little bit on the cool side. a little chilly. we're looking at 49 degrees to start the day. you need jackets and sweaters this morning particularly on the hudson river valley. there's a few clouds around this morning. those swing out really quick. look at bridgeport, 52 and 54 at montauk. those numbers are warmer than normal. today we're going to be 15 degrees warmer than yesterday when we get to 68 degrees. it was 53 yesterday, a sunny but chilly day. today is going to be a sunny and pleasant day. a nice fall day with a southwest wind that will make it feel great. >> how's going out there this morning. >> we have a big closure with an ongoing accident investigation on long island where you can see where the closure is. this is the northern state parkway. we'll head to our maps. i'll tell you exactly where the closure is with an ongoing accident investigation. kristin thorne is going to be with us in a bit. a trains suspended between euclid avenue.

d trains between 205th street. then you have the 7 trains, no trains between queensboro plaza and 44th street. long island railroad is running on or close to schedule. new jersey transit is doing okay. no major problems with your path trains. your ferry systems are doing okay. as you head through new jersey, route 17 between century road and midland avenue, ongoing construction. you have two lanes closed down both directions. as you go to the george washington bridge heading inbound, the lower level is closed. if you're going inbound into the tolls we have construction, same situation, lincoln and the holland tunnels. our street cleaning rules are in effect. it's 4:32. we're following breaking news in chelsea where a fire is tearing through a building. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live now on west street with the latest.

that fire is now at 3 alarms and may go to a 4th. right now more than 100 firefighters on the scene. you can see behind me firefighters using multipresident ladder hoses to try to control of the fire. there is some concern that the fire might spread so they're trying to use as much water as possible to prevent that from happening. you can still see a significant amount of smoke still pouring out of the building. take a look at the video from earlier. you see flames shooting out of every window, especially on the top floors of this 6 story building. the fire has already burned through the roof of the building. the first call came in at 2:55 this morning, the building at 221 west 17th street is in the heart of chelsea. the building was under renovation, so there was no evacuations or rescues necessary, but certainly this is a significant setback for

no much left at all of this building. again, right now firefighters doing the best they can to prevent the fire from jumping or spreading to adjacent buildings. we're told right now none of the adjacent buildings, there have been no evacuations right now. that's a good thing. firefighters are still deep in the fight, and they are far from declaring this fire to be contained and under control. here's another live look again at those top floors. the 5th and 6th floors, still a lot of smoke coming out of the building. fortunately right now no reports of any injuries, but firefighters will be here for quite some time this morning trying to get a handle on this fire. we'll be here also throughout the morning. we're live in chelsea, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. and breaking right now on long island, a car speeding from suffolk county police loses control and crashes. at least one person was killed. it happened on the northern state parkway. eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne live with the latest for us. >> reporter: good morning, ken.

this all happened just around 2:30 this morning. we're still waiting for a lot of details to come in. those flashing lights you're seeing behind me, this is the entrance to the northern state parkway west from deer park avenue. it is shut down as well, even though the accident, this all happened on the eastbound side. we want to get right to it and show you pictures of this badly damaged suv. what we're hearing initially is that this driver may have fled police for some reason. obviously this person did not want to interact it appears with police, fled on the northern state parkway heading eastbound just east of deer park avenue around exit 42. that vehicle crashed, apparently burst into flames, and we are hearing that one person has died. again, waiting for a lot of details to come in at this point. what we can confirm that at least a good portion of the northern state parkway heading westbound and eastbound now shut down for this investigation. we will have here throughout

you updates as soon as we get them. kristin. thank you. and police have new images out this morning for the suspect in that sunday afternoon attack on a woman in a public restroom in union square park. police have put together a sketch that they've just released. they have also grabbed video images from more than 100 cameras in the neighborhood around the park. now they say the woman bit her attacker and drew blood. in addition to the videos, they have collected blood evidence from the scene to search for a dna match. also this morning, we're hearing from the family of the youngest victim of a deadly crash involving a bronx cab. >> they died when a cab slammed into them in march, driver emelio garcia has been charged with manslaughter, speaking

