lancaster, pottstown is 47 degrees, it's 54 in trenton and 53 in wilmington. chillier in south philadelphia. 51 degrees, northeast philadelphia and roxborough are at 54. 5 sticks in northeast philadelphia. a clear view from the comcast center. partly sunny and breezy with winds kicking in. we'll see winds out of the west-northwest at 12 miles an hour with some higher gusts during the day today. the clouds will be blowing through without any rainfall today. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> we're in bucks county watching for this building fire tying things up on county line road. so you can see in between the two points that county line road is closed. right in here, the best bet, get on a highway you can, the p.a. turnpike here, you can see all

lanes moving or everything moving along fine in the green so good news there to avoid lane restrictions. on the schuylkill expressway, no problems, that drive time hasn't budged. 13 minutes eastbound into the center city area. average speeds of 60 miles per hour there. no problems yet. moving into delaware watch for construction and ramp closurclo. closed for construction. 95 northbound ramp to 896 northbound. 6:02. more on this developing story. this morning a family and entire community for that matter, have a lot of questions about the death of this 3-year-old boy who was found dead in the woods in camden county yesterday. matt delucia is live for us in our digital operation center. the mystery surrounding brendan's death is troubling people. neighbors say they are doing the best they can to help.

>> they are. since word began spreading of the boy's disappearance people started helping giving and lending a hand, first with the search, sadly to memorialize the 3-year-old boy. this is what it looked like at a candlelight vigil last night. at the spot where brendan creato went rch missing. police say he was dropped off at his father's apartment on cooper's street monday night by his grandparents. his father reported him missing and his body was found three hours later. the father has been questioned by police, neighbors tell us they are supporting the family arena way they can. >> my kids were texting from high school, and that one of their friend's sons was missing and everyone needed to start looking. >> he was part of a family, he was part of many people's families like he grew up here. >> here's another way people are helping. go fund me has been a source to raise money for brendan's

funeral. i checked, more than $5,000 has been raised in the course of about 15 hours. matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> decision 2016 now. after two republican debates the democratic candidates for president took their turn on the stage for the first time in the 2016 campaign. the five candidates debated in front of an audience in las vegas. social media analyst net base reports this morning that bernie sanders got more hits online than any other candidate. he also had the highest positive reaction during the debate followed by martin o'malley. it says clinton gained the most support, she responded to charges she changes her positions on issues like the keystone pipeline. >> the american people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn e-mails. >> me too. >> i think we need someone that

has the best in ethical standards as our next president. >> secretary clinton, you want to respond? >> no. >> in the next half hour, nbc 10's monique braxton will have more on the debate. she is live in the studio with a preview. >> ahead at 6:30 i'll show you how the candidates faced off, over the issue of gun control. you'll see that exchange when i join you in 30 minutes. >> 6:05. the philadelphia police accident honoring 80 officers during a merit commendation ceremony. the department says the officers being honored today have performed highly intelligent and valuable acts of police service. the philadelphia teenager who left the scene after running over a student will spend at least 11 1/2 months in prison. roberts was sentenced up to 23 months in prison plus five years probation. he only had his learners permit.

hall was riding her bike when she rode through a stop sign and roberts car hit her. she is still recovering at a local rehab facility. roberts surrendered about a week after the accident. his parents called authorities to say their son was the one driving. >> the delaware supreme court says it will not overturn builty pleas of drug defendants because of evidence tampering at a lab. public defenders say they should be tossed. a judge noted that problems a it the lab did not include planting evidence and season none of the defendants involved argue that he or she did not possess illegal drugs. the defense is to continue its case against the contractor involved in the deadly building collapse in 2013. gristen campbell is charged with murder for the collapse along

market street that killed six people. an expert said campbell was out of the loop about demolition next to the salvation army thrift store. a temple university processor fess the architect called all of the shots including using heavy machinery. prosecutors say he was aware of the hazards. heavy machine operator already pleaded guilty manslaughter. >> a man will be held for raping a woman over the sum. james harris appeared in court four preliminary hearing. his victim, jasmine wright, was on the phone with her mother when harris allegedly attacked her in her apartment in july. prosecutors say he may have had keys to her apartment because of his time there working, and had been lurking in her apartment for 30 minutes before grabbing her after she walked through the

