Song Of The South (1946) Torrent
Archive of the 1946 Disney film "Song of the South".
I got this from a torrent, and it claims that this was a "DVD rip". This film was never released on VHS/DVD in the U.S., so it's either a foreign release or a bootleg (my guess is the latter).

Subject: Slavery?
Subject: Slavery?
After slavery days, many black people chose to remain with their ex-masters and work as hirelings. The singing around the campfire and telling stories like Brer Rabbit was how everyone kept their spirits up--along with all of that beautiful singing. White people cannot sing as wonderfully as that! I'm sorry that slavery ever existed, but we don't know that this was slavery versus post-slavery times.

Regardless of your views of the content of the ideas expressed on the film, it is a snapshot of the past - mindset, ideas, etc.
Its also a reminder of just how far things have come.
There are MANY others - imagine Blazing Saddles (1974) playing uncensored today. Laugh-In (1967–1973) couldn't be shown without public outcry if not violent looting/protests.
76 years have passed since Song of the South...
49 years since Blazing Saddles...
Its important not to lose perspective TODAY and these movies/shows keep that yard stick in place as reminders.

While there has never been a DVD release by Disney of this film, bootleggers have made DVDs from the Laser Disc that was released in the 80s. Hence the quality of this is superior to VHS.
As for the film. Super insulting by any standard. But a notable part of History.

I'm sorry as someone born 50 or 60 years after this movie was made, I can't even watch it. I tried, but as soon as they got to the point of the people singing around a campfire I just had to turn it off. There's some really good black and white movies from back in the day. But a movie by Disney that has slavery in it, and then Disney tises that, it's just wrong on so many levels. I mean when I think of movies about slavery I think of Django, which is the ultimate payback movie. The only thing I ever saw of this movie was the song zippity Doo dah and I knew the names brer rabbit and bear Fox and that's pretty much it. And I can completely understand why this movie has been blacklisted. Not to mention the the fact is is Disney should have written into the script racism and how it affected someone's life. Even if it's just in simple terms that a 6 year old child could understand would be better than justifying a bunch of happy black people sitting around a campfire singing jolly songs about the south. When at the same time that this movie was being made black Americans were being hung murdered burnt raped and mutilated by southern white supremacist.
