it's good to be back. it is going to be a glorious weekend, no? >> you guys look good this morning. everybody's refreshed and ready to go. we hit the ground running with very spring-like temperatures over the weekend here. beautiful numbers. better than yesterday. it keeps getting better as the days roll on. we're above average and what a beautiful start to the day we've got. we've got sun splashing across the city. 44 degrees currently. that's coming out of central park. looking at this map, yesterday, we hit a high of 65. shots. radar and satellite picture showing that we've got high pressure in control. so no storms today or tomorrow. that's a good sign of a beautiful weekend. temperature changes already showing up for monticello and andover. temperatures. we're in the mid-40s right now here in the city, but there are

colder. so north and west, we've dipped into the 30s overnight. i think we'll be just fine as far as temperatures go for the next couple of nights for frost and freeze. this day ahead is in the mid-60s. 70s are in the accuweather forecast. i'll see you guys there. >> most of the candidates are far from the state today. while hillary clinton mingles with donors in california. bernie sanders spends time with the pope. a long shot in the primary, is scheduled to make stops in great neck before heading to the upper east side. gop front-runner donald trump is headed upstate to syracuse in watertown. trump held a rally last night telling supporters there he's not worried about a contested convention. >> then we have a rigged system on top of it. despite the rigging, i think we get there before the convention. i think we do. >> reporter: the businessman has all but thrown in the towel in wyoming where ted cruz is today. cruz picked up nine delegates in the state during last month's convention. on the democratic side, bernie sanders met with the pope and described it as a real honor. meantime, sanders' supporters protested outside of hillary clinton's fund raiser last night. it cost $350,000 per table.

toward's clinton's campaign and democratic national convention. protesters held signs reading "hillary, you can't sit with us unless you have money." hillary clinton does lead sanders by 350 delegates. bill clinton will be campaigning on behalf of his wife today. michelle? >> the upcoming primary will be the subject of sunday morning's "up close" at 11:00 right here on channel 7. other news now. rescue efforts are kinking today in southern japan. crews are now searching for 11 students believed to be trapped under a collapsed apartment. forecasted rain and heavy winds could hamper efforts there.

roads and cause even further damage. the death toll has risen and another 1500 have been injured. many are still believed to be trapped under fallen homes and buildings throughout the country. a firefighter has died. another was seriously injured after responding to a welfare check in maryland. firefighters and officers forced their way into a temple hills home after the person inside was unresponsive. then this is what happened. that person opened fire hitting two firefighters, and the person who made the call for the welfare check as well. one of those firefighters later died. the other is in critical condition this morning. one person is in custody cooperating with police. more than $5 million worth of heroin has been seized. ten people were arrested when investigators busted the heroin packaging operation. about 22 pounds of heroin,

the operation used names like batman, superman, and x box to brand the drug. all ten people are facing multiple drug-related charges. police in brooklyn are investigating the assault of a hasidic man as crime. two young men walked up to him. one distracted him while the other threw a punch. >> he asked for the time. as i started pulling away, the other punched me in the face. they could have picked anybody. they circled around and i think chose me personally for who i was. >> reporter: he was able to jump off of the forklift and wrestle one of the suspects to the ground. the one who actually threw the punch was able to run away. police in new jersey are trying to figure out who gunned down four people in orange, killing one of them. a makeshift memorial was set up at the spot where 17-year-old devon jones was shot dead thursday night. three other males were treated for gunshot wounds. police say the suspects fled the scene in a green ford explorer. a nassau county barber shop will be cleaning up instead of opening its doors this morning after an out-of- control car smashed right through the window. witnesses say the suv was going slowly, but not stopping as it rolled closer and closer to the prestige barber shop. this is in syosset. all of this happened just after 5:00 yesterday evening near underhill and jackson avenues. the owner of the barber shop tells "eyewitness news" the suv ended up completely inside his shop. >> i could see a car that wasn't speeding but was driving towards the window. then it slammed through it and kept driving. i heard the guy saying that the brakes are not stopping.