door. >> from our delaware bureau now, dover's legislative hall is expected to reopen to employees today one week after fire caused extensive damage to starts of the building. a state official says cleanup is almost complete but some areas need new carpet, furniture. the fire started when an exhaust pipe for a backup generator was tested. eight minutes after 6:00. we're getting a cool start this morning and a dry one too. a cool breeze coming in from the west that is dry air pushing into the area. it will blow some clouds through the region but no sign of the intermittent showers we had yesterday. over the weekend, gets colder. after we get rain on friday. in the clear for doylestown, 50 degrees. 57 in philadelphia and millville is 51 degrees. still falling at this hour. clear and no sunshine yet, an

hour away from sunrise. so looks like a nice fall day today. after we had a few scattered showers yesterday. 9 miles an hour, enough to bring the dry air in. the radar, the showers are right along the pennsylvania/new york border and not coming into our area. the temperatures coming up. only in the low 60s for camelback. breezy at times, 67 the high for sauterton and along the coast ventnor city, up to 70 also for millville and milford and plenty of sunshine with a few scattered clouds for malvern, philadelphia all in the upper 60s this afternoon. there is cooler weather ahess. >> thanks, bill. 6:09. a lot of folks heading out on the roads shortly.

>> that's right. we're approaching the -- that magical time of the morning when roads -- don't know how magical it is. other people up for the mass transit. we're going to have problems there too. let's check with jessica. >> around the 6:15 mark is where you see delays out of nowhere like that. and we'll check it out. i wanted to touch on mass transit. so far we're not dealing with a lot of problems. for new jersey transit we're dealing with 30 minute delays due to amtrak signal problems in philadelphia. plan accordingly. this is what we're talking about, we see delays. no problems. you can see almost at a standstill, in the yellow for our drive time. 17 minutes from woodhaven to the vine street expressway and watch for ongoing construction over the memorial bridge, route 9 and new castle avenue.

the left lane is closed heading into new jersey. lauren. thanks so much. times are changing for the nation and princeton university is following suit. for the first time in the university's 269-year history, the kids have access to something they never have before. and family fun gets a father in trouble with kids, this stems from a riding mower and after school pickup.

breaking news out of philadelphia. investigators are along the 4300 block of bermuda street where several vehicles were hit by gunfire around 3:00 a.m. no one -- at least one home was

also hit in that area. no one was injured. police have not made arrests. a north philadelphia community is in mourning this morning. this was the scene near the corner of tenth and thompson streets last night where family members and friends gathered to remember 14-year-old who was shot to death. this morning we're still waiting for police to release the teen's name. officials say he was shot in the head on monday night and died from his injuries yesterday. no arrests have been made in that case and the investigation is ongoing. in the wake of several deadly school shootings around the nation, princeton university's public safety officers will soon get rifles to use during any active shooter event. right now officers do not carry guns while on duty. the school officials confirmed on tuesday they have changed their policy to allow the weapons in the case of campus emergencies. >> from our delaware bureau, listen up if you are looking for

work. a job fair today at the christiana mall. two senators and one congressman are hosting this event to hire workers for the holiday season. store managers will be interviewing people from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the king of prussia mall also getting ready for the holiday shopping season. can you believe we're talking about holiday shopping. well, might as well get ready. the mall wants to hire between 1,500 and 2,000 workers to help between thanksgiving and new year's. mall officials are hiring early to get people trained and ready. in addition to the holiday help, prime mark is hiring for its new king of prussia store. that clothing store will occupy 100,000 square feet. this story has a lot of people talking. people on periscope talking. there is a dad in montgomery county facing back lash after picking up his kids from school on his lawn mower. >> the lawn mower is the key.

school officials say this was unsafe. the dad disagrees. this is the video causing a stir. christopher headed off to pick up his kids. the family says several parents thought this homemade hay ride of sorts was a nice touch. school officials did not see it that way. >> let my husband know that they wanted him to stick to traditional methods of pickup in car line. >> the malloys say they will abide by the school's wishes but they are not ready to give up on mower rides in the future. hopefully you won't encounter lawn equipment on the way to work. there is an issue in bucks county. >> jessica has been keeping an eye on that. >> we have road closures because of this building fire out on county line road. closed between james way and second street.

