visibility because of the warm temperatures and the rain. we get to newburgh and the same for morristown. temperatures will be easy to take for today. really, the weekend looks good. on the accutrack, showers still happening out on long island. we've still got a few creeping through the mid-hudson valley. we'll get rid of the rain by mid to late morning. so it doesn't last all day, but surfaces will be damp as things get along the way today. watch how quickly showers move off to the south and east. by midday, everything is looking good. i don't know if it's going to be quick enough to dry out the field and surfaces for the games early on. at least we shake the showers. here is a look at central park through the early to mid- afternoon. i'll have the accuweather seven- day forecast coming up next. i'll see you then, rob. as we said, we are following a developing story

a driver is on the run after hitting a church van that was full of children. >> people who were at the scene quickly jumped into action scrambling to get the trapped kids out of the van. kristin thorne joins us with the latest. >> reporter: it happened at this intersection here. basically, this car coming down the road t-boned this church van. six people injured. thankfully none of those injuries is considered serious. i want to show you some exclusive surveillance video we just obtained, which shows this van traveling along shore avenue here and just getting t- boned by this car. police say the driver was speeding, blew through the stop sign then crashed into the van. that driver now is on the run. police are looking for him saying he or she was driving a ford sedan. witnesses say the van flipped over then hit some parked cars. neighbors say they saw the driver get out of his car, look at what happened and simply run

neighbors ran to help the people, including those children children. >> everybody was trying to get the people out kicking the windows out to get everyone out. >> reporter: we're hearing from police that the youngest victim inside that van is only 3 years old. all passengers were transported to jamaica hospital for evaluation. again, they all, thankfully, are expected to be okay. the search continues for that driver. we're live in jamaica, queens this morning. i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 "eyewitness news." a man suspected in two fatal shooting ises has been found dead. the suspected gunman killed three people in a domestic dispute last night. two other people were found dead about a mile away. later on, police say the victims may be related to the suspect's wife. police discovered the suspect's body early this morning with

inflicted gunshot wound. turning now to an "eyewitness news" exclusive. we're learning more about the man who was killed at a construction site here in manhattan. lewis matta moved to the u.s. about a decade ago. he came here to get a job to support his family back home in mexico. on thursday, he was leaving work in greenwich village when a wooden plank fell from a scaffold. it hit and killed him. >> it was really sad. he was my friend, you know? >> violations have been issued to the construction site in the past, including a stop-work order for scaffolding. another stop-work order has been issued following this death. it is a huge relief this morning for the family of a missing 11-year-old girl. she was found last night safe.

. welcome back, everybody. authorities say it could be weeks before we know exactly what caused the superstar prince's death. the autopsy is now completed and the body is back with his family. investigators say there are no signs of trauma or suicide. >> it was a very meticulous exam. it was a complete exam, and so several of the pieces of information that are gathered in that process will be sent to labs for further testing. >> investigators say prince was last seen alive about 8:00 wednesday night but found unresponsive thursday morning inside of an elevator at his studio complex outside of minneapolis. paisley park, as he called it.

a memorial, meantime, outside of that studio continues to grow. you see those purple balloons, of course. in tribute to prince, amc theaters will be showing his 1984 time, the classic, "purple rain" what a great idea. they started the tribute early with one showing last night. the film will be at six other new york and new jersey theaters through thursday. last night in harlem, people continued to pay tribute to prince with a memorial outside of the apollo theater. a spot where fans can continue to sing and dance along to so many of his classic songs. we turn now to the race for president. ahead of the republican national committee says the gop will not "hand the nomination to a candidate who does not win a majority of delegates." ryan prevus says the party will pick its nominee at a contested

my stop & shop. we see video of the earth swallowing up that tanker truck. this is not a sinkhole, believe it or not, that is related to all of the flooding they've had there in recent days. the parking lot is the roof of an underground parking garage. the structure can't support vehicles that weigh more than 4400 pounds. that tanker's weight was just too much. fortunately, no one was hurt. >> this is our bad. this isn't mother nature. >> he shouldn't have been there, wasn't built right. >> exactly.

we're already in the 60s from this spot. we are draped in with clouds and limited visibility with the clouds low to the ground and rain coming down in spots. mainly the action is going to be to the east of us. it looks like it won't take long for the temperatures to make it into the mid to upper 60s, which is where we will end the day today. all in all, i would say you should expect temperatures to be in the mid-60s by the afternoon. this just doesn't get much warmer than that. we return to the 70s by tomorrow, though. 62 degrees in central park. winds will be changing up as everything gets cleared out. until then, temperatures are in the mid-50s for monticello. all right. 61 for brick in tom's river. headlines go like this. this light rain continues and exits to the east. then it becomes breezy with the north wind.

in the 70s. we have a nice recovery into the 70s. i think you'll notice the coolness in the atmosphere. there will be showers moving into your area for northville in the next 20 to 30 minutes. still some showers to go. in queens, all of this is pushing south and east still out onto the fork. this is how the morning goes. is it going to clear out? yes, but is it in time for you to get your games in and can we dry out the surfaces? it depends. early afternoon, we've got some dampness around. the northerly winds do come in quick. overall, the weekend is mild. the showers exit quickly and we get this recovery of very mild air coming in. is it quick enough for mid- morning and mid-day games? i think it's probably a call on how much your fields can

yanks and bronx at 1:05 looks like it is good to go. 70 degrees with the northerly winds coming in. a little windy probably about mid-game. tomorrow it's back to sunny skies and sunny. here say look at the seven-day forecast. temperatures about go back into the 70s. there it is on monday as it turns warmer. wednesday, a mix of sun and clouds. thursday we've got 72 and friday 64. i think a bit of sea sawing between the temperatures, the -- seesawing between the temperatures and the model. wednesday and friday look a little iffy. we could end up on the cool side of things, the warm side of things. we'll have to watch the pattern. all in all, a decent weekend. can't complain too much.

