a week of hostilities between armenia and azerbaijan brings devastation to the nagorno-karabakh region and beyond r.t. reports from the front line. 2 massive explosions in the very center of the city 250 millimeter caliber so it is a massive rocket. syrian militants are pouring into the conflict zone is. over for a mercenary. my life everybody knows he's a liar there's nothing smart about you. know your number. the 1st presidential debate before the u.s.
6:01 am
election descended into name calling and interruptions the 2nd round however is now in downtown with donald trump contract coronavirus. joining us 1 pm here in the russian capital this is the weekly. there's been a week of deadly hostilities between armenia and azerbaijan in the disputed nagorno-karabakh region strikes have destroyed multiple buildings with conflicting reports on casualties late on saturday to the explosions were heard in the disputed regions capital. have been heard throughout sunday morning with more damage inflicted across the city on friday a field hospital was hit in a bombing raid several residential buildings were also badly damaged and reports just just the leader of the self-proclaimed the going to care about republic was
6:02 am
badly injured on sunday. also this week a steady spill beyond the confines of the disputed territory when a bordering azeri town was bombed by john claims that more than 2000 shells were dropped in that raid also says since the start of fighting 19 is over civilians have been killed with 63 injured. the conflict reignited last sunday but it has roots stretching back more than 3 decades it is one of several border disputes still unresolved since the collapse of the soviet union enclave populated mainly by media and broke away from azerbaijan in 1908 but the area hasn't been widely recognized as a sovereign state. on

my division we have only one condition that armenia leaves our lands completely and immediately this is fairly it is the armenian government complies with this the fighting will stop there will be no bloodshed there will be peace peace will come to our region. i believe the armenian army can secure the country and the self-defense forces of the golden corral bark or successfully protecting the region from a political standpoint i believe it's very important that international partners know how and who started this military action. on his being on the ground in the conflict zone with his report on friday shelling of the car about capital is done.
6:04 am
has come under probably the heaviest shelling since we arrived here 2 massive explosions in the very center of the city usually what we could hear what we could see the smoke from the explosions on the outskirts in the suburbs this is the very city center and moreover this is the building of the ministry of emergencies so it has been obliterated i mean look look at this everything is gone windows are gone the whole wall there's a hole in the whole wall and it's not just this building there's a whole complex it's a large it's a large complex and it's everywhere like this obliterated not raised to the ground but it's gone i don't see any way how it can be fixed all renovated we don't know what we don't know what exactly caused the explosion but we didn't hear any sirens and sirens so probably wasn't a drone but some really heavy artillery and with
6:05 am
a very long range as well but we have to go they are telling us it's not safe because sometimes as the azerbaijanis are using these so-called double tap so that they not only they destroy the building but also they kill soldiers who arrived here we've arrived here with the soldiers as well so we have to go this is the crater that was made by one of the rockets and this is a piece from its head the military here is telling me that this is a 250 caliber 250 millimeter caliber so it is a massive rocket they don't know exactly what it is they're telling me these these are not laws but that this one is also israeli made. well journalists in the going to kind of also getting caught in the crossfire 4 were injured in a strike on wednesday flipping 2 french reporters they were lifted to yet of on for treatment and have now been repaired to eat it on the cameraman from an armenian t.v. channel was severely injured during shelling from the azerbaijani side these are