that fire is under control. it's a closure around the area. it's not going to get worse. your best bet for an alternate byeberry road, you can see the closures between james way and 232. on mass transit, you are just tuning in no problems but we are seeing up to 30-minute delays for new jersey transit atlantic city rail line due to signal problems out of philadelphia. 422, a little jump in this drive time here. right around trooper road eastbound, where there is a camera. but headed to the schuylkill is where you see most of that jam. heading out the door we'll give you a heads up. the flyers playing the blackhawks. dooring open around 7:00 p.m.

nine minutes after 6:00. less than an hour before sun rise, twilight now, the skies are starting to brighten a bit. you see some of the scattered clouds we have this morning. nothing falling from the clouds, just the temperatures that are coming down. it's 5 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. 57 in philadelphia. with mostly sunny skies to start with. we will see the temperatures climb, we'll be in the 60s this afternoon. but we'll get more clouds blowing through the area during the day. the wind is fairly light right now. it's 9 miles an hour in philadelphia. a 3-mile-an-hour breeze for allentown and mount holly. the winds stronger during the later morning hours. that's going to blow some clouds through the area. this cloud cover, though, not going to produce showers, just the opposite of what we saw yesterday. the showers are going to stay to the north and west. so we will see sunshine, partly sunny, breezy and cooler day

overall. 76 yesterday afternoon. most of the area will top out in the 60s, near 70 degrees today. tomorrow, cooler to start with. our skies will be clear overnight and the wind dies down that will allow the temperatures to drop to 46 degrees. 67 thursday afternoon. that's right on target for the middle of october. then it turns cooler on friday. here comes clouds and a chance of showers, daytime rainfall should be light. high of 63, then a breezy wind will be following the winds picking up saturday, that will keep us in the 50s on saturday and bring even colder weather in starting sunday morning down to 37, 55 the high on sunday afternoon. then colder monday morning down to 33 degrees. this deadly amtrak derailment changed the lives of hundreds of people. this morning we have new information about a decision to bring dozens of lawsuits filed by victims and their families together. a hug lands a 12-year-old

boy in court. why a woman sued her own nephew and what a jury has to say about that case.

approaching before the weekend. after that a big cooldown on the way. good morning. thanks for joining us for "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. >> i'm lauren mayk. let's get to meteorologist bill henley this morning with his first alert forecast. >> good morning. a nice breeze blowing and it's allowing temperatures to drop. that's dry cooler air coming in. it's a 7-mile-an-hour breeze in wilmington reaching the shore. also at 7 miles an hour. the temperatures, 40s and 50s now, cooler than yesterday. 48 in reading, lancaster in the upper 40s, millville is running 11 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time at 51 degrees. but we're getting closer to sun rise and we'll see sunshine with scattered clouds at times blowing through the area. it will stay dry. and a nice warm-up too. typical for this time of year. 56 at 8:00, by 11:00 this morning, middle 60s and then upper 60s with a little bit more wind this afternoon, westerly at 12 miles an hour with stronger gusts.

we'll go through the day, hour by hour with future cast when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> we're watching out for detours in bucks county surrounding this building fire, closing a portion of county line road that's between james way and second street pike which is 232. the best bet for alternate now, you can see the p.a. turnpike moving alongjvr in between tho points, that's a good idea if you want to take a highway. fake byeberry road under the entire scene and you can see both areas are in the green. so you're good to go. for the vine street expressway all lanes open now. right around eighth street so headed west toward the schuylkill no problems. we do have closures still on the vine street expressway east and westbound closed by 11:00 p.m. tonight until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. and that will be the last -- should be one of the last days for that construction. so a heads up if you're heading out the door then. mass transit, we're dealing with

small delays in new jersey transit. 30 minute delays due to amtrak signal problems out of philadelphia. >> was it an accident or something else? this morning police continue to investigate the death of a 3-year-old boy in camden county. considered suspicious. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operational center. last half hour you mentioned some are trying to help. >> that's right. friends and strangers have been donating money through funding websites. go fund me raised more than $5,000 for brendan's memorial service. still, plenty of unanswered questions. right now this death remains a mystery. brendan's body was found yesterday morning not long after his father reported him missing. police questioned the father but not named a suspect or determined whether this is a case of foul play. last night hundreds gathered in

