to make the announcement. the name could be the desert... silver... or golden knights. this is the night we've been waiting for! i'm christine maddela. i'm john huck. an identity will be born tonight. las vegas was awarded the franchise on june 22-nd. since then -- fans have been anxiously waiting and wondering what the team will be called. we have coverage of the las vegas team name announcement at the t-mobile arena... fox five's vince sapienza has reaction from hockey fans and season ticket holders... but first we start with fox five's sport director kevin bolinger with more on the announcement. closed captioning will resume closed captioning
there will be polo shirts... t-shirts... hats... and bags. the franchise tells us jerseys and sweaters will not be available just yet. the las vegas n- h-l franchise will be part of a docudrama. a local company -- called levy productions -- is producing the piece. take a look. "board approved plan expansion. city major league dreams. a man on a mission. thousands fan rallied. taem making history. give up nhl hockey in las vegas cheers." the docudrama expansion team's story... and will have a behind the scenes look at the team. it will have ten episodes... and airs december 7-th on cox cable channel 96. another big sports story happening tonight. there's a twist happening with the oakland raiders re-locating to las vegas. oakland city officials say they're making progress with plans to build a new stadium of
raiders there. this comes weeks after local and state lawmakers here in nevada have already approved the funding plan for a new, nearly two point billion dollar nfl stadium in las vegas. fox5's eric hilt is live at russell and the i-15, which is one of the possible sites for that stadium... last night the raiders played a home game not in oakland...but in mexico city -- and there are a lot of people in las vegas that hope soon the raiders will be playing their home games here in the valley... but now another twist in this ongoing relocation drama -- the city of oakland says its making headway with plans to build their own new stadium. nats -- radiers game while the raiders were playing south of the border in mexico city last night... nats -- raiders game back in oakland, city officials were putting the final touches on a framework for a plan to build a new stadium -- and
"there is an actual framework in place" today oakland mayor libby schaaf talked about that framework with bay area fox affiliate ktvu... "the lott group has the ability and the willingness...more than that..the passion to actually put the private money into this deal that i believe it will take to actually build a stadium under the conditions that mark davis has always said he needs" that "lott group" is a team of private investors led by former raider great ronnie lott... who talked about the groups push to keep the raiders in oakland last month. "its a number of people who said they want to contribute not just who they are but actual dollars and cents to this effort" an effort that local leaders say isn't a threat to a raider relocation to las vegas "sot" county
