new this morning, more flooding at the jersey shore. this water forced part of the pike to shut down. no flooding threat away from the shore, though. here's a live look at center city. we won't get out of the 60s today and we could see a stray shower. good morning, everybody. welcome to nbc "nbc10 news today." i am ted greenberg. now 7:00 on your sunday morning. thank you so much for being with us. first alert michelle grossman is in the first weather center. the winds are continuing to keep all that water in the back bays of the shore and that's why we have the threat again of flooding. >> you are right. day four and we are going to see the threat especially later this afternoon, right around high tide, 2:00, and threats for beach erosion and property

damage and flooding. we are waking up to a gray day once again, and mainly cloudy, and we will see peeks of sunshine but gray throughout the day. a wind 83 day, and we have the coastal flooding. and that's in the dark green until 6:00 and the main concern is around 2:00 with the afternoon high tide. winds are whipping around 17 miles per hour in philadelphia, and 22 in atlantic city, and gusting higher than that, though, we are seeing winds gusting into the 30s, 32 miles per hour in atlantic city, and we could see winds gusting at 40 miles per hour at times. it's pushing the water especially around high tide time. 50 in lancaster, and 56 in philadelphia, and 57 in atlantic city. it's a cool start in many spots and going to be a cool finish once again, right around 63 degrees. we'll talk more about today's weather and improving conditions

during your workweek, that's all coming up. check out the water that collected here at albany avenue overnight. this high water is near the bay flooding also closed the westbound horse pike for a time. our cameras captured flooded streets here along siri avenue. as michelle mentioned, coastal flood warning remains at the shore most of today and people there coping with the damage that has been done over the past few days, and monique braxton is live in the digital center. >> people we talked to said they are most concerned about the high tide, and there was one overnight and another expected this afternoon. if you are just waking up, check out the video of a house that collapsed late friday night. a high tide lifted it right off its foundation, and we found the

home floating in the grassy sound channel yesterday morning. fortunately nobody was hurt. one neighbor said debris from that house hit the plumbing her home, and inside it was dry but the homeowner anticipates more water. >> i am fourth generation down here so i'm used to this. it's kind of -- you see, i don't have rugs, i roll them up so they don't get wet every year. >> neighbors planning to prepare a dock they built together. as water pushed through yesterday some of the boards started coming up, and this dock was put in after the original one washed away during hurricane sandy. a coastal flood warning around the shore until 6:00 tonight. that coastal flood warning and a limited state of emergency remain in effect for southern

delaware. sussex has spotty power outaged and tidal flooding is the most persistent issue there. the sprint cup race is still scheduled for this afternoon. crews worked to dry the track and the drivers had a shortened practice session to get ready for the big event today. towns along the east coast are dealing with the impact of this week's weather. dangerous conditions for people near malard creek in charlotte, and the heavy rainfall knocked down trees and power to thousands of people. to south carolina, a historic rain event this weekend. heavy rain is causing street flooding and damaging roadways and sidewalks. this road in darling ton was destroyed by all the water and

welcome back on this sunday morning. i am meteorologist, michelle grossman. we still have a coastal flood warning in effect until 6:00, so coastal flooding still a concern. we were looking at lots of clouds in the poconos and lots of clouds wherever you are this morning, and we are looking at temperatures milder compared to this time yesterday, not much milder, but still a few degrees warmer than yesterday. three degrees warmer in mt. pocono right now, and six degrees warmer in wilmington. still cool for this time of year, 63 later this afternoon and we are cold in some spots this morning. 44 in mt. pocono, and lancaster, 56. 58 degrees in dover, and 57 in atlantic city. temperatures not going very far.

later this afternoon, well below normal for this time of year. 71 in normal for this time of year. it will be cool and windy once again. and up to 32 miles per hour in atlantic city. gusty winds stayed at the northeasterly flow. flooding a concern once again, especially around 2:00 later in the afternoon with the high tide along the coast. nothing showing up on radar, all that moisture down to the south. that being said, we could see drizzle and a stray shower throughout the day, but for the most part, we are going to keep it dry and cloudy. by 8:00, just 55 degrees. lunchtime, looking at 59. still below 60 at this point, and 4:00 mostly cloudy and 61. cool and windy today. we are going to start to warm up during the workweek, and we'll talk more about that coming up.