the neighborhood where the boy was found. canine unit found him off south park drive less than a mile from his home. many in the neighborhood came out to support his family. >> didn't do this. we know he didn't. he loved his baby. >> devastating. to hear something like that. closer it gets to home really affects you. >> the mother of brendan say they do not have answers right now. she released a statement thanking the community reads in part we are heartbroken by the loss of our beautiful boy brendan creato. we thank the community. we appreciate your efforts and kind words. an autopsy has been performed but no word on the findings. of course we'll let you know as the investigation unfolds. i'm matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." today, philadelphia's mayor says he is making what he calls a major public safety

announcement, holding a news conference in city hall. his office is tight-lipped what this is but nbc 10 will be there. count on us through the nbc 10 app. 6:34. decision 2016, we're getting new analysis this morning about last night's first democratic debate. the social media reports that bernie sanders got more hits on line than any other candidate. one reason for the buzz may be the fact he defended his rival hillary clinton about her e-mail scandal. that was one of the moments that stoot out. monique braxton with more. >> well, the republicans have squared off twice and last night it was the democrats turn. they are setting a laufs casino. the five major tracks squared off for two hours. hillary clinton was center stage. snr bernie sanders drew cheers

when he told clinton americans are sick and tired about hearing about her e-mails. she agreed and the pair shook hands. those watching also saw the candidates, they disagreed with clinton's call for a no-fly zone over syria but no mincing of words on gun policies. >> secretary clinton tough enough on guns? >> not at all. we lose 90 people a day from gun violence. this has gone on too long and it's time the entire country stood up against the nra. >> we can raise our voice but i come from a rural state and the views on gun control in rule states are different than in urban states whether we like it or not. >> they will come together again as far as off in the next scheduled debate. live in the studio, monique braxton, "nbc 10 news."

>> philadelphia police are hoping tips from the public will help track down the murderer of a young father. tony harris worked out of his house as an electronics repair man. police say three armed suspects possibly teens, stormed in through his unlocked front door and shot him in the head monday night. the robbers pushed his wife into the kitchen at gunpoint. they demanded cash but the family didn't have. >> kept saying where is the money so it lets us believe that they felt that it was a large amount of money in the house. why they thought that we don't know. we'll get to the bottom of it. >> about a mile away around the same time police were called to this car crash. that malibu was found upside down in the road. and police found a bloody handg handgun. >> pennsylvania governor tom

wolf says he cannot cave on the budget stalemate that continues in harrisburg. the stalled negotiations and lack of funding could force philadelphia to actually close some schools. philadelphia schools are now looking at what may happen if this drags on for long enough for if district to run out of cash. the district is borrowing to keep its doors open. the superintendent doesn't know whether pennsylvania law would allow schools to shut down. >> can you pay people, are they required to come to work, so it's all of these things that we would have to know and understand and we're looking into those things as we speak. >> he told us that at the end of the month the district should have an idea how much longer it can proyt. >> a single judge will preside over more than 60 lawsuits from the deadly amtrak derailment. according to philly.com a federal court panel has chosen one u.s. district judge to over see all of the days.

urged the panel to consolidate since many of the suits involve the same pretrial legal issues. in 2012 the panel combined thousands of concussion-related lawsuits against the nfl. p >> 22 minutes before 6:00. we're a half hour from sun rise. a cool breeze through the area. it's blowing fair weather clouds through the area. we'll see a lot of sunshine and warm up today. tracking some showers, though, before we get to the weekend and once those showers clear out, it's colder. we could see readings in the 30s over the weekend. right now, 50 degrees currently in doylestown. philadelphia international, scattered clouds and millville at 51. scattered clouds in the mountain, no sign of showers in the mountains. i'm tracking showers but they are not going to come for today.

cameras on the schuylkill expressway at 30 street. we're seeing a lot of activity. i'll break it down and show you. right here we're on the schuylkill. this is the westbound side around 30th street. they have all lanes blocked. there is a massive backup behind the scene. . trying to get this cleaned up with the heavy police activity on the scene you can see on the eastbound side so nobody is exempt from this scene until eastbound even approaching or losing a lane or two with police activity on that side as well. the philadelphia area for right now. starting to see delays on the eastbound side from if blue to the vine street expressway. only about 20 minutes. especially approaching the accident scene. >> two police officers shot by a bad guy not only went after the criminal in court but also the gun shop that sold the gun.

if a jury agreed that the gun shop was partly receivable. >> former nba player, lamar odom found unconscious in a brothel in nevada. new information up next about the trug drugs he may have taken just before he was found.

