a long shot in the primary, is scheduled to make stops in great neck before heading to the upper east side. gop front-runner donald trump is headed upstate to syracuse in watertown. trump held a rally last night telling supporters there he's not worried about a contested convention. >> then we have a rigged system on top of it. despite the rigging, i think we get there before the convention. i think we do. >> reporter: the businessman has all but thrown in the towel in wyoming where ted cruz is today. cruz picked up nine delegates in the state during last month's convention. on the democratic side, bernie sanders met with the pope and described it as a real honor. meantime, sanders' supporters protested outside of hillary clinton's fund raiser last night. it cost $350,000 per table.

roads and cause even further damage. the death toll has risen and another 1500 have been injured. many are still believed to be trapped under fallen homes and buildings throughout the country. a firefighter has died. another was seriously injured after responding to a welfare check in maryland. firefighters and officers forced their way into a temple hills home after the person inside was unresponsive. then this is what happened. that person opened fire hitting two firefighters, and the person who made the call for the welfare check as well. one of those firefighters later died. the other is in critical condition this morning. one person is in custody cooperating with police. more than $5 million worth of heroin has been seized. ten people were arrested when investigators busted the heroin packaging operation. about 22 pounds of heroin,

the operation used names like batman, superman, and x box to brand the drug. all ten people are facing multiple drug-related charges. police in brooklyn are investigating the assault of a hasidic man as crime. two young men walked up to him. one distracted him while the other threw a punch. >> he asked for the time. as i started pulling away, the other punched me in the face. they could have picked anybody. they circled around and i think chose me personally for who i was. >> reporter: he was able to jump off of the forklift and wrestle one of the suspects to the ground. the one who actually threw the punch was able to run away. police in new jersey are trying to figure out who gunned down four people in orange, killing one of them. a makeshift memorial was set up at the spot where 17-year-old devon jones was shot dead thursday night. three other males were treated for gunshot wounds. police say the suspects fled the scene in a green ford explorer. a nassau county barber shop will be cleaning up instead of opening its doors this morning after an out-of- control car smashed right through the window. witnesses say the suv was going slowly, but not stopping as it rolled closer and closer to the prestige barber shop. this is in syosset. all of this happened just after 5:00 yesterday evening near underhill and jackson avenues. the owner of the barber shop tells "eyewitness news" the suv ended up completely inside his shop. >> i could see a car that wasn't speeding but was driving towards the window. then it slammed through it and kept driving. i heard the guy saying that the brakes are not stopping.

a murder in a shelter. he was found in the bellevue men's shelter in kips bay. police say the room was the scene of an obviously bloody struggle. this is another setback for the city's shelter system. four other people have been killed in other attacks in shelters so far this year. a major shake-up at the city's housing authority following a series of deadly elevator accidents in the bronx. five employees have now been disciplined and the head of elevator services has been replaced. they are making changes to improve safety and response to emergencies. among them, training, more accountability and also improved communications. the agency plans to create a building code monitoring system. happening today, the attorneys at the center of a controversial crime documentary

denver, up to a half foot of snow expected today, right? that's going to keep them busy out west, but here, high pressure is in control. really, the eastern half of the u.s. looks good right through the weekend into monday. then we'll see a transition. take the mild temperatures. even when we see the change coming in early in the week, all it does is give us a shower. cools us off only a few degrees. this april spring pattern is here to stay. i should say true april compared to what we had last couple of weekends. tonight, 46 in the city. 30s in the suburbs. it's cool overnight. outlying areas could see temperatures colder in the low to mid-30s. by tomorrow, mostly cold and warmer. watch the gradual warm-up pushing the upper 70s by monday. so we take a today. then a few tomorrow. by monday, we push those numbers to 78. here's the change here. a cold front coming in on tuesday, but only knocks the numbers down a few degrees