live now from jamaica with more good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, rob and michelle. this is the intersection where it all happened. six people injured during the and two toddlers. this is some exclusive surveillance video we obtained here at "eyewitness news" that shows the church van traveling on shore avenue and getting t- boned by a ford sedan, which blew through a stop sign. this all happened around 11:00 last night. the van, that church van crashed into the driver of the sedan pulled by witnesses got out of his car, looked at what happened and then ran away. of course, the concern for neighbors who heard this all happening is to get the people who were inside that van out. they ran up to it because the van was flipped onto its side by that point. neighbors ran to help. >> she has a baby and she's

individuals involved with this are armed and extremely >> authorities say, there is no killed themselves. charges have been dropped against the man accused of terrorizing drivers in phoenix last year. authorities say they need more time for forensic examinations to drop those charges against leslie merit, jr. for now. merit has been implicated in four shootings along a phoenix freeway during august and september of 2015. the defense attorneys say ballistic tests cast doubt on authorities' claims that merit is responsible. merit is released and allowed to go home under electronic monitoring. prosecutors may refile the same charges. a memorial is growing in delaware for a teen allegedly killed in a school assault. amy francis died after an attack in the bathroom thursday morning. there are few details on her death, but officials say at least two people were involved and that no weapons were used.

looking outside, we can see the empire state building is just fine. one world trade is starting to emerge. temperatures are easy to take. we've got 60s on the map right now for not just central park at 62 degrees. we've also got 60s across the board in parts of jersey getting into the low 60s early on this morning. we had 50s overnight. upper 50s for newburgh. monticello 55. islip's at 61. bridgeport at 62 degrees. on accutrack, you can see the showers that are left behind. these showers are shoving south and east over 287 right now and pushing southeastward. over the boroughs, we have the light, spotty rain showers that look like they are wrapping up for parts of queens and brooklyn. out onto the island, still rain showers especially eastward. we won't be completely done until mid-morning. if you've got early plans, plan

plan would work. >> reporter: sharing the news how 40 people have now tested positive for the zika virus. mayor de blasio announced $21 million over three years to fight zika. >> we do not see a scenario in this city or country where there will be a widespread outbreak, but that does not for a moment stop us from wanting to address even more limited problems. >> reporter: we have a new flier that will help new yorkers determine if testing is needed, which is mainly a concern for pregnant women and their partners who traveled to zika-affected areas. >> reporter: examples of insect repellent were on display. one of the things the $21 million will pay for is a public information program to remind people how to stay safe. tips include remove standing water, apply insect repellent and use window screens. new yorkers say with the good weather here, they are thinking

police search for the drive who're ran from the scene -- driver who ran from the scene. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. the force of the crash caused that van to slam into several parked cars six people in that church van, including several children. this is the exclusive surveillance video that shows the van traveling on shore avenue when it's t-boned by a ford sedan which blew through a stop sign. witnesses say the driver got out, saw what happened and ran away. the driver of the church van was injured as well as two female passengers, a teenager and two 3-year-old boys. neighbors ran to help to pull everyone out of the van, which at that point was lying on its side. >> i seen the neighborhood

the city of newark's tentative deal with car service uber has a hit a little bit of a road block. the port authority has raised concerns about the provision where uber will pay the city $1 million a year for the right to operate at the airport. most of the airport is within newark city limits. the port authority leases the land from the city. the museum of modern art in midtown has received a $100 million donation. music executive david geffen donated the money to expand and renovate that museum. among the changes, three floors of new gallery that will be called the david geffen wing. he is the co-founder of dream works studio. when you can donate $100 million, you've had a pretty decent career. very generous. >> isn't that great? >> yes.

okay. so welcome back, everybody. i did a story this week that was inspiring to me. i thought of you immediately because it's about organ donation. you had mentioned to both rob and i about organ donation and how so many people are not signed up. >> and i always say, if you are going to get, you should be on the registry. if you don't ever want to receive an organ, don't be in the mix. if you want to be saved by someone else's organ, who knows when you'll need it? >> you'll never know. so many people take but they won't give. that makes me mad. >> this particular story, i hope, will inspire people out there because it's about a family who desperately wanted to do the right thing for their niece. the aunt actually said she

tt 7:57 and our top stories. a speeding driver t-boned a church van full of children and ran away. we have exclusive video of that crash. good morning, kristin. >> six people inside of that van, involved in the incident at this intersection were injured. thankfully, everyone is going to be okay. this is the exclusive surveillance video, which we obtained on "eyewitness news" that shows the church van traveling on shore avenue when

which blew through a stop sign. witnesses say the driver of the sedan got out, looked at the accident and then ran away. this all happened around 11:00 last night. the driver of the van was injured as well as two female passengers, a teenager, and two 3-year-old boys. neighbors ran to help to pull everyone out of the van. all of the passengers were taken to jamaica hospital just as a precaution to be checked out. again, they are all going to be fine. the search kins for the driver of that said -- continues for the driver of that sedan. i'm kristin thorn, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> could be a lot worse. critin', what is going on with the weather? >> oh, yeah, showers out there this morning. it's not going to last all day. the rain gives way to sunshine this afternoon. we return our temperatures into the low 70s. so mild overnight certainly. looking to the eastern area where we are socked in with the clouds. brighter skies are awaiting us.
