today we start out on the humid side as we walk outside you will feel the humidity today. temperatures are not going to be as hot but it's muggy. muggy 77 degrees to start the day. we like 7s. north port and massapequa is 73. hauppauge 75 and east hampton 74. toms river 66 there with a wind out of the southwest today. by the time we get to the afternoon, 83 to 86 degrees. it's not as hot. you tack on the humidity, it will feel like 90. it's wednesday. i will give you the forecast for the weekend. how is that? >> awesome. i love that. >> okay, great. i have an ugly picture of the fdr coming up for you right here. it is bumper to bumper. a sea of brake lights heading on the northbound side. it's because of a construction project that leaves the right lane open. where is it? let's go to the maps. fdr southbound from 96 to 79th.
northbound from 63rd up to 96th street. we have street cleaning rules in effect. michelle over to you. >> thank you so much, heather. safe and sound. relief for rosie o'donnell and her family. >> her 17-year-old daughter found on the jersey shore a week after she disappeared. rosie tweeting thanks to everyone for help as she announced the search has ended. >> kala rama is live in south nyack. >> you said it, safe and sound. that is how it feels out here. it's the calm after the search party storm is now over after rosie o'donnell's teenage daughter is safe and sound at home after missing for a week. i am glad she is found, rosie. reporter: rosie o'donnell thanked everyone after chelsea was found safe.
this nyack police s.u.v. found her in barnegat. >> she was at a new jersey shore point. she was of sound mind and body, lucid. >> o'donnell's 850,000 twitter followers were alerted that chelsea was missing. the 17-year-old has a history of mental illness and left home with her therapy dog a week ago but not reported missing until sunday. rosie thought her daughter was staying at friends. police used her cell phone to track her down. the man who answered the door first denied she was there then cooperated with police. i checked rosie has not tweeted anything since her daughter was found 10 hours ago. everyone is home and happy. chelsea was adopted when she
was two months old. kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. check this morning, a gas leak forcing workers and guests out of a motel 6 near seattle, washington, in the middle of the evacuations, part of the building exploded critically injuring a gas company worker. she was alerted of the problem when a passerby told her a leak was in the back of the building. 70 guests were inside the hotel before the blast. thy police say the man -- thai police say the man being hunted did not act alone. a man with a yellow t-shirt held a backpack that had an explosive device. a woman was mode down, left lying in the street battered, bruised and broken. now she claims she knows who did it but says police will not touch the case.
the woman spent an air enter recovering while neighbors and lawyers recovered evidence digging up surveillance video of what happened to her. jim dolan has the story from brooklyn. >> reporter: doll see is back on her -- dolcy is back on her bike. the first words she heard after the accident were -- >> is she alive. >> reporter: this is surveillance video of the accident. watch the left side of the screen. when she gets hit, she and the bike get thrown to the pave. and the car just speeds a bay. now, watch from a different angle you can see how fast that car was going just before it hits canton. she broke some bones and even though she was wearing a helmet, the big problem was -- >> had a major brain bleed, a concussion. that entire night in the hospital they wouldn't give me painkillers or let me sleep. they kept saying every hour we may have to medevac you to the city. >> reporter: after she was hit by the car, horrified neighbors came running. they did more than look.
they tracked down the car that hit her parked several blocks away. the owner of that car's insurance company eventually settled a civil suit with miss canton but he was never prosecuted. the woman that answered at richard rivera junior's home said he was not there. watch again how fast the drift was going and how violently he hits dolcy canton. >> i don't feel comfortable with the fact that he is still driving. he is living his life, no consequences. that is frightening. >> reporter: it is. but in court it's difficult to prove who was driving a car, even when you can prove what car was involved in a particular incident. the nypd will say no arrests have been made in this case. in bushwick, jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. disturbing video of a brutal attack in upper manhattan. police want help finding a man seen beating and punching a
woman in harlem on august 2nd on west 138th street. the suspect got away with the woman's purse and iphone. she was not seriously injured. this morning six kennedy airport employees are facing criminal charges accused of stealing mail. prosecutors say they took part in a scheme to steal mail with $350,000 in cash. they targeted international flights transporting mail with foreign currency. a sickening crime in newark. police are looking for the grave robbers that stole human remains from a cemetery. they dade to the 19 40s. they were taken from a most lee yum from the mount pleasant cemetery. a town hall meeting in mount vernon over the death of a woman found dead in a jail cell in westchester county. the family of raynetta turner including her widower and her son attended the meeting. the 42-year-old mother died in
a police holding cell last month two days after being arrested for shoplifting. the cause of her death has not been determined. >> i would love to see for these people to answer some questions in my face. i would like to see the cameras that were filming the police station if they are supposed to check on their prisoners every 15 minutes, i want to see that. the state attorney general's office is investigating the case. >> funeral services will be held for the maryland man who visited thousands of sick children as batman. leonard robinson was killed this past weekend. his obituary touched on his 14 years of hospital volunteer work as the route 29 batman. he was known to spend $25,000 of his own money on batman items for kids every year. >> i know we covered him as well. amazing guy.