>> i'm not going to have her. she was only 5. she miss her 6th birthday, and it's unfair. >> prosecutors say garcia was diagnosed with epilepsy months before the fatal crash. investigators say he did not take his prescribed medication the day of the crash. garcia is being held on $100,000 bail. his trial is set to start in january. it's 4:37. right now police are searching for the man who stole a car on long island with a baby inside. police say gail solomon left her car running yesterday with her 4-month-old niece in the backseat. eyewitnesses say the man jumped in and drove off. the car was found not far away. the child was not harmed. the aunt has been harmed with child endangerment. 4:37. now to the latest on the condition of the former nba star lamar odom. odom was discharged and transported to a hospital in

los angeles for further treatment. a spokeswoman says he is overcoming insurmountable obstacles. oscar pistorius is waking up at home after serving less than a year of a five-year sentence in prison for killing his girlfriend reeva steencamp. he was released from a south african prison and is now under house arrest he hoped to be released in august but a judge ruled that it was too early. new this morning, mayor bill de blasio will sign three bills to snuff out the growing problem of synthetic marijuana also known as k2. the new law will criminalize the manufacturing and the sale of the drug. the punishment will be up to a year in prison $15,000. any business selling k2 will be at risk of having their cigarette license suspended or revoked. repeat offenders could be shut down permanently. the road to the world series takes the mets to

first responders don't always have a go pro camera working when they save a life but in texas an emt training class turned into a water ride to catch up with a young boy who was drowning after he fell off his inner tube. the commander of the class kept

another instructor threw out a rescue rope and pulled the boy the rest of the way in to safety. police have made an arrest in that shocking motorcycle crash caught on camera. a motorcyclist was passing two cars in texas, still in texas here, when one of the cars appears to deliberately swerve into the motorcycle causing it to crash. the 68-year-old driver of that car under arrest for aggravated assault. 4:45. let's check in with meteorologist bill evans. >> how about we take you to the beach. >> all right. >> okay. >> that be okay with you? >> yeah. >> we start out with our look at asbury park. a look at the convention center right down the main drag and right down the boardwalk. there's the beach. we can see all the way down almost to point pleasant which is about a 20-mile, 23-mile visibility down the jersey shore. monmouth and ocean county. here's what's happening when we look from our camera in brooklyn over to the east side here this morning. here's what's happening, the temperature 49 degrees.

and the winds are southwest at 7. our pressure has been rising which is a good sign of high pressure that is giving us this great weather today. the high is sliding eastward. the barometer's dropped just a little bit. but when it slides eastward it gives us a southwest wind that warms us up nicely. yesterday's high was 53, below our normal of 62. normal overnight low is right around 49, and we're looking at sunshine at 7:12 when the sun is up. not as chilly as this morning. we are looking at 30s and 40s in the suburbs. nice turn around today, back to the upper 60s. warmer tomorrow and wednesday, and thursday night a cold front comes through, makes it cooler for the weekend. your air quality is just fine. the pollen count is still up there for ragweed. ragweed sufferersdown that. if you've got something going on, that's what it is. it's ragweed season through the end of the month until we get a good killing frost. 47 north port to massapequa. 48 hauppauge in the 50s this

east hampton out to montauk and orient point and shelter island. with a southwest wind here, it will make it warmer today. look at jfk. the wind's at 17. 12 at islip, 14 montauk with this nice flow out of the south. with a southerly wind, a southwest wind it keeps this front at bay here. this high is warm to the south. this high is chilly to the north. eventually this wins out, but really not until thursday. we're looking at milder air coming in here today, this high out in the atlantic holds this front off, and so that stays to the north with some showers along that. it's even warmer tomorrow before all this kind of sweeps through the area thursday night and for the weekend. baseball in chicago tonight right around 65 with a southwest wind at 10 to 15. going to be some nice weather. we have sunny and warmer weather. 68 degrees. tonight it's partly cloudy, not as cold. 50 in the suburbs, 55 around the five boroughs and then look at this pleasant sunshine tomorrow, high around 73. 11 degrees warmer than normal

