good morning i'm dave hall. and i'm maria silva. welcome to fox5 news this morning. the power is back on and thousands of guests are waking up at paris hotel after a major power outage thursday. the power was out for more than 12 hours, the hotel's employees and guests. fox5's peter dawson joins us live from the strip hotel, where peter is waiting for an update from caesars. peter, what's the mood like out there this morning? we should hear from caesars at 6 a-m. we have been out here all night as guests returned to their hotel rooms. it was pretty chaotic last night, with many guests demanding answers about when the power would be restored and when they could get their stuff. thursday morning, a construction crew accidently hit a main power

basement, cutting power to the entire casino. the power went black just before 10 o'clock. a full evacuation of the property was ordered at noon after the generators failed to kick in. 3,000 people were displaced from the 29 hundred rooms at the resort. no one went to the hospital but some guests were pretty shaken up, trapped in the elevators. "i hear is banging and screaming and there was people stuck in there" "nobody was around to give me directions" "i tripped on the last three stairs" "we were going to be homeless in las vegas for the night" firefighters rescued 11 people from the hotel's elevators. they had to climb

this morning, some paris' guests are waking up in different hotels. fox5's miguel martinez valle spoke with some people who were frustrated with the lack of communication from paris' staff, so they jumped at the chance to make other plans.

"there should be a certain age limit but i think children can vote too for certain things." "i think it's a realy good idea to get them involved in politics and understanding issues at this age, so by the time they are able to vote they're educated and know what's going on. " during "kid- vention" high schoolers compete in an active debate with actual nevada candidates, while the 5-th and 7-th graders watch on from the audience. at the end, the kids voted and the results of each debate were tallied up. this event takes place each year. they've waited decades to throw a big parade for their cubbies! today, chicago gets their chance. as the parade kicks off in an hour. i say we have our own parade here in las vegas.. for that guy... kris bryant! coming

cubs world series win, sports illustrated is releasing the cover for its latest issue early. the cover features kris bryant running towards cubs' first-baseman anthony rizzo following that final play in game 7. the cover reads "all the way." the magazine moved up production by a week to make this happen. louisville slugger has been making world series bats since the first championship back in 1903. and now... the company is the clock to stamp out commemorative bats honoring the chicago cubs! a historian from louisiana is showing off his election memorabilia. and its quite the collection. bob stone has 38- hundred pieces. he has everything from political buttons to pins and tokens. some of the items are over 220 years old, dating back to the 17-80s. bob started his collection in 19-72 when he was just 10 years old. the first item in his collection. a "re-elect nixon" pin. he even has one image of ronald reagan with the quote "let's make america great again." a slogan republican

saying over-and- over on the campaign trail. award season is right around the corner, and one of the most critically- acclaimed actresses in hollywood will be receiving another big honor. meryl streep will receive the golden globes lifetime achievement award at the annual ceremony in january. the organization is recognizing streep for her forty years in the film industry. the 67-year old actress has been nominated for 19 oscars during her career and has taken home three academy awards. meryl streep isn't the only actress getting a nod from hollywood. jessica chastain was just honored at the t-c-l chinese theater. the actress sank her hands and feet into cement yesterday at the iconic hollywood establishment. leaving one's prints at the theater is considered one of tinsel town's highest honors. chastain's hand prints are right