politician and civil rights champion. congressman louis stokes has died. he was the first african- american member of congress from ohio. he was elected in 1968. he served 15 consecutive terms. prior to that he was a distinguished attorney practicing several cases in front of the u.s. supreme court. he received countless honors during his life and career. he was also the father of my colleague, eyewitness news anchor lori stokes. louis stokes passed away last night at the age of 90 after a battle with cancer. our thoughts are with our dear friend lori and the entire stokes family this morning.

and from the george washington bridge we can show you that we have some good visibilities here through washington heights and on out to long island. today we are starting out with a temperature of 78 degrees. humidity 74%. that is high. winds are out of the south. that pumps up the moisture and the pressure is steady d. high yesterday made four 90-degree days in a row. we haven't had that since july of 2012 and .3 of an inch of rainfall yesterday morning. sun is up at 6:10. as the heat wave ends the humidity hangs on. a thunderstorm possible north and west of the city today. then tomorrow as well but the storms are going to stay spotty until we get to tomorrow night and into friday where they will be more numerous and we could have drenching flooding rain around. we are about 5 inches short of normal rainfall. u.v. index a 7. takes an hour you can get a sunburn. pollen count will be moderate

have a temporary suspension between exchange place and the world trade center. they are having signal problems. long island railroad, new jersey transit doing okay. metro north is okay. you have ongoing situation with the bridge work in bridgeport. one trains, no trains between penn and barclay center because of ongoing track work. fdr drive southbound from 96 to 79th street you have one lane closed down. northbound from 63rd up to 96th street two lanes are closed. as a result, we do have a heavy ride on the fdr drive. now, if if you are planning ongoing to the ed koch 59th street bridge, everything is moving well. no major problems there. we can show you a webcam, how it looks on the fdr drive. check out that delay. one lane is open. this is the northbound side. alternate side of the street parking rules in effect today. ken, over to you. >> thank you. time's square or times bear. topless women causing the

six weeks ago the fbi seized computers near his home. by that time they charged russell taylor, the head of the child pornography. fogle became a pitch man for subway 15 years ago after he loft 200 pounds on a diet of subway sandwiches. subway splendoraed its relationship with fogle. the case against tom brady back in court today but brady will not be there. roger goodell is expected to show up and neither is required to attend. the case centers around accusations that game balls were deliberately deplated. this court appearance is an opportunity for attorneys to make oral arguments following last friday's written submission saying the court has no right to interfere with the inbound terminal -- internal management of an organization. hillary clinton fires back