with him. >> he had been threatening her that he would kill the whole family if she left him. >> he took part of me when he took them. >> police say officers had been called to the family's home in glendale three times in the past year. a texas teenager arrested as a potential threat was a guest at the white house, ahmed mohamed was invited by the white house to attend astronomy night. he got handcuffed for making a homemade clock for a science project that his teacher mistakenly thought was a bomb. good app and better friends help track down a missing college student. this cell phone video shows the moment emergency workers in atlanta rescued jimmy hubert. the georgia tech student disappeared friday night after walking away from a frat party. his friend took up the search using the find my iphone app. they eventually found him on a stretch of railroad tracks. >> we were about to turn

and midland avenue, that's construction. they've been doing this for a couple weeks now. two lanes are closed until 6 a.m. clearing it earlier. george washington bridge lower side. outbound upper level that construction is clearing. you do have minor delays across the board at our hudson's harlem river drive. right lane closure and street cleaning rules are in effect. thank you. updating breaking news that heather just mentioned, at least one person was killed in a crash on the northern state parkway. police now confirming this this morning, involved a driver who refused to pull over. eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live on the scene in dix hills suffolk county. good morning kristin. >> good morning lori. this entire thing happened just a short timing a around 2:30 this morning. we're still waiting on a lot of details from police. these flashing lights you're seeing behind me, this is the entrance to the northern state parkway west. this is deer park avenue right behind me. you can see that is shut down

even though this entire thing happened on the eastbound side. we want to get to it and show you the pictures we have of this badly damaged suv. initially we're hearing from police that there was some sort of chase, that they tried to pull over the driver of this vehicle. that person fled, continued to drive away, eventually crashing into vehicle. we heard that the vehicle may have burst into flames, and now we know that at least one person has died. so, again, still a lot of details that we need to get here. for example, what were they initially trying to pull this person over for. we don't know that just yet. what we do know is that a large portion of the northern state parkway both westbound and eastbound is now shut down for this investigation around the dix hills area. we're talking exit 41, 42. if you're leaving the house in a few minutes you want to plan accordingly. i'm kristin thorne channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. 5:03, breaking in manhattan, firefighters right now battling a massive 4-alarm fire on west

17th and chelsea. the commanders who were at the scene worried about that fire spreading. that's why they called in more help just minutes ago. up to this point there have been no injuries, no evacuations from the adjoining structures. we have a live look at the scene. the fire building was under renovation. so that may explain why flames were able to spread more quickly burning right up through the roof. 5:04. new this morning, police have released new pictures of a violent armed robber. this is summers video here of the -- surveillance video of the man attacking a woman in manhattan early saturday morning. 15 minutes earlier police say that same suspect robbed a man outside an east village apartment building. both victims expected to be just fine. 5:04. an angry mother in queens now looking for a pit bull mix that mauled her 8-year-old daughter. the dog attacked the girl in long island city ripping off into her head. doctors used 60 stitches to close her wounds.

she's still going to need more surgery. >> put hands on dog's chest, expected the dog to lick her, instead the dog mauled her in the face and the temple and next thing i see her all covered in blood. >> police believe they have located the dog, but they say no crime was committed, so they won't release the owner's name. the little girl's mom would at least like to see the dog's vaccination records so they know if there's other potential problems to watch out for. time is 5:05. new this morning, a famous name is back in power north of the border, justin trudeau is followed in his dad's footsteps. the liberal picked up an overwhelming victory. justin trudeau became the second youngest prime minister in canada's history.

5:11. we have new details on the death of a long island dermatologist. investigators say it was a tragic accident. medical examiner revealing the lethal amount of cocaine and alcohol killed 38-year-old kristin cerveny. the mother of 3 was partying with friends when one of them called 9-1-1. her body was found in the doorway of a chelsea apartment building. no charges have been filed. 5:11 now. happening today, manhattan's largest apartment complex is said to get a new owner and keep much of its middle class housing. reports say it will be sold to a wall street investment group for $5.3 billion. the deal reportedly calls for

nearly half of the 11,000 unit complex to be reserved for middle and lower income residents. a picture that may show the most infamous iceberg in history is going up for auction. an old photo believed to be linked to the titanic could fetch tens of thousands of dollars at auction. the grainy black and white shot was taken the morning of april 15th, 1912, hours after the titanic sank. it was taken by the chief stored aboard another ocean liner who reported seeing red paint visible on the iceberg. he was unaware the titanic had sunk. a british auction house is handling the sale. it is 5:12. yesterday i was honored to be the master of ceremonies at this awesome event i love to do every year. it's honoring a u.s. senator, and it honored new york city deputy mayor for their work and other good folks too. >> okay.

