This revealing and evocative drama-documentary was commissioned from the young and highly regarded Russian film maker Andrei Nekrasov. He uses a cast of fine Russian actors, together with archive film clips and Prokofiev's own writings, to tell the story of the composer's life and career in Russia and the West. Filmed entirely in Russia in early 1991, the film incorporates performances of a wide range of the maestro's music.