the brooklyn bandit that rides up to his victims on a bike and steals their jewelry. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is live in kwon any island. >> good morning, michelle. during the summer months the coney island boardwalk is a popular place to be. police say someone has gone on a robbery spree taking advantage of the summer crowds and particularly targeting elderly residents. take a look at this picture. this is the man police are looking for. you a authorities say he is -- authorities say he is responsible for the incidents that go back to july 3rd. so far police say he made off with gold chains and bracelets and has mainly targeted elderly residents ranging in age from 63 up to 81. the incidents began back in early july and the most recent took place on august 13th a few days ago when he stole a gold chain from a 63-year-old victim. many of the incidents have taken place in the west 30s,
usually in the afternoon in broad daylight. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers, 1- 800-577-tips. those calls remain confidential. reporting live in coney island, rob nelson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. a quick thinking manager saved lives when she ordered everybody out of a motel 6 right before it exploded. the blast and the fire that ignited destroyed much of the hotel in bremerton, that is right outside of seattle. one gas company worker was injured. 75 people were lucky to have survived. the acting hotel manager is a former volunteer firefighter. she academy instantly when a passerby said there was a leaking gas line at the back of the building. thai police say the boomer that -- bomber that killed 20 people did not act alone. the shrine reopened this morning three days after a man
with a yellow t-shirt left behind a back backpack with a bomb. police are trying to figure out what lead to a horrible scene in westchester county. candles are near the scene in accident. a 10-year old girl is dead and 12-year-old boy were run over after both were run over by the same ford explorer. they were with their mother when the kids fell out of the s.u.v. >> i guess it wasn't in the right gear and she started rolling back. i don't know how the boy and the girl got out of the car but then they got hit by the. >> the 12-year-old is recovering at jacobi medical center. the girl's mother was behind the wheel. no charges have been filed. police have released new surveillance video of the man they are looking for in a rape in brooklyn. authorities say that man attacked a woman in a stairwell
of an apartment building early monday morning. he threatened to shoot her and beat her in the face knocking out two teeth. she is in stable condition. national security leaker chelsea manning has been found guilty of violating prison rules. manning faces three weeks of restrictions at the kansas military prison where she is serving a 350 year sentence. manning -- 35 year sentence. the intelligence analyst formerly known as bradley manning was convicted of sending 700 classified documents to wikileaks. now to the race for 2016. hillary clinton is still being dodged by questions -- dogged by questions about her e-mail. >> reporter: a crazy week of dueling campaign events, tense moments on the trail.
bernie sanders is continuing to gain support holding a large rally in nevada. in the state yesterday, front- runner hillary clinton who had a heated exchange with a reporter at a las vegas campaign event. the topic, yes, her ongoing e- mail saga. >> my personal e-mails are my personal business, right? the former secretary of state asked did she try to wipe her private server. >> like what with a cloth or something. we have turned over the server. they can do whatever they want to figure out what is there or not there. that is for the people investigating it to try to figure out. but we turned over everything that was work related. every single thing. >> reporter: it has been that type of week for clinton. video emerged of her tense behind the scenes-- >> i don't believe you change hearts. you change laws, you change allocation of resources, you
change the way systems operate. >> reporter: the republicans are playing a game of dueling campaign events. front-runner donald trump proving nobody trumps trump announcing a town hall meeting in new hampshire at the same time as jeb bush's town hall. the two will be in the state to speak at major education summit. the rest of the week will be busy for g.o.p. candidates. trump who at last check was polling about 24% leading the pack, he just announced he is holding a large pep rally friday night in mobile, alabama. kenneth moten, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you so much. seven minutes away from weather and traffic beginning with we forecast. >> we take a look outside. here we go. looking from our camera at 4 time's square looking south. morning here. it's on the humid side. temperature is 77 degrees. we have partly cloudy skies. and the winds are calm. they will be mostly out of the
south then later on out of the southeast. back to the west, there is showers around state college but really this kind of humid air mass comes eastward. there might be a pop up thunderstorm north and west of the city. it will be humid, sticky today. the thunderstorm threat holds off until later thursday. we are looking at 78 at 9:00. 85 by noontime. 86 this afternoon with the humidity. it will feel like 90. heather is busy already this morning. weather then heather. how is it going? >> we have relief as far as the path trains. they are running once again with ten minute delays. the other mass transit systems are doing fine. track work on the subways have been cleared away. so let's go over to a webcam and show you something that has not been cleared away. fdr drive, northbound side getting up into the 70s. you can see that that delay is just jam packed. it's because only one lane is open on the northbound side but the southbound side you are going to find construction.
you have one lane blocked going southbound. we can take a look at another camera and show you a view from the area of the 59th street bridge looking across the east river at the fdr. that is the northbound side. you can see the traffic is jam packed. not a good place to be. street cleaning rules are in effect. ken, over to you. >> heather, thank you. this morning we remember the life and legacy of former ohio congressman low wise stokes. stokes was -- louis stokes. he was the first african- american member of congress from ohio. he served 15 consecutive terms in the house. before his time on capitol hill he practiced as a lawyer for 14 years and was an instrumental force in building relationships between police and communities. he was the father of my colleague eyewitness news anchor lori stokes. louis stokes passed away last night, a minute before midnight at the age of 90 with cancer. >> our thoughts are with lori and the entire stokes family this morning.
>> we will be right back. alaskan authorities say three men missing in a landslide are presumed dead. they went missing at a construction site about 100 miles south of the capitol. the slide came down on top of them. officials say the search will be a recovery effort. from roads to rivers, these are streets in south carolina. drivers and those on foot had to move slowly through waters that were getting pretty high. heavy downpours flooded the area. more rain expected today. tour rents of rain --
torrents of rain fell in chicago. a nasty morning commute. some roads were shut down for about an hour. relief not on the way today. another round of storms heading in that direction. bill evans joins us with the forecast that does not include that mess. >> oh, we take a look at the chrysler building and over to the east river. a pretty morning. hums in the 70% range. 80 in brooklyn and queens. around 90 over to newark. a stuffy morning. yesterday's high 90 made it four days in a row in the heat wave. the heat wave is over. we haven't had four consecutive days of 90-degree weather since july of 2012. hanover is 68. blairstown about 76 to newark and 75 trenton. 78 around the park. warm overnight numbers. southerly wind coming up making it warm and humid across our tri-state area. now we will look at sunshine
and breaks of that. a warm day, humid day. back to the great lakes and there is this cold front. travel to chicago may have delays there, cincinnati, indianapolis. this will slide eastward. that is gets coming eastward, late to us thursday or friday. a pop-up shower west of the area today. maybe a pop up thursday afternoon. thursday night and into friday this front moves through the area. friday thunderstorms in the morning and possibly into the afternoon. so, you got to make your travel plans around that, whatever you are doing for the weekend. thunderstorms friday night out on the eastern end of long island. so, the boating forecast, going to the beach, rip current risk is moderate at the beaches. a low risk at the jersey shore. winds out of the southeast 10 to 15 knots with gusts to 20 later on. waves two to three feet. not as hot today. 84 to 86. tomorrow 83 with sun and clouds.