>> reporter: lori this accident happened on the eastbound side of the parkway. what you're seeing behind me here, this is the westbound side, the side we're on. you can see that the entrance here from deer park avenue to northern state parkway is shut down. we want to show you the video we have of this burned out suv. again, now that is resting just east of exit 42 on the northern state parkway. we are hearing initially that police tried to pull over this driver. the driver proceeded to flee the scene eventually crashing. we are hearing that that car may have burst into flames. we know at least one person has died. this all happened around 2:30 in the morning, so what was the initial reason why they were trying to pull over this driver? we just don't know that yet. we're still waiting for a lot of details to come in. what we can tell you is if you're heading out this morning, you usually take the northern state parkway, it is now closed both directions eastbound and westbound between exits 41 and 42. so make sure you plan accordingly. we'll be live on scene

as soon as we get them. we're live in dix hills, i'm kristin thorne channel 7 eyewitness news. >> wow. thank you. at 5:33. we just got an update from firefighters on the scene of a stubborn fire in manhattan, huge flames gutted a building that was under renovation this morning. eyewitness news reporter dray clark live at the scene in chelsea. >> good morning, ken. that fire now stands at 4 alarms and right now firefighters are in the process of setting up a collapse zone because they're concerned about the stability of the building and because of that, they're also conducting evacuations for buildings 218 through 224 here on west 17th street. behind me you can see that is the building where the fire happened this morning. 221 west 17th street. there was still smoke coming from the building, but certainly not as much as we saw earlier this morning when the fire initially broke out. lets go ahead and show you some video. the first call came in around 2:55 this morning. this is what firefighters were up against when they arrived,

flames coming out of the building here, pretty much coming out of every window of the 6 story building. now the building was under renovation, so there was no evacuations and no rescues necessary. certainly firefighters were very concerned when you have that much flames coming out of the building those flames might jump to adjacent buildings. they were able to employ their surround and drown technique and prevent that from happening. now the focus has shifted from the stability of the building because they used so much water on the building and because of the fire damage they're very concerned this building could collapse at any moment. because of that they are now conducting those evacuations. right now here back now live a number of firefighters here on the scene, more than 100 firefighters and luckily so far no injuries, but, again, the fire still not considered -- the fire still not considered under control. meanwhile we talked to one man who actually works across the street and describes what he saw when the fire initially broke out.

>> we see a whole bunch of smoke and a whole block is black. everything is pitch black. when the fire department came, they all went around with their lights, their sirens on. they was able to light up the block a little bit and that's when the flames started to come up in the air. the whole building went up in flames. >> back here live again, you can see smoke still coming out of the building. this fire is still not considered under control and not contained thus far, and right now firefighters now in the process of conducting those evacuations for buildings 218 through 224 here on west 17th street as they are still very much concerned about the stability of the building where the fire initially broke out. we're live in chelsea this morning. dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dray, at 5:35, police have new images out this morning for that suspect in the sunday afternoon attack on a woman in a public restroom in union square park. police have put together a sketch they just released. they grabbed video images from more than 100 cameras in the

into the account belonging to homeland security secretary jay johnson. some material from brennan's account has been posted online. the fbi now investigating the breach. a new landmark study of schizophrenia is calling into question the long standing treatments for the illness. doctors currently rely on strong doses of antipsychotic drugs. they can blunt hallucination but also come with difficult side effects ranging from tremors to severe weight gain. a new study suggests smaller doses pays off better when coupled with one on one talk therapy and strong family support. some spectacular damage from a sunday wind storm in arizona. it destroyed 15 of 38 warehouses and severely damaged the ones that are still standing. the flying pieces of the buildings also did a job on local power lines. the owner of the warehouses
