short break. right now at 6:00, we're keeping you updated on breaking overnight news out of norfolk that we've been following since we came on at 4:30. a woman has died and several others hurt in a house fire in ocean view. someone who lives near the home posted this video to our facebook page. investigators tell 10 on your side, an older woman did not survive. crews say they tried to rescue her from a second floor room. three other people were hurt, including two children. they're in the hospital this morning. investigators have not told us how they are doing. and paramedics treated a fourth

minor burn. a man and woman got out from the first floor. a woman and a child also got out from the second floor, according to investigators. it started around 2:00 this morning on kingston avenue. that's near cape view avenue, just one block behind west ocean view avenue. now here is a still picture of the scene from the norfolk fire department. you can see just how intense the flames got. a spokesman told us more than 30 firefighters responded to the scene. dominion virginia power crews responded because of a downed power line from the fire. investigators have not said how that fire started. 10 on your side's rico bush and his photojournalist are just a few minutes away. we'll get a live report from them when they arrive at the scene. good friday morning. i'm katie collett. and i'm don roberts. everyone is looking forward to the weekend.

this morning, the tragedy is really starting to sink in -- in the wake of a deadly tornado in waverly. but people are stepping in to help the storm victims. we've seen an outpouring of support for people who lost their homes in the storm. these images from chopper 10 really show the destruction. even though it'll take some time before everything is back to normal for the victims, clean-up is well underway - so many helping hands are already working hard to help the community move forward in this dark time. yesterday, local organizations and leaders collected donations for the storm victims. this

a machette. texas police released brand new video of a deadly confrontation between officers and a man with a machete! (don't air gunshot nats) it happened tuesday at a bus terminal in southeast houston. you can see the suspect in a ballcap and blue jacket, holding the weapon. they say he got angry when he missed his bus. officers say they repeatedly ordered him to put down the machete. the man became aggressive, and officers tried to calm him down. on the tape, you can see the suspect disappear behind several cars just before police fire their guns. investigators have not released the man's name. a mother accused of murdering her son will go on trial this september. this is the first time we're seeing video of

troopers say she left the body of her son, quincy davis, in the trunk of her vehicle last year. slaton heard her charges in hampton court yesterday. investigators indicted her earlier this month. a newport news police officer faces charges and is on administrative leave this morning. laila underwood is charged with felony destruction of property and misdemeanor assault on a family member. police say her husband reported she assaulted him, broke his car windows, and damaged his property during a fight tuesday night. officer underwood says her husband assaulted and threatened her. kevin underwood is charged with misdeanor assault. new this morning, hampton police say a missing teenager is safe. 17-year-old jarrett ellis has been missing since last friday. investigators sent us a tweet late last night, saying he was back with his family. developing news out of portsmouth city council. it fined a second councilman more than $1-thousand dollars, claiming he

ordinance. danny meeks says he got the notice this week because of an article in the virginian-pilot. in it, he discusses garbage disposal plans. mayor kenny wright says that was discussed in a closed session, meaning meeks should not have said anything to the media. meeks says that's not true. 10:40:59 "they said i took the information then when really i already had the information but i didnt have it timestamped and long or any trail because i had it before the town hall meeting." 10:41:15 meeks says he and his attorney will be discussing a plan of action. mayor wright did not return our calls. meeks is not the first councilman to fall victim to this recently established code of silence. earlier this year, city council also fined councilman bill moody for a facebook post -- in which he allegedly private city business.

11 this morning. new this morning, wal-mart faces a lawsuit over its "great value" brand grated parmesan cheese. a man filed the suit claiming he spent more money for the "100 percent grated parmesan cheese" because he believed it was 100 percent pure. according to the complaint, the product contains seven to 10 percent of cellulose, which is a filler derived from wood pulp. the man accused walmart of deceptive business practices. new this morning, the centers for disease control and prevention says this year's flu vaccine is working pretty well. health officials say the vaccine cuts your chances of getting the flu by almost 60- percent. that makes it one of the most effective flu vaccines in recent years. last year's flu shot was only about 20 percent effective. the flu is still deadly, and the c-d-c says 13 children have died from the flu this season. deaths for adults are not tracked. the c-d-c also

shooter himself is also dead. this morning, 5 people are in critical condition. it happened the city of hesston, which is about 20 miles north of wichita. investigators say there were four separate crime scenes. overnight, police were involved with a stand-off with the shooter's roommate, who refused to come out. the county sheriff says his deputies ran into the business and saved many lives. officials say the gunman worked at excel industries plant, a company that makes lawn care products and riding lawn-mowers. it was a night of fireworks at the gop debate in houston. the five republicans who want to be the next president squared off in a heated discussion. marco rubio threw the first punch, challenging front-runner donald trump on immigration. ted cruz came out swinging as well. rubio and cruz are battling it out for second place. and it didn't take long for trump to fire back at his opponents. s/ sen. marco rubio / (r) who lifted this into the campaign that you

we're following breaking news out of york county. bruton high school is closed today because of a power outage. this includes all students and teachers. the cost of parking permits for some wokers at the virginia beach oceanfront has gone up. neighbors say nearly 1-thousand people need parking spaces during the summer. they say that can be quite a headache if you live nearby. the city decided to raise the cost of permits in order to keep commuters accountable, but neighbors are worried that may not do enough. leaders are examining all options with a long term plan on fixing the parking problems. also in virginia beach, police are scratching their heads after a sailboat sank at a city boat ramp near the lesner bridge. police think a group of teenagers intentionally damaged it earlier this month. witnesses say they saw