disturbing video of a brutal attack in upper manhattan. police want your help finding a man scene beating and punching a woman in harlem. it happened on west 138th street. the suspect got away with her purse and iphone. she refused any medical help. this morning six kennedy airport employees are facing criminal charges, accused of stealing mail. prosecutors say the workers took part in a scheme to steal male containing about $250,000 in cash. three of the defendants worked as cargo handlers. in newark, police are looking for the grave robbers who stole human remains from a cemetery. police say they date back to the 1940s taken from a mass lee yum from the mount pleasant cemetery yesterday. no word on suspects. a town hall meeting in mount vernon over the death of a woman found dead in a jail cell in westchester county.
the family of raynetta turner were there. she died in a police holding cell last month two days after being arrested for shoplifting. the cause of death was not determined. >> i would love to see for these people to answer some questions in my face. i would like to see the cameras that were filming the police station if they are supposed to check on their prisoners every 15 minutes, i want to see that. >> the state attorney general's office is investigating the case. funeral services will be held for the maryland man that visited thousands of sick children as batman. leonard robinson was killed in a car accident this last weekend. his obituary touched on his 14 years of hospital volunteer work as the so-called route 29 batman. robinson was known to spend $25,000 of his own money on batman items for kids every year.

efforts to recover the bodies. images from the deadly plane crash in indonesia. rescuers are trying to remove the bodies from the wreckage. the crash killed all 54 people aboard. it took rescuers almost two days to reach the crash site because of the forest and terrain and bad weather. crews are getting creative to put out the fires out west. they battle the flames from the inside then hike back to safety. in washington state, the national guard is on the ground.

it will take about 48 hours to get here. a thunderstorm could pop up this afternoon north and west, maybe another on thursday but you see here comes the front. so, with the front sliding eastward, these showers and thunderstorms come in friday, friday morning, friday afternoon into friday evening. so, travel plans, 11:00 on friday night, everybody will be trying to get to the hamptons or over from connecticut on the ferry, back and forth, new london, fishers island, that will be a problem friday evening. a moderate risk of rip currents at the beaches. jersey shore a low rip current risk. not as hot, humid. 86 with 90. tonight we are down around 74. it's warm and it's sticky. then tomorrow it's still quite warm and sticky but it is august. it's 83. we will have scattered thunderstorms that pop up around tomorrow, tomorrow