police in gloucester county are not releasing the identities of a husband and wife killed in an apparent murder/suicide. police were called yesterday morning and they say a 67-year-old man called 911 to report a shooting. when police arrived the man and his 72-year-old wife, 72-year-old wife were rushed to two hospitals where they were pronounced dead. surveillance video led police to a teenage suspect now charged in a crime spree near drexel university. here is video from a market and you can see the 14-year-old trying to cover his face to go to the atm and he is using a stolen card to withdrawal money, and that belongs to a student robbed at gunpoint. >> i always get a few of them every term, but this was like a

few nights in a row we were getting them and i was like, man, something is really going on. >> i heard about it, and i got alerts on my phone, it was where the armed robberies were happening. up next, new information about the deadly shooting at an oregon community college. what we are learning about the gunman and his victims.

looking very rough this morning in the ocean. we are expecting a fourth straight day of coastal flooding at the shore today and the delaware beaches, coastal flood warning in effect and that flooding expected to happen at high tide this afternoon. this morning we are learning more about the deadly college shooting in or and the sheriff says the gunman that killed nine people killed himself as officers arrived. a timeline of the shooting shows police arrived at the scene six minutes after the first 911 call and the officers exchanged gunfire with christopher harper mercer two minutes later, and the gunman left behind two pages of notes for police. >> please know that we consider your loved ones to be our heroes. they will never be forgotten. >> the family of the gunman released a statement saying they are shocked and deeply saddened by the murders and police so far

have not talked about a motive. we know the legendary sprint cup driver tony elliott was one of four people killed in a small plane crash on friday in south carolina. he and three others were headed to south carolina for yesterday's notre dame football game. the plane took off about noon and three hours later witnesses report seeing a plane spiraling towards the ground and the plane was recovered near the border, and a former state champion football coach was piloting the plane along with his son, and an investigation by the faa is continuing today. and then trying to control the flow of refugees across the borders. the hungarian minister said europe could be destabilized for

a long time. this is the latest group to survive the journey from turkey to the islands of greece. dozens of refugees, most of them from syria, arrived in two small boats friday night. volunteers helped passengered to shore and tended to the injured and sick. earlier in the day the coast guard rescued dozens of migrants at sea, including a disabled woman. and then hitting an area of syria where volunteers were rescuing victims from a previous strike. the u.s. and its allies are accusing russia of attacking the syrian opposition and civilians instead of fighting isis militants. investigators are pointing to a gas stove as the cause of an explosion at a brooklyn apartment building that killed a woman yesterday. they said a high-end stove was being disconnected from a gas line when the explosion happened. the explosion tore through the

active rain, and joaquin still a big storm, and philadelphia right now, 56 and cloudy skies and winds out of the northeast at 17 miles per hour, and we're looking at the coastal flood warning still in effect until 6:00, and that's in the dark green along the coast of new jersey, and delaware, that's with high tide this afternoon depending where you are along the beaches. and then an advisory through midnight tonight and we are looking in low laying areas. wet roadways, a damp day once again, but we are looking at better weather later on today and also on monday and especially on tuesday and wednesday. we are dry on radar. that's the good news. no active rain falling and we are looking at cloud cover and gray skies and windy conditions but not seeing rain falling. there is the flow pushing the

water onshore and it's going to continue to do that. better on tuesday, so winds right now around 17 miles per hour in philadelphia, and 22 miles per hour in atlantic city, and we could see winds gusting at 40 miles per hour later on this afternoon, even at 35 miles per hour, and up to 30 miles per hour in wilmington. we heard these winds howling for the last 48 hours and we are going to continue to hear them howling over the next 24 hours. 51 in pottstown, and chilly 44 in mt. pocono. hurricane joaquin having its eye on bermuda, so a hurricane warning in bermuda right now. winds and heavy rains, and you know the deal. windy and cool today, 61 to 64. mostly cloudy skies and mainly cloudy, and a few peeks of sunshine but clouds will be the rule throughout the afternoon. and tuesday, we're looking

it's just about 7:30 on this sunday morning. meteorologist, michelle grossman, is in the first alert weather center. folks from the shore cannot catch a break from the flooding. >> yeah, day four and we have a concern around high tide at 2:00 p.m., and flooding concerns do continue, road flooding and beach erosion and property damage is what we are looking at. clouds across the area, and mainly cloudy today and it will be a windy day once again, and we are looking at the concern for coastal flooding, and that is in effect until 6:00 tonight. and delaware under that concern, and mainly with the high tide later this afternoon. and then winds helping the flooding concerns, 17 in philadelphia, and up to 10 miles per hour in lancaster, but gusting higher than that. we are seeing winds in atlantic city at 35 miles per hour, and still 30-mile-per-hour gusts in

yesterday. 56 right now in philadelphia, and winds out of the northeast at 17 miles per hour. that's the big weather story today, the winds still in place. the winds causing a problem with coastal flooding. we have a coastal flood warning in the dark green along the coast of new jersey and delaware until 6:00 tonight, and high tide happens around 2:00, so that's the time to watch and a coastal flood advisory in the light green until midnight. we should see roadway flooding as well. a live look at cape may. we are seeing a gray day today, mostly cloudy and clouds being the rule for mainly everybody. mainly dry but we could see a stray shower or drizzle in some spots. on radar we are dry, and we are waking up to dry conditions and it's damp and dreary from what we have seen over the last couple days. we are going to see cool air throughout the day and going to be a cool day, only in the low 60s by later this afternoon.

