a sex-discrimation lawsuit against a local shipyard is taking a big step foward this morning. b-a-e systems norfolk ship repair to federal court, are asking a judge to grant final approval of a settlement today. if it's approved, the lawsuit will cost the company millions of dollars. 10 on your side's rico bush is live outside the norfolk federal courthouse. rico, walk us through the case. lex, don, a decision today could end a long legal battle for b-a-e systems after nearly 200 women sued the company for sex discrimination. the lawsuit dates back several years. in 20-13, the workers took the shipyard to federal court for pay and

discrimination and harrasment claims. the women alleged widespread sexual harrasment and systematic discrimination by managers and supervisors, who were nearly all men. the company denied any wrong-doing at the time, but agreed to settle the case. under the agreement, b-a-e is expected to pay employees who worked for the company between october 2-thousand-7 and december 20-14 more than three million dollars. in addition to that monetary relief, b-a-e must make changes to its sexual harassment policy and promotion decisions by basing them on job related criteria, such as practical and written tests. 10 on your side will be in court this morning for the decison. follow wavy dot com and wavy news 10 to get the latest updates on the case. live in norfolk, rico bush, 10 on your side. most of the votes are in, and unlike the iowa caucus, there are two clear winners coming out of the new hampshire primary -- republican donald trump

company to move into downtown norfolk, and bring thousands of new jobs with it. the relocation isn't a done deal just yet. a-d-p still needs to make the decision to move, and right now there is no timeline for when that could happen. in the wake of corruption charges against norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot, a city councilman is hoping to figure out what went wrong. andy protogyrou is calling for an audit of city policies and procedures. he wants the city auditor to look over burfoot's indictment and see if any policies need to addressed. he provided a copy of his memo to council at last night's work session furnished to the auditor. it also says, these questions are only raised for you to do your job. and then in turn, to raise other questions, so we can come up with answers ultimately. burfoot faces public corruption and perjury charges dating back to his time on city council. new this morning, the department of justice is threatening legal action

ferguson for what it calls an "unnecessary delay". last night council voted to amend an agreement with the d-o-j over changes to the ferguson police department and municipal courts. the mayor said last night council is not taking anything out of the agreement, but just adding safeguards to it. there were also concerns about the cost of the reforms. :17 - :33 "it's time to stop. just go ahead and sign the decree. you still haven't settle the mike brown settlements. you've got more money to spend. you're paying more lawyers. it's time to stop all this 'ferguson's going under stuff' and get it done. just sign it." council reached an agreement with the d-o-j last month after the department found ferguson police were discriminating against black citizens. if the d-o-j doesn't go along with council's changes, ferguson could face a civil rights lawsuit. the now infamous royal caribbean cruise ship that got tossed around at sea is expected back later tonight. it's scheduled

around 9:00 after it hit a storm off the coast of cape hatteras sunday. that same storm that damaged parts of n-c 12, tossed around the more than two- thousand people onboard the ship. the crew confined passengers to their rooms. the storm produced 30-foot waves. now to new developments with the zika virus and its impact on the upcoming summer games. the u-s olympic committee says athletes and staff worried about the zika virus in brazil should consider not going to the games in rio de janiero in august. the c-d-c moved to its highest alert level over zika. however experts at the national institutes of health says its difficult to give athletes advice about going or not going to the games. they say all they can do is give people the facts and let them decide on their own. it's a different story for athletes in kenya. officials there say they might pull out of this year's games because of the zika virus. the head of kenya's olympic committee said the country would not risk the safety of its athletes if the outbreak reached "epidemic levels".

wouldn't go if athletes did not receive assurances that the virus wouldn't pose a threat. china just reported its first case of the zika virus. health experts say a 34-year-old man contracted the illness after a trip to venezuela. they are not too concerned about the mosquito-borne virus spreading in china because of the lack of mosquito activity and low winter temperatures. the u-s supreme court dealt the obama administration a big blow. it temporarily blocked the president's climate change plan. more than two dozen states filed lawsuits against it. now a federal appeals court will hold a hearing a hearing on the suits in june. the plan puts limits on how much carbon dioxide power plants can emit. republicans have unlawful. it looks more like summer than february in some parts of the country. recording-breaking heat in seattle brought people outside in shorts and t-shirts yesterday. it southern cailfornia. pasadena saw temperatures topping

a death investigation in southampton county. deputies identified the bodies found inside a home outside courtland. they say they are 64-year-old donald raiford and 59-year-old vanessa raiford. the medical examiner has not released the cause of death, but deputies were called to the home because of a gunshot victim. investigators still say they have no suspects in this case. major road closed. crews are still working to get route 12 on the outer banks re-opened. find out when they hope to have it back open. plus, they are a dieters nightmare or dream, depending on how you look at it. we'll show you the milkshakes that have people lining up down the block. and this silver dollar is worth a lot more than its face value.

later this morning, a norfolk federal judge is expected to decide on a settlement against a norfolk shipyard. the case is against b-a-e norfolk systems ship repair. nearly 200 women sued for sex discrimination. it could carry big price tag for the shipyard, which has contracts with navy. rico bush is live outside the federal courthouse in norfolk with more on the class-action lawsuit. rico. don, lex, if the judge approves the settlement, it means b-a-e will avoid a trial that could have brought attention to widespread allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination that dated back for years. in 20-13, nearly 2-hundred women filed a class-action lawsuit against the shipyard, allegeding they suffered pay and promotion discrimination and experienced sexual

want parents to be heard and we want the administration to open the door for parents to speak out and to be heard about this." a committee of teachers, parents, students and school board members are working on recommendations. so far, they haven't made any formal submissions. any changes the school board makes, will go into effect during the next school year. virginia beach school board members are also thinking about changing the calendar. they passed a motion yesterday to remove some teaching days from the school year. the official vote to change the calendar is scheduled for next week. if the vote does go through -- students will spend one or two fewer days in class, and teachers may get more time for professional development. this morning newport news police are investigating a late night robbery at a cell phone store. officers tell us someone with a weapon walked into the a-t-&-t store on jefferson avenue across from patrick henry mall. police say several employees were inside

we have a school delay just into our newsroom. accomack county schools on the eastern shore, are on a two hour delay. in other news, another big name store says it's closing its doors in our area. sears announced it's closing a k-mart in virginia beach this spring. the retailer says slow holiday sales forced them to speed up the closings. our n-b-c affiliate in roanoke says: it spoke to a company representative. that person says a k-mart in virginia beach will be shutting down in april. in 2004, k-mart

a father in new york was very honest in a letter to his daughter's teachers. the pair had seen a bruce springsteen and the e street band concert that went late into the night. " unfortunately, i didn't share that plan with my wife, and this is why there's a very good chance i could be divorced when she gets out of school today," in the note, he said taking his 12-year-old daughter to the concert was more educational than anything else.
