Loie Fuller, American dancer and theatre innovator known as the 'Butterfly Girl' and inventing the 'Serpentine Dance', often performed at Folies Bergère and was so revered she did Danse Serpentine for Lumière films. She was the first American modern dancer to perform in Europe and introduced Isadora Duncan to Europe as well. Her spouse was Gabrielle Bloch and a wonderful 1902 portrait of Loie can be found here, by Frederick Glasier http://www.shorpy.com/node/1641?size=_original

Quality is amazing ... and raises questions.
Excellent posting; thank you so much. Don't be overly concerned with others opinions as I too have my questions about the identity of the performer in this piece. I've compared her to the photographic images I have that are definitely Loie Fuller and I cannot state that the two are the same. The quality of this piece is much better than anything I have seen with Loie in it with the 1905 Fire Dance by Pathe France allegedly being the earliest film of her known to exist. Being a researcher on Loie Fuller for many years there is at least one well-known documented instance of mistaken identity originating over 70 years ago in which a performer that looked like Loie was identified as being Loie for decades before the mistake was uncovered. The results have been decades of incorrectly identified films and photos that continue to be cited as fact.

There is some woman on Facebook , saying this is a completely different person. I have blocked this individual because she was accusing me of doing things that I did not do, making her claims harder to believe. Please do not challenge anything that I have said , because I feel that my claims are credible and anyone who does not believe me after I tell them that I did not do things that she accused me of.
