engineering investigate and install monitoring equipment. shires says: "what they will tell you is where is the soil compressing, where is it settling. and that's important because if you know where it's settling, you can determine which part hasn't settled yet." kirstin mcnary, fox news. at this point, experts have deemed the building safe in the event of an earthquake. meantime, residents have also filed a separate lawsuit. back here in the valley -- it was the kid's turn this morning to debate and vote.. see what happened at kid-
