Roz Joseph was born in New York City in 1926 and passed away Christmas Day, 2019. She was a graduate of City College of New York (CCNY) and worked there as an administrator from 1947 to 1970. She studied art and photography courses evenings an CCNY after graduating. Around 1950 she and her husband Elliott lived in Paris for a year. She moved to San Francisco in 1970 and worked for the City of San Francisco for approximately 15 years. During all this time, and after retiring from the City of S.F., she pursued her career as a photographer, traveling extensively. Her death certificate indicates that photographer was her career.
Roz Joseph had many photographic subjects that interested her as well as many accomplishments in her long career. Included in this donation are a listing of selected exhibitions 1978 - 1990; a summary of publications of hers; and a listing of topics that she photographed. There are approximately 50 binders of slides. Each of these binders has many pages of slides. Photos of drag queens were donated to the LGBT museum in San Francisco.
