a driver is on the run after hitting a church van that was full of children. >> people who were at the scene quickly jumped into action scrambling to get the trapped kids out of the van. kristin thorne joins us with the latest. >> reporter: it happened at this intersection here. basically, this car coming down the road t-boned this church van. six people injured. thankfully none of those injuries is considered serious. i want to show you some exclusive surveillance video we just obtained, which shows this van traveling along shore avenue here and just getting t- boned by this car. police say the driver was speeding, blew through the stop sign then crashed into the van. that driver now is on the run. police are looking for him saying he or she was driving a ford sedan. witnesses say the van flipped over then hit some parked cars. neighbors say they saw the driver get out of his car, look at what happened and simply run

neighbors ran to help the people, including those children children. >> everybody was trying to get the people out kicking the windows out to get everyone out. >> reporter: we're hearing from police that the youngest victim inside that van is only 3 years old. all passengers were transported to jamaica hospital for evaluation. again, they all, thankfully, are expected to be okay. the search continues for that driver. we're live in jamaica, queens this morning. i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 "eyewitness news." a man suspected in two fatal shooting ises has been found dead. the suspected gunman killed three people in a domestic dispute last night. two other people were found dead about a mile away. later on, police say the victims may be related to the suspect's wife. police discovered the suspect's body early this morning with

inflicted gunshot wound. turning now to an "eyewitness news" exclusive. we're learning more about the man who was killed at a construction site here in manhattan. lewis matta moved to the u.s. about a decade ago. he came here to get a job to support his family back home in mexico. on thursday, he was leaving work in greenwich village when a wooden plank fell from a scaffold. it hit and killed him. >> it was really sad. he was my friend, you know? >> violations have been issued to the construction site in the past, including a stop-work order for scaffolding. another stop-work order has been issued following this death. it is a huge relief this morning for the family of a missing 11-year-old girl. she was found last night safe.

we're already in the 60s from this spot. we are draped in with clouds and limited visibility with the clouds low to the ground and rain coming down in spots. mainly the action is going to be to the east of us. it looks like it won't take long for the temperatures to make it into the mid to upper 60s, which is where we will end the day today. all in all, i would say you should expect temperatures to be in the mid-60s by the afternoon. this just doesn't get much warmer than that. we return to the 70s by tomorrow, though. 62 degrees in central park. winds will be changing up as everything gets cleared out. until then, temperatures are in the mid-50s for monticello. all right. 61 for brick in tom's river. headlines go like this. this light rain continues and exits to the east. then it becomes breezy with the north wind.

in the 70s. we have a nice recovery into the 70s. i think you'll notice the coolness in the atmosphere. there will be showers moving into your area for northville in the next 20 to 30 minutes. still some showers to go. in queens, all of this is pushing south and east still out onto the fork. this is how the morning goes. is it going to clear out? yes, but is it in time for you to get your games in and can we dry out the surfaces? it depends. early afternoon, we've got some dampness around. the northerly winds do come in quick. overall, the weekend is mild. the showers exit quickly and we get this recovery of very mild air coming in. is it quick enough for mid- morning and mid-day games? i think it's probably a call on how much your fields can

individuals involved with this are armed and extremely >> authorities say, there is no killed themselves. charges have been dropped against the man accused of terrorizing drivers in phoenix last year. authorities say they need more time for forensic examinations to drop those charges against leslie merit, jr. for now. merit has been implicated in four shootings along a phoenix freeway during august and september of 2015. the defense attorneys say ballistic tests cast doubt on authorities' claims that merit is responsible. merit is released and allowed to go home under electronic monitoring. prosecutors may refile the same charges. a memorial is growing in delaware for a teen allegedly killed in a school assault. amy francis died after an attack in the bathroom thursday morning. there are few details on her death, but officials say at least two people were involved and that no weapons were used.

