The Monster Maker was the Real Monster
Good clean fun - so to speak - for a spooky late night viewing. There is never any doubt that the "Monster Maker" will get his in the end - and its a decent hour's viewing to see how he gets it. J. Carrol Naish (Dr. Igor Markoff) is very good, with a rather chilling performance as a tightly wound, maniac. Ralph Morgan (Andrew Lawrence) gives a credible performance as a concert pianist turned in a monster-like human through acromegaly injections received courtesy of Markoff. In reality, the disease cannot be transmitted by injection - however, in those days, who knew?. Both Tala Birell (Maxine) and Wanda McKay (Patricia Lawrence) give good performances. And, good work by Ace the Wonder Dog (Ace). The other actors are okay - at least they don't embarrass themselves. Glenn Strange has a small part as Markoff's servant and strong-arm man, Giant.
