viewing area with winds less than 10 mph. the skies will stay clear, so the fog should burn off quickly as the sun comes up. highs will climb into the low to mid 40s over most of the area today. we will stay warm through the weekend... i'll have that forecast in a few minutes. continuing coverage this morning as investigators in california continue their work following a deadly attack. that attack left 14 dead.. and more than 20 injured. police are working around the clock to try and piece together how and why it happened. jay gray is in california this morning with gathered overnight.. "the smell of fresh gunpowder was in the air." madden was one of the first officers on scene the morning of the attack.. "it was unspeakable the carnage that we were seeing, the people injured or already dead and the pure panic on the faces of individuals." those images frame the investigation that continues right now.. police and federal agents pouring over evidence pulled from the redlands home of syed farook.. and tashfeen malik.. including computers and cell phones that according to officials indicate farook "was talking with people in the us and overseas during the past year who showed an interest in radical jihad." "this took days, weeks, if not months to plan out. there's nothing impulsive about this shooting at all." a military style assault... carried out by a couple that had as many as ten pipe bombs and 45- hundred rounds of ammunition

bad to say about him." jennifer's husband, nicholas, was 52. we have breaking news this morning... 16 people are killed and three others are hurt in an attack at a nightclub. it happened in egypt. police are looking for two young men who carried out the attack. they're accused of throwing molotov cocktails into the club. police are looking for the suspect who shot a man inside a walmart store. it happened in illinois outside chicago. police say it started as an "i didn't see nothing. i was too busy ringing up customers. and that's when i heard the shots and stuff police are talking to witnesses and are still searching for the suspect. in paris, a bar will reopen after it was targeted in last month's deadly attack. five people died at the bar three weeks ago. isis claims it was behind the

people who live there said they were supportive of today's reopening, saying they need to "continue life as it was before". it's a name that's been used since the 1980s..but some are calling for the university of iowa to change it. the iowa student information system is nicknamed isis. it's a program students use almost every day to check their school email accounts... schedule classes... and make appointments around campus. now that there's a radical islamic group with the same name...some think it needs to change... "i know someone who is of the muslim faith who could be offended by it, so i would expect a change." "it has absolutely nothing to do with it. it's just a coincidence that our acronym ended up the same as theirs." the university said changing the name of the program is relatively straightforward... and is looking at how much that would cost. it'll make its decision public soon after that. the trial continues in the first officer charged in the death of freddie gray. officer william porter is

medics when gray asked for help. prosecutors say he also failed to secure the 25-year- old properly in the police van. gray's death in april after suffering a spinal cord injury set off massive protests in baltimore. police are searching for suspects in a shooting that left one person dead and three others wounded. officers in georgia were called to a shooting early yesterday morning. when they got there, they found the four victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds. a woman died at the scene, while three others are in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. authorities believe there are at least two suspects and that the shootings are a result of what they called "group violence". it's been nearly 5 years after a mine explosion kiilled 29 workers... and the man who ran it is found guilty of violating federal safety laws. a federal investigation found the man kept two sets of books to mislead inspectors and tipped off crews before surprise inspections at the west virginia mine. the man's attorney says he will appeal. a virgin america flight was delayed thursday after the loader used to move baggage onto the plane caught fire.

able to put out the flames damage. more than a dozen people have been arrested in northern iowa for drug related investigations. it took months to investigate, but police in mason city were able to track the suspects down in just two days. the drug charges are widespread from prescription medication, to marijuana, and meth. out of all three... 11 are tied to the delivery of meth... "these are a lot of different to make the arrest at this point." the sheriff's office says these are ongoing investigations, and is expecting to make more arrests. congress is slamming the secret services -- saying security lapses on their part could've endangered the president. a report from a congressional oversight committee says the agency has been dealing with a series of problems. the report cites budget cuts that are leaving the secret service understaffed and overworked. in a statement ... the secret service acknowledges the challenges - but says they'll take time to fix. the nation's top security

we begin this morning with the latest on the investigation in the california attack. police are looking for the man who bought two rifles used in the mass shooting. syed farook and his wife killed 14 people and wounded 21 others. police say they handguns and rifles they had were bought legally more than three years ago. farook bought the pistols, but a man authorities won't identify bought the rifles. it's unclear if that man bought the guns for farook -- of if they were stolen -- but we do know police are looking for him. "when it comes to people who protecting the people along the way." authorities say they don't know why farook and his wife attacked a social services center -- but they say it appears he had been radicalized. this is what the president had their loss is our loss too, and we're all one american family. we look out for each other in

the president talked about it during the national christmas tree lighting ceremony -- saying this is a wonderful time of year, but at the same time -- it's important to think of those who are suffering right now. expected at an officer's funeral. the officer was killed in the shooting at a colorado springs planned parenthood on friday. two others were also killed in that attack -- and nine more were injured or wounded, including five officers. the debate about guns is front and center again in washington after recent attacks. yesterday, the senate voted against more background checks. the bill -- which was bi-partisan -- would've required more checks for guns bought online and at gun shows. the vote was 50-47 against -- with both senators from iowa voting no. in new york -- a county sheriff is urging gun owners to arm themselves. he says -- in light of what's happened recently -- he's encouraging those who are licensed to carry their weapon with them.

allison. he left a note saying he needed to start a new life -- but his do. he disappeared days before his first wrestling match as a "we're just scared that, something's happened to him or generous person and that's what we are scared of, that something bad has happened to him." the family says there has been no sign of ethan's unique car -- which you see in this picture. volunteers organized a search for him yesterday and will continue today. ambulances surround an elementary school -- after a carbon monoxide scare. it happened yesterday in chicago. more than 100 students and faculty were checked out at the hospital. there's no word what caused the high levels of carbon monoxide -- but we know detectors were put in all chicago public schools after a boiler broke down at a school earlier this year. an explosion leads to a big fire

plant in west texas. authorities aren't sure what caused the explosion. about 200 people were at the plant at the time. two suffered minor injuries. a multi-car pileup ends with one driver crashing right into a drive- thru. it happened near a mall in tucson arizona. police say one car ran into two others -- then landed on its side in a chick-fil-a drive- thru lane. police say it looks worse than it is. no one was seriously hurt. road construction clears up in one part of eastern iowa. many of you may recognize these streets in waterloo kimball avenue is finally free, after being under construction for almost two years. crews removed the cones -- bringing it back to two lanes.
