weather and traffic together every seven minutes. heather's looking into that commute and got your hands full already. >> mass traffic it is running on or close to schedule including your subway. we have that accident at the sheridan, that crash there. then going to the ed koch to 59th street bridge. on the l.i.e. heading westbound at springfield boulevard, two lanes are blocked off as you go through that spot. the belt parkway west crash is still being blocked. as you take it into new jersey. this is 22 westbound springfield road into springfield avenuep we have all lanes closed and you have have heavy delays into the area.

accident. i was talking about that problem on 22 and news copter 7 is there to give us an update. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, heather. we have good news for you here. you can see that car on the roadway just as we arrived on the scene in spring field. as you said this was an overnight accident with a full road closure. not a lot of traffic down there right now, but again, good news as you travel union into springfield westbound app westbound on 22. all lanes just reopened. john del giorno, channel 7 "eyewitness news." now to that breaking news in new jersey, new jersey city specifically with a fast- moving. the fire began less than two hours ago on irving street. mallory? >> reporter: good morning. three kids, two adults injured in the fire.

expected to be okay. i will get out of the way to show you what is going on as fire crews continue to deal with the situation here. fire crews have been on this area for a difficult firefight. the fear, we're told, is now under control. this is irving street in jersey city as fire crews work to get the fire under control. they had to keep it from moving to the houses next door. the damage, we're told, could have begun much worse. there various some tense moments fighting the fire. one firefighter transmitted a may day but then reported he was out of the house uninjured. >> he may have gotten disoriented inside and made his way out to the balcony area. they did find him. he was in good condition.

he was cut across the face while working at a diner on la guardia. seat. dray clark is live. dray? >> reporter: the suspect is between 15 and 17 years old. first, let's talk about the victim, who is a waiter here at the diner. he is 25 years old from the bronx. as you mentioned a moment ago, he needed 120 stitches to close the wound on the left side of his face. police say a teenage suspect initially walked into the diner carrying a folder asking customers for money to support his high school basketball team.

the teen came back and the waiter asked him to leave for a second time. as they were going towards in the door, the victim was slashed in the take place. it happened so quickly, customers didn't know what happened. >> i thought somebody got mugged because a lady was sitting outside. i didn't realize until afterwards that it was something more. >> reporter: police immediately flooded the area trying to find that suspect, but he remains on the run this morning. meanwhile, the victim was take ton bellevue hospital where he was treated and released. again, the assailant is said to be between 15 and 17 years old last seen wearing a gray hoody carrying a purple folder as

it's 6:14. there are mass hour outages in california after a deadly multicar crash. three vehicles crashed pulling three transformers to the ground last night in los angeles. one fell on a pickup truck, killing the driver. firefighters then shut down the intersection as they cleared the power lines from the street. time now 6:14 and onto the race for president flashing a dangerous sign for donald trump just days before the republican primary in south carolina. the poll shows a new national front-runner among republicans, and it's ted cruz with 28% to trump with 26%. marco rubio is third with 27%. the numbers amped up last night's gop town hall. >> both donald trump and marco

we're headed towards sunrise. i'm watching the wind. it's windy out here. yesterday's high was 39. so we're looking at what's going to be a windy morning here as the sun gets up. 23 mile-per-hour wind in hopatcong. this morning, we've got these winds that continue to be out of the northwest, 12, 13, 14 miles per hour. the wind is coming and going from a 9 to 17 mile-per-hour wind and makes you feel like the teens to the north and 21 across long island. so today, we see ourselves with the clouds and sun, a northwest flow here with this arc out of canada making it chillier today. we see the winds get going as the sunday gets up. this afternoon, the temperatures will be in the mid

tomorrow morning, we'll have teens to the north, mid-20s from the 30s south and east. then we have the clouds on friday night that come in late in the day. that could give us warm air that's surging up from west to east. that makes the temperatures rise overnight as we go into saturday. sunny and chilly today with 37. normal high is 42. it will be like the 20s with the winds today. 14 the suburbs tonight and 24 in the five boroughs. tomorrow night, we have a sprinkle or a little snow shower. that's because we've got this warm air surging up. then look at saturday. sunshine 55 degrees at 54 on sunday. then we'll see that we'll keep an eye on the storm tuesday into wednesday next week with rain and snow. temperatures are warm, so it could be some mixing going on with a slop-fest into the commute on wednesday. weather wise, a chilly morning. dress warmly.

