An eccentric American scientist (Stewart) is convinced the design of a new Britiah airliner is fatally flawed. Two women (Dietrich & Johns) believe him, but the powers that be think he's a fool. Suspenseful, intelligent screenplay. Solid cast and production. Adapted from a novel by ex-aeronautical engineer Nevil Shute. (a.k.a. "No Highway")
POST SCRIPT: This 1951 film and the 1948 novel on which it was based proved to be tragically prophetic, when the design defect they mentioned caused the loss of two de Havilland Comet airliners in 1954.

Jimmy Stewart's Best Performance
___Stewart really shines as a doddering, absent minded scientist in this extremely entertaining and heartwarming account of the first insights into aircraft metal fatigue...even though it wasn't proven till several years after this movie. Superb supporting cast also...including Jack Hawkins(The Cruel Sea). This movie ranks in my top 10 all time favorites. Hopefully we'll soon see the full movie available here.....but meanwhile, I suggest you watch it on Amazon......even though it does cost a few bucks.
