This is how we do it
Fun movie that teaches the housewives of America how to brush your home permanent. We talk to Julius Caruso, a famous hairstylist if there ever was one, (there are articles about him on the web)about brushing, types of Curls, and general hair upkeep

Back combing and back brushing
That was called "teasing" in the Midwest. I remember girls weren't allowed to do that with their hair until mother approved of the look - about 7th grade or so. It was as important as being able to wear nylons.
Well, at least I now know what made those permanents look so frizzy.

If I knew then,
What I just learned now, I wouldn't have had so many "Harpo Marx" perms! I had no idea you could use home rollers for perms. I thought they had to be those tiny rollers designed for permanents.
Any idea when this film was made?
