Reclaim May Day 1998 was organized by a coalition of political groups, including Art & Revolution, Shaping San Francisco, Eviction Defense Committee, Food Not Bombs, Reclaiming, and others. It was full-on parade starting at Mission and Steuart, proceeding to Yerba Buena Gardens, UN Plaza, 16th Street BART plaza, and ending at Dolores Park. It started in the rain and ended in beautiful sunshine. Maybe 1,000 people joined in, all without permits, and about a dozen different performances were staged. This 17.5 minute video produced by Whispered Media features some of the highlights of the day.