pictures of his car. and the complex creating why the geopolitical tensions france and russia have accused turkey of funneling jihadi militants from syria into the combat zone on media also alleges ankara along with back is trying to continue the genocide of the early 20th century as well john the insistence here of on using foreign mercenaries and also rejects the idea of direct military support from turkey on the senior correspondent rhonda. well aside from an increasingly violent and volatile situation on the ground things are heating up on the diplomatic international stage and i would say at this point that they are boiling france now coming out with an increasingly hardline 8 stance on what is happening in the region in this in this conflict and they are saying that they've come by the same intelligence as russia had that there are indeed syrian geologists
6:07 am
mercenary fighters being transported and utilized by is it about jobs in the fight against armenia. today we have information with certainty that indicates that militants from jihadist groups who left the field of combat and syria to rejoin the field of combat and carob are we have this information regarding the transfer mercenary fighters from the middle east to the nagorno-karabakh area the information exists and it was presented in social networks and relevant publications previously turkey and said about john had vehemently denied that they were usually using utilizing syrian mercenaries and in the fight against armenia against catabolic but in recent days that lie has changed now they're accusing armenia of itself using our ng mercenaries under the guise of them being volunteers . there is much historic evidence for meaning of terrorists and mercenaries during the occupation of nagorno-karabakh and adjacent regions of their beach on their
6:08 am
mini and leadership continues this policy today mercenaries are pumped into the conflict zone disguised as mountaineers according to our information about food fans and militants have recently been deployed by turkey from syria to azerbaijan they are already fighting for azerbaijan they are trained in militant camps and than transferred merely calling its international concern doesn't quite do it justice there are very concrete fears that have taken root that this could be a runaway conflict the potential as collation could be catastrophic because all these powers regional powers could be pulled into this war into this conflict irregardless of what they want russia for example with its security pact defense pact with armenia iraq making it know very well that it is tremendously concerned about syrian fighters mercenaries which it has forth in syria now being flew to
6:09 am
its doorstep and you know just just to show how can they are france the united states and russia have come together in a in a comparatively rare feat addition to the joint statement calling for peace though turkey for one doesn't quite believe that that can happen you should learn the fact that america russia and france known as the minsk trio are looking for a cease fire in the face of these negative developments just because they have been equipped to this problem for nearly 30 years is an acceptable. turkey's position and to a lesser degree that of john is that there have been years decades of talks that they've led to nothing they've been completely fruitless the care about problem is still a problem the flare ups still happening and they say this is not the time for peace this is a thought to resolve this conflict by military means because all these talks have
6:10 am
led to nothing and if we keep talking the conflict will keep escalating unless the underlying issue is resolved and that is who controls care about the problem will persist. another allegation being thrown at us about john by all means by koos using cluster munitions. photographs to back up the claim. responded to the allegation. both sides are very contradictory times about casualties and damage inflicted releasing a string of videos to back them up so it looks at this information has become a key weapon in the conflict deception full screens of military victories are as old as of warfare itself but in the digital age the distance a mason can be tough charged the military propaganda machine of armenia which found itself in a stalemate after a series of successful hostilities by the azerbaijani army began a large scale provocation in the information space thus the armenian side as always
6:11 am
presents old video of past battles as new ones the goal is to present their failures to the population as successes the ongoing conflict in the want to care about is an example of how information is deployed just as powerfully and destructively as guns claiming victory can play as important a role as physically claiming territory it's all about the image you project so one surprise in that just as i said by john tried to discredit armenians claims of success yaron shot off its own attack. the enemy both at the front in the information space is making his last efforts is running out of steam and therefore through everything all possible weapons into battle and even fakes and false hoods over the past few days there has been a relentless stream of accusations from one side followed by denials from the author and this exchange of fire has made finding the truth almost impossible for example armenia says one of its su 25 warplanes was shot down by tucker's fighter
6:12 am
jet talky and as a by john denounce this is law is and with no footage or i want to says it's one side's word against the others so what is the truth but even when evidence is put forward the truth proves to be just as elusive the car back to france ministry both sit down and sorry helicopter a photo of a burning helicopter hurtling to the ground is posted on social media a small victory is claimed it turns out the photo was actually of a helicopter shot down over syria back in february but it doesn't matter because people thought it was a sari and that will stick as a boy john uses the same tactics to post about a successful strike bridge honest i did not publish any images of the strikes and their mean in positions of military equipment it turned out it was for those from the war in syria these videos were shot thousands of times and so without being the truth they become a version of the truth so we're letting this has this war of information become the
6:13 am
journalists have been put on high alert. all members of the media in armenia and azerbaijan to not take part in the ongoing information war journalist should avoid when appeal ation an official propaganda. it is important to cross-check information even when it comes from official sources journalists should never become soldiers in the information war one of russia's most famous authors once compared finding the truth to looking for gold he said the only way is faster wash away all that is not gold then you will find your shining nugget well when it comes to care about there's still a knot of sifting through the muddy river of misinformation to be done before we even get close to the truth. will trump assured a video on twitter saying the real test is still ahead after he was moved to a military hospital after becoming infected with corona virus situation is cast

doubt on his 2020 presidential campaign and this 2nd round debate with rival joe biden the 1st clash well that was a chaotic a for marred by interruptions and insoles one quarter discussed that went. listen respectfully to each other's opinions i'm not here to call out his lies everybody knows he's a liar will never use the word smart with me ever use that word because you know what there's nothing smart about you joe what do you she was excuse one who so you are number 2 he's putin's puppy i get my time back fewer interruptions i'm appealing to you sir to do that will get him to well frankly you've been doing more interrupting that sort of but he does plenty well less than you will he's just shush for a minute why do you do it over again in the last 25 years i because i'm going to do it because you are president things up you are a senator and the worst were as always america is ever. going. to get any

