Metropolis - Fritz Lang's film with a new soundtrack by Peter-David Smith.
Of about seven billion people on the planet, one made an effort to create a new soundtrack for Metropolis. One person, working alone and without any funding, used a home PC and an electric guitar to create the audio and match it to scenes in the movie. Not only that but it's available for free download. This is an example of interactive web culture. Years ago it would've required an organisation like the BBC to rework culture in this way.
The manner in which this work has arrived is an example of people empowered by machines (rather than th disempowerment may have been the fear 40, 50, 100 years ago). If you want to make a change the tools now exist. This is DIY culture. The irony is intentional. The message is the medium and the medium is the individual heart empowered by tech.
The style of the audio is glitch electronica, blending noises, distortion and guitar with cleared samples and synthetic generated quasi "music". The robotic theme in the sound matching that of the video.

Unfortunately the 'new' soundtrack for this film is simply highly repetitive discordant synthesized/sampled music. It is not good.
Metropolis is a brilliant film and I remember seeing on the BBC a version about 40 years ago where the music changed with the scenes and plot development.
It does not here, which is disappointing. The music and visuals do not match.
It is no good just slapping down your fave track of the moment and hoping it will work. More effort needed.
Also bear in mind that this is a cut of the film - it actually runs far longer.