new york city is getting armed and ready to fight the zika virus. it has grown more serious than anyone thought it might money

police search for the drive who're ran from the scene -- driver who ran from the scene. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. the force of the crash caused that van to slam into several parked cars six people in that church van, including several children. this is the exclusive surveillance video that shows the van traveling on shore avenue when it's t-boned by a ford sedan which blew through a stop sign. witnesses say the driver got out, saw what happened and ran away. the driver of the church van was injured as well as two female passengers, a teenager and two 3-year-old boys. neighbors ran to help to pull everyone out of the van, which at that point was lying on its side. >> i seen the neighborhood

the people, the kids out. they were kicking the windows out and really trying to get everything out. >> reporter: all passengers were take tonja make cha -- were taken to jamaica hospital and police continue to search for the driver of that sedan. kristin thorne, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you so much. new a man police say suspected in a pair of deadly shootings in georgia has been found but not alive. the suspected gunman killed three people in a domestic dispute last night. two others were found dead about a mile away. police say some of the victims are related to the suspect's wife. police discovered the suspect's body early this morning with what appeared to be a self- inflicted gunshot wound. also new this morning a new york-bound flight made an emergency landing because of a broken windshield. the american airlines flight left miami last night when the pilot said the windshield was cracked. out of an abundance of caution,

landing at raleigh-durham international airport. 166 passengers and six crew members were on board at the time. everyone is fine. turning now to an "eyewitness news" exclusive. we are learning more about the man who was killed at a construction site here in manhattan. louis matta moved to the u.s. nearly a decade ago. his friend tells us he came here to get a job simply to support his family back home in mexico. on thursday, he was leaving work in greenwich village when a wooden plank fell from a him. >> i got a broken heart because it was really sad. he was my friend, you know? like, it's really sad. >> violations had been issued to the site in the past including a stop-work order. police have made an arrest in the shooting of a 7-year-old

stray bullet in patterson, new jersey. jaden was playing with his siblings at his home in february when shots with are fired on his street. a stray bullet came right through the window and hit him in the shoulder. again, he's 7 years old. after a seven-week investigation, police arrested a 29-year-old named justin pope. he faces charges including attempted murder. now we turn to the race for president. the head of the republican national committee says the gop will now "hand the nomination to a candidate who does not win the majority of delegates." ryan sprevas says if no candidate wins the necessary delegates, the party will pick its nominee come july. the magic number is 1237. donald trump argues he should be the nominee even if he falls short of the 1237 requirement. meantime, candidates are

we turn now to the latest on the sudden death of music legend prince. authorities in minnesota say it could be weeks before we truly know what caused his death. the autopsy has been completed and the body is now with his family.

temperatures the result of the north wind coming in. the showers moving through right along 287 is where we see the most action within the last hour. we continue to see the showers push in. all of that pushes out brooklyn and queens. maybe you are done with the showers by 10:00, 11:00. if you under northwest new jersey, you see things improve rapidly, 9:00, 10:00 a.m. with a little bit of sun peeking through. so the back edge of the system is peeking through. we'll call it nice by this afternoon. as high pressure swings all of that energy out, very mild for tomorrow. all in all, it turns out to be a decent weekend. air quality is good. pollen counts are high with trees being the main concern with the pollen there. tonight we go down to 46 in the

the suburbs could get the upper 30s. it feels cool tomorrow. yes, we're taking a handful of degrees off of the highs for the second half of the weekend, but it flips on monday. turns warmer again. monday is an interesting day. we'll be along a boundary line where we can get very, very warm in the city, but cooler conditions for the on-shore flow. that boundary could produce showers and thunderstorms. that takes us into tuesday. 6567 on wednesday. temperatures are looking like they will be warm on thursday at 72. then friday 64 degrees. i feel like it is a bit of a seesaw with the temperatures going from the mid-60s to the mid-07s. as a confidence in the forecast, especially mid-week, who gets the warmest and who gets the coolest will be something we'll be talking a lot about. the boundary lines this time of year set up. what i mean by that is if you are just east of the line, you are getting the onshore flow. you stay cooler, and if you get