word with this clown directly then you know now that we're done we're done sir while then the american people had big hopes for this debate after all it's happening on the backdrop of a global pandemic and a serious economic crisis but based on how both biden and trump conducted themselves i would say most people probably thought they were watching some sort of circus. you should get out of your bunker and get out of the sand trap and get in your golf course and fund what needs to be done now to save lives he wants to shut down this country and i want to keep it open. i had it close to the greatest economy in the history of our country we handed him a booming economy he blew it was it evil who. he are you are a sufficiently to crime bill 1904 where you call the super predators african-americans the super predators while during the debate the moderator was able to get in a lot of questions that the american people really want answers to how the next
6:16 am
administration is going to handle coronavirus relief racism police brutality of the social unrest but the most important thing of all is how biden or trump actually respond to these questions and voters didn't seem to think that they did a very good job on. i think this is a very painful response i don't think either the one this is just terrible all around this is very upsetting to watch that this is the best representation for our country right now i don't think i can say that even if you were one i think it was a twister it was a wild ride it went right it went left there was a lot going on there was a lot of interruption it was crazy. to me that i don't think either one of them respected none of the other. and the economy seems to agree with those voters as well because right after the close of this chaotic debate we saw u.s. stock futures take a plunge and while both political camps have already started making political memes as if they're their guy won the debate everyday voters are really kind of taking
6:17 am
a sort of i'd rather laugh than cry approach. we asked former republican state senator john loud and international affairs expert safin mclennan for the thoughts on the debate. there's little doubt that trump lost his composure or he was repeatedly interrupting and. seemed overly emotional and somewhat hysterical i was disappointed to see it in
6:18 am
decide to sort of stoop to that kind of behavior he tends to be very dismissive been goalie and in fact a name call it's certainly not presidential it's not the kind of behavior that you really want to see any candidate match or anybody watching had their minds changed except that i did i do see that i think biden's going to have some cleanup to do with the left flank it's inappropriate he just dismissed the president as a liar i hate to see the count on how many times he said the president just lies without backing up and being specific about what was dishonest but american politics can be pretty contentious and i think american people sadly are kind of used to it. the surface goes in russia's far east the reported hundreds of dead sea creatures being washed ashore it spawns fears of an environmental disaster
6:19 am
or across the story after the break. everybody's reaching for that you have political promise as a president so cute and i mean it's a russian and i think the resolution of this is there's going to be a nasty war that's going to go on for maybe months as yunnan already rejected it's . a must because of its music because this fighting is too early on that people are now battling to see what territory they can get and i think when the fighting settles down and the lines are drawn and people realize that the not going to move forward or backwards then they go. to the others. the world is driven by dreams shaped by.