we are seeing winds at 17 miles per hour in philadelphia, and 15 miles per hour in millville, and up to 4 miles per hour in allentown. gusting higher than that, up to 35 miles per hour in atlantic city, and gusting towards 40 miles per hour at times, and still hearing the winds howling throughout the day. temperatures are chilly in some spots. 44 in mt. pocono. and 56 in millville. hurricane joaquin, a category 3 storm setting its sights on bermuda, and winds at 121 miles per hour. back home, cool and 61 to 64, and 71 is normal this time of year and we are going to be well below that, and we are going to creep back in the 70s over the next several days, not monday or tuesday, but back in the 70s by wednesday. winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour at times. by monday, partly sunny and

breezy, and 66, below normal for this time of year. tuesday, a beautiful day. nice day and lots of sunshine. we lose the wind and temperatures around normal, 72. by wednesday, sunny skies, nice and 74. thursday, dropping back near to 70, and friday, increasing clouds throughout the day, and starting with sunshine and ending with clouds, and saturday, partly sunny and maybe a shower or two and 69. a washington, d.c. woman says she is lucky to be alive after a tree fell on to her car while driving. the woman said she was driving home on thursday when the tree started falling and said she was forced to make a split-second decision as to hit the brakes or gas. she chose to accelerate causing the tree to crash into the back of her car and the tree brought down live power lines. >> as soon as ems showed up they were clearing the area and they advised me and other spectators to clear out because the wires were live.

it happened very quickly. >> the woman was not injured but her car is now a total loss. next, the eagles take on washington today and have a chance to even their record. hear from the players and the coach about the match-up when we come back. talking gun control on the stump.

frontrunner, donald trump, addressed gun control to a standing-room only crowd in tennessee yesterday. he spoke about enforcing existing laws and fixing the mental health system before making a statement on the recent mass shooting at the college in oregon. >> by the way, it was a gun-free zone. i will tell you, if you had a couple of the teachers or somebody with guns in that room you would have been a hell of a lot better off. >> he spoke on his personal gun ownership. one of trump's republican rivals took aim at him, carly fiorina spoke. >> she was a widow that lived in atlantic city, new jersey, and her house was taken away from

her by a combination of trump casinos and the local government, and this is an abuse of power. routine. that's what a clearly frustrated president obama called mass shootings in america following the deadly gunfire at a community college in oregon. it's the top issue on this morning's edition of "meet the press," and joining us now for a preview is moderator of nbc's "meet the press," chuck todd. thank you so much for being with us. >> good morning, ted. >> president obama promised to politicize the gun violence, and he talked about this at length. is there any chance we will finally see movement on this issue in washington, though? >> i highly doubt it. we will see. the last time the president promised to use the bully bull pit and promised to use his presidency to push the issue, it

was right after sandy hook and it generated a bill that got a vote and the bill did fail, and i think the best he can hope for if he wants to push this issue, is to force it on the campaign show. and the republican response to this is very similar, every candidate running for president had almost an identical response, it was hard to tell the difference from one candidate from the other. i had a long sit-down with donald trump and we began with the gun issue and he pivoted to mental health, and hillary clinton is saying time to take on the nra. i think we are at an intractable point. if the president wants to force a debate on the issue, he will have to use the rest of his 15 months to use the bully bull pit. the russians are launching air strikes in syria. are they undermining the u.s. effort to destroy isis?

>> look, it's clear that they are. especially -- the u.s. position essentially, you can't fully deal with isis until assad is out of power, and if russia is in there defending assad, the argument is you may never fully get rid of isis if we are stuck with keeping assad there, which is clearly where things may move towards whether we like it or not because of russia getting involved. and it's interesting to watch on the campaign trail and to preview some of the rest of my interview with donald trump, and trump's position on this is so different than any other candidate. he welcomes putin into syria, and wait until you hear what he has to say about saddam hussein and gadhafi and assad. >> we'll be watching. chuck todd, thank you so much for being with us this morning. >> you got it. >> as chuck mentioned, he will