a church van that was carrying children at the time. the car then just ran away. we have exclusive video of the crash this morning as police search for the person behind the wheel. kristin thorne has more on a close call. >> reporter: this is the intersection where this incident happened. six people injured inside that van including that teenager and two toddlers. this is the exclusive surveillance video we obtained here on "eyewitness news" which shows the church van traveling on shore avenue and getting t- boned by a ford sedan which had blown through a stop sign which happened at 11:00 last night. the van then crashed into several parked cars. the driver of the sedan, according to witnesses, got out of his car, saw what happened and ran away. the concern, of course, immediately was for the people inside the van. the force of the crash caused

the city of newark's tentative deal with car service uber has a hit a little bit of a road block. the port authority has raised concerns about the provision where uber will pay the city $1 million a year for the right to operate at the airport. most of the airport is within newark city limits. the port authority leases the land from the city. the museum of modern art in midtown has received a $100 million donation. music executive david geffen donated the money to expand and renovate that museum. among the changes, three floors of new gallery that will be called the david geffen wing. he is the co-founder of dream works studio. when you can donate $100 million, you've had a pretty decent career. very generous. >> isn't that great? >> yes.

okay. so welcome back, everybody. i did a story this week that was inspiring to me. i thought of you immediately because it's about organ donation. you had mentioned to both rob and i about organ donation and how so many people are not signed up. >> and i always say, if you are going to get, you should be on the registry. if you don't ever want to receive an organ, don't be in the mix. if you want to be saved by someone else's organ, who knows when you'll need it? >> you'll never know. so many people take but they won't give. that makes me mad. >> this particular story, i hope, will inspire people out there because it's about a family who desperately wanted to do the right thing for their niece. the aunt actually said she

it turns out that this life- saving choice ended up helping three different people who needed a kidney and six people combined are now connected forever because of this kidney donation chain. all of the patients, of course, hope the experience and stories will i fluent people who are watching. six people all met for the first time who are part of a three kidney donor exchange. it did take a chart to explain it. once you understand, it's nothing short of a selfless aunt dawn baits hoping to save her niece dawn johnson. >> this was the isn't to dogood. >> reporter: she gave up her kidney believing good car that would come back to them. >> tiffany was the recipient of my kidney. >> reporter: doctors matched tiffany's throng kerry's husband who agreed to give his kidney to a stranger. >> i donated my kidney to elaine.

wife for elaine richards. that left elaine's original willing donor, her daughter-in- law catherine with an unmatched kidney. get this. >> elaine's daughter-in-law catherine was able to donate to nicole, which was dawn's original recipient. >> reporter: catherine was a match. that karma her aunt dawn had been waiting for came right back around. >> catherine, i thank you. you totally are a blessing to me. >> reporter: transplant doctors say the concept of giving and matching can bridge a critical gap between supply and demand and organ transplants. >> the donor wait can be upwards of five to seven years. >> reporter: another twist? all of the donors are etiquetters, perhaps offering up the lesson of a lifetime that in giving, there's also receiving. >> i just planted seeds. i just planted seeds. now this is the garden, and it is a beautiful garden.

tt 7:57 and our top stories. a speeding driver t-boned a church van full of children and ran away. we have exclusive video of that crash. good morning, kristin. >> six people inside of that van, involved in the incident at this intersection were injured. thankfully, everyone is going to be okay. this is the exclusive surveillance video, which we obtained on "eyewitness news" that shows the church van traveling on shore avenue when

which blew through a stop sign. witnesses say the driver of the sedan got out, looked at the accident and then ran away. this all happened around 11:00 last night. the driver of the van was injured as well as two female passengers, a teenager, and two 3-year-old boys. neighbors ran to help to pull everyone out of the van. all of the passengers were taken to jamaica hospital just as a precaution to be checked out. again, they are all going to be fine. the search kins for the driver of that said -- continues for the driver of that sedan. i'm kristin thorn, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> could be a lot worse. critin', what is going on with the weather? >> oh, yeah, showers out there this morning. it's not going to last all day. the rain gives way to sunshine this afternoon. we return our temperatures into the low 70s. so mild overnight certainly. looking to the eastern area where we are socked in with the clouds. brighter skies are awaiting us.