the cares thinks. we fear to ask. welcome back russia's daily corona virus infection rate has seen a dramatic rise it's now surpassed $10000.00 knots double what it was just a month ago and it's prompted the capital moscow to impose fresh restrictions set to come into force on monday. others know from our correspondent who's in central moscow daniel hawkins joins me live but just how tough are these measures going to
6:21 am
be. well the situation of course is worsening across the globe with the number of infections or with coronavirus cases russia unfortunately is no exception here in the capital the matter of moscow has said the situation is studied from what it was just a few days ago over the past week with very rapid rises in cases and infections indeed i guess if we're talking medical terms you could say the situation is serious but stable it is however rising the center for coronaviruses recorded over 3300 new cases here in the capital just over the past 24 hours now people with any sort of symptoms are of course being asked to stay at home and self isolate and most people will be able to get away with this if they do have a case of coronavirus without many serious side effects or any serious health consequences and many people though are not so lucky and do require urgent medical attention. our hospitals are filling up fast the situation has stabilized
6:22 am
a little but the number of new patients is slowly but surely approaching 1000 a day many of them are seriously ill so many hospitals and medical institutions which were created especially for corona virus cases and subsequently scaled down over the past few months are now being ramped back up to deal with this rising number of cases and indeed the picture in russia is also worse thing in fact over the last 24 hours russia as you said earlier has hit that 10000 case per day mark 10499 recorded which is a rise of several 100 from what we saw just a day or so ago now to tackle these measures the government is bringing in a serious all the new rules which come into force as early as tomorrow they include a 30 percent reduction in office staff people the companies must send people to work from home that number could rise as high as 50 percent later on many people of
6:23 am
course have been working from home. these few months anyway so that won't affect quite a number of people already those who are elderly or have chronic medical conditions they must also stay home only go outside for valid reasons though so far there's no plans the moscow government says to introduce any sort of passes them that we saw over some of the school holidays have also been extended by one week the government will look again at those measures this see if they need to be strengthened of course the vaccine trial sputnik v they are underway as well the final 3rd stage has recorded no serious side effects and the institute of the government aims to shoot and the government hopes to have that vaccine in must production with massive aid ability as early as november or december preparing for any more serious worsening of the situation now as some analysts some experts are calling this the dreaded arrival of the 2nd wave others are saying that the 1st wave that chaos will remember in spring this year never really ended whatever you want to call it it's
6:24 am
clear that the situation is getting worse and that russia hasn't been able to avoid this so far the hope of course it remains under control that most people will be able to pass this without any serious health consequences this time of your thirty's the hospitals the medics are far better prepared than they were across the country than they were in spring this year and the situation will remain at least stable over the coming days and weeks hawkins with the latest on the situation in moscow many thanks. bush's environmental regulators are investigating a spike in sea pollution in the country so far east the problem was detected off the coast of come local authorities found that petro chemical levels in the water were 4 times above the legal limit they also discovered elevated levels of phenol a toxic chemical in the past several weeks service have been reporting health issues after going in the water since then people have spotted dead sea creatures being washed ashore along 40. as of coastline local government led to me
6:25 am
a solid office launched an investigation with samples being sent to moscow for analysis and he's warned that any officials who neglected the issue will face consequences. currently analyzing what possible harm the incident may have caused my main aim right now is to ensure that what's happened isn't hushed up i don't want officials to try and downplay its significance a thorough in objective analysis will be provided by the relevant organizations we will collect additional samples of water see for sediments in sand and of dead animals i can tell you right away that if it turns out local officials downplayed this incident or tried to hide it they will be immediately fired and if any federal officials are guilty of the same i will demand similar punitive measures. the environmental organization responsible for the region says that it was unable to detect the pollution earlier as the chemicals apparently originated at the bottom layers of the ocean local authorities have noted the situation has improved in the

last couple of days beating it to the ocean's ability to self recover editor in chief of russia beyond surf a lot visited the area and sent this report. i'm currently in the process of just the capital of the region there isn't that a logical disaster that. you see between just went into one person away from the sea i spent 4 hours on the collectivists the beach and i didn't see any water off yellow collar and i didn't smell any unpleasant order but at the same time some of my friends were closer to the area off keep my actually and they come through and that they felt some unpleasant odor and it had told the left weekly i've seen some death fish on the floor and some dead shellfish but not in the amounts like you probably see it on some user of the dios i like they were a little bit scattered around the beach they're real like selected that fish there
6:27 am
but not like piles of dead sea lion stuff like that idea see any big sea anymore i've talked to some surfers wolf locals and visitors and they confirm that it's soft and was in the water and heard their eyes and some of them even had like chemical burns of their eyes and they had to consult a doctor and it started 3 weeks ago so definitely a soft thing happened here but we don't know when it started we don't know the scale of the disaster and we don't know what has caused the local authorities confirmed that the samples that the 2 back on september 29 they exceeded the norms for females 2 times and norms for products 4 times in the water so soft and definitely happened. staying with ulti international updates for you in half an hour.

a whole lot more than you're saying if you don't take that advice easy going to dig yourself. a long while it's been almost. the collapse of the soviet union and the aftershocks of. earthquake keep jolting the post soviet space tourism program. followed by the alleged poisoning of an opposition politician in russia and now the renewed war between azerbaijan and armenia and while the 1st. use

a tory rhetoric in both russia and the west this 3rd seem to have dumbfounded both was the difference well to discuss that i'm now joined that carries a veteran most. correspondent and editor in chief of the b.n.a. in telling us that it's good to talk to you thank you very much for your time as a thanks for inviting me now this interview has an interesting backstory to it because that i believe you were crazy approached by my colleagues from the r.t.e. i'm used to vision or sort of if i understood correctly trying to place your views fit in that framing of the story in that case it was the promise in dollars and then when they found out it wasn't a perfect they didn't call back and i really mean it accurately that's my understanding is. they want to so. and you've done a couple of features commentary pieces of the same.