on the money this morning, wall street saw another day of gains thanks to a boost in manufacturing data. the dow jones starts the day at 16,453. the nasdaq 30s composite gab 2% higher as well. overseas, japan's hong kong hang seng finished up as well. the 1,066 foot building would be the highest tower in brooklyn and would include stores and nearly 500 rental apartments. mcdonald's is turning to craft beers to help spur business in south korea. it is the first time alcohol will be served at a golden arches in asia in more than a decade. they will test it in one location serving it with its gourmet customized burgers known as signature burgers. if the beer does help bring in

an investigation is now under way. mallory hoff, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you. it's 6:33. for the second time in recent weeks, we're learning about a brutal attack showing the defenseless drivers, men in their 60s, punched repeatedly in the face. first time in brooklyn and then in the bronx where the suspect continues to be on the run. the man has an exchange with the 69-year-old driver dennis dunwell then punches him. he steps off the bus and then attacks him for a second time. >> he give me the hardest shot and punched me in the eye. two hands, and i couldn't fight back. >> last week, another mta driver was attacked behind the wheel on a packed b8 bus. the driver picked 8-year-old

lineup earlier this week. he is accused of attacking the driver while the bus was moving. surveillance images from a street in brooklyn offering the only clue in the search for a predator. the suspect trayed to lure a 14-year-old tuesday while she was walking home from sheepshead bay. the man put his arm around the girl and wouldn't let go. the girl managed to pull her arm free and that's when he ran away. also in brooklyn, new information this morning in a gunpoint kidnapping. we now have a sketch of one of the suspects. detectives say this is one of two men who forced the victim into a minivan in flatlands. an eyewitness says he saw two men pistol whip the victim and stab him. the man was left a few miles away in east flatbush. an armed robber is on a dangerous crime spree targeting women all around manhattan. police say he's hit five times since january, telling women he

in several instances, he followed a victim into an apartment building and robbed her in the elevator. the crimes span from the upper east side and east village and chelsea. we're seeing video of the young man and woman accused of viciously assaulting a tourist leaving him with a fractured skull. the two are charged with felony assault. police say anderson sucker punchedded a tourist from arkansas on monday while trying to sell phony tickets to the liberty island ferry. the victim was knocked unconscious and taken to bellevue hospital. happening today, we're going to hear more from commissioner william bratton on the apple encryption situation. a federal magistrate ordered apple to create software to help break into an iphone used by one of the san bernardino terrorists. investigators say the phone is

a decades old murder investigation may have been solved. prosecutors re-examined dna evidence showing robert zuriski sexually assaulted and murdered 18-year-old mary clinski. he died in prison in 2008 sevenning a life sentence in another teen's murder and awaiting trial for allegedly killing a 13-year-old girl. ahead, the centers for disease control says puerto rico could be the next zika hot spot. the warning says there could be tens of thousands of infections combined with a shore increase in the number of babies born with a microcephaly. 6:42. a hospital is forced to pay thousands to cure a virus in its computer system. hollywood presbyterian medical center handed over 40 bit coins, about $17,000 to rescue its computer network from hackers. a spokesperson for the los angeles facility says the payment was in the best

the fbi now looking into the case of so-called ransom-ware. new this morning, an e- mail attachment may leave some hurt feelings at an elementary school. this very sarcastic document is called a hurt feelings report. it was mistakenly attached to a mailing sent to parents in wilmington, der ware that says its purpose is to assist whiners in documenting hurt feelings. it also asks for the whiners' name and the type of whine used. the district spokesperson called the mailing an embarrassing mistake. other news happening today, new york city's pay phones are getting a high-tech makeover. mayor de blasio will unveil the link nyc program at noon. the new stations will replace the city's outdated pay phone booth. the upgrade will feature a tablet computer, free wi-fi,

over here to the right. let's go to the maps. we have 46 closed down. all traffic is being diverted for hollisster road. you had a bridge strike from garden city. metro-north is doing okay. five minutes inbound except for the palisades approach. lincoln and holland is a 20- minute delay. we have a problem as you travel onto the garden state parkway southbound, that is an accident. you have a big buildup as you head to that spot. this accident is still with us, ed koch 59th street bridge lower level going into queens. so you are going to find a major backup on the bridge as a result of that. the l.i.e. west springfield boulevard accident pushed off to the shoulderp check out that delay going through queens. our street cleaning rules are in effect for today. ken, lori, over to you. coming up, the dishing escape by two teenagers with a

remain in effect well into the morning rush. john del giorno, channel 7 "eyewitness news." 6:57. also breaking now in new jersey. firefighters putting out hot spots after a house fire left several team hurt. mallory? >> reporter: ken, lori, good morning. two doubts and three kids injured. we are learning, though, all are expected to be okay. you can see crews are in the process of mopping up. this fire started at 4:15 this morning. it moved extremely quickly. crews had to work to protect the surrounding homes in the area. homes are close together. we're also learning this morning that a man inside actually smelled smoke and woke everyone else in the home up. things could have been a lot worse had that not be the case. back out here live this morning, investigators are working to determine the cause of this fire. live in jersey city, mallory hoff, channel 7 "eyewitness news." happening right now, police are on the hunt for a young suspect in the slashing of a waiter.

village. dray, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say the suspect is between 15 and 17 years old and is accused of slashing a waiter across the face at the silver spurs restaurant in greenwich village around 8:00 last night. police say that teenage suspect walked into the restaurant asking customers for money, and as the waiter tried to escort him out of the restaurant, police say the teenage suspect suddenly turned around and slashed the waiter across the face and ran away. that waiter was taken to bellevue hospital where he had to receive 120 stitches to close the wound on the left side of his face. police described the suspect as between 15 and 17 years old wearing a gray hoody carrying a purple folder and small gym bag. if you have any christmas, give police a call. dray clark, chance 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you. we heard john talk about that accident on route 46 in teeterboro. we also have an incident on the