welcome gabbing, everybody. the city of new york reached a tentative deal with uber. the city wanted to ban uber. there were all kinds of disputes going on over taxes, licensing, and also background checks. a statement issued late last night said the city's taxi and limousine industry would be protected, however, that statement gave no details. we'll continue to follow that and give you the details when they are announced. two children took matters into their own hands when their drunk father got behind the wheel. the two children in nebraska say they were headed on vacation with their father. they knew something was not right when they kept swerving and getting closer to other drivers, so the 12 and 14-year- olds decided to text police telling them that their dad was drunk. they say they finally got him to pull over when they asked for food. >> he looked back at us and said, you've been texting the cops?

33 is the coldest spot on the map in wrightstown. looking through the afternoon, temperatures easily get to 60 degrees by midday. yesterday, we had 65. we do better this afternoon taking our temperatures in the upper 60s. expect this. mild temperatures continuing all weekend. the warm-up continues as well. monday, temperatures continue to climb. we will be cooler at the coast, so look for the temperatures to be a few degrees lower in those locations. so if you are running to the beach or heading shore, know that the temperatures are slightly cooler. you can see radar and satellite and even clouds are few and far between. we keep this high pressure system in place and allows for warmer air to come up. so we hit the 70 degree mark for the second half of the

so our quality is good. if you are going to rate this day on a scale of 1 to 10, this one is near the top of the charts. we'll call it a 9 on the freeze factor scale. really high up there, only because we're not going to the tens. we'll reserve it for tomorrow. that's how nice weekend will be. breezy at times. that is the only kink, i guess, if you call it into the upper 60s, a nice breeze will do us just fine. clear and cool tonight in the suburbs, we'll go 30s and 46. low 70s in the accuweather seven-day forecast pushing that to 78. really nice on monday. a very warm wind is coming in. we cut the numbers back for the middle of the week. there we are thursday into friday. easy to take weather like this. we're not the only ones. the entire eastern third of the u.s. under this beautiful weather pattern.

support in new york ahead of next week's primary. tuesday's going to be a big day here. hillary clinton is out in california raising money. her rival bernie sanders wrapped up a different kind of meeting. he did meet with the pope himself. good morning, marcus. >> good morning. the last week or so has featured presidential campaigning new yorkers haven't seen in a very long time. a bit of a lull today with tuesday's trip to the polls. bernie sanders spoke with pope francis for about five minutes this morning before the possibilityive left for greece. this comes as the candidate's campaign released his 2014 federal tax return. his rival hillary clinton called for the vermont senator to do so during this week's debate. >> i think if you look at the releases, look at the tax forms, there's not much more to dump.

it was the scene of a bloody struggle, another crisis for the city's shelter system. four other people have been killed in other attacks in new york city shelters so far this year. a 1-year-old girl has survived being shot in the head in a drive-by shooting. the baby was in the backseat of the car with family when another driver drove by and shot at the car. the mother immediately stepped on the gas and rushed the baby to the hospital. the shooter is still on the loose. more body parts have been found by sanitation workers in seattle. police say they likely belong to a woman killed by a man who dumped other parts of her body in a different recycling bin. the parts were found three blocks from where police say ingrid line was killed. john charlton said he went to a

of three just over a week ago but was so drunk he does not remember what happened afterwards. a major shake-up at the city's housing authority following a series of deadly elevator accidents in the bronx. five employees have been disciplined and the head of elevator services has now been replaced. he says it's also making changes to improve safety and its response time to emergencies. among them, more staff training, more accountability and better communications. the agency plans to create a building code monitoring system. it was almost a last call for a popular bar in new jersey. now little falls is celebrating a small victory for this 92- year-old establishment. the great notch inn is passed by hundreds of people each day. it is definitely a landmark. a new expansion plan was ready to use imminent domain to widen the highway and take down the beloved roadhouse.