>> a security camera captured a plane crash as it happened in florida. look at the top of the screen you can see the plane coming down sideways. the aircraft slammed into a mobile home park in palm beach county and burst into flames. a man says his daughter died in that crash. it's unclear how many people were hurt and this is a live look at the scene this morning. the palm beach sheriff's office

said two trailers were affected. the scene will be secured by deputies until ntsb crews arrive later today. this morning we're waiting for word on the condition of former nba player lamar odom after he was found unconscious at a brothel in nevada. investigators say employees at love ranch found odom unconscious. medics took him to a hospital. the owner said odom had been taking a lot of what the owner characterized to nbc news as herbal viagra. no illegal drugs were found in his room. the 35-year-old gained fame on reality tv as the ex-husband of khloe kardashian. >> this just in to the newsroom. the israeli military says it will begin deploying hundreds of troops to help police in israeli cities. the country's security cabinet is looking to combat a spike in shooting and stabbings.

at least seven people have been killed and more than 20 attacks. benjamin netanyahu is pledging to settle the score with the murderers. >> and a jury in milwaukee has decided that a gun store was negligent in selling a gun that was eventually used to shoot and injure two police officers. the jury found the store badger guns was at fault for the illegal sell of a weapon used in a 2009 shooting. investigators say the 18-year-old who shot the officers got the gun through a straw purchase when someone buy as gun for someone who can't legally do so. badger guns ordered to pay nearly $6 million to the injured police officers. in addition to more than $700,000 in punitive damages. >> happening today, the wilmington police department will receive life saving technology that helps a person suffering sudden cardiac arrest. an automated external

defibrillator. a police officer saved a retired officer's life with the device earlier this year. the officer will also be honored today. one canine crime fighter is wearing special body armor to keep him safe in the line of duty. the armor is to protect canine storm of the manchester police department from bullets and knives. it's a donation from a nonprofit called vested interest, it's embroidered with a phrase in memory of canine roko, a dog killed in the line of duty. >> crews in montana continue to battle a wild fire. officials say the fire is calming now, it was 15% contained last time we checked on it. sut some in the area though are still in danger. crews fighting the flames from the air could be difficult if the wind picks up. no injuries are reported at this point. officials tell people in central texas to leave their homes because of a wild fire there.

dry windy conditions led to an outbreak of fires in two counties there. fire crews also evacuated a state park and the cancer research center. right now the fire is about 30% contained. >> fire tore through the halloween section of a california walmart and a cell phone camera captured the moment. employees at the store near oakland jumped into action to extinguish the flames before they got out of control. the store was evk waited because of the thick smoke. investigators say a man was arrested on suspicion of arson. no one was hurt. >> a proposal to evect a monument in georgia isn't getting a welcome response. civil rights groups say they don't want the statue of king so close to a tribute for three confederate soldiers. the leadership conference and two chapter s voiced concerns.

>> happening today the archdiocese of philadelphia hopes that the recent visit by pope fran sills will bring more people to the priesthood. it will announce its new recruiting program called, called by name. it aims to get parishioners involved inviting them to suggest suitable candidates. if they hold a news conference, that will be at st. charles where the pope stayed last month. >> happening today, the u.s. treasury secretary gets suggestions on the design of the new $10 bill. students will attend a town hall. liu wants to know which they might want on the new 10. the decision to replace with a historic woman was announced earlier this year. the new bill won't be in circulation until 2020. a jury rejects a woman's fwid

sue her 12-year-old fef new. >> she claims she was injured when her nephew gave her an enthusiastic hug. at his birthday party. she says he acted unreasonably. connell says the boy's jump caused her to fall and she broke her wrist. yesterday jury members denied the $127,000 she was seeking in damages. she says she loves her nephew but thinks he should be held aaccountable. the cubs are now one step closer to ending their within 07-year world series drought. if only we could have heard harry caray. the team celebrated after they eliminated the cardinals 6-4 to take the eerz three games to one. the cubs are four wins away. by the way last night's win.
